ALAINA

*ONE WEEK LATER*

9:30 am.

I woke up like a mummified corpse from a casket. Pretty sure I looked like one, too. My lids felt pretty heavy as I barely got any sleep.

Today was my first ever live stream and the thought of it was etched in my head all night long! Even right now.

With a swift movement, I was up steady on my feet. I tried to ignore the glimpse of my bird nest of hair in the mirror and pushed myself into Lorraine's room. Today was D-Day!

The excitement pumped into my veins endlessly. I knocked once and let myself in. “Lorrie!” She was still coiled under her blanket like a fetus when I playfully yanked it off her. “Wake up, silly! It's timeee!”

She stealthily stood up, yawning and stretching. “The day you become famous!” She screeched, though her voice was groggy and she instantly shuffled out of bed.

I giggled because I didn't know whose hair looked worse. “It's a big day, my little celebrity.”

That could be farfetched. I scrunched my nose. “All I'm trying to do is make a living.”

Lorraine took my hands as I settled by the edge of her bed. “And you're going to be famous while doing so! What are you going to wear on your first day? We still have a few hours before you begin, right?”

I nodded, biting on my fingernail. “Come with me. I picked out a few dresses that might be perfect for today!” My cheeks already started to hurt from grinning too wide. We both ventured into my room.

Well, the room Lorraine had kindly let me stay in and I happily pointed to the dresses in question. “These bad boys!”

“More like grandpas.” Lorraine cocked a brow as she eyed the dresses, crucially examining them one after the other. “Are you planning to cosplay a nun, Allie?”

“A nun?” I echoed, already knowing where this conversation was leading. I snatched one of the dresses from her and held it over my body. “This is one of the best dresses I've got…” I examined it myself again. “And it has pockets!”

“The whole dress itself is one massive pocket.” Lorraine rolled her eyes, scanning my wardrobe already. “You're going to be a worldwide superstar streamer, not a widow, okay?” She turned to me and hissed. “This won't do.”

Before I could protest, I was hauled back into Lorraine's room with a wide array of dresses sprawled over her bed.

“These are better options. Are there any you might like?”

I picked up one of the dresses. “Is this supposed to be a top?”

“No, silly! It's a dress!”

I picked up another. “Why's this so revealing?”

“Because…that's the appeal.” She turned around and picked out one that finally caught my eyes, though I felt it shouldn't. It was black tube dress with sequined edges, not to mention it was a body con and would have my curves on display. “This. This would be perfect for you, Allie.”

I squirmed, taking the dress from her. “But…it's so…”

“Shhh.” Lorraine placed her index finger on her lips. “No buts. It's lovely. Don't you think you need something eye-catching for a start?”

Lorraine was right, but I was skeptical about it. I hadn't worn a dress like this in years, not even for Logan. Suddenly, I was contemplating doing it for the cameras? I winced, unable to decide.

“And I know what you might be thinking,” Lorraine quickly added, snapping me out of my reverie. She handed me a small carton box. “Which is why I prepared this in advance.”

I took the box from her, awed without even knowing what it contained. As I opened it, a Venetian red mask with an alluring side feather came into play. My mouth fell open in awe as I reveled in its beauty.

“Lorraine…”

“Don't you dare go all mushy on me,” She patted my shoulder. “What do you think? Pretty, right?”

My lips curled as my heart swelled with joy. “It's perfect. Just perfect. Thank you so much!”

“Let's get this started!”

“Yay!”

“Wait a second. Today's stream is about cooking, right?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Do you have everything ready?”

Uh. Oh. I grinned sheepishly. “I forgot the…ingredients…”

“Alaina!”

***

I sighed as I pushed my cart down the aisle, taking basic essentials from the shelves rows and whistling a tune.

Glancing at my phone,a strained gasp spilled from my mouth! I was way dangerously behind on time. I couldn't afford to make a mess of my first day, not with Lorraine on standby.

