In a matter of seconds, Gadreel’s expression, once mixed with brief confusion, turned cold, entirely and he was left speechless.
A divorce agreement? Ivory dared to go through with her bite-less barks, rather than apologizing?!
His hold around the paper tightened and his eyes darkened.
She was really going to lengths, kicking up a fuss over petty nothing.
“Sir,” Ezekiel’s voice interrupted his thought at that moment. Tentatively, the secretary stepped closer, holding out a smaller envelope. “She…she also left this for you.”
He couldn't help but stutter after sensing the cloud of displeasure that hung around his boss.
Gadreel had always been an intimidating figure, be it in the business industry or personal life. And at this moment, he looked the most displeased, Ezekiel had ever seen him.
Like a storm waiting to break out.
But Gadreel, seemingly noticing that this little act of Ivory was riling him up- perhaps like she wanted- quickly composed himself and reached for the envelope.
However, his jaw clenched when he opened the envelope, and read the letter that came with it.
“Dear husband,” the note read, “If you’re reading this, then it means you’ve seen the document I sent. Don’t be arrogant, don’t make this harder than it has to be for any of us, and just sign those papers. Just in case you worry, I will not be taking anything, neither your assets nor money. The only thing I ask is for us to peacefully part ways. This is the least you can give me for all the years I wasted on you.
Sincerely, Your ex-wife.”
Gadreel was, quite frankly, dumbfounded by her words.
What the hell did she mean ‘for all the years she wasted on him?’
At once, he pulled out his phone and dialed Ivory’s number. It rang, and after the third ring, the line was answered.
“Hello?” Ivory’s voice filled his ear, sounding different, distant, if he was to put a finger on it.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Gadreel asked. “Is this another one of your cry for attention?”
“Far from that.” Ivory clarified, knowing by now, he’s been made aware of the divorce Agreement. “In fact, it’s exactly what it looks like. I told you I wanted a divorce, Gadreel.”
Hearing this, he clenched his jaw and clammed his eyes shut, trying his very best to not get riled up.
“Stop this nonsense, Ivory and come back right this instance.”
“And why should I do that?” She challenged. “Why should I listen to a man who wouldn’t even perform his duty as my husband?”
“Ivory-“ Gadreel started, his voice taking that dangerous tone it always did when he was getting angry.
But without waiting for him to complete what he wanted to say, Ivory cut in.
“I’m over you Gadreel. The title of your wife, I’ve gotten tired of holding that useless thing, now, I’m giving it back to its rightful owner. Don’t be a delusional dictator and sign those documents.”
And without another second to waste, the line was cut and Ivory was gone.
Gadreel didn’t speak, and neither did he move from his spot. He just stared at the lit fire place with a calmness in his eyes that didn’t look all that believable.
But Ezekiel knew, watching as the veins on his boss’s temple throbbed and as his jaw clenched and unclenched every now and then, that Gadreel was anything but calm.
In fact, he was the furthest from it.
Without a word uttered, Gadreel looked down at the paper he was still holding. His eyes scanned through it, seeing everything that had been documented and honestly, the divorce agreement, everything in it, was to his favor.
Something he would easily have signed and gotten over with, had he not spotted Ivory’s reason for filling for a divorce.
Irreconcilable difference and SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION.
Those words, much like the first two words on the paper top, were written in bold letters.
Bold letters that seemed to slap Gadreel right in the face, bruising his ego and dignity as a man.
Sexual dysfunction!
Who the fuck told her that something was wrong with his ability to perform in bed?!
Gadreel’s anger flared once again and it was taking a lot out of him, to not burn the document into flames at the very moment.
“Sir,” Ezekiel tried, once again.
This time, his voice was softer, more cautious, and Gadreel’s attention was on him almost instantly.
“Should I-“ He was interrupted immediately.
“Find her.” Gadreel growled.
Ezekiel gulped, his hands shaking. “S-Sir?”
“I said, find her!” He commanded and Ezekiel nearly jumped at the harsh and dangerous tone of his boss.
He nodded frantically, then, bowed his head, turned and left.
