CHAPTER FOUR
'Goodbye'"I need to go mum," I told my mother, pulling free from her embrace. "If they find out that I'm the one, they will kill me. You heard what they said at the meeting." I broke up in tears.Mother shook her head as she tried to fight back the tears. She wiped the corners of my eyes and grabbed onto my hands."You can't leave, sweetie. Don't ever think that I am letting you out of my sight. I've already lost your father, the love of my life and I won't lose you too. I will speak to the council member. I will plead on your behalf. We can tell them you didn't know he was from the Midnight Pack. It's not like it's your fault that he's from that pack. Finding someone's mate and mating is supposed to be something special, not something that gets you killed. Please stay here."As much as I wanted to believe her words I couldn't risk it. The entire pack already hates me. More so, having my mother talk to the council, what if something bad happened to her? They may decide to tag her as a traitor also. Alpha Lucien wasn't known for being merciful.I would never forgive myself. So I had to do what my wolf was telling me to do. I needed to leave. Now!"I have to go mum, the sun is setting. This is the best time for me to go without being noticed." I said picking up my bags and heading towards the front door. The look on my mother's face was enough to break my heart. The pain in her expression was unbearable but all I could do was give my mother one last smile before I disappeared into the night."I love you so much, goodbye mum." I whispered as I closed the door behind me leaving the warmth of the house behind, and stepping into the freezing winter air outside. It was colder during the evening period, which I usually loved but right now I feel cold and scared. I knew I had to be subtle not to raise suspicion as I walked by other members of the pack. Some of them asked me some questions but I answered them all with the same lie; I was going to visit my mate from the neighboring pack. They seemed to not care as they continued with their daily activities.I bet no one thought I was leaving home, they all thought I was going to be back the next day, probably with my mate.It was almost midnight by the time I reached the outskirts of our pack's settlement. I knew crossing the bridge meant that I was going rogue. Something I used to fear more than anything. Rogues were known as outcast, those who had broken the law of their pack. No pack would take them in and most people had a strong hate for them. They were mostly killed on sight, only the strongest survived due to their ability to hunt. Most of them lived in caves or in abandoned cabins, away from everyone else. This was going to be my life now.I was halfway across the bridge when I felt a hand pull me back and onto the ground."Where are you going?" A male voice asked.I looked up to see Jekyll hovering over me. I tried to stand but he held me down. He was taller than my own six foot height. His long blonde hair fell loosely around his shoulders as he stared at me angrily.“Are you trying to escape Ava? So you won’t get killed? I know you’re the one the Elders are looking for,”“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I growled, pushing him away with all my strength. He let out a grunt as I pushed past him and ran to the other side of the bridge."Hey! Get back here!" he yelled. I didn't stop as I continued racing through the forest. But I wasn’t fast enough as he caught up with me pulling me by the hair.“You slutty whore, I watched you mate with him that night, near the lake. I even saw the way he looked at you. How dare you give him what belongs to me,” I was struggling against his hold on my hair as I turned to face him. My face was red with anger.“You are such a fucking creep. What kind of sick fuck stands in the dark watching two people mate. I knew there was something off about you but I never expected you to be this disgusting,” I spat out.“I bet you’re the one who told the elders, aren’t you? You’re a piece of shit?” I bite out.Jekyll laughed as his grip on my hair tightened. "Well I didn’t tell them you’re the traitor but I was guessing they did figure that out by themselves?”"So what are you going to do, huh? Kill me because I slept with someone that isn’t you. You’re not my mate Jekyll, get that into your fucking skull.” I retorted fiercely.Jekyll hated that I was right. Even though he hated it. He was obsessed with me, he wanted me, lusted after me like the crazy beast that he was but I always rejected his advances.