Ella/Jess’s POV

“Girl, it’s 9pm. When are you coming back home? Dad is worried already and Andrea has been crying non stop she misses her mummy.” Maya’s text came in. I glanced at the screen for a while as a smile played on my lips at the thought of my little family always checking up on me. The feeling was amazing.

“Well Jess, you can’t finish signing these documents tonight. Get a break.” A voice came at the entrance of my office door. I lifted my head up to meet my dad’s gaze as he smiled down at me. “Come on Dad, just fifty more and I’ll be done.” I said.

“Okay, that’s it. I might actually have some guards come lift you up from here and take you home.” He teased as he moved closer to my desk. “Dear, you’re going to get sick and you know that hurts my heart. You’re the CEO of this company, all that can wait. They will all wait for you without complaint. Even if you decide to take a break for a month or two, no one dares talk down on you.” He said as he placed a kiss on m

Jess’s POV I had gotten back to my bedroom to get Maya for the meeting with my dad. “Maya, come on, dad’s waiting for us.” I tried pulling her sleepy body from my bed. “Girl, you literally have a large room like this. I don’t know what you’re doing here.” I jumped on her body and began tickling her. “Stop Jess. Ok fine, stop. I’m awake. We can go now.” We got out of the room hand in hand and strolled down the long stairs. “Girl, can you believe it? After staying hidden for months, finally the world gets to know the daughter of the richest man in London. If Fiona and the rest should see you now, I don’t think they’d recognize you one bit. Considering the fact you’ve changed your name and many other things about you. I’m just so happy for you girl,” Maya said, placing a kiss on my cheek as we arrived where dad was seated. Maya wasn’t wrong. I had changed a lot. Literally, everything about me had changed. From my name, to my way of speaking and walking, right up to my fashion

Jess’s POV The grand ballroom was alive with multiple colors, lights, and music. It felt like another world. A world which radiated power and luxury in every detail. The chandeliers sparkled brightly above me and casting a glow on the polish marble floors. I stood from the stairs, and from there I could see the fancy mask everyone had on. Some glittered with an expensive jewelry and others with feathers. The billionaires, politicians and CEOs all mingling with a drink in one hand and deep secrets in the other hand. “Hi dear, it’s ok to be nervous.” My dad said from behind me as he gripped my shoulder tight. “They’re all here to see you.” He continued with a smile. “No dad, they’re here for their own ambitions. Nevertheless, we will go with what you said.” I whispered, making him let out a little laugh. My gown was a masterpiece. A silky black satin liquid-like flow, hugging my body in all the right places. It had a bold open back with crisscrossed straps, diamonds attached arou

Jordan’s POV I walked through the crowd, my head held up high as I collected the champagne Rob handed to me. Attending a party wasn’t what I planned on doing after series of meetings, but here I was anyways. I arrived in London the previous day and attended all the business meetings I had. Rob had called me up since he knew I was in London and invited me to the birthday party of Mr Hart’s daughter. Mr Hart had always been someone I looked forward to working with in the near future. The old man was filthy rich and had an aura I desired. Rob knew how much I adored him and so brought me along for the party. “Bro, I can’t believe we missed the introduction of his daughter. I heard rumors she’s really hot. Maybe I just might ask her to be my girlfriend.” Rob teased. “Come on Rob, who’s Angel to you?” I asked, clearly pointing out the fact he already had a girlfriend. “Angel’s someone I love. I still have rights to admire this Jessica chick, you know. We can just get laid one or t

Jess’s POV The party was over, and I had put Andrea in her crib after feeding her. I hopped in the bathtub and let my thoughts take me away. I let my thoughts take me to the man I love. The man I shared the best times of my life with. The man who gave me my beautiful daughter. Earlier, I had spotted him in the crowd after following Maya’s gaze. My eyes widened and my heart pumped faster than it had done in a very long while. The question “what was he doing here?” couldn’t seem to let me think straight. Maya said to behave cool and that even if he saw me, she can bet he’d never recognize me. Some men walked up to us, distracting me. Old men, as usual, talking about business, marriage and offering to take me out on dates. I can swear that if they didn’t fear my dad, I’m sure they would have forced their way to me from how rough one of them acted and spoke. I could tell because he behaved like he was related to that devilish Baxter family. I put on my mask, not wanting him to re

