Third Person’s POV

Dione rode over to the church where they held Maya captive and made his way inside.

“Finally, the slug arrives,” Fiona said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

“There was a lot of traffic, boos,” he replied.

“That’s not my problem. Move over here,” she snapped, and he moved closer as he noticed a dark figure seated on a chair in a corner, while Maya still laid there, her clothes slightly torn. He noticed she looked more restless and helpless than she had been yesterday.

“Boss, something’s wrong with her. Has she had any food yet?” Dione asked, but he realized he should have just kept his mouth shut when Fiona gave him a harsh glare.

“If you’re so worried about her, Dione, why don’t you get her food? And while you’re at it, you can bring her family members as well so she feels better,” Fiona retorted. The shadow he had seen in the corner came into the light. It was Jake.

“Hi, boss Jake. I didn’t notice you were here. I thought you were supposed to be back in Hong Kong?

Jordan’s POVI and John had decided to do some digging ourselves, into Maya’s disappearance. After explaining the situation to him and Jerome, they offered to help immediately.Rob had left for London already and it was a good thing. He didn’t need to get involved in all these dramas. The next day, after Jess had left my office, John Jerome I set out to find the taxi driver Maya had used and luckily enough Jerome knew a lot of people so we found him in no time.He had explained to us how determined Maya was when he dropped her at the abandoned car location and described it vividly to us. Although I wasn’t sure if we were going to find anything there, it was a lead and I had to inform Jess.I had gone over to her house but something about the people around made me uneasy so I suggested we talk in my car and she followed me without hesitating. As we got there, she was greeted by John and Jerome who sat at the front seats and she nodded smiling acknowledging their help in the search.“So

Jess’s POV I stood frozen, watching as my best friend was lowered six feet into the cold, unyielding ground. My emotions got the better of me, and I couldn’t hold it back anymore. The weight of my grief pressed against my chest, making it hard to breathe. As I tossed a single white rose onto her coffin, my vision blurred with tears. Her death shattered me; it left a hole in my heart that could never be mended, no matter how hard I tried. The day we had found her body at the dumpster, my chest tightened as I stared at her lifeless body. I had rushed over to her, crouching down as I shook her cold shoulders with desperation, hoping maybe she was just playing a sick joke on me. “Maya, girl. Please wake up. I know you’re awake, and I don’t really have time for a joke like this.” I screamed, but no, her body remained still, and then realization hit me hard. I had lost my friend to the hands of death. I sat there at the dumpster, trailing her gunshot wounds with my fingers, and the print

Jess’s POVWhat in the fucking hell is going on here? Could it be that?“No, Jess, calm down. You can’t break down here. Act normal so he doesn’t suspect a thing, alright?” I exhaled deeply as I took out my phone and got a picture of the message on his.Immediately I was done, I put his phone back exactly where it was and played it cool. The bathroom door opened up, and he came out with a grin as he took a seat by me.“I should never have trusted this lying motherfucker. Maya warned me, and I can’t believe I got into a fight with my best friend just because of you.” My mind went wild as I offered him a smile while he kept chatting about things I couldn’t even hear anymore.I’ve got to get out of here. But where would I go to? If I raise alarms, Fiona will see from the cameras, and they’ll go into hiding. If she put them in my room, there may be more around the entire house.“Jordan!” His name flashed through my brain in seconds. He was definitely who I should go to now. I’ll just call

Jordan’s POVAs I drove over to Jess’s place, my brain kept fuming with anger and rage. The way she walked into my place with tears in her eyes and how shaken she looked, I knew something was wrong. After she had explained everything, I tried to remain calm. At least it was the best thing I could do for her at the moment. I couldn’t show her how angry I was; it would have made her panic even more, so I kept my cool.I always knew something was off with that Dione guy. Besides the fact that I was jealous he got to spend time with the woman I loved so much, I had the same bad feeling about him like Maya had. Now I felt guilty—so guilty for not digging more when Maya suddenly didn’t come to my office like she said she would that day.I couldn’t sugarcoat it anymore; my mind was made up, and I knew for a fact they did something to Maya. They killed her, and I was going to prove that and take their sorry asses to hell. Fiona was worse than an animal, and I can’t believe I couldn’t see all