When he was gone, Gadreel looked at the fireplace and without hesitation, he threw the document into the burning fire.
The document instantly caught fire, but he didn’t leave, no, he stayed, watching the fire burn, a certain type of rage present in his eyes.
Ivory, it seems she needed to be taught how to be cautious with her words.

"You're finally free, Avery. I won't let you sit here mopping floors." Emm, Avery's only good friend, immediately drove to pick her up when she heard about her divorce.
After saying that, she rushed into the aisles, starting to look for a dress suitable for a nightclub for her friend.
"Uh, no thanks, I really don't want to go to a nightclub. You think the men in nightclubs aren't jerks?" Avery objected to Emma's idea of wanting her to meet new men.
"But are you in the mood to berate a jerk who never appreciated your efforts?" she said. "You know, why don't you go back to him and apologize for serving him the divorce papers. Doesn't that sound like a better idea?"
Emma's words were sharp but did work, making Avery realize within seconds that perhaps staying home mopping floors was wrong.
"Listen, Avery," Emma sighed, sitting next to her friend. "I know you're hurt, I know you're tired, but that doesn't mean you should keep hiding in your—my home, feeling miserable for someone unworthy of your love."
Emma reached out and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "So, what do you think?"
Avery didn't think a bar could make the pain of the past three years go away, but she thought she could go meet more friends, she needed to find more possibilities for herself.
"Relax! Avery, we're going to the bar just to get men to rub our toes, not—get married." Emma quipped as usual.
Avery was amused by Emma, and she immediately took out a black card from her wallet. "You're right, I was too serious before, that's why everyone ignored me."
Emma smiled, glad to see Avery's transformation, and immediately instructed the staff to do Avery's makeup. "Young lady! I knew you wouldn't be easily defeated by divorce! You know? Women often think about their divorced husbands, reluctant to take their property."
"But men secretly mock women's stupidity."
When Avery's makeup was done, Emma immediately exclaimed. "Soon the whole of Paris will know who is the most beautiful, that jerk will definitely regret it. Now, get up!"
With a few hours spent at the boutique and salon, Ivory looked like a totally different person. Her hair, once dull, was now a flaming red with golden streaks running through the ends. Her nails were freshly done and so were her feet. The outfit, a red skin-fitting dress, complimented her figure and was enough to catch the eye of anyone walking past. She looked the best she had done in years and as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, she couldn't help but feel stupid. So many years, she had wasted on Gadreel, hoping and praying her mightiest that he would some day come to love her.A dream which was far from reality and a reality, she was going to accept today, for the better."Well, what do you think?" Emma, who had been standing behind her, asked."I feel," Ivory started, then turned to her friend and finished with a genuine smile. "Like me."Emma smiled as well. "Great," She paused. "Now, are you ready to go party, have fun and finally celebrate you being free of that assho
Despite her initial reluctant, Ivory was having the best time of her life, so far, at the club."Fun, isn't it?" Emma asked as they sipped on their drinks and vibe to the jam of Opal Heights.Ivory nodded her head. "It is." Her expression fell a bit. "I can't believe I gave this up for..." She didn't allow his name leave her lips.It was now considered a forbidden name. A name belonging to the man who had caused her so much pain, caused her to sacrifice so much, yet, felt zero remorse for his actions.Although painful, Ivory was now sure that getting a divorce had been the right decision.Sensing the cloud of sadness that was beginning to gather above her friends head, Emma quickly spoke up."Enough seating and drinking," She collected the drinks and placed them one side on the table. "It's time to go out there and mingle and best of all," She raised her hand and called over a host. "It's time to get those men."Ivory laughed softly and Emma took that as her green light to go ahead."
