AIDAN

‘We will be out of your hair by the time you return,’ Tara said.

Did she not know that I wanted nothing more than for her and our daughter to be all tangled up in my hair with no way of getting loose?

‘If you ever will,’ she said.

Fuck.

Her words played in my head on constant repeat as I drove back to the hotel, having canceled every other of my plans for the day. I couldn’t be productive in my state, so I just went back to my suite.

And yes, immediately I got to my room, the first place I headed was to the minibar to pour myself a glass of my thousand-year-old cognac. The strongest.

If the circumstances we were in were completely different and Tara had said those words to me, I would have been offended by it. But this? This was well deserved.

She deserved to know, and I was a douchebag for not having the guts to open up to her, but even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. It was just too much.

So what did I do? I drank with the intention of passing out so that when I woke up, I would f

TARAWatching Aidan leave after our fight wasn’t easy. I could barely describe my feelings because they were all over the place, but I couldn’t help the way I reacted to hearing about the supposed date plans he made with Nadia.A part of me wished that things were different, but we couldn’t just erase all the things that happened. I knew very well that the first step to healing things was a conscious effort from both parties to let the past go, but it wasn’t so easy when I was the only one on the receiving end.It had been days since Aidan left the house, still without an explanation, and I didn’t know if he had returned to Attica pack or not. I couldn’t even bring myself to ask around about him.The line was between pride and hurt, but I couldn’t choose a side.Nadia already asked me about Aidan a couple of times, but I had no words for her. I just hoped that with time, she would ask fewer questions, and eventually, he would slip to the back of her mind.I couldn’t bear the thought o

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   53: Supposed To Be Here

TARAI woke up expecting to see Nadia in my room as she sometimes did since I slept much later than she did, but the door was still closed as I left it before my nap, and she wasn’t in my room.Stretching on the luxurious bed that was as soft as a thousand feather pillows put together, I smiled to myself.Figuring that I must not have slept for that long, I rolled to the side of the bed and got on my feet, making my way to the bathroom to relieve myself.Splashing some water on my face to wake me up faster, I went back into my room and checked the time to see that it was past five pm already. So I did sleep for a long time.Knowing that Nadia would be wide awake by this time or just stirring up as I did, I prepared to go down and get started on dinner.I decided to first check on her, so I made my way to the next room on the right side of the one I chose as mine for our stay in Aidan’s house, as I wanted Nadia to be as close to me as possible in the unfamiliar environment. She wasn’t

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   54: Keep Her Safe

TARAIt had been twelve and a half minutes since Jenna said she was going to call me with an update about finding Nadia, but she hadn’t. These were the longest twelve minutes of my life, and I had never cried so much in so little time. All Esme could do was pray for Nadia’s safety and comfort me, because not only could no one dare go out when StoneWolves were roaming around, but there was also a storm that had just started. It wasn’t so severe as this wasn’t the time of the year when the storms hit, but it was enough to make everyone shut their doors and not willingly leave the comforts of their homes.Different thoughts took shape in my mind, the next worse than the last, thinking of how much danger my child was in.She would be scared no doubt, and I just couldn’t stomach the thought that something had happened or would happen to her.Dialing Jenna’s number again, I put the phone on speaker and laid it on top of the kitchen island. My hands were weak and shaking so badly that I coul

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   55: I Was Dying

TARAI had never run into a Stonewolf before, but from what I’d heard, they only needed to swipe you with either their claws or fangs to get the tiniest bit of their DNA streaming in your blood, and that was it.The figure in the storm must have noticed me from afar, and when I’d gotten close enough to identify his face, I realized that he was wearing a mask over his head. That was the first flag, but that wasn’t what made me freeze. It was the rough dark-brown patch of skin that had spread from the tip of his fingers, running up his arms, and disappearing into his shirt. It was almost scaly like a land dried up with drought, and that meant only one thing.A StoneWolf.A shaky gasp escaped my lips on realizing this, and adrenaline kicked in.“I don’t want any trouble,” I still said, trying to talk my way out, but my voice came out in a squeak, and he laughed.No. He cackled.“Please, I’m just looking for my daughter,” I said, taking a wobbled step back, and hoping that that would mak