“I don’t care if you’re my mate or not, I want you and there’s nothing that you can do about it. You are mine and you will be mine whether you like it or not,” he growled, pulling me closer to him as he began to forcefully kiss me. My stomach churn as I felt his wet lips touch my face.I struggled against him as I pushed him away. "Don't touch me," I said in an angry tone."Maybe I should show you just how much I want you." he said, grabbing my neck tightly.I gasped for breath as I tried to push him away again but he was too strong."Get off me, you bastard!" I screamed sending a direct punch to his face, Jekyll just smiled as if he was motivated even more. He leaned down, holding me still and kissed me deeply.I was resisting as much as I could but he had a firm hold on me. My wolf cried out in disgust, Lisa hated having anyone other than our mate kiss us.“Let her go!” a loud growl came from behind Jekyll, the growl had me shaking. All he could see when he turned back was a large wolf advancing towards him with a murderous intent. He released his grip from me immediately as he scampered away from me as fast as his legs would carry him. Fucking coward.I fell to the ground, gasping for breath as I looked up to see the monster standing above me. It was huge, bigger than any wolf I had seen before. It stood at least six times the size of my own wolf. Its fur was black, almost navy blue in color. Then my eyes met his and I knew it was him. The stranger at the lake…. The one who made me feel things I couldn’t explain….. The one responsible for all this chaos in my life….. My mate.CHAPTER FIVE'I reject you'“What are you doing here?” I asked angrily as I stood to my feet. Even though my wolf wanted me to run into his arms and kiss him, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was very angry at him… For disappearing this morning …. For making me leave my pack, my mother."I just saved you from that bastard and that’s what you ask me? And who the fuck is him, I'm going to kill that coward.” the stranger said, shifting back into his human form. He seemed serious about his threat on Jekyll's life and honestly I was in support.“Don't you try to change the subject. You left me, after we made love. You just disappeared into thin air. I didn't know where you were until I woke up and realized that you weren't there beside me. It hurt me, it really did, you know that?”I could see a glint of empathy in his eyes. I'm sure he could see the pain in my eyes as well. "I'm sorry. I had important things to attend to." he whispered. His hands moved to my hips as he pulled me close
CHAPTER 6Ava's Point Of View'Wolves that read minds'I could feel the burning intensity in Kaden's kiss, my rogue alpha mate. I tried to push him off me but this was what I needed. I needed to feel the warmth of my mate, I needed his touch. I craved his kisses.'No but he is a rogue! The beginning of all your misfortunes. He is the reason why you had to run away from home.' my better judgment tried to plead it's case. But my wolf was more than forgiving to our mate. Should I really forgive him?"Come with me!" He says breaking off the kiss, leaving me panting hard."Let's go back to my pack. I'll protect you and I promise to make it up to you. If you are my mate Ava, then we belong together, that much is obvious." Kaden said holding my hands, his eyes screamed sincerity. I really wanted so badly to believe every word he was telling me.But everything we werewolves have been taught ever since we were little pups were not to trust the words of rogues. They would say whatever they neede
Chapter 7I quickly finished up my dinner and started making my way back to my room, I felt completely tired and drained. I needed to get some rest. Suddenly, a masculine scent mixed with forest breeze hits me hard. It was intoxicating my entire senses, setting me in a high.'Mate!' my wolf sang happily. She really didn't mind that our mate was in fact the Alpha of rogues, after all I wasn't one to be judge, I could be called a rogue too.Maybe I should give him a chance. The scent was coming from the last room along the hall way. As if my feets had a mind of their own I raced towards the scent. I entered the room to see Kaden sitting behind a messy desk."Ava," he calls standing up. I could see a familiar look of the affection he showed me the night we mated but soon it faded into an unreadable stare. It was replaced with hate."Kole told me you weren't around." I say with a smile, all he reciprocated it with was a cold stare."I only came back just now. What do you want?" He answere
