Davina

“Alex, if this is a joke, no matter how harmless you might think it is to you. Let me just let you know this: it is a rather expensive one,” Mr. William warned.

My father warned.

I couldn't stare at his face, so instead, I moved my gaze to the name tag on his table.

The name written there was Mr. William Charez, with the position he occupied written under his name.

“Fortunately, it isn't a joke, sir,” Alex replied.

Silence slowly enveloped the whole office; no one said a single thing.

I raised my head off the tag on the table to look at Mr. Wi… my father to see why he is yet to say anything.

He was staring at me with a stern but calm expression on his face. Studying me.

“So, you are my daughter, my little baby girl, Stasha,” he said with a slightly emotional tone, but there was still a hint of disbelief there.

Like he was struggling to believe that I am actually his daughter.

I won't really blame him; if I were in his shoes, I would have failed to believe also if someo

The way I watched the doctors and even everyone here treat Mr. Charez and Alexander, along with me—obviously for following them—it was like we were demigods. Immediately after they were done, the doctor placed in charge took us to his office after we were done in the lab. “You can have your seat, sir,” the man said, gesturing to one of the couches in his huge office with a bright, wide smile plastered on his face. “Thank you, Sam,” my dad said and had his seat. “As much as I would love to give you the result immediately, I am sorry to inform you that it would take quite a while,” the man said with a slightly apologetic tone. “You don’t have to apolog

It took us fifteen minutes to get to the one closest to us. Unable to contain my curiosity, I was pushed to ask a question, “Is it really all your property that you own, put on the internet?” He let out a low chuckle before he answered me, “No, there are still quite a few that are not noticed by the public, and I don't think that is going to change any time soon.”“That was partially expected, so it isn't that surprising,” I replied. “Where are you?” My dad asked someone else over the phone immediately after we parked in front of the hotel. I hadn't even noticed him pulling out his phone, not to talk of dialing the contact of whoever he is talking to. I had been too busy staring at the seven-star hotel, but I wasn't too awed or taken by surprise. This kind of luxurious building was defin

Davina pov Sitting in the restaurant with my family and my husband's family, I couldn't help but notice one person who had made it her life's mission to make my existence miserable—Courtney, my sister.Courtney had finished her education and had now returned. My husband, Sebastian, and my sister were eating and laughing, discussing things as if it were their first date, while I sat there, feeling like a third wheel—even though it was supposed to be a family dinner. I sat across the table, watching the scene unfold as I gently rubbed my small belly, which held the unborn child I had recently discovered I was carrying. This was supposed to be a family gathering, but as usual, I felt like an outsider. None of them even noticed that I wasn't eating, as they were all too busy listening to whatever it was Courtney was saying to my husband. I watched Sebastian gaze at Courtney with so much longing as she passed him the salad bowl. His first love had returned, and I was left

Davina Courtney stood up to make her announcement, and the room fell silent as everyone waited for her to speak. "So, I just want to share with you all... I'm two weeks pregnant," she said, a smile spreading across her face. Everyone’s mouths dropped open, and confused glances were exchanged as they tried to process her words. "Then who is the father of the child?" I asked, breaking the silence in a mix of curiosity and disbelief. Courtney smiled before answering. "Sebastian is the father." My eyes widened in shock at her statement. "What?!" I exclaimed, standing up in disbelief as I tried to process what I had just heard. Everyone turned to look at me—Sebastian remained silent, and Courtney wore a smug smirk. “Davina, sit down. You’re embarrassing us,” my mother hissed, glancing nervously around the restaurant. All eyes were on our table now. I turned to her, fuming. “I’m embarrassing you? Not your whore of a daughter, who slept with my hu