Jordan’s POV “We commend your servant to you, O Lord. Receive her into your arms of mercy and grant her eternal rest.” The priest said the last prayers as the surrounding sobs grew louder. I watched my mum being wheeled 6feet underground. The strongest woman I knew but yet she fell in the hands of death. I clenched my teeth and fought the tears that struggled to roll down my eyes as I threw a rose on her coffin, saying my last goodbyes. Fiona cried so much I felt sorry for her because she was so close to my mum. One could think Fiona was her daughter and I could feel the pain she felt. Auntie Maggie as well lost her best friend, and I lost my mother, the woman who raised me with so much pride, giving me everything I could ever ask of, but now death took her away and I wasn’t there to protect her. The cemetery grew empty as Attorney Dimitri walked up to me with sadness in his eyes. “I’m so sorry for the loss of your mum, child. She was an exceptional woman and a warrior indeed.”

Jordan’s POV “What is your bracelet doing under mum’s bed Fiona?” I asked for the second time while she stared at me like I was crazy. “Oh, I’ve been looking for this baby. I must have forgotten it here the last time we came to see Auntie.” She said sounding more defensive than usually. “I bought you this bracelet as a wedding gift, Fiona. If you lost it here, then that will be months back. Besides before I left for my trip, I think I remembered seeing you wearing this.” I argued as I lifted it up more to get a better look at it and to make sure I wasn’t mistaken. “Did you visit mum Fiona?” Her body tensed up like it was a crime to visit her in law. But if she did visit mum, then she’s got to know what had been bothering mum for her to take such a decision. “Fiona,” I called out her name in a softer tone now and began walking towards her. “Please, if you know anything or if mum had told you anything about what was bothering her, can you please tell me?” She stared at me

  • After One Night    Chapter 55

Third Person’s POV It had been two days since Fiona and Jordan got back to their place at Evergreen. Jordan had resumed his work and Fiona had not done so much. She had woken up from bed to find out Jordan left as usual without offering a word to her. The feeling something was off about him kept taunting her mind, but she shrugged the feeling away and carried on with her plans for the day. Fiona got a call earlier from Jake saying their dad needed to see her, so she got into her car and drove to Jake’s condo. In no time, she got there and let herself inside. “Oh, baby sis, you made it. I thought we needed to kidnap your husband so you can leave the house,” Jim welcomed her sarcastically, like he always does. “You’re crazy Jim. Where’s Dad?” she asked, paying no heed to his statements. “Right this way, ma’am.” He said as they made their way to the dining table. “Ahh, right on time for a meal, dear.” Dave said as he saw his daughter he hadn’t seen in almost two years approach

Third Person’s POV “Jake, what happened? I thought everything was fine?” Dave asked as he leaned backwards to make himself more comfortable awaiting the disastrous news Jake had. Jake cleared his throat while pacing around the dinner table and fidgeting with his phone. “Bro, if you don’t talk to us soon, we’ll have a headache from your pacing. Jesus Christ, please say something already. How bad is the issue, and I thought that family will be left alone? Why do I need to kill them? It’s not like I don’t love the idea. I’m just curious,” Jim said. Fiona stood up from her seat and walked over to her dad, placing a kiss on his cheek. “Dad, I have an angry husband who just lost his mother because of me. I’d not like him to start searching for me. Plus, his mood has been off lately since we got back and no, I don’t think it’s about his mother’s dead. Something else. So, dear brother Jake, when you finally have the information you want to give us, call me.” “Fiona, sit down. Your du