Chapter 8Kaden's Point Of ViewAnger was all I felt. I had so many reasons to be angry. I was angry at myself, I was angry at the moon goddess and I was angry about my mate.I was training with some warriors at the training ground, I needed to let off some steam, something to distract my thoughts, any distraction that I could get was welcomed. Without warning all the warriors including my beta Adrian charged at me, lunging and attacking me with every trick in their arsenal. My eyes changed from its glowing emerald gem color to a fiery red glow, it was an indication that my wolf, Ace, was sharing partial control with me.In swift strokes I thrashed and sent them falling against the dusty earth at every corner.Adrian charged at me from behind, his claws were extended, swinging for my head, but I easily managed to duck just in time. I let out a low growl in annoyance, I pounced at him, circling my claws around his neck, then pinning him to the ground. I growled at him, getting him to l
Ava's Point Of ViewNight had befallen the castle and the rogues were already outside busy doing their bonfire thing.I stood, staring out through the window, getting ready for my grand escape. Okay, it isn't so grand like I made it out to be, the plan was just going out through the window and bounded for freedom.Like I said it was grand.I walked to the grand window and opened it breathing in the fresh chilly night air. Finally, when I feel calm I decide to look down, that's a long way down."Fuck!" I curse looking down.I think I can make it! Right? I'm a freaking werewolf, of course I can, maybe I'll break a few bones but I'll be fine.I climb down gently and sit on the edge of the window before dropping, I land on my feet like I knew I would. I jumped out of a freaking four story castle! My wolf must be getting stronger!I look around the empty area before I sprint off into the trees. I continue to sprint loving the way the wind was blowing on my hair, I don't feel anxious anym
Ava's Point Of View The moonlight shone down on the gloomy foggy dark castle that sat still on top of the hill looming over nothingness that went on miles and miles. It really looked haunted.I look up at the ancient looking castle holding back my tears. I can't believe that I'm back here, one right move and I would have escaped. It was all that witch's fault!I shoot her my best murderous glare and she just smiles at it.I was out of the pack, I almost tasted freedom but she ruined it all, now I was doomed. Kaden was going to have my head for this, that's for sure."Relax, he is not going to kill you." The witch smirks."How do you know that he won't?" I shot at her."I know Kaden, a lot more than most people do. He isn't going to kill his mate, but he is going to make you suffer as fuck. Kaden always fancied torture." She explains. Just who the hell was this chick? How did she know so much about Kaden? By the way she speaks Kaden and she must have a deep rooted history together."D
Ava's Point Of ViewIf looks could kill, I would be dead by now, bleeding all over the floor with multiple incisions. The other woman stood there, just staring at me without saying a single word. She didn't need to though, her eyes said it all. She hated every piece of my existence, she wanted me gone out of her and Kaden lives so she could have Kade. I could tell she felt threatened by me."What the hell do you think you are doing in here, who gave you the permission to come out of your room?" She screamed. Kaden must have not told her that he himself gave me the permission to step out of my chambers. Oh goodness, this lunatic looked very pissed all because of me."Kaden. He gave me permission." I just said. If you looked carefully you could literally see steam coming out of her ears. She looked beyond furious. She was out for blood, whatever trouble she wanted to stir up, I didn't want any part in it this morning. I learnt my lesson pretty well from the last time and Kaden warned me
Ava's Point Of ViewA woman was stepping onto the stage towards a table set up in the center. She placed two bowls next to plates that were already prepared with food. Then she sat facing the pews and took a drink from one of the two glasses set as well. I was suspicious. Who was this stranger living within the goddess temple?"Won't you join me, Ava?" The woman suddenly asked loudly, her voice echoing throughout the room with ease. I ducked once again, trying to hide despite already being found. Then I was struck with another question, how the hell did she know my name? This felt really creepy."You don't want your food to get cold, do you?" The woman added. At the mention of food, especially food meant for my stomach rolled over with excitement even Lisa was now jumping in excitement. If anything could influence me to do something crazy, it had to be food. I took a deep breath and stood stubbornly, glaring at the strange woman suspiciously."What are you doing here?" I asked her bef
