Marona's POV
Laurence and I met at a very interesting event where I was volunteering for mental health awareness and he was funding the campaign with a famous politician.
I liked him and his way of dealing with things so I approached him. Luckily, we got connected with each other effortlessly and then he proposed to me for marriage after two years. I was the happiest girl in the world because I found my love.
He helped me inside the car and I smiled at him. He is not much of a talker and prefers to keep conversation short but I don't mind because he is always sensible and whatever he says, I agree with that.
We have had a beautiful and peaceful marriage of six months now. Maybe because he is hardly home and always travels for his 'Business'. The business about which I am not much aware but I have caught a glimpse of it and I would prefer to stay away from it.
I don't care what he does, his love and respect is enough for me.
I looked at him and he was busy on the phone, I scooted closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder.
He smiled and continued his work.
Soon we reached the venue and I took a deep breath. Like a gentleman Laurence gave me his arm to hold on as we walked inside through flashes of cameras.
I entered and released a sigh. Same flashy event where people are present just to achieve their goals and play politics. Parties like these help to make strong connections with wealthy people and I know Laurence is here for that, that's the only motive.
After greeting a few people together, he excused himself just as always and that's what I hate about parties. I feel lonely and trapped among the foxes. The boredom kills me and the annoying thing is, I can't leave without Laurence who takes forever in talking to people who are 'Important'.
After grabbing the drink, I decided to admire the hall which has a gothic vibe just like my gown which is black with a mermaid fit.
People here are not interesting but thankfully the architecture is.
"Hello, Mrs. Delgado!"
I heard an extra sugary voice and tried to act like I didn't hear her.
Fuck, this woman is everywhere to make me scratch my hair out.
"Mrs. Laurence?"
She sang in her fake voice like that would please me. It's so annoying.
Releasing a sigh, I turned around and with a fake smile on my lips.
"Ohh! Hi."
Not like I can't fake it, I do whenever is needed. Especially when it's in Laurence's favour, I have to be a good wife because this party seems important to him
"I saw you ignoring me."
She grinned awkwardly, like I care. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"Of course not, Mrs. Crasta... How dare I?"
I am not mean to people but she is really annoying and doesn't take the hint. She always approaches me with a new business proposal and offers a partnership which she is currently doing.
I am not against it but I am a doctor and I have no interest in business and considering Laurence's background, I am sure that she is not doing any good in her business. Everything is just a facade.
"Well, I see Mr. Laurence built his connections strong. He is always in business. You have got an ambitious husband."
She praised but I can sense the jealousy behind it.
"Yeah but that can be tiring sometimes, isn't it?..."
I forced a smile.
"I wish I could marry someone twice my age who is super rich. Just like you did, you are such an inspiration."
She knows that I insulted her but still she laughed it off.
"You are so funny!... Anyways, I have an interesting business proposal for you... I am___"
Here she is again.
"Mrs. Crasta, I forgot to make an important call... I'll find you again."
I interrupted her and walked away.
It feels bad to ignore her like this but I don't have any other rescue.
I wish, Laurence could have been with me to tackle these opportunists around me. They know that my husband is from a powerful family and I can be beneficial for them but I refuse to be a scapegoat for anyone.
I hate business politics and I am better out of it, no matter how well I can predict and tackle it.
This is why I hate these parties so much. I am just standing like a showpiece in the middle of people.
"The gown goes with your emerald eyes and brunette hair."
I heard that silky voice and turned around.
She is standing in front of me in her slender figure which is breathtaking. We have almost the same height but I am curvy and she is slim. Her blue eyes stared amusingly at me while holding a red Vine in her hands which matches her dress.
"Lovina!"
I forced a smile. She is Laurence's sister, well stepsister but I don't think it makes a difference because the family is___. Anyways, that topic is for some other day.
Did I mention that she always makes me feel uncomfortable around her like she is a mystery, she holds so many secrets in her blue eyes and her lips prevent her from spilling it.
Her eyes travelled on me mockingly.
"No scratches yet!"
She touched my arm and tried to wipe it with her thumb like I'll be hiding it behind the makeup.
I gently pushed her hand away from my arm.