Davina’s povI sat in the cold, dimly lit cell, replaying the events at the restaurant in my mind. How had it come to this? Ending up in jail was the last thing I ever expected. Why did the woman I once called "Mother" hate me so much? The question burned in my mind as I leaned back against the wall, letting the memories drag me to a time when I was just a child. ---I was in a grand living room, the kind of place you’d see in magazines. My eyes wandered over the ornate furniture and glimmering chandelier, but none of it felt familiar. In truth, nothing did—not the house, not the people, not even myself. All I remembered was waking up in a hospital bed with a man and a woman watching me nervously. Now, here I was in their home, sipping on a juice box the woman had handed me. “Hey, sweetheart,” she said gently, her voice warm but cautious. She watched me as if I might break at any moment. “Hi,” I mumbled, taking another sip. “Do you remember anything? What happened to you?”

Davina's POVI blinked in confusion, staring up at the guard. A lawyer? My pulse quickened. I wasn’t expecting anyone—certainly not so soon. Slowly, I stood, my boots echoing against the concrete floor as I followed him out of the murky cell block. As we stepped into the hallway, my gaze landed on a young man in a sharp navy suit. He stood tall, exuding quiet confidence. His dark eyes locked on mine, and he offered a faint but reassuring smile. “Mrs. Campbell?” he asked, his voice calm and steady. I nodded, too stunned to speak. “I’m Cole Daniels,” he said, extending a hand. “Your lawyer.” I hesitated before shaking it. His grip was firm, his hand warm against my freezing skin. “Who… who called you?” I managed, my voice unsteady. He gestured for me to follow him down the corridor. “Your assistant, Jane. She’s worried about you and thought I could help.” Jane. A wave of emotion surged through me, tightening my throat. Despite everything, she still believed in me. I no

I stood there, my wrist still tingling from Sebastian’s grip, my pulse hammering in my ears. The station buzzed around me, officers moving back and forth, their voices blending into a meaningless hum. I had taken my phone and called Cole's number immediately to come take me away from here. For Jane to trust him, he was the only person I could trust at this moment. I should have felt relief. I was free. But instead, my stomach churned with fury. Sebastian wanted me to sit through that meeting like nothing had happened? Like he hadn’t just thrown our marriage away and humiliated me? Like his family hadn’t tried to bury me? Who the fuck does that? And he even had the effrontery to threaten me? I clenched my fists, "No. He doesn’t get to decide how I walk away from this." I turned toward the exit, and made my way out. The moment I stepped outside, the evening air hit my soul and it felt like I'd been in that cell for decades. A black car was parked a

I drove into Sebastian's estate that evening, my fingers gripping the steering wheel with more force than necessary. I was fuming and I believe I could pluck his eyes out of the socket if he were near me at this moment. My mind raced with questions, my heart beating erratically in my chest. What else did he want from me? I just got out of jail, I should be resting. The wrought-iron gates opened slowly, groaning as if protesting my presence. I hated how familiar it all was, how the sight of it still evoked a mixture of nostalgia and resentment. This is where I had lived for three years and now, I feel like a stranger. As I pulled into the circular driveway and parked my car, exhaustion settled over me like a heavy cloak. I exhaled sharply, rubbing my temples before stepping out of the vehicle. I looked around. No one was in sight. That was rather odd. The air was still, eerily so. A prickle of unease crept up my spine. I prayed that neither Courtney nor my

Ga-dump That right there was the sound of my heart as I took my first step into the gigantic building owned by the family occupying the top spot in the business world and have been unrivaled for years. Alexander slipped both of his hands and took steady, easy steps filled with confidence, compared to my steps that might look elegant from the outside, but on a closer look, someone who pays attention to details would notice that it's all an act. “This is my parents that I am on my way to see; they are the least people I should be nervous around,”Those are the exact words I keep telling myself to feel more at home as I pass through the people occupying the lobby. Different heads bowed in greeting as we walked past. I am pretty sure that the greetings weren't directed to me but to the person walking confidently beside me. He was used to being bowed to by people of the high caliber that occupied the lobby. “I thought your legs would be shaky when you stepped into the lobby,

