[Isaac]

I never thought anything apart from being cursed as a beast would hurt me. I was wrong. I was wrong because being rejected by your blood hurts a thousand times more. Not only am I now an unwelcome guest in my mate’s house, but an unwanted person as well.

“Where is your bond mark, Alpha Isaac?” When Kathryn repeats the question, it breaks my stupor.

“I…” How do I tell her about my struggles in these past five years?

I see her eyes flash with hurt. She glares at me frostily, barely containing her displeasure and anger. I would have teased or retorted in any other situation, but this time I can’t afford that.

“It has faded,” I answer truthfully. There’s a painful pause, a suffocating silence which follows.

She takes a shuddering breath, hands calmly placed on her lap. Her gaze lowers for a moment before she gazes back at me. “Why?”

“I defeated Ruth,” I reply. She raises an eyebrow.

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

“When I said that I will set it right. I meant it,

[Caius] “Stop pacing around,” my beta, Lorcan mutters. I stop to glare at him, but all she gives me is a baleful look. “You know this would have happened one day or the other,” he points out. “Shut up. How many times will I tell you that I am not thinking about Kathryn,” I growl. He bows his head in submission, but I can see the way his jaw clenches. When I turn around, he puts down the laptop on the coffee table a little too hard then he usually does and stands up. “Alpha Harmony instructed me to take care of you. She worries about you. You can’t cling to that woman knowing the truth that she is another's. She doesn’t even reciprocate,” he says exasperatedly. It’s only our 22 years' worth of friendship that stops me from breaking his neck. “As if I don’t know,” I retort. “And why are you suddenly listening to Alpha Harmony?” The question gets me some unexpected reactions. Lorcan not only gets flustered but also looks away. I raise an eyebrow at his peculiar and unexpecte

  • Alpha Isaac   48. Being Reckless

Dinner is a tense affair. I had to whip up something quick yet nutritious. “Lenny, come down for dinner,” I holler once I have set the table. Isaac had offered to help, but I refused. When Isleen comes downstairs, she pauses at the foot of the staircase. Her eyes were pinned on Isaac. I surreptitiously glance at him. His gaze flickers toward me. I offer him a nervous smile before glancing back at Isleen. “Baby, wash your hands and sit down. Fast.” However, she remains standing on her spot. “Why is he still here?” Her face scrunches into a scowl. The tension has intensified and I have no clue how to diffuse it. “Isleen,” I warn. She gives a petulant glare but thankfully relents. She wordlessly sits down and doesn’t utter a word for the rest of the dinner. I should be proud of her, not because she didn’t voice her anger, but because she didn’t throw a tantrum. She doesn’t usually. Isaac observes her as she stabs her fork into the vegetables and shoves them into her mouth. “E

His restraint snaps as our lips meet, devouring me hungrily. He lets go of my wrists and gets me out of my clothes. We work in a frenzy, our hands trying to get the feel of bare skin. I realize that I have missed this. My animalistic side has been starving, my heart has been yearning for this intimacy. “The door,” I breathe out between kisses, arching my back as he palms my right breast. Isaac’s frustrated growl makes me giggle. I feel high and feel as if every nerve-ending is alive. He reluctantly leaves the bed and shuts the door before prowling back toward me. “Now you can scream my name as much as you want.” A deadly grin spreads across his lips and the gleam in his eyes makes my heart stutter. “The door is not soundproof,” I retort, gasping when he pinches my nipple. He nips and kisses every inch of my skin. He keeps me teetering at the edge with his fingers and tongue, devouring me slowly and torturously, sucking on my clit until I am writhing under him. I am too far gon

[Isaac]When I opened my eyes the next morning, for a moment, I believed that I was alone. I thought that all that happened was merely my dream, but then as my awareness began to sharpen, I realized the warm weight on my chest, the soft puff of breath against my skin.My heart swelled with love and relief when I took in my mate’s sleeping form. She was on top of me and sleeping soundly. It not only pleased me but also my wolves as they purred in my head. A glance towards the window told me it was pretty early. The curtains had become translucent. I thought of staying in, but then I needed clothes. My gaze went to my tattered pants and shirt. Only the jacket was salvageable. I practically arrived empty-handed. John dropped me off to this pack and only reluctantly returned when I said I would be fine. I had planned to stay at Caius’ place, but then…I nuzzled Kathryn’s hair. She mumbled in her sleep but did not open her eyes. After lazing around for a couple of more minutes, I finally

