Mira's POV As I had no connection to the real world, I have no idea how much time had passed. I know it has been years though. My parent's trees were now fully fledged. Oh how I missed my mother. She would have comforted me. I love being in the wild but it gets lonely, very lonely. I decided to suck it up and go to the river to find dinner. The moon shone brightly. I walked out of my cave, the air was cool, the birds asleep. That's when I saw her. She was on the floor and her head was facing the other way. A lone wolf. At first I hid because although I had healed some lone wolves in the past, I was traumatized and would love to stay alive thank you very much. "Who are you?", I asked. She didn't reply. I then caught the moonlight reflecting off a pool she was in. "That doesn't make sense the river is over there-the river is over there-THE RIVER IS OVER THERE." She was bleeding, profusely. I ran over and asked what had happened. She didn't reply and her breaths were heavily
Khal's POVI woke up drenched in sweat. The nightmares had become worse. I could hear my parents' screams, their throats being slit and my own futile begging. I couldn't get up. I had become worse overnight. I also smelt a distinct rotting. It was from me, the healer hadn't been lying after all. The curse was taking over. As the Alpha of my pack, I've always prided myself on being in control. I'm the one who makes the tough decisions and ensures that my pack is safe and secure. But now, I find myself in a situation that I have no control over. The curse of the rejection has taken a hold of me, and it's slowly killing me from within. I had my reasons, but they were not good enough for the Moon Goddess. She cursed me, promising me a slow and painful death that would come from within. Over time, I began to notice the changes in myself. I felt weaker, more tired, and less like myself.I tried to hide my deteriorating condition from my pack, but my Beta Stephen could see that somethin
Chapter 9 Although Mira had only known Anabelle for a few days, she had come to find her as a fast friend. She could hunt as well in her human form and her wolf form, and Mira had found her to be quite an asset. She could identify a lot of the plants that Mira needed for her poultices and elixirs, and she even knew how to grind them too, which made her a perfect friend for Mira, and a very useful one too. They would go down the river for dinner every night, searching for fish or freshly wounded animals that were too close to death to be saved. On one of their walks along the river banks, Mira stared into the running clear water only to see Anabelle's reflection looking right back at her. Their aim that night was to get food for dinner, but Mira wanted to know who she had been sharing her home with a little better. “So, Anabelle, tell me more about yourself,” she said, keeping her face neutral. “So far, all I know about you is that you're from Spooky Hollow, you are the only surv
Caroline's POVI stood at the edge of the forest, surveying the gathered wolves with a critical eye. They had come from all corners of the land, answering the call to hunt for the potion that would cure the curse of the rejected. The curse, which caused wolves to physically rot had plagued my brother for years. But now, with the promise of a cure, our hope had been reignited.I had volunteered to lead the hunt, a decision that had been met with positivity among the ranks. After all, though she was not a warrior like her brother or a seasoned hunter but they knew I possessed a sharp mind and a keen eye for strategy, and I was determined to lead this hunt to success."Listen up, everyone," I called out, her voice ringing clear over the crowd. "We have a mission to complete. The potion that will cure the curse of the rejected is somewhere in these woods. We know the potion can only be brewed by a powerful witch who lives deep in the forest. Our goal is to find her and convince her to giv
Chapter 11.Elise's POV.Elise looked around at the members of the pack that were left and heaved a heavy sigh. These were the only people left of the Mystic Shadow pack, every other person had either died in the attack or had died after the loss. Moira and her little wolves had been making a lot of noise and causing uproar in the park. Elise worried that she was a loose end and would somehow lead to the death of more members. Her boys had become tyrants, running across town. She was the last surviving Elder, as the others had fallen victim to a sickness she could not make either head or tail off. She felt a sadness in her heart, because she knew that if Mira was home, she would have healed them and there would be less losses. She wondered where the poor girl was, and if she was doing okay. She had not yet mastered her shifts as at the last time Elise had seen her during a full moon shift, and she had no reason to believe that now would be any different. Justin, one of the little b
Jack's POV (A searcher)I was a lone wolf, wandering through the vast and dark forest when I heard about Alpha Khal's curse. It was said that he had been cursed by the moon goddess, and no one in his pack could cure him. I didn't have any one as all my pack members had been killed. I was once part of a pack, but they were all killed by the blood drinkers. They came upon us in the middle of the night, without warning, and attacked us with a ferocity that I had never seen before. I was on the outskirts of the pack at the time, and I managed to flee into the forest. I heard the sounds of my pack mates being killed as I ran, and I knew that I was the only one left. I was traumatized by the attack, and I wandered for days, unsure of where to go or what to do. I felt guilty and grief-stricken, wishing that I had been able to save my pack mates. But as the days went by, I began to realize that I was the only one left. I had to survive on my own, no matter how hard it was. I found a cave to
Alpha Khal's POV.The search for the cure had been ongoing for quite a few days now, and nothing had come forth from it. His arm had been weaker of late, and he had come to find that he could not even lift it to put food in his mouth. He was always tired, and none of the fixes they had been bringing his way had even made a dent in his well being. The one they brought last had tasted a little too much like swamp, and he hated it, but he had drank it, only for it to have no effect on his health. The person who brought it had said it came from the best healer in the next pack over, and it had come with a note that read:“made from the best rosemary, foxtrot, and foxglove.”And when he read that, desperate for healing, he had downed the entire bottle as per the instructions. His sister, Caroline had been sitting in the room when he downed the bottle, and when he twisted up his face, she had burst out laughing.“You did this to yourself Khal. Do you know that? Why in god's name had you r
Mira's POV I was walking along the path that led to my small cave in the forest when I saw a wolf stumble out of the trees ahead of me. He was limping and had a deep gash on his leg that was bleeding profusely. I rushed over to help him. "Please, help me," the wolf gasped as he collapsed onto the ground. I examined his wound and saw that it was deep and infected. I quickly gathered some of the herbs I had just collected and began to apply them to his wound. The man groaned in pain but eventually started to relax as the herbs took effect. Once the wound was clean, I wrapped it tightly with bandages. "Thank you," the man said weakly as he sat up. "I don't know what would have happened to me if you hadn't come along."I moved him to the cave and laid him on my bed of leaves and moss. A lot of injured people get that treatment. I nodded, feeling relieved that I had been able to help him. I noticed that he was not unkempt or malnourished like a lone wolf. I wondered what he was doing