Kaden's Point Of View Ava was gone.I stood at the window, the chill of the evening air slipping inside as I peered out into the darkness. She had jumped from this very frame, racing towards the heart of the Forest, but why did she have to go there? Whatever it was, it was urgent, and I needed to find her. Alone and unprotected, she was in danger, and time was slipping away.I hurried down the grand staircase, the echoes of my footsteps fading into the hushed silence of the mansion. In the living room, Kole and Krys were poised, their expressions etched with concern.“Ava's gone,” I said, my voice steady yet laced with urgency.“Don't worry brother, we will help you find her.” Krys assured me, determination glimmering in her eyes. Kole nodded, his jaw set, ready for what may come. The night air danced with danger. I could feel it, something was afoot. As we stepped outside of the mansion, the air thickened with tension. A sea of vampires surrounded us, their eyes glinting in the moon
Kaden's Point Of View Everything was moving too fast.We were forced to wait here at the safe house for a week, in hope that one of my siblings might still show up. It's been a week already and no one has shown up. And I was done waiting.Over the past week Ava's stomach had continued to grow, by the way it was going she would go into labor in less than a month's time. A normal pregnancy was supposed to take at least seven months but this was anything but normal. This was a special and delicate pregnancy. Those babies inside Ava were channeling her to grow faster. They were feeding on her, thank goddess she was a hybrid, if she wasn't she would have died by now, along with our babies. But her vampire side was sustaining her, all she needed to do was feed on blood, lots of it. Her thirst for blood seemed to grow exceedingly. This was bad.At this rate, Ava would give birth within a month and there was a high fatality rate. According to Krys, the twins could end up killing her, channel
Ava's Point Of ViewWe finally arrived in Switzerland. The city of Interlaken scenery is so lovely. I have never been anywhere apart from our pack in New Orleans, so I couldn't stop myself from gawking around like a tourist. We rode for like thirty minutes, and we arrived at Kaden's family safe house. a mansion that loomed majestically yet melancholically against the twilight sky. Despite its cracked pillars and peeling paint, there was a beauty to the place that clung stubbornly to its heritage. “Fucking hell! How long has it been? I surely didn't miss this place,” Krys muttered as we stepped inside, the echo of our footsteps swallowed by the silence. I stifled a cough, the musty scent of dust prickling my nostrils. The whole place was dusty and covered in cobwebs, years of neglect hung in the air like a shroud, a testament to the Delacourts’ absence.Kaden had spoken the truth—no one has really been here for an eternity. None of the Delacourts had arrived yet.“Hold on Ava," Kaden
Ava's Point of ViewThe dawn light filtered through the curtains as Krys paced the room, her anxiety palpable. She had insisted on an urgent meeting with Kaden and me, and an unsettling premonition gnawed at me—this had to be something about my unborn child. With each heartbeat, the weight of dread settled thickly in my chest. Krys’ purple eyes, usually so vibrant and bright, now flashed with erratic intensity of fear as she moved like a caged animal, the rhythm of her pulse matching her frenetic energy.“Come on, Krystabelle. What’s so urgent that it couldn't wait? You’re acting like you’ve just witnessed the end of the world,” Kaden remarked, his tone both teasing and concerned. But Krys didn’t pause or respond; she remained lost in her turmoil.I stepped forward and placed a steadying hand on her shoulder, forcing her to stop and meet my gaze. “Krys, what’s wrong? Everything is fine,” I murmured, my voice a tether to calmness.“Everything is anything but fine, Ava” she replied, her