  • Alpha Isaac   51. Convincing Isleen

[Isaac]“Do I need to know how you managed to feed Isleen?” Kathryn asks, a tinge of awe and confusion lacing her words. I smirk and tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear while she wipes the dishes. Isleen scrambled out of the kitchen the moment she was done and I didn’t know whether I should have been sad or slightly relieved about it. “She was hungry, but she didn’t want to eat so I pretended I was hungry, and she sort of just kept tagging along,” I say with a shrug. Kathryn chuckles. “She doesn’t warm up to strangers-” she cuts off abruptly and purses her lips. She glances at me briefly before moving to clear the table. “It’s alright. I know she won’t accept me so easily,” I murmur although it hurts. “At least, you did not resist,” I add with a mischievous smile and relish in her reaction. Her cheeks turn a fine shade of pink.“Stop talking such bullshit when a five-year-old is nearby,” she grumbles and folds the cleaning cloth and puts it away. I follow her as she putters

  • Alpha Isaac   52. Repaying

[Caius]“Are you really letting go of Kathryn?” my beta asks once Isaac has left. “How did you enter the room without my permission?” I ask instead of answering. “You weren’t paying attention, I knocked,” he snarks. I snap the file I was going through, close, and turn to see him shooting me a pointed look. “You are going ahead of yourself, don’t you think?” “Am I?” he asks, baring his neck in mock submission. “Did you check on Harmony?” I divert the subject. I look at him intently as he tenses. “Yes. She is well.” His clasped hands tightened. “Okay good, you—” There’s a series of knocks on the door which conveys urgency. “Come in.”“Alpha, there’s an attack near the west border,” Derek, a pack patroller, reports. Lorcan growls and asks, “Is it between Greenwood and the crescent pack again?”“No, Beta. It’s an attack. On our border. We are trying to suppress them but they might be from-” he peers at me and my frown deepens. “It’s… Alpha Deimos’ men.” The name stupefies me. The

  • Alpha Isaac   53. The Concealed Truth

[Kathryn]The feeling is familiar – a rabbeting heart, clammy palms, and restlessness. I pace in the living room while Isleen, thanks to the Goddess, remains busy with the picture books I had given her when I left her in her room. I wring my fingers as I pace the length of the plush beige carpet. Who attacked? Why did Caius look so tense? Was Isaac okay? I shouldn’t have let him go without me. I can’t even reach him. He has put up his mental block. Will his injuries re-open? There weren’t any that I noticed the last ni-I keep my brain from taking that path. I just hope he doesn’t suffer because of me. ‘He will be fine,’ Astrid replies calmly. ~~**~~[Isaac]The roar stops the action for a few moments and before I can save Caius, the beta he was fighting escapes his grip by sinking their teeth into his foreleg. It leaps and darts out of anyone’s grasp before melting into the shadows of the woods. A few wolves growl at me but most of them cower. I keep my aura in check. They mustn’

  • Alpha Isaac   54. Weak Enigma

[Kathryn] I fold my arms and wait for his explanation. It’s unusual for him to be injured and not heal. It’s unheard of in the werewolf world. The better the wolf’s rank, the faster they recover, especially an Enigma like him. If he could stomach wolfsbane and not die then something must have happened during the fight. My heart lurches at the thought, but I have my mental block up this time. He won’t get an inkling of what I am feeling at the moment. He sits on the sofa, hands steepled and elbows on his knees. He doesn’t meet my gaze as he starts speaking. “After the fight with Ruth… I lost a bit more than my strength.” He pauses, and his gaze flickers to my face before they dart back down. “I lost the ability to heal quickly… or as quickly as a werewolf should,” he adds. A gasp leaves my mouth although I had guessed it when I saw the gaping wound, blood caked on the furs while a thin stream trickled out. “And when were you going to tell me this? When you would be sustaining a s

