Bertha laughed. Her smile was as bright as the sun, but the kidnapper could feel a vaguely threatening breath on her body. He continued to bow his head and ask her for forgiveness. He even slapped himself in the face.

Venn knew she was angry, so he didn't step forward to stop her.