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection    56: The Children’s Hospital

TARAThis wasn’t supposed to be happening. ‘What?’ You would ask.All of it.None of this was supposed to be happening.Aidan wasn’t supposed to be stepping into my life and doing a three-sixty on everything I knew or thought I knew about him.Aidan was supposed to be the man who sent Kayla to bathe my baby in acid and stick a blade in my stomach, and not the one whose body shook and eyes glazed with tears when he thought that my life was ending. Aidan was supposed to be my nemesis, not my hero. His voice cut through my thoughts. “Tara, keep your eyes open.”He scooted closer to me on the floor and pulled me to his chest. This way, I could feel all the heat from his bare body, and hear the way his heart was pounding erratically in his chest. Aidan rocked me back and forth against himself, sputtering words, and something hit me.Aidan was praying.I slowly snapped out of whatever shock or haze I was in, and I shook my head, finding my voice.“Aidan.” He made an unintelligible sound,

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   57: Mad At Her

TARAAidan and I hurriedly made the trip to the children’s hospital, and even after he assured me multiple times that Nadia wasn’t hurt, I still couldn’t find it in me to let my worries go. My blood was still so charged with adrenaline that I didn’t even feel the pain from the gash on my hand even though it was still bleeding.Immediately we crossed the double glass doors of the hospital, I sprinted down the hallway, looking for the first person I could find who would show me where my daughter was. The place was dead quiet, and it sounded like only a handful of people were in the building, which was understandable because it was already past eleven PM, and no one wanted to run into what was lurking out there.I sighted an elderly nurse, and I ran up to her.“Hi, I’m sorry, but I need to see my daughter, Nadia Moon. The hospital called and said that they had her. Can you please take me to her,” I begged, fighting to keep the tears from sounding in my voice.“Come this way with me, pl

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   58: In Her Bed

TARAWe had to wait for Aidan to make some calls to ensure that we were safe to enter the streets before we could leave the hospital. Since we had Nadia now, taking such a risk was out of the question.I didn’t bother speaking to Nadia about her actions right there in the hospital. I needed her to be safe at home first before I would do that.Motherhood did put a test on your patience sometimes.Aidan came back to meet us in the hallway after he had taken his call. We were sitting on one of the benches, and Nadia was snuggled up against me.“We can leave, but it’s a long walk from here, so Jace is bringing the car, and I’ll drive you both back home.”I nodded. “And the StoneWolves?” My voice was small.“They’ve been taken care of. It turned out that they weren’t so much in number, but you know that one StoneWolf is just as dangerous. I’ll meet up with the right people later to discuss and see how we can make something like this never repeat itself,” Aidan assured. “This isn’t a risk a

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   59: It’s Your House

AIDANI was unapologetic about letting the rest of the world burn when it came to Tara and our kid, so one didn’t really need to think too much to guess the kinds of things I would be willing to do when it was them involved. When Tara asked me to help her with Nadia, there was really only one answer, but I couldn’t help the many emotions running through my mind.It was my fault. All of it was my fault.Tara and Nadia had lived in this pack for over eight years, and I’d only been here for weeks, but look how much damage my presence had caused in their lives. They lost their home, Nadia went missing looking for me, and Tara almost lost her life.Goddess.I could feel her limp in my arms, and it felt like I was dying inside.Standing by the entrance door and watching Nadia sleep peacefully on her bed after Tara showed me how to get her ready, I knew that I had to do something differently or risk something much worse happening later. And that started with getting to the root of this godda