  • Alpha Isaac   Epilogue

[Kathryn]“Do not exert yourself. Keep letting Isleen heal you a little every day,” Ayeshna says sternly as the three of us sit in her small chamber. She briefly smiles at Isleen before flickering her gaze at Isaac. “And Alpha Isaac, since you have more than one wolf and one of them is severely weak, try to get into fewer fights and don’t even try to transform into either wolf for at least a month. As the Shadow Pack’s doctor and Kathryn’s former colleague, I wouldn’t want you to bring my name down.” Although the last words were said in jest, Isaac nods somberly. He has been like that, a lot milder than he used to be. “He will, doc,” Isleen chirps from where she perches on her father’s lap. Although she was big enough now, to Isaac, she was his pup whom he wanted to spoil and indulge, giving her whatever he couldn’t for the past five years. Isaac lightly tickles her before pecking at the top of her head. Isleen giggles delightfully, but doesn’t squirm out of his hold. My lips tip u

[Kathryn]I watch, bewildered, as Isleen begins the healing process. Isaac tries to move his hand, but her grip only tightens. “Honey-” I try to protest because she is still so weak. She can barely keep her eyes open. Isaac glances at me, panicked. What if we lose her in the process? Astrid whines woefully, “Can’t…” Isleen mumbles as she places her free hand on top of Isaac’s.“I am sure Clement will hold out till you get well, sweetheart,” Isaac says softly, but I can hear the desperation in his tone. I need to think fast because Isleen is hellbent on saving Clement. “Honey… I.. I am like you. Mom can heal as well. Let me heal papa for the while and when you get better, you can do the rest,” I babble, hoping she will give in. I can heal him, but Isleen is already stronger as a healer. She can sense wolves, and locate injuries better than I did at her age. Hell, I didn’t even know I was a white wolf. Isleen is far more mature for her age, smarter and wiser, and I am not even being

  • Alpha Isaac   63. A Flicker of Hope

[Isaac]When I woke up, the first thing I felt was a deep, yawning, and painful emptiness, and Dyson’s mourning silence. For a moment, I had thought that I was back in the past where one of my wolves was subdued, so much so that I had initially thought that he was gone for good, but then I remembered the events, of me killing that witch, of her revealing the deadly curse breaker that she had formulated, and then Clement….Kathryn….Her and Isleen’s thoughts made me stumble out of bed, rip the IV off my arm and stagger out of the unfamiliar room into an even more unfamiliar corridor. When I managed to find my mate’s room-“What the fuck are you doing out here? Go back and take a rest,” I heard the voice of the man I did not want to at the moment.Caius Tenebris. It was when I saw Caius, my restraint almost snapped. I almost pounced on him, and would have probably fought at the sight of him in my mate’s room, had Harmony and the doctor not intervened. “Calm down, Isaac. You are injured

  • Alpha Isaac   62. Grieving

[Kathryn]‘Kathy, wake up,’ Astrid’s voice fills my mind but it sounds distant still. ‘You need to wake up,’ she says again. Why does she sound so…hurt?I want to open my eyes but it feels as if I can’t. ‘We are mostly healed. Try and wake up. Please,’ her voice sounds so urgent. I try as she suggested and after some time, my eyes blink open. I am familiar with the white walls, and the sterile smell, but what gnaws at me is the pain and a certain emptiness. My heart stutters as a horrible thought engulfs my mind. “Isaac…” I croak out. “Thank the fucking Goddess,” I hear a familiar voice. I turn towards the source and spot Caius walking up to my bedside, looking tired. “Where’s..?”“Oh stop taking that moron’s name,” he interjects, annoyed, but I don’t miss the worry lines that form at the edges of his lips. I stare at my stomach and notice that it has been bandaged. “What?...” I feel confused because why am I…Oh….The memories gush back as if a floodgate has been opened. Isl

