(Kaeleigh’s POV)
I ended up crying myself to sleep. I remembered Adam guiding me to my bed and Dayna tucking me in. They both sat on the bed until I fell into darkness.
But it didn’t stay dark for long. I soon found myself standing on the crescent-shaped cliff top overlooking the ocean. It was still night, and the wind was howling around me and my hair was flying around my face. I turned away from the sea view and saw all the wolves at my feet, asleep. I looked over to the side of the cliff and saw the cage in the same place. From where I was standing, I could see something inside, but it wasn’t until I got closer that I could see the shadow of the wolf and the other version of me curled up together, asleep. I looked down and the silver chain was still around my ankle.
“Hey!” I called &
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I sat up in bed and looked around. It was still early morning, and the sun was still rising. I decided that I wasn’t going to sleep anymore and pulled myself out of bed. I was surprised and relieved to see Dayna and Adam both asleep on the sofa. Dayna was curled into Adam’s chest and his arm was around her. They both looked peaceful. I smiled and wandered into the dressing room.I knew that Asher said I was confined in my room, but I never really listened to authority at the best of times, and well… these weren’t even close to that. I put on my workout shorts and top and pulled my hair into a high ponytail. Armed with a towel, water and my headphones, I headed towards the door. I tried the door, expecting it to be locked, but I was pleasantly surprised as it pulled open. That lasted seconds when I went to st
(Dayna’s POV)“Hey Dayna” Kaeleigh looked at me with a funny look on her face.“Yeah,”“I’m meant to ask about your granny!” I was excited and shocked when Kaeleigh asked about Granny. Shocked because, well, how did she even know about my Granny? But I was excited because Granny was my favourite person in the world.“How do you know about my Granny?” I couldn’t help but ask. Kaeleigh shrugged and then told us about her dream. I was fascinated to hear everything, so fascinated that I didn’t even notice when Adam slipped his hand into mine and entwined our fingers together. I looked down half way through Kaeleigh’s dream and saw him running his thumb lightly along mine. I looked up at him a
(Chase’s POV)I reached up and flushed the toilet from my position on the floor. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Once the strong Alpha heir of the largest pack in Europe, and now the Alpha of one of the smallest packs, and sitting on the floor of my bathroom with my head down a toilet. I had been here most of the night. We called a pack meeting yesterday, first to tell the pack the reports from the rescue mission, and why Kaeleigh was still at Crimson Shadow. Before that, I had a brief chat with Elaina Harrell about what Kaeleigh had said about paths and exact actions and she agreed with what Kaeleigh had said. She said that if Kaeleigh’s wolf was telling her to stay put, then she should do that.“The wolf in you is a direct connection to your int
(Cade POV)I stood in the shadows at the back, close to the trees. I watched in the hall earlier as she had been awarded the Elder rank. I watched her parents leave. I would never get to be introduced to them. I would never get the chance to ask for her father’s permission to take his daughter’s hand in marriage. The world would never know that we had found each other. And now, by the bonfire, I listened as they told stories about her life. Her friends talked about her loves and her hate. About her crazy schemes and her beautiful dreams. Of course, I had learned nothing new. In the limited times we spent together in secret, we had talked about everything and nothing. I knew my Zee better than anyone. And yet no one would ever know that I existed in her life, or her in mine. I had this great big hole in me and I couldn’t tell anyone about
(Cade’s POV)“I think it’s time we have a talk,” I watched Kaeleigh as she swayed on her feet. What was everyone drinking tonight? Adam glared at me from his seat on the floor. Kaeleigh’s eyes were rimmed red, like she had been crying the whole day. She probably was. I had a feeling that what I was about to tell her wasn’t going to help, either.************* Flashback 30 minutes earlier ***I knew as soon as I entered my bedroom that I wasn’t alone. I walked in and switched on my lamp by the bed.“What do you want, Asher?” I sighed. “It’s late, and I’m tired.”“I wanted to confirm a theory,&rdquo
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked with Cade down into the gardens. It was coming up to 4am, so it was still quiet. I knew from observations out of the window over the last seven or so weeks that warrior training started at 5am. But that was in the front gardens, and where Cade led me to was somewhere else. The garden was obviously not a working area garden. There were flower beds full of brightly coloured flowers in neat rows and in the centre was a stone shelter of columns.Cade was quiet as we walked up to the shelter, which I was happy with. Just being outside felt nice. I certainly wasn’t in any rush to go back to my room. There were some stone benches, and Cade gestured to me to sit on one. I watched him as he sat next to me. I liked Cade; I didn’t like that he was Asher’s Beta, but he was a nice guy. He looked stressed right now, and
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“She’s your mate?” I couldn’t believe what Cade had just told me. “Like your fated mate? The one that you have been mated to in secret for several years?” and he nodded.“How is that even possible?” a thousand thoughts were running through my head at once. “I mean, I never saw her mark,” and he chuckled.“That woman is damn good at makeup,” he said. “Once she used some stuff on me, took all my tattoos away, it was crazy.”“So you let her put make-up on you?” I giggled, and he smiled.“I’d let her do anything she wants.” And then Cade frowned.
(Asher’s POV)I watched Cade’s expression turn to horror in reaction to what I just said. Frankly, I was hurt that he would think I would do something like that. Despite his obvious betrayal of loyalty to me just now, I would never dream of willingly allowing my bastard of a father near his woman. But I needed Cade. He was my best friend and had been with me through all the shit.“I don’t want to have to do this, Cade,” I said, trying to make him understand that really didn’t want to cause him pain. “But I can’t lose another person that I love.” He looked shocked at what I said and I suspect I was meaning Kaeleigh when I said that, and I was, but I also meant him. I didn’t wanna lose him, too.But yeah, Ka

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
