Chapter 50

Author: Aurora Wells
He leaned in closer, and a faint floral fragrance drifted from him.

I turned my head away.

Everything about this man screamed flirt.

I had no doubt that if he really turned up the charm, few women could resist him.

I instinctively took a step back. "Mr. Wynn, you've misunderstood. I'm not your brother’s woman."

As soon as I said it, my face heated up.

In my eighteen years of life, I had never spoken so boldly before.

And against someone like him—smooth, flirtatious, and absurdly good-looking—I had absolutely no countermeasures.

Trey caught on immediately.

He deliberately lowered his head, his breath tickling my ear. "If you’re not my brother’s woman, why don’t you be mine?"

The warmth of his breath sent a shiver down my spine, and I hurriedly took two steps back.

My face burned so hot I was sure it could melt. "Mr. Wynn, have some respect. I… I’m not here to make that kind of acquaintance."

A sudden thought flashed in my mind, and I added, "You know my name is Evelyn White, so you sho

“It’s me.”I heard a gentle voice, soothing in the darkness. The bedside lamp clicked on, casting a warm, golden glow over his face.It was Miles.I wiped my face in a daze, only to realize it was covered in tears.Without a word, Miles stood up, fetched a warm towel, and carefully wiped my face.“You had a nightmare. You were crying the whole time.”I asked, “Did I say anything?”He gazed at me deeply. “I heard you calling for your parents… and your brother.”A lump formed in my throat. So, it really had just been a dream.Miles studied my expression. “Are you feeling better now?”I nodded, but a sense of emptiness lingered. After a moment of silence, I suddenly asked, “Miles, you knew the White family cut ties with me, didn’t you?”His hand paused for a brief second. Then, after a long moment, he responded with a quiet “Mm.”I let out a bitter laugh. “None of you told me.”His expression remained calm. “Telling you wouldn’t have changed anything. People have to keep moving forward.”

I lowered my head, avoiding his gaze. Miles suddenly asked, “Kira and Trey came today?” I was stunned. I hadn’t expected him to bring that up. I nodded. He asked, “Did they say anything unpleasant to you?” I shook my head. “Really?” he pressed. I shook my head again. Miles studied me for a long moment before finally responding with a simple, “Alright. Go upstairs and rest.” I hesitated, standing there, the words I had been rehearsing all afternoon suddenly stuck in my throat. Noticing I hadn’t moved, Miles turned back. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Or do you have something to tell me?” I quickly shook my head. “No, nothing. It’s nothing.” With that, I hurried upstairs. Just as I reached the stairs, his voice rang out behind me. “Don’t listen to anything Kira says. And as for Trey, just ignore him.” I nodded absentmindedly. Then he added, “Once I’ve finished dealing with things tomorrow, I’ll arrange for you to stay somewhere else.” I froze. Mi

Dolly quickly comforted me. “Eve, don’t be upset. Family bonds run deep. Once you divorce Julian and reclaim what’s rightfully yours, you can reach out to your parents and your brother. “If you sincerely apologize, they’ll surely forgive you.”A glimmer of hope sparked in my heart. “Do you really think so?” “Of course! No matter what, you’re still their daughter. Your parents are getting older, and your brother only has you as his sister.“They were probably just disappointed in you before. If you show them you’ve changed, they’ll forgive you.” Her words gave me a little confidence. She was right. My parents and brother had loved and spoiled me when I was younger. They couldn’t possibly abandon me for good. As long as I cut ties with Julian, they would forgive me. Even if they didn’t forgive me immediately, at least they wouldn’t completely sever our relationship. Family bonds could be repaired over time, but this marriage—I had to end it as soon as possible. He smirked, his expression unreadable. “If she really does become my sister-in-law, now that would be interesting.”Kira fumed. “Trey, can you seriously tolerate someone like her stepping into the Wynn family?”He glanced at her. “Why? Are you jealous?”Kira quickly covered up. “No! That’s not what I meant. I just think someone like Evelyn is trash—who would want her?!”Trey’s smirk deepened. “I don’t think she’s trash. In fact, I think she’s quite interesting.”Kira was so furious she couldn’t even find the words to respond. Then, as if a thought suddenly struck her, she narrowed her eyes. “Wait… don’t tell me you have an interest in her too?”Instead of answering, Trey lazily gestured for the group of young women nearby to come over. With sweet giggles, they skipped toward him, their voices soft and flirtatious.Whatever they whispered in his ear made him chuckle. He casually pulled two of them into his arms and planted playful kisses on each of their cheeks. The tennis court filled

This apartment was in the prime district of Riverdale’s CBD, surrounded by hospitals, banks, and supermarkets.More importantly, its interior design matched my taste perfectly—simple, modern, with sleek, designer furniture. The sofa and dining set were brand new, their stylish aesthetic effortlessly blending with the space. After wandering through the apartment, I sprawled out on the massive king-sized bed and called Dolly. The line was busy.I muttered, “She’s really swamped.”Just then, my phone rang—it was Miles.I quickly answered, “Hello? Miles?”His crisp, steady voice came through the line. “Sean told me you’ve set your sights on the high-rise apartment?”“Yeah. Everything here is so convenient. Even if I get hungry in the middle of the night, I wouldn’t need to order takeout—there are restaurants just a short walk away.” Then I hesitated before adding, “Miles, let me rent this place from you, okay? I have the money now.”There was a pause on the other end.“Rent?” His voice c

