Chapter 2

It is exactly a week since Nita left Dennis's house and life for good. She was yet to start on a new phase. Staying alone in her new apartment, loneliness and confusion had the best of her.

She wanted to move on fast and she felt what was holding her back was Dennis not notifying her about signing the divorce papers.

He needed to sign it, it had to be official that they are no longer a thing.

With a frown, she decided to visit him to make him sign the papers and if he proves stubborn then she will have to take him to court.

Thirty minutes later, Nita was before the receptionist at Dennis' office.

With a smile, the lady welcomed her.

“It's been a while, Mrs.”

Nita replied almost immediately. “Yeah right! Sophy, I am here to see your boss.”

“Hmmm,” Sophy wore a confused look.

“Anything the problem?” Nita asked with an arched brow.

“Not at all. Just that he made it clear that he is engrossed with an official assignment and won’t entertain intrusion of any sort.”

“You have nothing to worry about.” Nita winked at her.

Instead of using the elevator, Nita settled to use the staircase. After some minutes, she halted at his door. She wondered if settling personal issues at the office was a good idea but she soon waved the thought off.

After some minutes of hesitation, Nita barged into the office.

To her surprise, Dennis was not in his seat as the receptionist had said. And female wears including a bra were spread all over the floor. Her heart further shattered at the sight she beheld but she remained calm.

“What’s going on here?” Nita whispers.

Slowly, Nita quietly took a seat to see the woman who would come to claim what was lying on the floor.

At this point, a strange feminine voice became audible.

“Dennis, I’ve missed you a lot. You always make me feel awesome. We should have another round.”

It was clear that the fool called Dennis Sly was in his office closet, lashing a lady.

Even though she was not concerned about what Dennis did with his body and life, what hurt her the most was that they were yet to finalize their divorce process and in his official abode he was making a mess of it with another woman.

Ring…

Dennis's phone rang and immediately, he rushed out to answer the call.

His hair was disheveled, his buttons undone and his belt unhooked.

She stared at him speechlessly.

“Nita… why didn’t you inform me about your visit?” Dennis asked with his voice etched with shock.

Angrily she replied, “What good would it have made if I informed you before visiting?”

Quickly, he adjusted his clothes and arranged his hair with his hands.

He cleared his throat, “So, why are you here?”

Nita hissed.

“Have you signed it?” She didn’t want to waste time talking to him. His presence irritated her.

“To be honest, I have never seen you this confident and fearless. However, now that you are within my jurisdiction, I won’t tolerate you creating a scene.”

“Scene?” Nita laughed. “What scene is more entertaining than this?” She pointed to the clothes on the floor.

“Why is she still pestering you?” A figure emerged from the closet and uttered.

His gaze darted between the figure and Nita before he said. “Lisha, it is nothing to worry about.”

Nita shook her head as she watched him pick the wears on the floor and handed them to Lisha.

“I am yet to receive the signed divorce papers from you,” Nita uttered coldly.

By the time Lisha was done wearing her clothes, she went to stand beside Dennis and placed her hand on his chest. “Sign it and let her leave us for good.”

Inwardly, Nita was boiling with rage but she had no business with Lisha. She blames her unfortunate husband for it all.

Dennis gazed at Nita.

“I will sign it at my own pace. You can’t pressure me, Nita.”

“It is obvious you need help mentally! You’ve ended it and all I did was to make the process faster for you.”

“Watch your words, Nita.” Dennis scolded.

Nita’s eyes reddened with anger.

“I regret ever getting hitched with you in the first place. You have another woman in your arms so why don’t you want to sign the divorce papers?”

“I won’t have you talk to my man like that.” Lisha pointed at Nita.

“You have twenty-four hours to sign those papers, otherwise…”

“Otherwise what?” Dennis yelled.

Lisha took a step away from him and folded her hands.

“Dennis, you have to divorce her. You can’t claim you still love me when you haven’t made your separation with her official. Do the needful as soon as possible.”

“I will, just that ---"

Nita gazed at Dennis and hissed.

The moment Nita stood up, Dennis held her hand tightly.

“Can’t you reason? Is my office the right place for all this drama? Just leave, I’ll reach out to you when I sign the papers.”

He pulled her out of his office like a thief.

She struggled to free her hand from his grasp but her strength was no match to his.

“Let me go, don’t touch me,” Nita yells.

His touch which once sent shivers down her spine now caused her pain and more hatred for him. He didn’t listen to her plea and continued to drag her.

Dennis was about to utter a word but was interrupted by Nita’s ringing phone.

“I have a call, take your hands off me.” She uttered before answering the call.

“Hello!”

“Hi, Nita.”

Nita paused for a while and glanced at the screen, it was an unknown number. However, the voice sounded familiar.

“Who is on the line?”

“It is Victor, your uncle. I am in a mess, I need help. Please come over.”

Nita’s eyes widened in shock. She knew her uncle hardly called her and now that he did, he sounded tensed making it hard for her to recognize his voice initially.

What could the mess be?

“I’ll be expecting the signed papers,” Nita said and hurriedly headed out of the company.

“What could have made Nita so worried?” Dennis muttered under his breath as he watched her leave.

Why was he concerned about what made Nita worried? If he cared about her, then he shouldn’t have returned to his long-lost ex after five years!

At Victor’s residence

“Please, Mr. Willow, all I ask for is more time.”

“That won’t be possible, Victor. A deal is a deal. Your debt was due a year ago. You didn’t even make any move concerning the payment.”

Victor shivered, his knees wobbly and his heart racing against his ribcage. “Please I’ll pay back as soon as possible.”

“As soon as possible might also mean never,” Willow replied mockingly.

“Please show mercy on my family, this is the only company we have left in our name. If you seize it then you have rendered us miserable.”

Willow shook his head; those words didn’t move him. They had an agreement and he must stick to it at all cost.

“Get your ass together and face reality. Your words won’t make me change my mind. Nothing will!”

How certain was Willow that nothing would change his mind? Fate always had a role!