"Sorry to disappoint you but my husband doesn't treat me like you think he should."
I don't know what her problem is. She is not really happy with my marriage with Laurence.
Her red lips curved into vicious smile.
"Touchwood!"
I tried to walk away from her.
"I thought you would avoid this party like you did for the last few months."
"I didn't avoid it, I was busy!"
I turned my head towards her.
She took slow but graceful steps towards me.
"Whenever I see you, I see intelligence dripping from your aura but unfortunately you don't use it for yourself."
Her mocking whisper made me frown.
"I don't know what you are talking about"
I refused to acknowledge her words.
"Of course you do"
She let out a mocking chuckle while gracefully keeping her empty glass down and picking up new one. I swear, if I would have been a man then Lovina would be on the list of the most beautiful girls I have ever met. She has grace, beauty, elegance, power and intelligence. She is one of the dangerous players from the Delgado family and that's why it bothers me that she is not happy with me being Laurence's wife.
"I am not someone random whom you can trick into your ignorance games. Turning blind eyes towards something can create a potential threat to you, Mrs. Laurence and I don't need to tell you that, do I?"
"Laurence is sensible enough to make decisions for us and I trust him."
I just want to end this conversation and go home. Lovina is a tricky person, I am sure she is here to make me spill something in her favour.
"Laurence is gathering power and do you know the reason behind it?"
She smirked.
"He is attending meetings, parties, charities, auctions and travelling around the world... Do you know why?"
I looked at Laurence who was talking to some men. I know why he is doing it and what will happen after that but it won't affect my peace, right? He has promised me a loving and beautiful family with peace which he will protect at any cost.
"To become the King"
I am hopeful that the time for this won't come for years because his father is still holding the position and as far as I know, he won't let his power go to anyone's hand. Not even his son.
It means I have enough time to change his decision and I am sure, he will understand.
Lovina nodded amused.
"See, I told you that you are aware of what happens around you but you don't show it... Or maybe you want the power which comes with that."
I grabbed a drink for myself and started walking knowing she won't leave me alone yet. She matched my steps beside me like I thought.
"So what do you want? You were expecting me to stop him from achieving his goals?"
Lovina let out a chuckle while fixing the diamond necklace around the neck which is more than the GDP of some countries.
"Goals or death?"
I stopped and frowned at her.
"You shouldn't wish that for your brother."
"I do have brothers but Laurence isn't one of them, Marona..."
She smirked but disgust was hidden behind it.
"You have married the wrong brother... Anyways, all the best because the game of power has begun and Laurence is the weakest player..."
Laurence is the elder one among siblings and he is heir to the throne without any opposition, what is she talking about.
"As much as I know, there is no competition!"
She widened her eyes like she didn't expect that answer from me.
"Because you didn't see any but sometimes we need to see beyond the things which are visible to naked eyes... There are many claims on the throne except Laurence's."
"Well, I am not really interested in these games of powers... I have a Delgado surname but I don't really feel it. There is a reason why I stay away from the Castle... And I am sure that Laurence is capable enough to play his own games."
I replied sternly.
"Of course he is but there is someone against him who is more powerful than Laurence. The person whose mind traps you before his power could and he is not alone."
She patted my back.
"I am just worried about you. Don't become a game in this instead of a becoming a Pawn... Because Pawns are just to be used but games are to be conquered..."
Well, now it's hard to understand her words. Why would anyone make me game in this?
"Good night, Lovina!"
I think it's enough conversation for tonight.
She smirked.
"Good night, just one more news before my departure..."
I frowned at her confident smile.
"Leonardo has decided to pass on his throne to Laurence by the end of this month. Laurence is turning thirty five soon, it's time!"
Her words shattered all my plans to change Laurence's decision. Why is this happening so soon, I was aware that this moment is bound to come but didn't expect it to come like this.
"Thanks for the news!"
I didn't show her my disappointment before walking away from her.
whenever this woman comes in front of me, she gives me something to stress on.
Later that night when we went back home, I was still thinking about the conversation which happened with Lovina.
Laurence freshened up and was about to get ready for the bed, should I ask him about it. He already looks tired.
But I need to know about it too.
The other thought says that he should have told me this before, why am I learning it from someone else?