As I rushed to grab the essentials, I realized I'd forgotten the most crucial ingredient: chicken! "Chicken!" I exclaimed, slapping my forehead. Who makes chicken curry without chicken?!

I got off that aisle. My path was blocked by a cart overflowing with groceries. It was parked horizontally, as if left there on purpose, and the owner was just a few steps away— a hooded figure that backed me, and could be a male, judging from the height.

“Excuse me. Could you move your cart?” I called out slowly, as calmly as I could. I was in a haste.

“Nobody would want that sweetheart, that's stupid…” The individual called out without bothering to look back at me. He was perusing a can of cat food, and the hoodie he had on did so much to hide his face.

I squinted. Something about their voice seemed distinctly familiar. My patience was wearing thin but this wasn't a day to waste energy on rude strangers.

Why did I have to deal with other bastards like Logan? “What the hell? Move your cart out of the way!”

“Please, do not burst my eardrums! You're way too much to deal with-”

“Move, you cocky little bottom feeder!” I pushed their cart with mine and watched it skedaddle in a graceless tumble to the other side of the aisle.

Good grievance!

I pushed past them and stomped as hard as I could just to get on their nerves as much as they did mine.

As I pushed past the figure, our shoulders collided, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body. It was almost stifling, none unlike anything I'd felt before and it forced me to stop in my tracks.

“What the-” The hooded figure slowly removed their airpods, revealing a pair of piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into my soul. My heart raced as I took in the chiseled features and strong jawline.

And then, it hit me - the realization that I was staring into the face of Alpha Alexander, my ex-husband's best friend and a constant thorn in my side.

“Allie?” A smirk grew on his face as his husky voice called out.

I froze.

*FLASHBACK* Alaina, Alpha Alexander wants you to clean up his room,” The head maid said to me as though she'd been dying to have the words drop and my heart leaped to my heart. I blinked repeatedly, my grip around the broom I was holding tightening as I looked up at her to ask, “Me?” “Do I need to tell you this in sign language?” She hissed. I knew any more defiance would cause a strike to my face so I retreated, skittering away from her and her fiery eyes as it replayed over and over again in my head that the Alpha wanted me to clean his room. Again! When does the torture end? I sighed, trying to embody the pain that gnawed my chest as I daintily made my way through the large, dark corridors, hoping I would bump into either him or Esmeralda. I wasn't even his personal maid so why was he being so cruel to me? Arriving at the door, I sucked my breath and lifted my hands to know. My knuckles rattled on the door, once but was met with silence. Today might be my lucky day. If

ALEXANDERThe laptop folded back into place after a gentle tap and the borders in my mind finally crashed down, resisting conformity. Now, I had to face it.I had to face my feelings. No one should think this way of a woman married to one's Beta and best friend, but I could help it, could I? Alaina. I tasted her name on my tongue and my mind relentlessly worked up vivid pictures of her.I see her in everything. “Oh shit!” This was exactly why I hadn't bothered to reach out, or even go to the wedding that second I witnessed Logan's proposal to her. That day was my hell, my personal unbecoming and I lost air, lost grasp of time when she jumped into his arms and accepted to be his bride. My confession might as well go to hell. Now, I'd see her again and those feelings, the ones I thought I'd successfully grown out of, were just buried. Her eyes were as vibrant as ever, the liveliest of greens with a kick of darkness in them, like she could pierce one's soul, and when she looked up at me

ALAINA “Do you think Mr Pigsty would be watching today?” Lorraine cooed from behind me and I averted my gaze from the mirror, sparing her a quick glance before carefully placing the mascara back on the ceramic table. “Way to conclude they're a man,” I rolled my eyes, patting her hair before absentmindedly running a brush through it again. It couldn't possibly be a man, right? Though it might be, it shouldn't mean anything but chivalry. They were just nice enough to have gifted me that. And it was no big deal. Right? The corner of Lorraine's lips pulled upward in a smile and mischief reflected in her eyes. “Isn't that much obvious? Would you rather it's a woman then? I fear there's no fun in that.” My eyes flicked to the ticking clock on the wall, right above the borders of the window. I had ten minutes to be live. I smacked my lips, squinting a little. “What do you mean would I rather it's a woman? It's not different to me. Whoever they are, I'm just grateful for them an