The slap had stunned everyone present, Gadreel included. Soon, the murmurs, laughs and whispers that filled the small group had died down, leaving everyone to stare in awe and confusion.Had Ivory, the very same Ivory Remington that they knew, just raised her hand and hit Evangeline? That was almost too impossible to believe, after all, the woman they all knew and mocked, was too much of a coward to fight back. And yet, as they watched her, their eyes fell on the angry look on her face and her red hand which still held the position it was in after delivering a harsh slap.It was clear, from her expression, and from the way her chest rose and fell with heavy breaths, that she was pissed. This left the crowd speechless and for the first time, they all exchanged glances, silently questioning if Evangeline had crossed a line.Something they had never done before.“You…slapped me?” Evangeline, much like everyone present, couldn’t make heads of what had just happened. It had all happened so
The next day, as per the call she had received from her father the previous night, Ivory had driven back to her family house first thing in the morning. As she arrived at the Remington Manor, she couldn’t help but look at the place she had once called home, strangely, because without a doubt, if looked nothing like the family house she had known. The tall building, once a warm color of beige and brown, her mother’s favorite colors, or at least, the ones she had preferred seeing in her family house, was now a shouting color of dark gray, a color Ivory had no doubt was her step mother’s own preference.Even the gates that protected their property, were now colored a darker shade of gold and black, the very same color combination used on the signet hanging above the gates, bearing the name Remington. Her family mansion now looked like a palace fit for a queen, and Samantha was certainly acting like a queen, as she stood outside, hands folded across her chest as she awaited Ivory.“Always
Lucien’s words felt like a harsh wake up call, that despite everything happening, Ivory had tried avoiding.Indeed, it was about time that she stopped playing house and having expectations for people who were never going to fulfill them.Gadreel, despite the years she had sacrificed and nursed him back to health, wasn’t going to reciprocate her feelings. It was a painful reality, but she had to come to terms with it and now, it was time for her to focus on the things that mattered the most, her company.Elixiron, as she had named it after the Elixir of life, was a Pharmaceutical company she had created from scratch. During her teen years, she had come down with an infection and her family, scared that they were going to get infected, shipped her off.But Ivory knew that was just an excuse to get her away, because as soon as she arrived in the small town Samantha had convinced her father to send her to, she was placed in foster care and abandoned. Her years at her foster home felt like
Turning, he began walking in the direction of his car, intent of catching up with the car Ivory had just left in and getting much deserved answers. But before he could reach his car, Evangeline’s voice reached his ears.“Reel, are you leaving?” She had rushed out of the house after him and had witnessed his glaring contest with the car.Now that she saw him leaving, obviously about to chase after Ivory, she began to panic.“I have something to attend to, Eva. Get back inside the house and stay with your parents.” He instructed, not even glancing her way. This fueled Evangeline’s panic even more and as a last resort, she turned to the only thing she was sure would work on Gadreel.“Ah,” Grabbing her chest, she feigned hurt, pretending like her heart had began acting up again. “It hurts…I can’t breathe.”The act worked perfectly, having Gadreel turning around immediately and rushing to her side.“Eva,” His brows were furrowed, worry written all over his face. “Are you okay? What happene
Monday rolled about quicker than even Ivory could have imagined. She had spent the whole weekend in preparation and looking through the company files, getting familiar with all the important stuff she needed to know.Lucien had kept her company for the major part of her preparation, which was a relief. And with her being so busy, she barely had time to think of Gadreel or her family's nonsense. That morning, she woke up at 5, took a shower and dressed up.Wearing a tight, long sleeve black turtleneck with a white coat draped over her shoulders and paired with a pencil skirt and heels, Ivory was ready to make most of her first day in the office. As she stepped out of her room, Emma spotted her and threw a compliment her way."Looking good, Ivy. You going somewhere?"Ivory responded with a hum as she stuffed her mouth with the scrambled eggs Emma had prepared."Work," She answered verbally just as her phone dinged with a message from Lucien, leaving no extra room for Emma to question he
"What did you say?" In the office, Gadriel looked at the trembling life assistant. Just now, his assistant told him that the private detective they sent had had a finger cut off, and the private detective also brought back a message."Gardiel, your ownership of the ivory has expired. Otherwise, I would be happy to make you lose all your chips at the card table."Gadriel clenched his fist. Who is Ivory? She is the unloved eldest daughter of the Remington family. She is illiterate and was forced to drop out of school because of her foolishness in failing the final exam. However, when he was about to investigate her, he discovered that the man behind her was incredibly powerful.Who would fall in love with a woman as dull as Ivory?Just then, his work assistant walked in."Sir, our latest sales survey report for this year is now available," Ezikiel announced as he entered the room."Very well," Gadriel replied, and then dismissed the life assistant. He now had to focus on Ivan's surgery.