Anyways, I don't want to fight with him because of it.
"Lovina was at the party"
I started the conversation, maybe now he will tell me.
"Lovina was at the party?"
He looked at me with a deep frown.
Does it mean that he wasn't aware of her presence? What game is Lovina playing by meeting me but not Laurence?
"What did she say?"
Now his attention was on me, more than he had for the whole night.
I placed the hot chocolate down.
"She said that your father has declared to make you King by the end of the month?"
I waited for his reaction.
"That's all?"
He frowned.
"Yes!"
I nodded and he chuckled.
"I thought she was there to create a mess... But they can't do anything now, I'll be the King and they all have to be under my command."
He looks confident.
I sighed, he is still not talking about why he didn't let me about it, should I ask him directly but will it make him mad? Will this lead to an argument?
"So what's the next step?"
I am giving you leads, Laurence. Pick it up and speak.
He sat on the bed while scrolling through his phone.
"We are leaving tomorrow for Castle..."
I froze in my place. All negative emotions ran through my body at once. The stomach churned like someone is twisting my guts. My heart started beating like it would tear my chest out. Weird numbness travelled in my legs making me weak.
"Castle?"
Laurence finally grabbed my shaky tone and looked at me.
He placed his phone down and patted the empty place beside him. I made my wobbly way beside him and sat down.
"Why are you so scared?"
He laughed it off but it's not funny. I can feel myself shaking from inside.
I fisted my hands as I forced the word out of me.
"We talked about it... I don't like to be there and you promised that you will never force me. Then why now?"
He sighed and rubbed his forehead like he was tired.
"If you are tired then we can talk tomorrow."
I said when he did that.
"It's a matter of a few days... I have to be there till my crown ceremony, and as my wife you are required there or else people will talk."
He patted my cheek.
"You have been a wonderful wife, don't let people talk otherwise... After everything is done, I'll drop you back here and will never ask you to stay there."
I released a shaky breath.
"How many days?"
"Marona, don't be anxious... I won't be able to focus on work if you distract me."
He sighed.
"Yeah, sorry!"
I nodded in understanding.
"But I don't feel safe there"
"You are my wife and no one can hurt you now."
He assured me while getting on the bed.
"Pack your things, we are leaving tomorrow."
I nodded not wanting to argue on the topic and ruin his mood but what about me? I don't want to go there.
There are many reasons to be scared of but the biggest reason is that one man about whom Lovina was talking.
The man who makes me see death whenever I look into his eyes, I have never been so terrified of anything in my entire life the way I fear him.
He will be there and this time I can't hide from him.
Marona's POV I couldn't sleep for the whole night after thinking about the coming few days. How am I going to deal and survive in that house?"You are applying juice on bread instead of butter."Della's sharp tone brought me back into reality and I realized what stupidity I was doing. I huffed while placing the bread down and sat at the table. "Thanks for snapping me out""It's necessary or else people tend to do stupid things when they are not focused."Her tone was off. "Meaning?"I asked confused. She sat beside me and grabbed my hand gently in her hands."Meaning, you don't have to do things which don't make you happy. You tell this to people then why don't you follow that. If you don't want to go, then say no!.. He is your husband and he should watch out for your comfort also. I am sure that you haven't said no even once because God knows what happens to you in front of him... You become a goddess of devotion and sacrifice."I smiled at her words."It's not like that, Della.