ALAINA What the hell? Gulping hard, I pulled closer to the laptop to see the digit and it stared right back at me. One zero. Then two zeros. Then three. Then- My eyes were heavy from being widened for too long and I tried to yell Lorraine's name, but the term, ‘cat got your tongue?’ had never been truer for me. Everything I wanted to say, or could say turned into dust in my headspace, and dollar notes might as well be ingrained in my pupils. “Pig…sty?” I called out absentmindedly though I was already off my channel. Was this…some kind of scheme? Was I going to get kidnapped soon? Trafficked!? I propped to my feet and yanked off the apron, spinning out of the room and in the direction of Lorraine's. She might have answers! That was a lot of money. TOO MUCH MONEY. Mr Anonymous had done it again and what the hell had I done to deserve eight fucking thousand bucks from someone who knew nothing about me? As much as I wanted to enjoy the moment, the terror had started to

The chill air surrounded me as I stepped into the lobby, my eyes scanned the area for Logan or Esmeralda. I'd left this division in his care a while ago, and because he'd already rejected Esmeralda, I didn't see a reason why their working together could be a problem.Until yesterday when I was informed that she was carrying his child! What madness was that? The receptionist leapt to her feet at the sight of me and her smile started to falter at the edges.“G-Good day, Alpha Alex-xander,” She stuttered, staring like she'd seen a ghost. Usually, the entirety of the staff was informed whenever I planned to visit.I'd never once made an impromptu appearance like this one, and if a secretary could react this way, I wonder what expressions I'd be reading off Logan. With a curt nod, I stepped into the elevator and found my way up to Logan's office. The hallway was quiet, unusually quiet for a manufacturing branch and one could almost hear a pin drop. I flicked my eyes to either side of the

The frustration was enough to turn my hair into spikes and I might just disappear into thin air at any moment. The realization glared at me in the eyes. I NEEDED TO FIND A JOB! “Why did you have to say that!?” I groaned, grabbing my face and patting little slaps to my lips since no one would do it for me.I ran my fingers through my hair as I remembered my conversation with the Pack's radio. It was nearly time for the Pack's monthly moonlight meeting, a feast for the elderlies, and undoubtedly, I'd be a trending topic!Ugh! That vain old woman. I was quite sure the moon goddess didn't want her quite yet, that was why she still roamed the corners of…. like a vengeful ghost! But that wasn't the point, was it?! I was the one

ALAINA“Do you…want to find out?”First I thought I was hearing things, but it dawned on me that it wasn't a figment of my imagination when I spun around only to find the bane of my existence leaning against the door frame with a sardonic smirk blessing his amused expression. My mouth fell open and gradually his scent filled the entire room. “A-Alph..”I hadn't heard the door make any sound and one question, what was he doing here? I staggered back as the shock shot through me and somehow landed back on the chair, slamming my ass against it and boy did it hurt?Alpha Alexander seemed to be enjoying every single second of watching me turn into water. Jeez! What had I done? He trudged in, tucking his arms in his pockets. There was no form of lividness in his demeanor and I didn't know what scared me more. Alaina laughed. “You're not only a bul

I took a deep breath, my fingers interlocked with Lorraine's as I walked out. It felt as though with every step I took, my heart beat even faster. As we approached the grand staircase, I saw a well-dressed Damon patiently waiting for me, and my heart began to race. The anticipation of the ball weighed heavily on me, and a sense of unease gnawed at my insides. Damon bowed respectfully the moment we got to where he stood. "Luna," he murmured. "The Alpha instructed me to lead you to the banquet hall, where the ball will take place." “I don't know, Damon. Are you the one to come pick me up? Shouldn't you be with Alexander? You are his best man for today, remember?” I asked, managing a smile, even though there was not a reason to. “Yes,” he mouthed. “The best man of the groom is meant to bring his wife to the ball.” I replied with a nervous "Okay," and slipped my hand into the waiting crook of his elbow. Then I allowed him to guide me down the stairs. His firm, comforting presence wa

