NATHAN

“My Nate…” her parting words reverberated in my ears as I stood by the cliff for a long moment, longer than necessary. Arya was so different, but she was so familiar. When I had kissed her, the moment I touched those soft lips, I had felt a desire ripple through not just my body, but also hers. I had realized the moment she had gotten comfortable with my touch, and when she had tried to take charge. She had risen on her toes to meet me equally. How could someone be so timid and simple and yet so fierce and dominating?

“I didn’t want you to stop the first time,” her voice echoed in my head on an endless loop.

“Sir?” One of my security guards spoke.

I looked up at him. At least six men were standing around me, “Sir, can I get you something?” He added, feeling uncomfortable.

I shook my head and decided to take my thoughts back home. I needed to see what I could do about this Arya situation. What did that Sri mean when she asked Arya, ‘Have you forgotten everything?’ And why did Ar

ARYAI didn’t know why but tears kept pouring down my cheeks today. Sri, who had given me an earful for my incandescent behavior, had left for the evening. She was going to spend the night at Ajit’s, her long term boyfriend and fiancé. Raghu too was out with his friends and I was all alone. Two months were still left in my term, and after that I was supposed to go back to India forever. But today, I wanted to go back immediately. Not because I didn’t want to be with Nathan. Oh, I desperately wanted to be with him, but I knew that it was neither possible nor plausible. So, to silence that desperation, I wanted to put an end to any possibility. And the best way was to get a one-way ticket to India. I knew if – no when – when I will go back home next, it would be the last time. And I would never see Cape Town ever again. So, to make this sad thing possible, I had called my professor and begged him to let me go early. Hearing my tearful plea, he agreed to let me go after I had submitted t

ARYAHe looked so stunned that I almost laughed. He was confused. “Why are you crying then?” he demanded, outraged. “It was as if you are doing something awful, against all your damn wishes.”Only if I could tell him!“Where are we going?” I wiped my face and smiled now.“Why are you crying?” he demanded. “I need to know why you are crying so harshly.”I shook my head and smiled again. “These tears, they come with the territory. But you will soon give me the reason to smile all my life…” I grabbed his collar and shook him slightly. “You will give me memories that will make me happy forever…” he looked so confused. “So, tell me, Mr. Anderson,” he screwed his face at this, I leaned in and pressed my lips to him, he relaxed slightly, “Nate, my Nate,” I whispered at his lips, “Tell me, Nate, where are you taking me for my perfect vacation.”He stared at me for a long moment, then nodded.“I need to know why you are crying, but it can wait. I am sure that Daniel will be here in a short w

NATHANI have been to this island more times than I could count, but this time was worth it. Being with her, away from prying eyes, away from all the distractions, was everything. Deep down I was feeling guilty, yes, a lot guilty for abandoning the empire I had built from scratch, but I was hopeful that James would be able to hold the fort down for a few days, at least. Maybe, I will catch up on emails – and give away my location and privacy to Daniel in the process – later in the week.“What are you thinking?” she asked, bringing me back to my senses. She was wearing a long t-shirt and shorts. Her bare legs were dangling from the chair and I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she was. I could see that she was much more comfortable around me now, especially after our adventure in the ocean. She didn’t mind anymore if I wrapped my hands around her body or kiss her when she was not expecting. She was sitting on a chair by the kitchen counter and eating happily. She was so easy to

  • Almost Perfect Vacation    CHAPTER 12

NATHANFor the first time in my entire life, I was so shocked and embarrassed. What was I thinking? I didn’t ask her to be my girlfriend or my live-in. I asked her to be my home! Who does that? Holy hell, I haven’t even fucked her yet. What has gotten into me?To pass on this weird feeling developing in the pit of my stomach, I picked up my wine bottle and started to drain it. Identically, she picked up her vodka. For a girl who doesn’t like wine, she sure could drink neat vodka! As she finished almost half of the bottle, sipping quietly, staring at the sky or horizon, I asked, “When did you start drinking?”She chuckled but she was in her senses. “The week I came to your gorgeous country.”There was no slur in her voice, she must be a good drinker!“Before that?” I asked curiously. And she laughed maniacally. Okay! Maybe she was a bit drunk.“Sri made me drink. She said and I quote, ‘if I have to live and enjoy life in this country, I need to drink,’ so yeah, I have been drinking eve

The way she kissed me, loved me, fought to take charge, I still could not push her out of my mind. And I wanted more… so much more…I knocked at the bathroom door behind which she was currently hiding.“Can I come in?” I asked.“Yes,” she replied, her voice hoarser than my expectations. As I entered, I saw her sitting in the shower. “What’s wrong?” I asked, rushing to her. Her head was down on her knees and she was hugging herself. “Does it hurt or was I that bad?” I added. She sniffed and looked up. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was crying.I could never stand anyone’s tears, but hers simply broke my heart.“Hey,” I spoke, as I moved her hair from her face and wiped it. “I am sorry,” she choked.“Why are you sorry?” I asked. “I am sorry,” she hugged me and sobbed so harshly that I could not understand what I was supposed to do.I picked up her sobbing form in my arms and carried her out. NATHANThe reality came crashing down upon me worse than I had ever imagined. I was not looking for a long-term relationship with this weird girl, but knowing what she has been through and what she would go through once we part ways, sent shivers down my spine.“You cannot marry a stranger,” I snapped.“Many girls in my country marry a stranger, Nate,” she smiled sadly. “I am lucky that I was not married off to a man when I was barely fourteen. At least I was given time to grow up, time to live my dream, time to meet you –” she whispered the last word sadly.“Don’t go back,” I insisted. “Stay here. I will ensure that you have a visa. I will arrange for a permanent residency for you here.”“And do what?” she asked, smiling now.“I told you Amy can make you a star in the arts community,” I suggested. “Open a gallery, run shows. Be famous, be rich.”“And the cost would be?” she asked with raised eyebrows.“You don’t have to pay anything… I will make sure that everything is sorted,” I str