Marona's POV I blinked open my eyes and found myself in bed, after blinking for a moment and looking around I realised what happened with me. I sat up and rubbed my face embarrassed. God! I made a fool of myself in front of Mikhail. Now he knows that I am still terrified of him and he will do anything to use it against me. Why couldn't I just control my feelings for a few minutes?I need to do something about anxiety attacks when I see him but what?Whenever he comes in front of me, I feel blank. Nothing works, my mind feels trapped. The maid entered inside with food and I looked at her blankly. Damn, I am missing Della. I need someone to hear me out.I hate this loneliness. "Where is he?"I asked her as she was about to leave. "He went for a meeting!"She informed me while standing in front of me. "And Laurence?"I asked again. She looked at me confused and flabbergasted."I thought you asked about Mr. Laurence first... He went for a meeting."She mumbled confused."About whom
Marona's POV After that day, I never saw Mikhail again. I focused on my studies and Laurence but he never stopped haunting my dreams. His warning was already giving me nightmares. It felt like his eyes never left me, I was feeling him watching me all the time. It won't be wrong if I say that Mikhail had occupied my mind more than Laurence. I was terrified to see him again and was praying every day that I won't meet the murderer ever. It made me so relieved after knowing that he wasn't going to attend our wedding. Shaking my thoughts aside, I freshened up. Laurence came late that night, I was waiting for him because I was feeling alone. I always want him to hold me closer but he is never around. He is always busy at work. I miss him but I don't want to be clingy so I never complain to him. I know, once he solves his business problems then he will give me the time I deserve. I'll wait for the day when he won't let me go out of his sight like a good husband should do. He came back a
Marona's POVMy restlessness was growing with each passing second thinking if I should tell Laurence about it or not. If I tell him then it will be a big scene and if I don't tell him then the guilt will eat me from inside. What if he misunderstands me? What if he doesn't trust me that I genuinely didn't know that it was not him? How do I tell him that I couldn't recognise his touch?I followed him downstairs for breakfast where everyone was present except Mikhail, God! only his name can make me shiver. I felt hair on my body perking up when I thought about him."Laurence, I need to tell you something."I tried to stop him before we could sit down. I have to tell him because what if Mikhail does something else next time? I might fuel his behavior by hiding it. I know Laurence will be mad at me but I am also sure that he will understand me, I am hopeful. If not then I am ready to take whatever punishment he has for me.He looked at me while answering his phone which never stops ringing
Author's POVMarona looked at Rafael nervously when he said that. "I have a session in a few minutes"She mumbled, completely avoiding eye contact with Mikhail. "You will finish it in seconds, I am sure of it"Rafael knew that she is trying to escape. Lovina forced her to sit down and Marona could feel anxiety rolling in her body. She shifted uncomfortably in her place and looked down at the chessboard silently. She thought she would confront the man who touched her but it turned out to be Mikhail, against whom she can't even stand. She tried to forget how well she felt under his touch which shouldn't have happened. She is supposed to hate this man with everything she has. It was hard for her to believe that it was really him because the man she met in the warehouse and the man she encountered last night were in contrast. Last night was soft and passionate and the warehouse day was horrified and cruel. She can still feel his hands on her body and it was eating her in guilt. The ho
Author's POV "Laurence!"Marona called him and tried to stop him before he could leave. They were in the hallway, she grabbed his hand and pulled him in the corner. Laurence removed her hand from his and fixed his jacket."What's wrong?... Marona, I am getting late."Marona looked at him restlessly, she was dying in guilt."Laurence, listen to me first and then go... Last night when you left, someone came into our room. It was dark so I couldn't see his face, I thought it was you and I had intimate moments with that man."She confessed in one go."I swear, I wasn't aware... I thought it was you. He felt just like you, it was a familiar touch and that's why I didn't realise... You remember our first time, it felt just like that... I don't know what happened"Laurence clenched his jaw and she gulped but he took a deep breath while trying to stay calm. "It's okay! Mistakes happen."He patted her cheek with a smile. She frowned at him. "You are not mad?""Why would I be?"He chuckled
Author's POVLater that night, Laurence messaged Mikhail and called him in the club when he found out that he had saved Marona. When Mikhail entered the VIP area, he saw Laurence fucking some stripper on the couch. Mikhail sat by the bar counter and waited for him to finish his business while looking at him disgusted. The other stripper tried to approach him but he dismissed her. Since he has been with Marona, it has become difficult to imagine any other girl and he has been struggling with this feeling for years now. When Laurence was done, he pushed away the girl from him and sat beside him while fixing his clothes. Mikhail shifted a bit away from him, feeling disgusted. He hates Laurence more than he hates his father and he has earned his wrath too. Mikhail is not someone who acts in rage, he keeps his calm and then does things. Impulsive decisions are not in his nature. Laurence is his elder but he has never acted like one, he was always selfish, arrogant and greedy for the thr
Marona's POVHow can this happen to me? How? I stood in front of the mirror like a soul-less body as I stared into the hollowness of my life. The black color is mocking me, telling me that no matter how much I run behind love, it's not in my destiny to find it. Not in any form. I have just come back from the funeral of Laurence. His face wasn't even recognisable after whatever happened to him. I wish, he could have listened to me and just give up on his dark life. We would have lived in our happy home together, would have cooked dinner together, would have enjoyed the coffee on autumn day in our beautiful lawn. Was it a bad life? Tears escaped my eyes when I remembered the first night when he left his mark on me. How he caressed and worshipped me in the darkness. How his strong and possessive arms held me in his hold as I sweated his devotion. It was a fun night arranged by our seniors. We were playing games and I was really curious to explore the freedom I had given to myself.