ALAINA In the large pack's living room, I gazed at Lorraine who made a gesture with her hand. On second thought, I turned to look at the man I am in love with - my husband-to-be, Alexander as he was on his feet, walking towards the door of a room not so far from the spot. After a few days since Alexander popped the question, he believed in his heart that it would make some sense to see his mother - the old Luna who lives in his pack. Ever since then, I have thought about nothing but being accepted, or rejected. “Nothing is happening, girl,” Lorraine called out to me, who woke up from my thoughts. “You are too good to be rejected, or don't you know?” “I don't know, Lorraine—” I mouthed. “I was an Omega Wolf the last time I checked. Why won't I be rejected? I want to know why. That the man I love accepted me does not mean the other members of his pack and family will not reject me.” Just then, a door opened. I jumped to my feet, and so did Lorraine. What should I say?

ALEXANDER I hopped in the car after several thoughts, making up my mind on what to do this time around. There was no way I would lose a good, better and at the same time best woman because of this—nonsense! I heaved a sigh and started the engine, driving out of the compound the very next moment. Into the streets of the city, I went. Although my car did not look like it had issues, I believe it did and this was none other reason than the fact that it was slow. Slower than ever. “Don't fuck me up!” I yelled, stopping my drive and heaving a sigh - catching my breath and starting all over after muttering a prayer that the moment and uncalled meeting with Alaina would go perfectly well. What if she doesn't want me any longer? What if this was the end of everything for us both? I wondered with a grimace planted on my countenance, realizing also that I had caught up with the estate that has her house built in it. Soon enough, I was at her gate. How do I get in? I wondered

ALEXANDERIt stuck to my brain. Alaina's face was red with humiliation as she turned and ran into the packhouse, disappearing from view. “Is this all you've finally become?” I snarled at my mother. Is this it?”The camera flashes were enough to blind one. It was that level of crazy! This would hit headlines and news houses in seconds.“No!” She tried to reach for me and held my hand. “You don't understand! This…is insane! That woman has bewitched you!”“Luna…” Damon called out to her. “I think it's best you go in for now. This isn't the best time to be out here, if you know what I'm saying…”“No, I don't know what you're saying!” She snapped at him. “My son is trying to gamble his life and the destiny of the entire pack away and all you are about is all I say? If this happens, it affects you too! Your sister is perfect for him. Why wouldn't he just see that?”“Take her in,” I ordered Damon. I knew what to do. I might as well fuck everything up for everyone. ALAINA“Alaina?” A voice echoed from behind us, and the familiar tone of that voice sent dread all the way to my stomach. I could feel my heart thrumming in my chest as my eyes drifted from Alexander. The Luna? I turned around slowly, and saw her standing there with obvious disapproval on her face, and scorn as she stared at me. “You're a streamer?" she spat, as if the word itself was dirty.Of course it was. To her the word was just as filthy as I was. Even the way she looked at me made me feel so small. Her hatred for me gleamed in those eyes of hers as her gaze shot from Alexander to me. “Answer me. Is everything I just heard true?”I nodded, feeling a defensive flush rise to my cheeks, “But I can explain. It's not—”“It’s not what,” she cut me off, her voice rising in indignation. "I don't care what it is, but just the fact that you're parading yourself online, and flaunting yourself for who-knows-how-many strangers to see! It's shameful. I wished they would just stop already. I adjusted in my seat, trying to keep my calm and get through today as it was expected of me but even that was becoming more and more difficult by the moment. I didn't want to be here. Neither did I have any interest in any of these women here, and normally that wouldn't matter. But it did. It did. I couldn't stop the restlessness inside of me, I couldn't stop wanting to get out of this hall, and escape all these women that were nothing like her. It was upsetting.