His voice was slow, deliberate. “Evelyn, can we not get a divorce?”For a second, I thought I had misheard.I hadn’t even responded when Julian spoke again, his tone both weary and frustrated. “Evelyn, let’s talk this through properly. Don’t treat divorce like a joke.”I remained silent.Sensing my lack of response, he pressed on. “I admit that I married you out of spite back then, but we’ve been through five years together. We’ve weathered storms. Why can’t we just… stay married?”His voice softened, filled with a kind of forced tenderness. “Eve, I know I’ve let you down in many ways. But stop this, okay? Come back.”I hung up.Then, without hesitation, I blocked the number.I calmly walked back upstairs, looking at the piles of untouched luxury goods scattered around the room.Pulling out my phone, I downloaded the resale app Dolly had recommended. One by one, I took pictures of everything and listed them for sale.At eighteen, I wanted a passionate, all-consuming love.At twenty-fi

I forced a smile. “Thank you.”Miles nudged the menu toward me. “Do you want to pick something you like?”I glanced at the menu, realizing it was all in a foreign language. I awkwardly admitted, “I can’t read it.”“There’s an English menu.”The restaurant manager, as if performing a magic trick, swiftly produced one.I took a look and could sort of understand it.Miles noticed my struggle and chuckled. “Still having trouble?”Feeling embarrassed, I sighed. “My brain… only remembers high school-level English.”Losing seven years of memories meant I had also lost all the knowledge I gained in college.Right now, I was just dumb and clueless, but not in an endearing way.Miles gave a small nod. “That was my oversight.”Just as we were speaking, a couple walked in, their arms linked, heading in our direction. The moment I saw them, my expression stiffened. Without thinking, I grabbed the menu and used it to shield my face. The couple spotted me as well. They froze at first, then hesitat

"You—!" Chloe lost her composure, but quickly reined herself in.This was a public setting, and more importantly, Miles was here. They still had enough sense not to lash out at me so recklessly in front of him.The atmosphere turned tense again, thick with unspoken hostility. No one spoke this time, not until the food began arriving.Miles casually took my plate of lamb chops and, with precise, unhurried movements, cut the meat into neat, bite-sized pieces before sliding the dish back to me.I looked at the sizzling, juicy lamb and grinned. “Thanks, Miles.”Julian suddenly spoke, his tone laced with irritation. “Eve doesn’t like lamb.”Miles raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”Julian’s expression was firm. “I was married to her for five years. I know exactly what she likes. She hates lamb.”Without a word, I picked up my fork, speared a piece of lamb, and popped it into my mouth. Then I turned to Miles and said, “I love lamb. I always have.”His gaze softened with quiet amusement. “I know. Your b

My phone buzzed twice.I quickly unlocked it and found a flood of photos and videos.A quick glance was all I needed before I grimaced and looked away."Here, there’s more where that came from," Trey said, watching me with an amused smirk. "So, tell me, do you really want to take down Julian? What happened? You finally got your head on straight? Or did you take the wrong meds recently?"Of course, someone as well-connected as him would have heard all about my black history.I hesitated. "I… I just don’t want to keep embarrassing myself."Trey chuckled, unconvinced. "Liar."His eyes narrowed, studying me with unsettling sharpness. "Tell me the truth, and I’ll give you something even juicier."I hesitated, James’ warning from earlier still fresh in my mind.Seeing my internal struggle, Trey’s smirk deepened. "No truth? Hmm?"I had no choice but to admit, "I… I lost my memory. And I don’t love Julian anymore."Trey blinked. Then, after a brief pause—he burst into laughter.Loud, unabashe

The three of us walked out together.Waiting outside were three flashy Ferraris, belonging to Trey’s poker buddies. They strolled over, grinning. “Trey, Evelyn, where to?”Trey casually rattled off a location, and the guys whooped as they jumped into their cars—each one, of course, with a stunning young woman already waiting in the passenger seat.Dolly tugged at my sleeve, whispering, “This is a full-blown rich boys’ club.”I nodded. “I just need to stick around long enough to get the evidence.”My gaze drifted to the bag she was clutching tightly—stuffed to the brim with cash.“And, well… there’s a lot of money involved, too.”At the mention of money, Dolly’s entire attitude shifted. Her back straightened, her legs no longer ached, and suddenly, she had zero complaints about hanging out with a group of spoiled playboys.Instead of taking one of the Ferraris, Trey ditched the idea and grabbed a convertible that could fit all three of us.And so, we sped off.Four cars tore through th