Ivory nearly snatched the tablet from Camilla’s hands. With a single glance at the content, it was clear that Ødexa had indeed intercepted their recent collaboration.Although the deal hasn’t been finalized, it was clear from the picture of a representative of Heinrich Cooperation and one of Ødexa, shaking hands, that Heinrich Cooperation was considering partnering with Ødexa. And she knew this was Gadreel’s doing. But why, she couldn’t place her mind on.Was this just another business move of his? Or was this a payback for the fact that she had refused the acquisition? Or…was it because he had discovered her identity? Her dream flashed in her mind once again and Ivory felt a sense of paranoia begin to creep up.She was brought out of her thoughts by Camilla.“Boss, what should we do?”Ivory shook her head and sighed. “I’ll handle this,” She muttered and handed the tablet back. “Go on and carry out the rest of your tasks. I’ll inform you once the situation has been resolved."“Yes, bo
The surgery had taken more of a toll on Ivory than she had expected. Coupled with the event that has happened earlier, she was exhausted. The moment she got back home, she sank into the comfort of her bed, not bothering to take a well needed shower, and was asleep in an instant. The moment she closed her eyes, she opened them to find herself in a place she never thought her mind would bring her back to.The Garden in her very first family house. In front of her was a younger version of herself, crying after she had fallen down and scrapped her knee and in front of that younger version, trying to comfort her, was a young version of Gadreel.‘Ah, I remember this day.’ Ivory thought with a frown, yet her eyes softened as she watched the memory play out.It had been a little while after she and Gadreel had become friends. His mother has come over to visit hers and while the adults talked, Ivory and Gadreel went to play in the Garden. The happened to encounter a cat and she tried chasing a
The surgery lasted a total of 5 hours, but at last, the affected Valves in Evangeline’s heart had been repaired and her condition stabilized.Looking down at her first successful surgery in years, Ivory knew she should have felt pride and joy, but at this moment, the only thing she felt was a tinge of regret.Perhaps she should have left Evangeline to die. All the pain and suffering she had been through in life was all because of Evangeline. Then, wouldn’t that mean that if she had died, everything would have gone back to the way it has been before she and her mother came along? No, Ivory shook the thought off. Nothing can ever be the same, even if Evangeline were to die.“Good Job, V.” Kael, clasping her shoulder, praised.Ivory offered him a half hearted and tired smile. “Yeah, you too.” She glanced back at Evangeline for a few seconds before speaking again. “I’m gonna head out now…”Kael nodded. “Sure, you go on ahead, I’ll reach out to you once everything’s wrapped up here.”Ivory
Gadreel frowned at the doctor’s words. Taking a step forward, he seemed to totally forget about the conversation he was having with Ivory.“What do you mean by that? Earlier, you said she was stable, so why is she suddenly in danger?” He questioned.“Ms. Remington was indeed stable, but her heart suffered a sudden attack and for someone who suffers from a heart condition like Coronary Artery Disease, this could be fatal. That’s why I urge, the sooner we operate on her, the better.”Coronary Artery Disease? Ivory couldn’t help but frown at the doctor’s diagnosis.Evangeline doesn’t suffer from CAD, as most call it, but rather...“What she suffers from is Ischemic Heart Disease, IHD. It’s easily mistaken for CAD, but unlike CAD, it’s not caused by the build-up of plaque, but a sudden shortage of blood flow, due to an occluded vessel or narrowing.” Her words gained the attention of both men.“The best course of action in this case would be to-“ Before she could finish her diagnosis, Ivor
Ivory was rooted in place with her eyes wide. That…that unmistakably, was the sound of a gunshot. Did that mean someone had gotten shot? The thought sent a sick feeling down her spine.“Ivy,” Cameron suddenly tugged her along, pulling her out of her trance like state. “We need to get out of here.”He pulled her behind him and began leading her away from their current location in hopes that he could get them far away from whoever had the gun.Ivory on the other hand, although she knew this was the rational thing to do, couldn’t help her doctor side that kicked in.“Wait,” She said, pulling to a stop and earning a frown from Cameron. “We can’t just leave like this. What if…what if someone needs our help?”Cameron’s frown increased and he grabbed her hand again. “If we don’t stay out of the way, we would be the ones in need of help.”He began dragging her away, but Ivory resisted, not budging an inch.“You can’t possibly be serious.” He muttered and shook his head. After a few seconds of