I was wearing nothing but one of his t-shirts.“How many days are we here for?” I asked after a pause. He grinned. His demeanor was so casual now, I liked it very much. It was like he was at ease, in his natural environment. No mush-no fuss!“How many days do you wish to stay here?” he asked with a smile.I sighed as I bent over the kitchen counter and stretched, “Forever…” I moaned, my cheek pressed against the cold surface. “Oh, don’t do that,” he spoke, standing behind me and pushing himself.“Oh, I want to do everything in this foreve

NATHANI don’t know why, but I wanted to put as much distance as possible between her and myself. I feared what I would say if she asked me ‘Why’. Why did I feel this way? Why I was feeling betrayed? Why… How could I tell her that I didn’t want to let go of her? That the thought of another man owning her bothered me way too much. To think that after a few days, some other man would kiss her, touch her the way I did… the way only I should be able to… As I pictured a faceless man grabbing her bare body and having his way with her without her consent, my anger rose. I fisted my hands to temper my rage and walked to the cottage. I picked up my phone and walked out.I was moving to the opposite side of the island when I heard her shout.“Nathan…” she was calling my name.I stopped to see if she was hurt, would I be able to tell through her shout? “Nathan…” she called again. She was panicking. Of course, she was panicking because of my abrupt behavior. She was here for a fun week, a week

NATHANUsually people say that it takes a lot of courage to be where I was, but they were wrong. It takes even more… hell of a lot more… well, it takes every ounce of courage that a person ever had in his blood.“It will be fine, sir,” Daniel spoke as he pressed his hand on my shoulder.Finding comfort in his touch, I knocked. There was no doorbell! I looked around, everyone in the vicinity was staring at us. She was right, it was a small village, and a group of white men in suits looked alien in the area. The door opened and a man in his fifties was standing there.“Yes?” he looked a little taken aback at the sight of me and my three bodyguards. Three were with me in the front, but at least eight were lurking in the shadows. Daniel had insisted on taking more men with us, and judging by the area, he was right. Damn it, why was he always right?“Mr. Naaaathan,” I asked with folded hands. I had asked Jay, who was standing beside Daniel, how to greet Arya’s family, and I was right in d

  • Almost Perfect Vacation   CHAPTER 19

ARYAWhen I woke up, I found myself in a room so luxurious that it seemed that I was not in a hospital but a five-star hotel.I sat up, there was a hint of pain in my torso, but it felt like from an old injury. How long was I out? I looked around, there was a bed adjacent to mine and it was unkempt as if someone was occupying it. A laptop was placed on it and it was clear that someone had just left it there. I looked out the window, we were back in Cape Town… back to land… back to real life.My phone was placed on the table next to my bed. As I picked it up to check it, I heard a voice filled with relief, “Ah, you are up…”I looked up, and a very tired but perfectly healthy Nathan was standing in the doorway.I smiled at his handsome face. He raced up to me and pressed his lips to mine. I pulled back and he groaned. “I saved you, I deserve a hearty kiss, at least,” he grinned.“You deserve a lot more, but just not with me, Mr. Anderson,” I croaked. He scowled, then spoke, “Are we bac

ARYAI could hear him cry, but it was as if my brain was shutting down. I could hear his voice, but it was from a distance. The pain in my body was insurmountable, but somehow, closing my eyes made it bearable.Knock! Knock! Knock!Someone was knocking… how?A new burst of pain spread through my body as I felt him take me in his arms. What was he doing? Trying to kill me?“Hold your breath,” I heard him shout. Why? I heard a lot of water gush inside the box, and I tried to hold my breath but I couldn’t. I felt water splash on my face for a second, then I was being lifted upwards. Someone was pulling me up.“We should leave before another wave comes in,” I heard a familiar voice.“Go…” Nathan agreed, holding me in his arms again.“How did she get hurt?” the familiar voice asked. And I recognized him, it was Daniel.“How are you here so soon?” Nathan demanded.“Promise to not kill me?” Daniel requested.“Go on,” I could hear a scowl in Nathan’s voice.“I knew that you would do something

NATHANI caught her as she fell in the box and pressed the button to close the lid. The lid started to close but with the pressure with which the water was gushing inside, I knew we were dead.“Arya,” I patted her face, but she was unconscious. I held her by her waist and pushed myself to the ‘drain button’. “Come on… close… damn it!” I cursed as I pressed the button. The water started to drain, but still more kept pouring in. Was something stuck in the door? A thin slit was still open and the water was falling inside rapidly. The outlet speed was much slower in comparison to the inlet. “Arya, wake up…” I tried to shake her, but she was unconscious. “Arya I need to close the door, please stand,” I tried to put her on her feet, but she was fast asleep. “Wake up…” I patted her again. The water had now reached to the chest level.“Damn it!” I cursed as I struggled to check what was blocking the door. The inflow of water was too much and I needed both hands to check.“Arya…” I gave her