Davina. We both got ready in less than thirty minutes and got on the way immediately. My briefcase sat in the boot of the car while I occupied the front passenger seat, with Alex behind the wheel. Alex. If you had asked me last night if I would have ever addressed him as Alex after he told me his name, the answer I would have given would have been a negative one.I had no intention of addressing him by a short form of his name or if I would ever see him again casually. The only thing that was in my mind that would have brought us together again would have to be nothing other than business. “So, now that you know about how most of my life had played out, don't you think it would be fair for me to know how most of yours, or at least a little of it, had played out?” I asked, breaking the silence that had enveloped the car and had made the journey to my real parent's home boring as fuck. Maybe it wasn't their house we were headed to at the moment, but anywhere that is.“You have to

Davina I couldn’t help but think about how differently my life would have played out if I hadn’t gotten lost that fateful day. I wouldn’t have had to meet with the Stewarts family, wouldn’t have had to endure the hell I went through at the hands of the person who I had called mother throughout my childhood. I wouldn’t have had to endure getting bossed around by someone who I had seen as my younger sister. The pains I had to go through the past few years were crazy. I wouldn’t have met with the Campbell family, not to talk of falling in love with their first son; I would have been so out of reach for him. Someone Sebastian can only admire from a distance but doesn’t have any chance of bonding with at all. I could have had a better life where I would be treated like I should be, like the daughter of a wealthy family that I am. I could have had to bond with actual friends and fallen in love with a wonderful gentleman, not the shitty hell I had been put through and had to endure for

Davina“The same Charez family that I know of?” I questioned. “Yes, the popular Charez family,” he answered with a tone filled with sincerity. But no matter how sincere he sounded. I still found it hard to believe what he was saying; there is no way I am the daughter of such a wealthy, heavily influential, and powerful family. I shook my head in disbelief. “You are wrong; you got the wrong person.”The Charez family is so great that even my family and my ex-husband’s family pale in comparison and have been looking up to them. To them the Charez family was out of reach and in a position that even if they remained stagnant and stopped increasing their wealth for decades, the Stewarts and my ex-husband’s family would still be unable to reach them no matter how hard they worked. But to other families, the Stewarts family was out of reach for them and in a position they would only dream of for decades, and yet the Charez family was exactly that way to the Stewarts family. That just goe

Davina“Which family are you from again?” Alexander asked while assisting me with setting up my stuff. I had decided to lodge in the hotel temporarily while still looking for a house to rent or buy in the city. I had plans to meet up with who was supposed to help me with that later today and let her know the kind of houses I prefer. “The Stewarts,” I answered with a sigh. I really do not have any intention of answering the questions he was asking, but it was not like I had any other choice. Since I wanted to be done with setting it up as quickly as possible, I needed Alexander’s help, and he said the only way he would help me with that is if I answer at least seventy of the questions he has to satisfy his curiosity.“I can swear that I’ve never heard of them before,” Alexander replied with a blank expression. “That is quite surprising; they are quite an influential family also,” I replied and stretched my hand forward, pointing at a particular thing. “Can you help me pass that?”

DavinaOh lord, how many did I have to drink last night? The throbbing headache that forced me to hold my head immediately when I woke up was an obvious sign that I took more than I was supposed to, or maybe the glasses of whiskey I took were stronger than the one I was accustomed to.I had vague memories of how last night had gone; I don't even know how I fell asleep and how I ended up in the bedroom. The only thing I could remember clearly was that I went out to the living room just because I couldn't sleep, and luckily for me, Alexander was awake. The expression on his face seemed like he had something troubling his mind also, things he didn't want to let out or felt too reluctant to let out.Why does it feel like I understand him perfectly? I have no idea. It is just a feeling I can't explain; maybe it's because I was feeling that way, but even though I felt reluctant about sharing the chain of events that shattered my heart, a couple of glasses was all it took for me to pour
