When we arrive at the hall, there are people everywhere. It is a lot more people than there were at the other mate balls I had been to.
"I am going to find Shawn and let him know we are here. Then, I will meet you at the bar. Grab me a white wine, please." "Yes, ma'am," I tell her as she heads in the opposite direction of the bar. A few people are standing at the bar, so I wait my turn. "What can I get you?" "I'll have a Ladera Verde Sauvignon Blanc and a Long Island Ice tea, please." He gives me a strange look before turning to fix my drinks. I guess the look was because Juliana and I have completely different tastes when it comes to drinks. "Here you go." He says as he sets the drinks down in front of me. "Someone is thirsty tonight." I hear a man say behind me, but I already recognize the voice. I turn to find Travis standing behind me. I smile at him, "One is my friends." "Let me guess the tea is yours?" He says, but it sounds more like a question. "Yes, I like a little kick to my drink," I tell him with a laugh. "Nothing wrong with that. I will have a Jack and Coke, please." He tells the bartender. The bartender doesn't waste a minute getting his drink. "So, where is your friend at?" He asks me, taking a sip of his drink. "She had to meet her mate when we got here, so she is meeting me here." "Why is she here if she has a mate?" "She is the beta female. She is required to be here, and she can keep me company." "Did you think I would not be fun company?" He asks as he puts his hand to his chest to act hurt. "I am sure if you find your mate tonight, you will forget that I am here." "I don't think I have to worry about finding my mate here." He says, giving me a wink. " You do look beautiful tonight, though, if I might say." I feel the blush at his compliment. I nod to him and take a sip of my tea. "That looks so good. Come to me." Juliana says as she takes the drink from my hand. I laugh at her antics, and so does Travis. She must have just noticed him cause she almost loses the sip of wine when she looks at him. "Oh My God, did you find your mate?" She says, looking between the both of us. This time we both almost choke me on-air and Travis on his drink. "No, I met him at the diner yesterday," I tell her in a hurry. "Wow, don't sound so glad. I am a nice guy, you know." He says, giving me a sad face which only makes me laugh again. I don't know why but I feel like we are old friends or something. Being around him is what I would think being around my brother would have been like. "Too bad he isn't half bad looking," Juliana says as she looks him up and down again before taking another sip of her wine. "Keep talking like that, and I will have to tell Shawn." She huffs at my words. I know she is only joking around cause Shawn is the love of her life. "Now, girls, I am not trying to get beat up by your beta cause I am hot," Travis says, and we all three laugh until we can't breathe. "Come on, let's dance before we are too tired from standing to," Juliana says, grabbing my hand and pulling me. I manage to set my drink down before she has me on the dance floor. It is a pop song, so I swing to the music trying to forget everything. I lift my hands and let my body follow the beat. I feel someone's hands go around my waist, and I snap back to the present. I look, and some older man I have never seen before has his hands on my hips. I slid away from his hands. I don't want him touching me. "I am sorry if I startled you. I figured someone as beautiful as you should not be dancing alone." "I am not dancing alone. I am dancing with my friend." I tell him and look around, but Juliana is now dancing with Shawn. "Don't be like that. It is only a dance." He says, reaching for my arm again. But this time, before he can grab me, I feel someone else behind me. "Sorry, but she is occupied right now." It's Travis. I don't even have to turn around. The guy nods his head and turns away from us, leaving the dance floor. "Thank you," I tell him, grateful that he helped me. I don't like causing a scene, but I was not going to dance with him. "Your most welcome now let me have this dance before someone else comes along to steal you away." He says, taking my hand. It is then that I realize a slow song is playing. I don't argue with him; instead, I take his hand as he turns me to dance. He places one hand on my waist, and the other holds my hand. I set my free hand on his shoulder as we both begin to dance. "You dance pretty well for a big guy," I tell him, smiling. "Not too bad yourself for a little woman." We both laugh as we continue to move around the dance floor. "So, where are you from?" "I am from Montana. Our pack is around Spotted Bear Mountain. Ever heard of it?" "No, I haven't, but I bet it is beautiful there." "Yes, it is. What about you? Have you been here your whole life?" "No, I was born in Wyoming. I came here when I was young." It just slipped out. I have never even told Juliana where I was born. Yet, here I am telling a complete stranger. "How did you end up in Idaho?" "It's kind of a long story." Then, before I can say anymore, I hear a growl from across the room. I tense and try to turn and look, but Travis takes and spins me pulling me back to him, and dips me. I see the most handsome man I have ever seen when he does. He is tall and muscular. I can tell even with a suit on. He has a pissed-off look on his face and is staring at me. I break eye contact and look back at Travis just as he winks at the man. This time the growl is deeper. It even sounds pissed off. I try to stand back up, and Travis lets me. "Who is that?" I ask when I am standing again, my back to the pissed-off man. "That would be the start of a good night," Travis says, laughing as his eyes are locked behind me. What does he mean by that, and why is that man so pissed off. I can't help turning to get another look at the man. I see him walking toward us like he is on a mission when I do.Alexander, I had gone on a run with the other Alpha's this morning, and it was later than I usually run. Everyone told me that I should go and spend time with the others, but I prefer to be alone when I run. But, my brother being the pain he, can be pushed, so I went. We had run for about forty-five minutes when I could smell water, so I assumed we were coming up on a lake or a stream. When we finally broke from the trees, I saw a beautiful lake. I went to get a drink, but everyone had the same thought as me, so I bolted to the other side, so we were not on top of each other. When I approached the other side, a scent hit me from nowhere. It smelled of vanilla and honey. I looked around but saw no one."What are you doing over there?" My brother Travis asks through our mindlink."I thought I smelled something.""Is it dangerous?" He asked as he started to come around the lake."No, I don
