CHAPTER 95"You can go in now, ma'am," the receptionist said to Jane who smiled at her and then stared towards Marcus's office door. She remembered the last time she had shown up at his office, unannounced, and how her life had taken a rougher turn after she caught him and Abigail together in his office. She quickly brushed the thought aside and took in a deep breath as she reached his door and knocked."Come in," Marcus said and Jane did so.The office was just as she had remembered, the only difference being the desk that had been changed. But she also noticed that Marcus's tie was resting on his table and two of his buttons were undone."I almost thought you'd never agree to see me," Marcus started before she could say a word."I'm not here to see you, Marcus. Well, not in the way that you think.""Interesting," Marcus smirked and swivelled in his chair. "Then I guess you're here to explain why you haven't been replying my texts.""I blocked you, I think that explains it all. Liste
CHAPTER 96"And you think coming here all by yourself was the best decision?" Caleb asked with a loud voice as they passed the parking lot to the car waiting for them."I had it under control!" Jane replied but suddenly regretted the words once they came out.Caleb turned to face her fully."That? That was your control?" He asked, pointing back at the building. "Who knows what he could've done to you if I didn't show up! Jane, what were you even thinking?!" Jane huffed and rolled her eyes."I only wanted to warn him to stop sending me the gifts.""And you didn't think it was better to let me know so I can handle it?""I wanted to sort it out peacefully."Caleb shook his head and opened the door for her to get in. Jane noticed the driver looking at her quizzically and then sighed when Caleb came in through the other door."My car," she said to him."The driver will get it back home," Caleb replied without looking at her. They were silent for a while as the car swerved into the road."
CHAPTER 97The doctor, Addison Greene, was already seated in their plush living room when he walked in. Rose and Bianca were standing around her watching as she laid Jeffery across her lap with a thermometer beneath his armpit."Oh, Caleb! Good thing you're back!" Bianca went to meet him. "How bad is the situation?" Caleb asked flatly, ignoring her hands that were outstretched to take his suit off. That was not her role to play."Doctor Greene says it's nothing too serious, just a mild fever. Jeff baby will be fine in a day or two."Caleb started towards the doctor who smiled respectfully at him."A mild fever, huh?" He asked, looking down at Jeffery who happened to be asleep."Yes, Mr Lockwood. But I did take samples of the milk that Miss Bianca here talked about.""And?"The doctor inhaled before continuing. "The results were a little disturbing.""Disturbing? What's wrong with it?" Caleb asked, looking at all of them and frowning when they were silent for a while."Shes been waiti
CHAPTER 98The water from the shower was refreshingly warm as Jane turned it on. She sighed and raised her face to let the water trickle down her scalp before reaching out to grab the soap. She was done in a few minutes and wrapped a towel around her body but it was extremely thick and heavy so she took it off and folded it properly before putting on the clothes she had worn the previous night. She smoothened her dress the best way she could and flipped her wet hair up in a ponytail, hoping to blow-dry it when she reached home. She picked up her phone and smiled when she saw a text from Brian already waiting for her.> Happy morning, Jane. How bad is the hangover? Text me when you get this. She swiped on the message to reply but was interrupted by another buzzing and Caleb's name flashed across the screen. Her smile slowly faded.> I'm so sorry about yesterday, Jane, I shouldn't have said that to you. You're not to be blamed for what happened and I apologize for my outburst. Can we t
CHAPTER 99Jane was standing with her arms folded when Caleb walked into the bedroom."What was Bianca talking about?" She asked when she noticed his presence."Jane, I don't want you to bother about Bianca, okay? Just rest a little."Jane closed up the space between them, looking intently into his eyes. "What was she talking about, Caleb?"Knowing she wouldn't stop asking, he sighed and replied. "Well, er, the doctor came to check Jeffery as we had arranged and she also took samples of his milk since Bianca complained about it.""What does that have to do with me?" Jane asked with a frown."It has nothing to do with you, Jane, and that's why I don't want you to bother about it," Caleb stretched out his hand and held her arms. He gave her a reassuring look but Jane did not seem convinced."She said I wanted to poison Jeffery. What was that about? And what chemical is she talking about?"Caleb sighed and shook his head, mildly frustrated by her persistence."Jane we'll talk about it la
CHAPTER 100Xavier was again at his usual spot in the restaurant with one hand stroking his chin, intently watching the people who entered and exited the restaurant. An untouched glass of beer next to a plate of beefsteak was placed on the table and he absentmindedly fingered the fork on his plate. When his expected visistor finally walked through the doors, he sighed with anticipation and took a sip of his beer. The man swept his eyes across the restaurant, as if search for someone, so Xavier raised his glass above his head to get his attention. He noticed how the man stiffened and gulped when he saw him before starting hesitantly towards the booth."You wanted to see me, sir?" He asked shakily."I did. But you don't look as delighted as I am to see you."The man let out a nervous laugh and fidgeted with his fingers. "Well, er, I was a little nervous when you insisted to see me so...""Some things, my friend, are never discussed over the phone," Xavier replied in his deep baritone."
CHAPTER 101Caleb was putting on his second cufflink when he heard Jane suddenly jerk up from the bed with a gasp. He turned to her and smiled. Her morning look– dishevelled hair, slightly drowsy eyes and dazed expression– was enough to arouse him again. His eyes unconsciously lowered to her lip, red and plump that was around him just hours ago. He shook his head to clear his thoughts before walking towards the bed."Morning, love.""You're dressed!" Jane said with surprise."I get the feeling you want to undress me," Caleb smirked, kneeling on the bed and crawling towards her.Jane scrunched up her nose, as if disgusted."No, I don't. Jeez! Did I oversleep again?""I told you, you tend to do that whenever you sleep in my arms." Jane rolled her eyes but did not stop him when he planted a kiss on her forehead."You should've woken me up as well," Jane whined."You looked too beautiful in your sleep. Besides, I have a meeting at eight with a new investor, thanks to you," he added with
CHAPTER 102Marcus stood above his bathroom sink, staring at his reflection in the mirror with a scowl on his face. The bridge of his nose seemed inflated and it had began to hurt him badly. The bathroom door opened and Abigail walked in, surprised to see him up at such early hour."What's the matter?" She asked as she walked up to him."I can't sleep and this fucking nose won't stop hurting," his scowl deepened."How come?" Abigail asked and turned his body to face her. "It's been almost a week, you said it'll heal in days," Marcus said and winced when she touched his nose."I said it's supposed to heal in days, Marcus, there's a difference. Hold on," she left the bathroom and returned a few seconds later with a napkin.Marcus folded his arms and watched as she wet the napkin under running water and then brought it up to his nose."Careful," he said and she nodded.Abigail began to wipe his nose gently and clean the bruise on his upper jaw as well. Seeing that he was shirtless, she