[warning: violence and gore]IsaacWatching Kathryn slowly collapse and her pain lancing through my body is the last straw. Why did I not take a stance before Zephyr harmed my mate? Why did I stand still, like an imbecile, when I should have protected them? I should have taken charge beforehand. But I let the guilt take a backseat as searing pain and anger courses through my body. I lunge towards her, a pained growl ripping through my lips. She collapses in my arms, a dead weight. I don’t dare to remove the dagger, but seeing her so pale and her lips turning blue, I carefully lay her on the floor and then shift my angry gaze towards Zephyr. ‘She deserves to die.’ Clement and Dyson snarl together. They take rein together, combining their powers. Zephyr smirks and steps away from Isleen. “Ah, so you can even transform into both of your wolves now.”It’s a struggle to keep them both in charge. I pounce at her but she teleports to another place. “I am here,” she calls from behind. D

  • Alpha Isaac   60. A Sadistic Choice

KathrynMy blood is pounding in my ears as Felice continues to unravel her true self. When I met the woman, I had never thought that the woman who made Isaac believe that she was a well-wisher scares me. I glance at my mate’s ashened face. Then my gaze flickers to Felice… no Zephyr's lips curve up further. My attention shifts to my daughter, blissfully oblivious to the chaos. Only if Isleen had her wolf. Astrid could communicate. Astrid would find a way, but she is only a child. A gullible child. I blink back the tears that threaten to fall. I can’t show my weakness in front of this witch. I glower at her as she pleasantly looks back, no doubt taking a sadistic pleasure from watching us suffer. Isaac has put up his mental block again so that I can neither feel nor hear his thoughts. I don’t have the capability to keep up mine, not at this time. But I am sure that he is tearing himself apart inwardly and that makes me want to kill this woman this instant. When my gaze flickers back t

  • Alpha Isaac   59. We Meet again

IsaacMarcus’ urgent call through mind-link floods in just as I am about to start patrolling. There have been some disconcerting things around the south of the pack and I don’t want my half-brother and step-mother or the former luna to jeopardize anything. ‘Alpha…’Marcus’ distressed tone is enough to alert me. ‘What? Are Kathryn and Isleen alright?’ I ask and I get my answer when I let my mental block down. Kathryn’s turmoil and distress wash over me like an unpleasant sensation. I am already turning and sprinting towards the pack house. “Keep patrolling,” I holler and get a chorus of ‘Yes, alpha’ from behind. ‘Julianne reported that Isleen is missing,’ Marcus informs and I screech to a halt. ‘What?’ I jog towards the residence. I can’t transform into either wolf now because both of them want to take the lead. Kathryn’s distress is transforming into anger slowly and I am sure that if I don’t reach in time then she will wreck havoc. Heck, I want to do the same. But one of us has

KathrynWhen I finally managed to put Isleen to sleep, after promising her a tour of the place the next morning, I slowly closed the door behind me and returned to our room.I halt at the sight of Isaac, changing clothes in the middle of the room. My gaze traces every scar and muscle of his broad back. My heartbeat notches up. This… feels so unfamiliar. “Will you be standing there all night or come to me?” he murmurs. My cheeks feel warm as I lower my gaze and cross the room until I am behind him. I wrap my arms around his midriff as soon as he is done wearing the t-shirt. “What did you want to say?” I murmur against his back. His hands come to join mine. He then turns around without breaking the hold and looks at me. His hands encircle my waist. “I didn’t want to say anything. You were the one who stood a few feet away from me and admired me while I changed for the night.” There’s a smugness in his tone and I am unable to decide whether to be mad or just be happy with the develop

  • Alpha Isaac   57. Being Defended for the First Time

Kathryn I stiffen on hearing the words, spewed out like venom. I stare at Helen, dumbfounded. She looks furious, eyes burning with hatred and disgust. White wolf. The word sounds so dirty that it makes me flinch. “What did you say?” Isaac says, his voice barely audible, but he looks livid. His fingers flex around my waist. The warm and welcoming atmosphere has changed into something frigid and tense. “You will question your mother for her?” Helen points an accusing finger at me. “She is a white wolf and that is a cause of disgust to you? Why? Her wolf’s color is white, mine is black, Marcus' is brown. What does color have to do with how that person or their wolf is?” Isaac bellows. I, on my part, stare at him. My heart seems to be pounding in my ears and my legs feel wobbly. When have I ever hoped or imagined that he, of all people, would defend me/ That he would accept me the way I am. Never. I never expected this from him, I still remember him threatening me for being a