Jordan’s POV“Jess, remember to act very normal. Keep this earbud in your ear at all times, and make sure the camera pin stays on your dress so we can see his movements and listen in on everything,” I explained to Jess. She nodded, her eyes flickering with nervousness, as she stepped out of the car and headed into her penthouse. I stood watch until I was sure she got into the house safely, then zoomed off to prepare for the next phase of my plan with John and Jerome. “Boss, we’ve activated the camera and the earbuds already,” John announced as I stepped into the house. He handed me his phone, and I was relieved to see Jess’s house, meaning she still had the pin on her dress. “Okay, this is good. Now we wait for the fool to get into his own trap,” I said, and they both smiled. We listened in as Jess called Dione up. “Hello, Dione. I know you must be busy, but I really need to let loose tonight after everything I’ve been through. I just want a dinner date,” she said, her voice hoars

Jess’s POVJordan helped me into his car as John drove slowly behind the police. I had tried so hard not to break down, but my efforts were not enough. Jordan had been so nice to me despite how badly I treated him ever since I came back.“Are you okay now, Jess?” Jordan looked at me with worried eyes as he gently rubbed my back while I sobbed.“I’m okay, Jordan, I just need them to admit to what they did to my best friend,” I said, my voice hoarse, and he nodded.Moments later, we arrived at the station as Fiona and Dione were taken into separate interrogation rooms. “Officer Benette, I’d like to speak to Dione first,” I said as he took me into a dimly lit room. The fluorescent light cast a glow on his shadow. I made my way inside, my heels clicking against the pavement as Jordan followed, not wanting to let me out of his sight even for a second.Dione, who had his head bowed, now lifted it up slowly as I took a seat opposite him. “What do you want, Jess?” he asked in a calm tone. Was

Jess’s POVIt had been one week since the arrest of Dione and Fiona. They stayed in police custody as they awaited a date for the court hearing, while I tried to rebrand my life all over again, but it was a struggle, especially with Maya not by my side.Dad had decided to stay with me till the court hearing because of how scared he got after seeing the threat I received on my phone. When I saw that message, I knew immediately it could come from one person only, “Jake Baxter and his silly brother Jim.”They had always been a thorn in my flesh, even before Fiona’s existence, and only they could threaten me that way, especially using the name Isabella. But I wasn’t scared of them anymore. I prepared myself. They had put me through so much in the past that nothing they did right now could make me fear them, even for a second.I had the matter reported at the station, and they launched a manhunt for them, and it made their case spiral because I was told they had already been on the wanted

Jess’s POV“Why did she call Jake her brother?” Jordan asked as we watched the video. She did call Jake her brother, and it didn’t make any sense to me because I know for a fact Jake had just Jim and Brandon, who died, as siblings.Fiona’s voice made my stomach churn as I watched the next part of the video, where she and Dione planned on making me sign off my money to them before they killed me. Tears welled up in my eyes, but Jordan held my hands as we continued. The next thing we heard made everything stand still as Jordan handed me the phone and stood to his feet. “She killed my mum and blamed it on an overdose? And she planned to do the same to you too?”“Fiona fucking killed my mum!” He repeated it over and over as he ran his hands through his hair and walked away.“Jordan,” I tried calling, but he ignored me and made his way upstairs.“That woman is a witch,” John spat as he turned off the video. “I’ll hand this over to Officer Baxter.”I felt so bad for Jordan. At least I suspe

Jess’s POVOnly the unlucky get attacked on the night of their honeymoon, and it turned out I was one of those unlucky ones.I struggled to pry my eyes open, and it felt like they’d been closed for eternity. My body felt paralyzed, and my head throbbed a lot. Once I finally got my eyes to open, I turned my neck slowly to look around me, but there was no one. This place sure wasn’t my home. The house looked like it had been made strictly out of bamboo. “Where am I?” I murmured, trying to wake up from the painful bed I had been laying on, but I noticed footsteps approaching, and I pretended to be asleep. What if they were bad people and wanted to hurt me? I had to be careful. “Maria!” I heard a female voice yell, and some more footsteps approached.“Yes, Mum?”I struggled to peep and found a younger lady; she looked about 18 years old.“I was finally able to get us some newspapers. Now look at this woman in the picture; doesn’t she look like this lady we saved?” The woman asked, and th

