(Chase’s POV)
I leaned against the wall outside the room that I have just left my mate behind in, and I gripped my chest as pain and despair washes over me. I knew it wasn’t mine, and even though I couldn’t actually hear anything other than this damn alarm. I was subjected to images of Kaeleigh collapsing to the floor in floods of tears.
I wanted more than anything to go in and sweep her up and carry her out of this awful place, to take her home and live our happily ever after, or even miserable ever after. I didn’t much care as long as it was with her by my side. But something she said hit me hard. A specific combination of events in the exact right time. I had heard those words before, a few months back, when Jensen and I visited Isabella at Beaumont Academy. Isabella was explaining the complicated workings of the curse. She had
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt arms on me as Adam scooped me up off the floor. He silently carried me to the sofa and put me down. I sat watching him as he got the blanket from the other side of the sofa and placed it over me.“You’re working with Chase?” I asked quietly, and he nodded.“Well, Jensen anyway,” he shrugged. “Until last week, anyway.”“Why?” I asked, and he looked at me funny.“What do you mean, why?”“Well, this is your pack. Shouldn’t you be loyal to your Alpha?” Adam kneeled down on the floor in front of my seat.“Kaeleigh,&r
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt a rush through my body as Asher laid next to me on the bed. He began to trail his fingertips lightly along my body as he watched my face. I could feel the energy of the spell chase his touch around like a magnetic force. I struggled to keep my breathing even as his touch got firmer. His hand landed on my hip, and I winced at the pain from his claws. He frowned and looked down at my hip. He moved the waistband of my pants down and hissed.“Oh sweetheart,” he said, leaning down to my hip. “I am so sorry.” he gently kissed my hip, and I shivered as his tongue darted over the injury and soothing the pain. He grinned at my reaction and moved up the bed, not breaking eye contact, stopping at places to kiss my body lightly. Even through my top, I could feel the energy trying to break through to him.
(Asher’s POV)That’s it, I was done playing Mr. nice guy. I stormed down the hallway, fury running through my veins. Not a man, am I? I thought, Well if I’m not a man I am a monster and maybe it’s time for her to see the monster that lives inside this skin.“Ash!” I heard Cade chasing after me, but I didn’t stop.I gave her every chance. Her own room, time to settle in. I even supported her while she cried for that mutt, Chase. Hell, I let her think she had a choice in this. I could have had her tied to my bed and fucked and marked her that first night if I wanted. But I didn’t, because I wasn’t the monster she thought I was. The monster my father is!“Asher!” Cade grabbed my arm, and I whirled aroun
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I must have drifted off because I woke up to find Cade moving Dayna from my lap and it had gotten dark outside. Dayna moaned in her sleep, but cuddled into Cade as he began to carry her out of the room.“What are you doing?” I asked, a little dazed from my sleep. I felt emotionally exhausted and was starting to get a headache. I rubbed my temple points and sat up from my slumped position.“Cade, put her in my bed,” I said. I was trying to shake the fog out of my head and it wasn’t moving. “She’s staying in here from now on.” I looked up at him and he looked uncomfortable.“No can do, love,” he replied. “Got my orders. She needs to sleep in her own room tonight.”
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I ended up crying myself to sleep. I remembered Adam guiding me to my bed and Dayna tucking me in. They both sat on the bed until I fell into darkness. But it didn’t stay dark for long. I soon found myself standing on the crescent-shaped cliff top overlooking the ocean. It was still night, and the wind was howling around me and my hair was flying around my face. I turned away from the sea view and saw all the wolves at my feet, asleep. I looked over to the side of the cliff and saw the cage in the same place. From where I was standing, I could see something inside, but it wasn’t until I got closer that I could see the shadow of the wolf and the other version of me curled up together, asleep. I looked down and the silver chain was still around my ankle.“Hey!” I called &
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I sat up in bed and looked around. It was still early morning, and the sun was still rising. I decided that I wasn’t going to sleep anymore and pulled myself out of bed. I was surprised and relieved to see Dayna and Adam both asleep on the sofa. Dayna was curled into Adam’s chest and his arm was around her. They both looked peaceful. I smiled and wandered into the dressing room.I knew that Asher said I was confined in my room, but I never really listened to authority at the best of times, and well… these weren’t even close to that. I put on my workout shorts and top and pulled my hair into a high ponytail. Armed with a towel, water and my headphones, I headed towards the door. I tried the door, expecting it to be locked, but I was pleasantly surprised as it pulled open. That lasted seconds when I went to st
(Dayna’s POV)“Hey Dayna” Kaeleigh looked at me with a funny look on her face.“Yeah,”“I’m meant to ask about your granny!” I was excited and shocked when Kaeleigh asked about Granny. Shocked because, well, how did she even know about my Granny? But I was excited because Granny was my favourite person in the world.“How do you know about my Granny?” I couldn’t help but ask. Kaeleigh shrugged and then told us about her dream. I was fascinated to hear everything, so fascinated that I didn’t even notice when Adam slipped his hand into mine and entwined our fingers together. I looked down half way through Kaeleigh’s dream and saw him running his thumb lightly along mine. I looked up at him a
(Chase’s POV)I reached up and flushed the toilet from my position on the floor. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Once the strong Alpha heir of the largest pack in Europe, and now the Alpha of one of the smallest packs, and sitting on the floor of my bathroom with my head down a toilet. I had been here most of the night. We called a pack meeting yesterday, first to tell the pack the reports from the rescue mission, and why Kaeleigh was still at Crimson Shadow. Before that, I had a brief chat with Elaina Harrell about what Kaeleigh had said about paths and exact actions and she agreed with what Kaeleigh had said. She said that if Kaeleigh’s wolf was telling her to stay put, then she should do that.“The wolf in you is a direct connection to your int

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