Jess’s POV“Champagne-colored or black?” I raised the two beautiful gowns I had picked out from my closet in front of Maya.We had been going through my wardrobe the whole night and had just about 4 hours of sleep after finding nothing, but here we were again, searching another part of my closet we didn’t touch. It was 4 p.m., and Maya couldn’t decide.I had gone over to my shop earlier and passed out some instructions before leaving. My assistant was an angel; she always made my life easier on days like this.“That’s it, Jess, the champagne-colored dress is absolutely gorgeous. You don’t even need to try it on; I can already tell how well it’ll fit you.” She did a little dance, stomping her hands in a cheer and grinned widely. “Now, go get a bath so we can butter you up.”She pushed me lightly into the bathroom and shut the door. “Wow, I’m really doing this, aren’t I?” I sighed as I let the towel around my chest fall and got into the rosy bathtub water.I enveloped myself in scented

Jess’s POV“The wedding was horrible!” Dione said, and we burst out into laughter.Do you ever just bump into someone and have conversations like you’ve known each other for years? Well, that was Dione and I right now. We had been sitting and chatting so much that I completely lost track of time.“You said it was your sister’s wedding, right? So how come it was horrible?” I asked, staring him straight in the eye. Those dark brown eyes and lashes longer than Fiona’s real and fake lashes. He was breathtaking. This type of guy could lock me up in jail, and I wouldn’t dare ask why. His chiseled jawlines clenched tight even when he smiled; his dimples dug deeper than any I’ve seen. Talk more of perfect dentition and fresh mint breath. His choice of words carried aura and respect.“She got married to a dumb guy I had warned her not to marry. It’s a long story, but trust me, this guy’s not worth it.” He turned to me and smiled, showing me his perfect teeth. If he says the guy wasn’t worth hi

Jess’s POV We left the hospital with the hope that Fiona wouldn’t get to see John. This had been the second longest and most confusing day of my life, and all I wanted was to go home and hug Andrea tightly. The first was when I found out about my dad; the confusion I felt then was way more than what I feel now. “Where to, Miss Hart?” Frank inquired as he stared at me from the driver’s mirror. “Let’s go home,” I replied, and he nodded, “right away, ma’am.” Maya had been focused on her phone all the way to the house. “Girl, who are you seriously texting?” I snapped my fingers in her face, trying to get her attention. She looked up at me, and her face lit up with excitement. “Okay, I know this might be a bad time for this, but I’ve found you the perfect boyfriend.” What a random statement at a time like this. Classic Maya. “Do you need a check-up? What does a new boyfriend have to do with me at this point?” I shot her a glance. “Come on, girl, don’t look at me that way. Remember ou

Jess’s POV “Let’s go, Rob, we can’t wait for an ambulance when we have a car!” John yelled as they struggled to lift Jordan up. In one go, they lifted him and rushed out of the door. I had been standing on the same spot, unable to speak, react, or do anything. I couldn’t understand what was happening. “Girl, are you okay?” Maya patted my shoulder. We were the only ones left in the room, but I couldn’t find my speech. “I think we should follow them, just to make sure he’s fine,” Maya suggested, and I nodded. We rushed out of the office and got to the back entrance, where the guards were helping put Jordan in the backseat of his car. “Frank, get the car ready. We’re following them,” Maya yelled as he nodded and left. I watched John get into the driver’s seat and speed off as Frank brought my car. “Here, Miss Hart,” he said as he opened the doors for Maya and me. He quickly got in as well and followed directly behind Jordan’s car. My nails dug deep into my thighs as I fel

  • After One Night    Chapter 70

Jess’s POVAfter the Fiona incident earlier, I thought I had seen it all, only for me to set eyes on the man I didn’t want to see, not even in a million years to come. He stood there, his eyes piercing through my body, stuttering, and unable to form a proper sentence. When one of my bodyguards had walked in, saying there was a man named John looking for me at the back entrance, I was taken aback. There was only one John I knew, and he was dead, so was this a prank?I quickly excused myself from the customers I had been attending to and pulled Maya away as well. “Which John?” she asked as I explained it to her. “Jess, do you need some rest? You’ve been working all day; I fear it’s beginning to affect your memory,” she teased as always.“Well, there’s only one way to find out if it’s really him or not,” I said, and she rolled her eyes. “John’s dead, Ella. Tell the guard to tell the imposter outside that he should get lost, as simple as that.”“Frank, can you describe the guy?” I turned