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   80: Greeted With Silence

TARAI didn’t expect to be hit with so many memories as soon as Aidan drove us past Attica Pack’s borders, those from the events surrounding my departure, and more from way before then, but I was.Attica pack had changed—in a really good way—, but with the anxiousness and the bad memories this place brought up, I would have turned around and headed back where I came from if Aidan wasn’t with me.He must have noticed my dampened mood, seeing as he rushed in and out of the large penthouse after showing Nadia to her room. Not even the jaw-dropping gorgeousness of Aidan’s condo could get me to relax. As soon as he got back, Aidan took my hands in his, automatically calming me down, and he led me to a sofa. His eyes held the most understanding and patience, something I was so grateful for. Aidan didn’t know that this was more than just facing my parents after the tragic event years ago, but also some dark traumatic experiences of mine that I barely thought of anymore because it was way eas

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   79: Getting Settled

AIDANShouldn’t I have been ecstatic that Nadia and Tara were finally coming to Attica pack, where I most wanted them to be, even if this journey was only temporary? No arguments…I was. I was happy for this development, but dread coiled itself around my neck more than joy, making me question if this was the right time, or if once again, Jace was right, and I had dug a grave for myself that I couldn’t get out of.I hadn’t entirely been honest with myself, and neither have I been one hundred percent honest with Tara. My briefcase stared at me, and so did all the evidence from my attempt to change the hands of fate.Documents for a new diner in Attica pack with keys I had intended to give Tara, documents with Nadia’s name, admitting her as a pupil in Attica’s most prestigious institution, a new home for them, and subsequently, for us, and even more incriminating information that I couldn’t dare name. These should have been a thing of joy and pride to share with Tara, but I’d gone and don

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection    78: Soon, Baby, Soon

TARAConsidering the duration of my pregnancy and Nadia’s eight and a half years, I hadn’t seen my mother in close to a decade, and I hadn’t heard one word about her or anything relating to Attica pack except Adian. My father too, but from the memory of a loaded shotgun pointed at my head and the fury I’d seen in his eyes, I doubted if my father still wanted anything to do with me even after all this time.Back then, one of the reasons why I’d contemplated not keeping my baby—an unthinkable thing to me now— was the fact that my mom was constantly sick, and my father was barely making enough to take care of us and her medical needs, talk more of a kid.It started with muscle problems, before morphing into high blood pressure, and eventually, symptoms of something more dreadful. I had no idea how bad things had gotten… if Mom was better, or if she was…I shook the thought off my mind. I believed in the power of the mind, so I didn’t want to conjure up any bad news for my family. The eve

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   77: Still Alive

AIDANAs I couldn’t get Tara to change her mind about leaving the house I bought for them, I settled on the next best thing to living in the same house with them, which was seeing them at every chance that I could get.I planned to spend as much time as I could catching up on all the things I’d missed with Tara and Nadia, and nothing beat the excited look on Tara’s face when I showed up to her diner the next day, or the squeal that erupted from Nadia’s throat when she saw me.We were making some real progress that I was more than happy with.“Aidan,” Tara called as soon as Nadia let go of me, disappearing to the back of the diner to go feast on the snacks I picked up for her on my way over. “You’ll spoil her if you keep up with that.”I chuckled as I took in Tara’s gorgeous face. Her small pouty lips were tweaking, fighting a smile, and her eyes pulled me in. A memory of how dark those siren eyes went when she fitted under me that night flashed in my mind, and I swallowed thickly.A f

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   76: The Pack’s Retreat Complex

TARAWe stood in a spot I was familiar with around the corner but in front of a building I didn’t recognize because I was pretty certain that the massive off-white structure with red roof and lights blaring from every angle of it wasn’t here the last time I passed through here.It was a new building. And from what it looked like, the building was fast gaining some attraction from the pack as young shifters hobbled themselves together in groups in a handful of places. From the corner of my eye, I could spot an outdoor tennis and basketball court to the side of the building, and a volleyball and football field to the other side. I instantly smiled at what Aidan wanted to show me, but I was still confused, so I asked. “What am I looking at?”Aidan took a deep breath behind me as he looked ahead at the building, and he responded. “The pack’s retreat complex.”I could hear the excitement in Aidan’s voice, and itched to know what it was about.“Retreat complex. What’s that?”Aidan came to