“Let me take you home.” Cameron has said and at that point in time, it both sounded and looked like a bad idea. But did Ivory really have an option? With her car broken down and all ride seemingly avoiding that area, or charging hefty sums, she was stuck. And so, after much debate, she finally caved in and accepted the ride, and that was how she ended up in the passenger seat of Cameron’s car.The ride had been going on smoothly, the silence between them comfortable in a way that no one rushed to break. But then, Cameron, being who he is, decided to speak up.“So, you were married to Gadreel?” He glanced at her, noticing how her temperament visibly changed at the mention of his best friend. “I’m still having a hard time believing it.”“Well, believe it,” Ivory responded, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. “And drop it.”Cameron chuckled, but did not say a thing further, simply turning his attention back to the road, while Ivory shifted in her seat, crossing her legs, and looking out the
Asher could sense the tension in the air. Minutes after Ivory had walked out and Cameron had followed her, the rest of them, Evangeline and Gadreel included, had settled in one of Golden Hours private room. But even after the drinks had been served, not one word had been spoken. Gadreel looked lost in his own thought, while Evangeline looked like she had several things to ask.And Asher...well, after a few more minutes, he couldn't take it anymore.Sighing, he stood up and decided to give the little couple of their group, some space."I'll go grab... something." He excused himself and without a second glance, walked out.The silence after that did not last a second longer. Finally given their privacy, Evangeline spoke up."You've finalized the divorce with Ivory? Why didn't you tell me?" She turned her attention to Gadreel, expecting an instant answer. However, he kept his gaze fixed on the content in his glass, swirling it around in constant circles without saying a word.He heard Ev
“Twerp?!” Emma glared at Cameron, at that very moment, she was ready to jump at him and butt heads like they usually did back as kids.Much to her dismay, Cameron completely ignored her and solely focused on the more important person in front of him, Ivory. She too, seemed to ignore Emma angry crying and for a split second, all she did was stare at Cameron, still a bit frazzled from the sudden loss of distance between their faces. Her trance like state was broken when Cameron smirked, pleased that his presence was having an effect on her.“So, which is it?” He asked.Ivory adjusted, putting distance between them once again, and turned away.“Are you normally annoying, or is this an exception because you’re what…” She paused and eyed him, making sure that he could tell she had called bull on his earlier words. “Pursing me? Which is it?”Cameron chuckled, amused. It wasn’t everyday he met a lady who wasn’t impressed by his charm and looks.“Perhaps both,” he answered, and although Ivory
Once again, the room exploded in whispers, shareholders present exchanged looks and stares of disbelief and horror.“Arrest?!” Tom shouted, as his face twisted in anger.“You’re going to arrest me? That’s absurd. Who’s the one who filed the charge?”He looked at everyone, but no one seemed keen on answering.“It was I.” Ivory answered with a sweet smile. “Me, Ms. Remington.”She stepped forward and flashed a smile at him. “I’ve recorded everything, from your insult, to the accusation you’ve thrown at me. Everything, and now,”She leaned back, arms crossed, and her smile became more mischievous.“You can rot in jail for slandering a person’s name and insulting her.”Tom’s eyes widened and his face turned beet red. “You!” He snarled. “You bitch-“Before he could finish, the law enforcement officers grabbed his arms and pulled him away.“Let go of me! Don’t touch me, you fools.”Ivory watched the scene before her with a small smile. This was just the beginning, there was a long road ahea