Jordan’s POVThe drive back home was long and silent. I had shut my mind away from any sound and let my thoughts swirl around. It was pretty late, and I was certain Andrea should have been sleeping, so I didn’t bother to check. I went straight ahead to find John. I made it inside, and Miss Anna was in the kitchen as usual. I wondered if this woman ever got to take time off for herself and just stop standing there always. She noticed my presence and turned to me immediately with a smile. “Good evening, Mr. Denver,” she bowed and greeted, but I shrugged, and her smile faded fast. “Where are Jerome and John?” I asked in a calm but stern tone. “They’re by the pool, sir, having a drink,” she replied, her voice shaky. I turned on my heel without so much as a thank you and made my way to the pool area. John and Jerome seemed to be having a great discussion. I could tell from how loud their laughter was as I approached them. Why does everyone find it so fucking easy to move on from the d

Jordan’s POV“Jess!”“Jess!”“Bye, Jordan, please take care of yourself and Andrea, that’s my only wish,” Jess sobbed, standing before me in the white, silky nightgown she wore on the night of the explosion, but it was messed up with blood stains.“Don’t tell me goodbye, Jess. Andrea’s waiting for you, and I am too. Please stay, my love,” I wailed, but she began to disappear into the darkness.“I love you, Jordan. I’ll always love you,” she yelled and disappeared completely. I had tried to grab her hand, but she was gone. The woman I loved so much was gone.“No, Jess, I love you. Please don’t leave me,” I cried, tossing and turning, sweat dripping down my face faster than a water slide. I dug my fingers into the sheets and held on tight, as if doing that would make her appear again.I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Boss…” the voice came, but my eyes refused to cooperate. “Boss, it’s me, John,” the voice came again, this time shaking me with more force.“Jess!” I kept yelling as the tear

Jess’s POVThe night breeze blew Jess’s hair in the right direction as I wrapped my hands around her waist from behind, my head buried in her neck. We had chosen to spend our honeymoon enjoying the sweetness of nature, and I must say it was the best decision.“This is incredible,” she whispered, turning her face slightly behind to meet mine.I grinned, pulling her tighter. “Only the best for my wife,” I said, my voice laced with affection. I kissed her cheeks softly. “It’s only the beginning of a good life, Mrs. Denver.”The evening went on smoothly as we dined under the stars on the upper deck. The candlelights flickered between us, and the sound of the stream brought out sweet melodies. After dinner, we had an intense lovemaking session until Jess could no longer feel her body move. Her tiredness made me chuckle as I covered her up in some sheets and made my way outside to enjoy the rest of the night. But as I stepped out of the door leading to the upper deck, I felt a cold metal po

Jordan turned around to face them as Jerome pretended to make crying noises. “I can’t believe he’s all grown up,” he teased, and they burst into laughter.Jordan stretched out his hands as they helped him with his cufflinks. “John, what did Officer Benette say about the messages I’ve been receiving?” he asked as a frown settled on his face.“He’s suspecting it to be from Jake and his twin. He said it could be they’re trying to scare you, but they have everything under control,” Jerome assured him, but it didn’t ease Jordan’s mind.Since their trip to Vegas a month ago, he had received five unsettling text messages from the same number—both freaky messages and death threats—and he had successfully hidden all

Jess’s POVIt had been 1 year since the announcement of Fiona’s death. The day Jordan had broken the news, I felt a mixture of anger, sadness, and satisfaction all at once.Angry because she didn’t suffer for all her crimes, sad because I had just found out she was my sister, and satisfaction because I could finally live peacefully without having to look over my shoulders.“Fiona’s dead,” Jordan had said, and everywhere went dead silent as I almost choked on the glass of water given to me by Chu.“How’s that possible?” Dad asked as Jordan’s hold on his cellphone tightened.“She tried to escape. Her brothers managed to bust her out from jail, but during a police chase, the car she had been riding in exploded while her brothers sped off in their own car, leaving her behind. The body was badly burnt up, and the clothes she had been wearing turned to ash,” Jordan explained as he turned his gaze away from me.It was understandable he had to feel a bit hurt because Fiona was the only thing

Yet, all I could think of is how she left me one day, saying she was going to get food, and she never returned.Dad finally came back inside, with Will following behind him as we braced ourselves for the confession of Mrs. Mei. I had tried so hard not to cry, but hearing your mother being locked up for years until her last breath is the hardest thing to deal with, especially after losing your best friend not so long ago to monsters like Fiona.“I’m sorry, Isabella, please forgive me. The first day I discovered what my job would be, I tried going to the police twice, but each time I stepped foot inside that cell, something bad happened. They were always watching me. They even killed Chu’s mum because I had tried to escape. I lost all hope and did what they asked me to.” Mrs. Mei kept explaining, and I could see the hurt the Baxters must have caus