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   75: Time For A Change

TARAWe had done a lot within only the first few hours of our date, leading me to suspect that Aidan had been planning this for more time than I thought. I was having more fun than I had in months…and an entirely different experience than I’d had in years, so I wasn’t complaining at all.First, it was an amazing dinner, just as Aidan had said, and then we started to walk around town. We found ourselves at a movie house where we spent the whole time gossiping, laughing, and pissing off the rest of the spectators before we finally got the subtle cue from everyone to fuck off.We moved on to a pottery workshop where Aidan successfully charmed the female potter to let us shape some clay. It was messy, but with the constant laughing, and getting to see how handsome Aidan looked when he focused like that, it was perfect.Aidan had long finished his work which resembled the cup he claimed it was, while I was still struggling to make my vase look nothing like a deformed shark as Aidan watched

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   74: Mr. Good Di*k

TARAI could only avoid Jenna’s persistent questioning for so long with the excuse that I was tired after last night, to which she mocked the hell out of me, but it was better than admitting that I slept with the man I’d been avoiding for so many years and that I feared it was something more. The next day at the diner, it caught up with me, and I could not evade Jenna’s curiosity anymore.Tara was on her makeshift playground behind the diner, the one that Aidan had come in with “reinforcements” to make safer for her to play in, so I kind of ran out of excuses to give Jenna.“You’re seriously going to make me beg and grovel at your feet for the scraps, Tara? Is this what we have become? I thought we were more than this,” Jenna spoke, trying to get me to talk through her attempt at blackmail…or in this case, friendmail.“You don’t even like him, Jen,” I defended. “Why do you want to hear what happened?”Jenna feigned offense. “I’m only wary of him and watching his moves so he doesn’t ha

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   73: Just The Two Of Us

TARAMy eyes blinked open, and I momentarily forgot where I was. Looking around me to accustom myself to the darkness of the room, I remembered where I was, and when the steady inhale and exhale of a second person sounded next to me on the bed, memories of what happened between us hit me like a train.“Shit,” I cursed, looking around me for something to tell me what time it was. It was still dark, so it wasn’t dawn yet.I didn’t plan to sleep over at Aidan’s house. Hell, I didn’t plan to sleep with him at all!Sighing, and making sure that Aidan was still asleep, I tossed the covers off me. ‘Covers I did not recall throwing on in the first place.’ That must have been Aidan.Red slowly heated my cheeks in a blush.Speaking of, I let my gaze wander over and settle over Aidan on the bed, finding it so easy to make out his sleeping features in the dark. He was on his back, and his bare, sparsely inked chest rose and fell steadily, and before I knew it, I was lost studying every single de

  • Alpha Aidan's Rejection   72: Yes. Perfect.

TARAAidan didn’t spend as much time pleasuring me with his tongue and fingers as it should have taken to tire me out, but by the time I had come down from the high of my most intense orgasm in a very long time, I was spent.Staring longingly at Aidan with a dreamy smile on my face, I hummed in approval when he rose from his knees to tower over me on the bed. When my eyes fell on his impressively beautiful and erect cock, soaked and dripping with pre-come, a new energy and hunger instantly filled me, and I propped myself up on my elbows, ready to take him.Aidan’s eyes were dark with need, his nostrils flared slightly in ragged breaths, and his plump and parted lips were still smeared with my release. He graced me with a small smirk as he closed the distance between us and grabbed me by my waist, his fingers branding me deliciously.“I see that look in your eyes, Tara,” Aidan started, drawing small circles on my skin and turning what was left of my brain into mud. I managed to respon
