Chapter 2

Author: Margot
Caleb didn’t lie.

When I returned home, I saw only leftovers on the table. All the good food was eaten up.

Susan stood before me, wearing a nightgown and holding her slightly bulging belly.

"I'm sorry, I was so hungry that I couldn't wait for you to come back to eat together. Maria, you won't blame me, right?" She said, pretending to be pitiful.

Even if I was slow, I could hear the malice in her words towards me.

Looking at her pretentious appearance, my inner wolf growled in my chest, clamoring to give her some unforgettable punishment. I clenched my fist to suppress my impulse. This was not my purpose today.

Caleb was an orphan adopted by Susan's family. They had played together since childhood and had developed a deep friendship.

Caleb was used to caring for Susan, so she was always his highest priority.

In the beginning, everything between Caleb and me was very beautiful.

He had a good temper, and we never quarreled.

Even if there were any conflicts and frictions, Caleb would come first and coax me, irrespective of whose fault it was.

Everyone envied me for finding a high-quality boyfriend like Caleb. Even my best friend used to think he spoiled me like a princess.

But half a year ago, all this envy disappeared.

Because Susan returned to Caleb, and he transfered all his love and attention to her.

"Maria, why did you come back so late? I reminded you that food is limited." Caleb said, coming out of the kitchen. His first reaction when he saw me was not surprise, but a frown.

He thought I would rush back as soon as I received his message, because I had always done so in the past.

I replied calmly, as if facing a stranger."I was busy with something, so I got a little late.

"What was so important that you choose that over eating with me?"

There was Caleb and FYI you are no longer my top priority. I thought in my heart.

I didn’t plan to tell Caleb about my marking ceremony with Vincent, because I had decided to cut off all contact with him.

I came here just to take away the things that were mine.

"That has nothing to do with you," I said. "I am going to the next tribe to discuss the contract with my father, and now I am here to pack my luggage."

I didn't care about his possible reaction and went straight to the bedroom.

As soon as I opened the bedroom door, a garbage dump was waiting for me.

I stood at the door in surprise, and found that someone had dragged the the sheets and quilts and I dumped to the ground; the wardrobe was wide open, and the clothes inside were randomly piled together and wrinkled like rags.

Then my eyes drifted to the bedside table, where my first trophy, given by my grandmother, was thrown to the ground, broken into two pieces with a half footprint.

I couldn’t help but roar. "Caleb! Who the hell messed up my bedroom like this? Who threw my things?!"

This trophy bone symbolizes glory and power. My grandma captured it from the battlefield.

Caleb came to check, frowned, and then quickly loosened his brows, and said to me in a nonchalant tone, "It's just a toy. When the tribe purchases next time, I will find someone to buy you another one."

My heart froze inch by inch. Caleb's attitude suggested that it was not the broken things that were unimportant, but me.

"It must be Susan who did it," my inner wolf said with gritted teeth, "Caleb will be so cared only when he has to defend Susan!"

I affirmed my wolf, raised my head, and said coldly, "I know that Susan is the creator of these troubles."

This simple sentence immediately irked Caleb.

"Why do you say that? What evidence do you have? What if it fell by itself?"

"Maria, even if you are the daughter of an alpha, you can't slander others without reason. If you continue accusing Susan without any proofs, I will tell the law enforcement team about your bad behavior!"

I was so angry that I trembled.

I only said one sentence, and Caleb wanted the law enforcement team to judge me.

Susan was not around, but Caleb made sure not to get her reputation tarnished.

The person who occupied Caleb's attention was no longer me. But he was not like this half a year ago.

I really fell in love with him on the eve of a tribal war.

The enemy tribe sent people to sneak over and wanted to kidnap me to threaten my father.

Caleb volunteered to be on duty at night. He guarded the border of the territory closest to me to prevent danger from approaching me.

This werewolf, who was always gentle, polite, and calm, tore many enemies apart that night. At dawn, his face, hands, and body were covered with smelly blood, just so that I could sleep well.

I still remember clearly how much Caleb cherished me at that time. How could he forget it himself?