Marona's POVThese dusty walls hold so many memories. No matter how many years pass or how much I try to forget, this house will always remind me of the laughter I shared with my mother. But with laughs this house holds painful memories also. It's been a couple of years, time is flying and the house is no longer strong to stand. So I thought why not turn it into something beautiful and useful. I shared my thoughts with Mikhail and he agreed, we decided to turn this house into a clinic. Mikhail has hired a team which will give free health consultation to whoever needs it. It's just a small attempt to rescue people from psychological problems. I hope it gets success. We are trying to clear up the place as it will get scrapped soon but I don't want my valuable things to get lost if there are any.Ivan had discarded all things, his shadows didn't just roam in the house but he destroyed my mother's memories also. How can he hold so much hate in his heart that he ruined her belongings ev
Author's POV Mikhail admired his wife's peaceful face, she was sleeping peacefully. "Will you stop staring at me like that?"She blushed without opening her eyes. "Like what?"He teased her nose tip. "I am just admiring my wife..."She opened her eyes and yawned lazily. "What's there to admire about me? I look disgusting when I wake up."He scoffed."You are the most beautiful when you wake up."She raised her eyebrows."These messy hair."She fixed her hair while sitting up."These puffy eyes, oily face and drool marks... From which angle do I look beautiful."He smiled. "Believe it or not, I love you more like this instead of makeup... You are a natural beauty."She blushed and lazily threw herself at him. He gathered her in his arms and kissed her cheek. "Are we ready for today?... It's been a year, and our babies are growing fast.""They are!"He played with her hair. "Everything is prepared and everyone is excited... Especially my sisters. They are making some rubbish rul
Author's POV Marona was enjoying Ivan's state. "Don't keep the suspense, Amore... I want to enjoy this too!"Mikhail complained. She chuckled."I am his doctor... I just gave him medicine"She batted her eyelashes innocently. He shook his head in disbelief. "Where did you get the drug? It's not possible to find it easily in the market and I would have found out because I look after movements of those."She smiled naughtily."Guess who gave me that."He closed his eyes and rubbed his face."Rafael!... Why is he dancing on your fingers?... I definitely missed something.""I am not forgetting anything"Ivan was looking around lost. Jeh entered with his men and Marona handed him babies. She needed to be free to punish her culprit. "Relax, Ivan!"She grabbed his attention. "Confused about whatever is happening to you?"He looked at her confused. "What did you do to me? Why is everything blurry? Who are you? What are you doing?"He fell on the ground. She gave him a fake pity loo
Author's POV Rotero stopped and turned towards her. His eyes were also filled with pain. Marona wiped her tears and threw herself in his embrace. "I know!"She sobbed when Rotero didn't hug her back."I know you have restrictions and rules but you have given me this new life. You might have abandoned me but your values and teachings are always with me. They always guide me... Thank you for this new life. I'll always be grateful... I know, today you can't accept me but I have a hope that one day you will do... I'll wait for the day."Rotero's eyes were also in tears. "I never abandoned you, Miguel... I was just protecting you. The tribe wasn't your home. You are right, I have restrictions. I live in a community which is strong in its morals and I can't break the rules. If your mother wouldn't have broken the rules then you wouldn't have to suffer so much..."He caressed her head and wiped her tears."You can't enter the tribe but I can come out and one day I might come to visit you
Author's POV Marona was sitting with Aurora and Mira. Andres was playing in Aurora's lap and Sabrina in Marona's lap. "Andres is so calm, unlike this naughty boy... Dimitri is a trouble, god!"Mira looked at her baby boy. "Yeah! he is always squealing and making noises..."Aurora chuckled. "I can't wait for mine to come out... The due is in a few days.""It's a boy, right? What are you naming him?"Mira asked excitedly. "I am still thinking about it."She grinned. "Ask your husband to help..."Marona chuckled."By the way, it was a good decision to do surrogacy... So thoughtful of Rafael to not risk your health.""Yeah but imagine if it's a boy and he becomes like Rafael."Mira suggested and everyone's eyes widened. "Stop saying that!"Aurora scolded her. "He will be like me!"Marona gave her a playful mocking look. "Are you sure? Then I think he better be like Rafael."Aurora sulked and scratched her head awkwardly."Yeah, I guess you are right!"Sabrina mumbled something an
