(Chase’s POV)
I had Kaeleigh in my arms with her clinging on to my neck as we made our way back to the main pack house. She hadn’t stopped shaking and was mumbling something to herself. I had linked my mum and told her that she and my sister were now on lockdown in the Alpha quarters and I expected to see them there when we got back.
The pack house was teaming with warriors when we arrived. Everett Stanton, our Warrior Commander, had called in every single pack warrior on to immediate duty, so with our own warriors and the visiting ones, we had almost a thousand on high alert.
“Alpha,&
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I threw another book at him. I couldn’t think straight. Everything inside of me was trying to spill out. I felt broken and betrayed and I hated that once again my life was not in my control. I lashed out because I didn’t know what else I could do. I lashed out because I was a wounded animal and this was the only control I had. So I screamed at him, I threw things; I cried and I blamed him. I did all this because if I stopped and then I would have to admit that I had no control over my own life. All I had was the rage! But the rage burnt bright and fast and it burnt out and my screams turned to quiet sobs as I crumpled to the floor, exhausted. I don’t know if I fell asleep or just spaced out, but at some point I felt a familiar warmth and woodsy smell of Chase. I opened my eyes long enough to realise that he had moved me
(Kaeleigh’s POV)The rest of the day was spent preparing for the Mating Ball and the announcement of my intended union to Chase. Security had stepped up even further after the attempted kidnapping this morning and Alpha Daniel had called in so many resources from allies that at this point I thought that the number of on duty warriors outnumbered the guests. But by mid afternoon I was in my room surrounded by various people pawing at me. Zoey insisted on doing my hair and make-up while Matilda Falkner was ensuring that I wore her “master creation” correctly. I couldn’t argue with her because the dress was simply beautiful. A black strapless corset with a sweetheart line which flowed into a full floor-length gown at the back but swooped up to mid-thigh at the front, with thousands of tiny black diamonds that glittered in the lights a
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I stared in silence as the warriors dragged Adam away. I knew he could see the recognition in my eyes.“Kaeleigh.” he shouted, “Tell them who I am.” My mind was racing. I didn’t understand. How could it be possible? I saw him die. I remember seeing him die.“Chase please,” I turned to Chase, who looked at me in shock. “Please stop it.”“Kaeleigh, what’s wrong?”“Please, just trust me,” I begged him. I could feel the panic in me rising with the need to get him to stop the exile.“Kaeleigh I-” he stopped and then looked into my eyes and nodded. His eyes
(Chase’s POV)I am going to remember this moment for the rest of my life; I thought to myself as I placed the delicate gold bracelet on Kaeleigh’s right wrist. I placed a kiss on her hand and then turned to the audience and as my dad gave his blessing and announced us as the next Alpha and Luna of the Dark Moon pack, I raised our hands and the audience cheered. The excitement was palpable as we walked through the crowd. Everyone wanted to speak to us, to congratulate us. I worked my usual Alpha charm as I spoke to allies and potential allies from all over the world, but I could tell that Kaeleigh’s mind was elsewhere. Even when Emmerson Kane had formally introduced her to my cousin Dominic, who she had spent all week talking about meeting, telling me random facts about my own cousin like he was some sort of celebrity, she just about mana
(Kaeleigh’s POV)It wasn’t until I saw Jeremy’s reaction, and then Elaina breaking down right there on the floor, that I realised that I still didn’t quite believe it. I was stopping it from sinking in, protecting myself from the hurt. But seeing their confirmation, that was enough. I ran to the cell, and he smiled at me before I hugged him through the bars.“It’s you,” I cried. “It’s really you?”“Yeah, it’s me,” he held me tight, and I buried my head in his shoulder, and breathed in the scent that I hadn’t smelt in over nineteen years, that I thought I would never smell again.“I didn’t want to believe it, until I knew for certain,”
(Chase’s POV)“The rest of you go home and get some rest”I was ready to set off with Kaeleigh in my arms. I just wanted to get her away from Adam. I didn’t like the way he looked at her, and certainly didn’t trust him around her. I could have put it down to being a possessive mate, but my dad linked me right there, and I could tell that I wasn’t the only one thinking of it.“Once you are free I want a meeting. Something isn’t right,” and I nodded before heading off out the door to take Kaeleigh home. There was a car waiting outside the detention centre and I climbed in the back, keeping her on my knee. I could tell she was falling asleep from the change in her breathing pattern and in the couple of minute
**** Trigger Warning **** The following chapter contains content of a distressing nature. Details of sexual and physical assault are included in the chapter.(Kaeleigh’s POV)The next week or so was busy. Chase told me that he wanted me to train with Zack so I could build my self defence up. Luna Elise wanted to spend time teaching me all the Luna duties and a sudden new big deal came up at work between Rose Bower International and us.I was struggling to fit in the time to go see Jonathan, and part of me suspected that was the plan. I had a feeling that Chase was purposely having my schedule filled up, so I couldn’t see Jonathan. I got that he was just trying to protect me, but it was starting to get overbearing. Even if part of me does think he is right.
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I watched in fear as Brandt’s large blond wolf form stalked slowly towards me. I could feel his eyes burning into me as he barred his teeth and let out a low snarl. I tried to inch slowly backwards, but he saw and growled louder.Everything inside me screamed at me to run, but I knew I wasn’t going to get anywhere. I could feel my ankle throbbing and I could see that it was already beginning to swell slightly. I knew it was going to be a bitch to walk on. I tore my eyes away from the vicious animal who was out for my blood to survey my options.Option one: sit here and wait for him to reach me and rip out my throat. Yeah, pass on that. Option two: jump up and run for the door behind me, hoping that it was unlocked, and that my ankle wasn’t broken and could take my weigh

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