  • After One Night    Chapter 69

Jordan’s POV Nothing made sense to me at this point. I couldn’t still believe the woman I was told that I had loved before losing my memory was the same woman I was fantasizing over, some months back. “Bro, we can go now. The car’s ready.” Rob announced as we made our way out of my office and in to my car at the parking lot. My brain spun with thousands of questions and doubts. What if she doesn’t want anything to do with me? Or what if she doesn’t let me see my kid? I know I didn’t speak nicely to her before, but I hope she understands that I wasn’t myself. Getting shot in the head is not like tossing candy to kids. It’s terrifying. Jerome drove while John sat in the passenger’s seat and Rob sat next to me at the back. We had been moving for about 15 minutes now and I couldn’t help but feel more nervous than usual. “John,” I called, and he looked at me over his shoulder. “Do you think she’ll want to see me?” “No boss, she definitely wouldn’t want to

  • After One Night    Chapter 68

Third Person’s POVFiona had one of the worst days of her life. She’s to be divorced, meets her arch-enemy, and now is being threatened by a man she thought would do her bidding for as long as he lived. She had driven to her brother’s place, and the entire time, she couldn’t help but scream at the top of her voice. “If fucking Daniel thinks he can threaten me, then he’s lost his mind. With the brothers I have, he’ll disappear faster than he cums.”Once parked in front of Jake’s condo, she got out, making her way towards the door as her heels clicked against the pavement.“About time. Jake, the witch is here, and she looks like an overly ripe tomato,” Jim chuckled as he set his eyes on Fiona, who had made her way in already.“I honestly don’t have time for your jokes today, Jim. There’s a lot we have to deal with, and now!” she said as she threw herself on a sofa in the living room.Jim chuckled. “We?”Fiona raised a brow and shot him a dangerous glance. “Yes, we.”“Hold up, I thought

She put the phone on loud speaker as the person she was calling answered. “Yes Fiona, have you shopped to your satisfaction?” It was Jake. “Ella is back Jake, that bitch is back and she’s rich suddenly. She fucking owns Glossy Pearls.” Fiona yelled. “You’re kidding, right?” Jake chuckled. “Do I sound like I’m in the mood to play around? You guys are never serious.” She spat. “Calm down Fiona, you’ve just been yelling the entire day. Give it a break. Why don’t you come to my place, and we’ll talk about what’s bothering you. Okay?” Jake said. “It turns out I’m an unlucky female. All the men in my life are dickheads. You know what, I’ll go blow off some steam first. See you later.” She brought the phone closer to her mouth and yelled. “Fiona, I…” Jake tried to say, but she ended the call immediately

Jordan’s POV It was past noon, and we were waiting for the results of Ella’s whereabouts. The tracker Mr Jones glanced up from his laptop. He gave me a reassuring smile and continued his work, but a smile wasn’t what I needed. I needed answers. “Boss, do you really believe ma’am Fiona will sign those documents and leave the house today?” Jerome asked. At first I would have condoned Fiona’s attitude and disrespect, but not this time. “If she doesn’t leave on her own, then I’ll make her leave forcefully.” “Mr Denver, I’ve found it!” the tech guy yelled. “Unfortunately, it’s in London.” “London?” I exclaimed “Yes Sir.” He nodded. “That can’t be right. Ella had a pending case. If she’s in London, does that mean someone dismissed the charges?” Jerome asked as he pinched his creased brows. “Probably because there was no substantial evidence against her. I guess she decided to leave the country to stay away from me.” I said through clenched teeth. “No Jordan, to stay away