Author's POV"Why are you scared now?... It doesn't matter if he knows or not. Now you have me. He can't do fuck."Mikhail assured her. She sighed but nodded. "You are right. I have you now. I don't need to fear anyone."She wrapped her arms around him and he pecked her lips. "Don't take stress now... Everything is fine.""So are you guys done grabbing your throats?"Jeh was sitting in the car with Sabrina and waved at them. "She is crying, please help me."Mikhail and Marona burst out laughing when he complained. She ran towards them and took her from him. Mikhail rolled his eyes and took the baby from Marona. "You ran like she stopped crying in your arms"He mocked. Marona gasped and slapped him arms. "That was mean!"He chuckled and looked at Sabrina. "Is Daddy mean? If yes then become like me."He teased her and she giggled in her cute baby voice. "You two are going to bully people together. I can sense that."She rolled her eyes and sat inside the car. Mikhail sat besi
Marona's POV Another escape wasn't easy but I had to, so Mikhail could follow me. I wanted to take him to where he met Devi, I thought his visit might spark a curiosity to find her but he didn't do anything. But I noticed that he does miss them, I saw him sitting by the same wall to wait for Devi. He must have thought that she would come. I know it was stupid but I felt jealous. Even if Devi, Mallika and Marona were the same, he belonged to Marona and not Devi for whom he was waiting there. At the same time, his Grandma told me about Miguel and his friendship and at that time I recalled that Mikhail was my friend. Our memories came back flashing on me and I regretted it so much that I forgot to write about him and our childhood.I was angry at Mikhail but as soon as I remembered about our childhood my heart softened. There was a reason why he was running away from all of them and I no longer had the heart to punish him for anything. How can I hurt my one and only friend who is no
Marona's POV That night I was drunk but remembered his touch, but it became more special when I saw his note. It had his name. Leo! I was blooming with happiness because taking admission in Delgado's campus was one of the reasons to get closer to the search of Leo. The guard outside told me that he had seen only Laurence around this area, only he came there. I hurriedly got ready and went out in search of him. I asked everyone and found out that there are three Delgado brothers on campus. Rafael, Mikhail and Laurence. I did more research and found out that there are more brothers but I had written down only these three names so Leo must be one of them. I did projects with Rafael and was sure that he can never be Leo because that guy was completely different. Then I noticed Laurence, he had a positive aura. Taking part in social activities and socializing. He was a nice guy and I felt those Leo's vibes in him because Leo once told me that he will never hurt anyone like he was hurt
Marona's POV Mulan is my current grandma. When Rotero told me that she is strong and unlike my mother, I thought she must be a powerful lady with money and wealth. When I knocked on her door, she wasn't home. Her house help told me that she is in the graveyard. Fortunately or unfortunately it was the same graveyard we are sitting at. She was here to Visit Marona's grave. And I was shocked when I saw that she is blind. I observed her from afar, waited for ours until she was done talking to her granddaughter's grave. She got up from her place and turned her head towards my direction. "Why are you watching me like that, girl?"She asked with a frown. I was shocked. She was blind then how could she know that I was watching her and that I am a girl?I slowly walked towards her and waved my hand in front of to check if she was really blind or not.She caught my hand in midair making my mouth go wide. "How did you know that I am here? You are blind!"I asked shocked. She smirked. "B
