(Kaeleigh’s POV)
I woke up in bed alone. It was the first time I had slept alone in a few weeks. I got out of bed and saw Asher’s shirt still on the sofa where it had been discarded, and smiled. I went and picked it up and raised it to my nose and sniffed. That wasn’t right. The smell didn’t seem as strong. Maybe he had only had it on for a little of time, so his scent wasn’t strong. I shrugged and put the shirt down and headed to the bathroom to shower.
I climbed into the hot shower and leaned my head against the tiles as the water fell. I still had the feeling of anticipation, only this time it felt stronger than last night and had a sense of excitement about it as well. The feeling was mixed in with an unease. I felt like I was missing something, too. Something that was just on the edge of my mind. Was it my wolf, Ana? It
(Kaeleigh POV)My reunion with my wolf would have to be put on hold for a bit because I had just reached Asher’s office. It was time to have words with my future “King”. Without stopping, I threw the door open and stormed in.Asher looked up in anger, ready to chew out who had dared to disturb him, but as he saw me his eyes softened and he smiled.“Kaeleigh sweetheart, what are you doing here?” he said heading round the desk towards me “I am sorry I didn’t get back last night, I got caught up in-”“Dayna?” I interrupted, and glared at him. He glanced at Adam behind me and let out a nervous laugh.“What’s going on, sweetheart?” he tried to pull
(Chase’s POV)I stood on the stage in front of the entire pack. Jensen stood next to me and on my other side was my father. We stood in silence as the pack shouted and talked amongst themselves. I had just told them the details of the curse. I had told them everything we knew about it. It was understandable that they were upset. Not only were they in danger of losing their wolves, but we had also kept that knowledge from them as well. I knew there would be backlash, and had hoped that we could break the curse without the pack ever finding out. But with two weeks left until my birthday, it was looking less and less likely.“How could you keep this from us?” someone shouted, and the crowd died down, awaiting our answer. It was my father who stepped up.“The decision to withhold the inform
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I thought back to the last six weeks or so, and now with Ana’s help, I could see when the spell started to penetrate my system, way back when I was kidnapped. Asher’s sorcerer, who I have no doubt now was the same one my mum and Elaina had mentioned, had been weaving in the spell from when Asher knew who I was. But he had really stepped up the power when I had become a member of his pack. Being my Alpha, whether I liked it or not, gave him certain command over me. Although not much, my own Alpha is too strong for that. But the spell that Asher had used, plus the pain of the rejection, had been clouding my mind almost completely for at least the last month. After my initial excitement of hearing Ana again, she had told me that I had to play along, and to trust her. To not let Asher know that I knew what he had been doing.
(Chase’s POV)I leaned against the wall outside the room that I have just left my mate behind in, and I gripped my chest as pain and despair washes over me. I knew it wasn’t mine, and even though I couldn’t actually hear anything other than this damn alarm. I was subjected to images of Kaeleigh collapsing to the floor in floods of tears.I wanted more than anything to go in and sweep her up and carry her out of this awful place, to take her home and live our happily ever after, or even miserable ever after. I didn’t much care as long as it was with her by my side. But something she said hit me hard. A specific combination of events in the exact right time. I had heard those words before, a few months back, when Jensen and I visited Isabella at Beaumont Academy. Isabella was explaining the complicated workings of the curse. She had
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt arms on me as Adam scooped me up off the floor. He silently carried me to the sofa and put me down. I sat watching him as he got the blanket from the other side of the sofa and placed it over me.“You’re working with Chase?” I asked quietly, and he nodded.“Well, Jensen anyway,” he shrugged. “Until last week, anyway.”“Why?” I asked, and he looked at me funny.“What do you mean, why?”“Well, this is your pack. Shouldn’t you be loyal to your Alpha?” Adam kneeled down on the floor in front of my seat.“Kaeleigh,&r
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt a rush through my body as Asher laid next to me on the bed. He began to trail his fingertips lightly along my body as he watched my face. I could feel the energy of the spell chase his touch around like a magnetic force. I struggled to keep my breathing even as his touch got firmer. His hand landed on my hip, and I winced at the pain from his claws. He frowned and looked down at my hip. He moved the waistband of my pants down and hissed.“Oh sweetheart,” he said, leaning down to my hip. “I am so sorry.” he gently kissed my hip, and I shivered as his tongue darted over the injury and soothing the pain. He grinned at my reaction and moved up the bed, not breaking eye contact, stopping at places to kiss my body lightly. Even through my top, I could feel the energy trying to break through to him.
(Asher’s POV)That’s it, I was done playing Mr. nice guy. I stormed down the hallway, fury running through my veins. Not a man, am I? I thought, Well if I’m not a man I am a monster and maybe it’s time for her to see the monster that lives inside this skin.“Ash!” I heard Cade chasing after me, but I didn’t stop.I gave her every chance. Her own room, time to settle in. I even supported her while she cried for that mutt, Chase. Hell, I let her think she had a choice in this. I could have had her tied to my bed and fucked and marked her that first night if I wanted. But I didn’t, because I wasn’t the monster she thought I was. The monster my father is!“Asher!” Cade grabbed my arm, and I whirled aroun
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I must have drifted off because I woke up to find Cade moving Dayna from my lap and it had gotten dark outside. Dayna moaned in her sleep, but cuddled into Cade as he began to carry her out of the room.“What are you doing?” I asked, a little dazed from my sleep. I felt emotionally exhausted and was starting to get a headache. I rubbed my temple points and sat up from my slumped position.“Cade, put her in my bed,” I said. I was trying to shake the fog out of my head and it wasn’t moving. “She’s staying in here from now on.” I looked up at him and he looked uncomfortable.“No can do, love,” he replied. “Got my orders. She needs to sleep in her own room tonight.”

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