Trey smirked, his tone dripping with mockery. "Oh? Is that so? I thought it was your beloved Chloe who started spilling the tea. I’m just helping the public see the truth, nothing more."Laughter rippled through the room again.I watched as Trey danced all over Julian’s last nerve, and yet, Julian had no way of shutting him down.I couldn’t help it and laughed.Julian’s eyes darkened the moment he saw me smile. "Evelyn, you—"I cut him off. "What does this have to do with me? Chloe accused you of deceiving her. Maybe you should go explain things to her instead of embarrassing yourself here."His expression grew even more menacing. "You... what are you doing with him?"I let out a cold, dismissive laugh. "Julian, I’m divorcing you. We have nothing to do with each other anymore. If I want to hang out with friends, I will. If I want to go out and have fun, I will. What right do you have to control me?"His face darkened with rage. He stepped forward like he was about to drag me away.Bu

Something stirred inside me, and for a moment, I forgot to push him away.“Hurry up, play your hand!”The guys who had just lost were already urging me to make a move.I hesitantly placed a card down—the Queen of Spades.Trey smirked. “Not bad. Playing the Queen—might just turn things in your favor.”With a cigarette between his lips, he leaned over again, casually adjusting the cards in my hand. The truth was, I did know how to play poker—at least in theory. I had spent enough time as a child watching my mother and her socialite friends play at fancy cocktail parties. But watching and playing were two very different things. At first, I was stiff, unsure of the strategy. Then, as the game went on, I started picking up the rhythm. And then… I won.I stared down at my hand in disbelief, double-checking my cards. I glanced at Trey for confirmation.Just then, he flicked away his cigarette and leaned back with a lazy grin.“Straight flush. Damn, you actually won. Alright, pay up, boys!”

A strange shiver ran through me, and I quickly averted my gaze.Trey seemed to catch onto my thoughts. He smirked, deliberately exhaling a puff of smoke in my direction before turning to the others. “Alright, let’s play a few rounds.”I shot Dolly a pleading look, but she only shrugged helplessly. The game began. Trey’s long fingers toyed with the custom poker cards, his every movement exuding an effortless sense of wealth and refinement.“Three rounds.”He casually discarded a card, then leaned back, eyes half-lidded as he took a slow drag from his cigarette.“Hah! Gotcha! I win!” one of the guys across the table cheered, rubbing his hands together excitedly.Trey rolled his eyes, laughing. “That’s all it takes to get you excited? Fine, take it.”The game moved on—counting cards, reshuffling the deck. I watched as Trey casually tossed a thick stack of cash onto the table. My brows furrowed and thought, “They’re playing for that much?”He glanced at me. “Starting to get it?”I shook

I took in the massive VIP suite, realizing just how absurdly large it was.Scattered around the plush sofas were more young men—clearly heirs to wealthy families, each accompanied by stunning women. And these weren’t just any women. Every single one of them had the kind of looks that could make them instant social media influencers. They knew how to dress, and they weren’t shy about showing off. That was when it clicked—so this was why the server gave Dolly and me such a weird look earlier.I was in a simple, modest white cotton dress. Dolly was in a tracksuit and sneakers. Our attires were high-quality from designer brands, but compared to these women, we might as well have walked in from an entirely different world.Dolly tugged at my sleeve, frowning. “Who is this? Do you recognize him?”I pointed to the man sitting in the very center—the most striking, effortlessly handsome one in the room. “He’s Trey Wynn. So, it’s him.”Right on cue, Trey spotted us. He lifted his glass and s

I said, “He did buy me a lot of jewelry, designer bags, clothes, and other things. Those are worth quite a bit.”James adjusted his glasses. “Those are considered gifts. The court won’t allow you to reclaim them. “But Chloe Clarke, on the other hand, is in trouble. The transfer records and expensive gifts she herself exposed can all be compiled as assets to recover.”I was momentarily stunned.Dolly burst out laughing. “Amazing! This scheming, gold-digging snake clearly never bothered to read the latest civil laws! Everything she got falls under marital assets.”Realization hit me. “So not only can I get back the money I invested in Moore Group, but I can also claim a significant portion of Julian’s wealth and leave Chloe with nothing?”Dolly grinned. “Ding ding ding! You got it.”Then she turned to James. “Mr. Howe, make sure you collect every piece of evidence. Let’s ruin Julian Moore.”James smiled knowingly. “Bankrupting him might be a stretch—Julian has built a strong foundation

He pulled an A4 sheet from his briefcase, a photocopy of an official document.I immediately spotted my signature, along with the statement detailing the purpose of the transferred funds. In my own handwriting, I had written: Investment as a partner in Moore Group’s Expansion project.A long breath of relief escaped me.James smiled. “It’s all clearly stated, and there’s also a record of your transfer into Moore Group’s corporate account. There’s no way they can deny this.”“Thank you, Mr. Howe,” I said sincerely. He waved it off with ease. “No need to thank me. You should be thanking the financial regulations in place. “If you had transferred the money directly to Julian’s personal account instead, it could’ve been classified as a gift.”At that, the entire legal team seemed to relax considerably. Then James turned to me with a serious expression. “Miss White, have you truly lost your memory?”I nodded. He grew even more solemn. “You cannot let Julian know about this.