Ava's Point Of View I turned for the doors instantly, and left the hall, walking into the cool refreshing midnight air. I moved into the woods, stripping naked and shifting into my wolf. I grabbed my dress with my sharp canines and darted into the woods, heading for Kaden and my secret place. I reached the magical scenery, there was a beautiful lake flowing peacefully and beautiful flowers in bloom all around. This was just the place I needed to get my mind off things.I shifted back to my human form, tossing my dress to the side of the lake. My lips stretched into a smile, loving the serenity of this special place and the quiet peace it gave. I moved closer to the lake, my eyes glazing over the tall shadow that stretched up like arrows into the sky.The fresh water looked like a beautiful puddle of blue ink, taking the reflection of the full moon hanging up in the sky. The starry night alone calmed my soul.I took a few tentative steps into the glorious luster of the water until it
Ava's Point Of View “What does it say Krys?” I ask Krys, with both my hands covering my face. I was nervous, beyond nervous –I was agitated.I don't think I have ever been more nerve wrecked like I was right now. Whatever the news Krys gives to me would determine a great change in my life forever. This was going to be an important moment in my existence. After my monthly visitor has yet to appear, I became worried that I might be pregnant. That was impossible right? I am a vampire, vampires can't give birth, but if it was possible for my mother maybe it was for me too. I mean think about it, my mother was a special breed of vampire, a Fecundi, with the special power to procreate, maybe I got some of her genes and let's not throw out the window that I am still a werewolf, which means I could defy nature and the vampire anatomy.I mean I haven't gotten any of the early symptoms of pregnancy but I would be lying if I said I didn't feel different these past few weeks. Krys was the only p
Ava's Point Of View “We have a lot to talk about Ava.” The Moon goddess, Selene said to me with a smile.“Wait, what do you mean in the Path between the afterlife?” I ask, confused about what she had meant by it.“The Path in between is a space that exists through time, between the living and the dead.” She explained.“So I am not dead?”“Of course Ava, it would take more than a Silver blade to the heart to end a hybrid like yourself. You can choose to awaken at this very moment or not, well that choice is completely up to you to make. You can decide to live or die.” She clarifies to me.“If the choice is mine then I choose to live, I'm not ready to say goodbye yet.” I stated.“Not so quick Ava, first you need to consider the catastrophe that weighs on the choice you make.” She replied.“Catastrophe?” How could there be any catastrophe with me being alive or dead?“Yes my dear. I will show you the outcomes that will happen with your choices.” She began to walk and I followed behind h
Ava's Point Of View A few minutes later, Kaden and I just lay on the bed waiting for the Hunter's Moon to pass. And it finally passed at midnight. The curse had been broken when we professed our love for one another in the deepest way possible. Our love was the key needed to break the curse and mating He was now free from death as well as the entire pack.I get up from the bed, quickly changing into a tank top and blue jeans. I heard the sounds of sirens going off, I had completely forgotten that we were in the middle of war.I still can't believe that we made love in the middle of a war. To me it sounded beautiful and romantic but in a very dark way.“Quick Kaden. Change so we can join the pack to fight.” I said to him, tossing his T-shirt to him.“Don’t worry Ava, I already gave everyone the order. To kill every single thing that breathes in this castle.” Kaden replies and my eyes widen at his words. The order was to kill everyone, and spare no one. I became worried about Pedro. H
Kole’s Point Of View I was in a hot pursuit with Hal Jordan, the last remaining Lycan Elder sired by our sister kathryna.Krys and I had made it our sole mission to exterminate every single last one of those Elders scum during this war. This was our golden opportunity to catch them all off guard and in one place. With this element of surprise we could put an end to all of our enemies in a single attack. This was going to be the end of the long battle with the Elders and us. Krys had informed me through our shared mindlink that she had eliminated the other Elders leaving remaining one. Hal.I was informed by Lorenzo of where he was spotted last. In fact that coward fled as soon as he learnt Kaden and his army had attacked. Right now, I was in a hot pursuit in the nearest woods.I pursued the fast Lycan right into a dead end, cornering and blocking all his exits so he couldn't escape me this time.“It's over Hal, surrender and I will grant you a quick death.” I said to him as he turned