I am watching him, but when he gets closer, his scent grabs me. I mean that too. I felt like something was pulling me to him. My feet were moving, and I met him."Mine," We both growled at the same time. If it was not such an intense moment, I might laugh. But instead, I reached up, placing my hands on his chest as he went to my waist. He pulled me tight against his body and put his head in my neck. I could feel him taking deep breaths, breathing me in. I took this moment to take in his scent, too. He smelled of pine and heather. I take a deep breath to bask in his scent. It is manly but gentle at the same time. It feels like everyone in the room has disappeared but us two. I feel him lift his head, and I do the same, but a growl leaves him as he looks to Travis. What does he think my relationship with Travis is? I look to see that Travis is still looking at him and smiling like he finds his behavior funny."What is your name?" I say, trying t
Alexader Why would our mate already want to talk in private with someone else? Is she hiding something from us? "Calm down. They are women and best friends. Of course, they are going to talk in private about you." Travis says, laughing at my situation. "How do you know Ivy anyway, and how long have you known her?" I ask cause I am genuinely interested. "I met her in the diner right after we got to town. She is a waitress there. She was almost like someone I had known my whole life, bu
I know I need to speak and tell him, but I am unsure where to start. I don't even realize how much time has passed as I try to think of where to start. That is until he speaks up."If you don't mind me asking, what did you want to talk about exactly. You know you can tell me anything. We will get through it together. That is what mates do." I know he is right, but there are still things that I can't tell him."I was not born in this pack." I figure that is the best way to start."What pack were you born in?" He asks, but I need to keep on track."If you don't mind, I am going to tell you, but I have never told anyone but Juliana my story before, so it is hard for me.""Ok, I understand. I will only walk and listen." He tells me, so I continue."So I was born in another pack, but my pack and family were attacked when I was young. I was only eight. The smell of smoke and howls awoke me. When I got to
Alexander,I head for the packhouse as fast as I can go. I know I told her an hour, but if we can leave sooner, that would be better. I wish my mate had not gone through something so traumatic as a child, but I am sure that what she has experienced has played a part in who she is today. I will do my best to help her find out who she is and where she came from, although I might already have a suspicion. I think it is best I wait and see what we can find out. I make it to the packhouse and up to my room. I mindlink Travis to come to my room now. He must not have been far cause he is tapping on the door. I open it and let him inside. I look down the hall but see no one else, so I shut the door."We need to get our stuff and get ready to leave. I told Ivy that I would be back to get her in an hour, but I would like to be faster than that.""Well, I already have my stuff ready, but I take it you will explain it more to me on the way."&
I watch as Alex questions the rogue that attacked me, and then I watch as he snaps his neck. He shows no hesitation in his decision. That is until he looks at me. I see the look of shame, but I don't want him to regret it. They all three were willing to kill without even questioning why. I don't wait for him to second guess his choice more. I walk up and wrap my hands around his neck, thankful that he is ok. He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me to him."I think we need to get going. Where is your stuff?" He asks as I pull away.""It is over by the back of the building. I only got one bag ready and changed my clothes before we left the house.""Is there anything else you need?""No, I got everything important. Juliana can look through the other stuff if she wants." I turn to look at her, but she looks to Shawn."I don't know how long we are going to be able to stick around here. If Chris knows th
Alexander I was not expecting that question, and I am not sure I want to answer it. But I also know that trust is easy to break but hard to regain once broken."I never had a girlfriend, but I have had partners." I really hope she knows what I mean when I say it that way, and I don't have to elaborate."I see," She doesn't say anything else. She keeps staring out the window. I try to think of a question quickly to change the subject."What is your favorite color?" I know it is probably a stupid question, but it was the first one that popped up in my head."Green.""I like green, but black and pink are so cute together," Travis says, catching us both off guard, but we all laugh. My phone started to ring, and it connected to the truck, so I answered."Hello?" I say unsure who is calling."You want to explain why you, your brother, and my pack member have left." Its Chris and I
Alex goes into the bathroom, and I am embarrassed for thinking he meant for us to shower together. He wouldn't offer something like that already. I mean, he even asked for permission to hug me. I set my bag inside the closet on the empty side. The closet is huge. I could fit a bed in it. The bedroom is enormous too. I can only imagine how big the bathroom is. I really do need a shower, but I didn't want to take over his bathroom when he is used to not sharing with anyone. He also drove the whole trip, so I am sure that he is tired and ready to get some sleep. I walked over to the nightstand and looked for the remote he talked about. I pick it up then I notice I don't see a television anywhere in the room. I look around again, wondering if I missed it. Still, I see nothing. I look for the on switch on the remote and push it. Maybe if it cuts on, I will know where it is.A wall starts to part, and my mouth drops open. The entire wall opens, and a colossal television i
