Petrified.

That was the closest word I could use to describe how I felt after Rogu said those words. Apart from my mouth hanging open, I didn’t react for several seconds. However, that was enough for him to know his words had gotten through to me, judging by the satisfied smile on his face.

He reclined back in his chair as he watched me with an amused look, sipping coffee from a mug I hadn’t noticed before. Soon enough, I came to, and turned around to check if anyone had heard. Fortunately, no one else was in the room with us.

“No one else heard, so don’t worry. This is only between the two of us,” he said, reading my thoughts.

I gulped as several thoughts passed through my mind. Had Gwyddion gone back on his promise to me by telling Rogu about my father? He had sworn he was the only person who knew because the Moon Goddess had told him. What if he had been mistaken?

Even if Rogu did know, what proof did he have? Even if he had proof and wanted to use it against me, what
