ALAINA

Another bang! Another hit!

I just couldn't get enough today, could I?

Fear made me trip over my feet as I rushed in the direction of the door. My mother-in-law was known for her lack of patience but this was very different, more aggressive and malicious and I knew seeing her would birth nothing but trouble.

This was Logan's family house and I'd lived with her from day one of our marriage. I knew a lot of calamity was about to go down.

I raced to the door with my heart in my mouth, scared to shit of what manners of insult those few minutes of stalling would earn me, but to my utmost surprise when I unlocked and pulled the door open my mother-in-law wasn't the only person standing there.

Esmeralda?!

My mouth fell open, forming a faltering ‘o’ and my chest ached like it was being squeezed by a pair of ice-cold arms. Why was she here?!

Who brought her here?

What-

“Took you long enough!” My mother-in-law hissed as she snatched the door handle from me and pushed past me without considering how hard the door hit my arm.

I winced, utterly perplexed but turning sharply as she ushered Esmeralda in. My brows pinched together and my face contorted in confusion as my mother-in-law walked in the very bane of my existence right from the moment I stepped into this pack.

Esmeralda was the Alpha's sister, and Logan's mate.

His fated mate!

But he didn't love her. He chose me as his fated mate at the mating ceremony even after finding she was his fated one. He rejected her. He rejected Esmeralda, our Alpha's sister but chose me! A low-rank omega as his mate!

Wasn't that the most solid proof of his love for me?

She was beautiful, with fair hair and blue eyes that could pierce into one's soul. Every time she stared at me with her blue eyes, I thought I was a sinner for taking away her mate.

I was also curious sometimes. But as it was due to love, I didn't bother thinking about it over and over.

Now I had no idea what was going on and I was trying hard enough to collect my thoughts in order to ask the right questions. I looked teary, with puffy eyes, and clad in a miserly-looking robe. This shouldn't be how Esmeralda should have met me!

“What…”

“Where's he? Can I see him now? You know it's important that he takes care of this, Mother,” She cooed, giving all of her attention to my mother-in-law as though my presence in the room was that insignificant.

It suddenly felt like I couldn't comprehend words anymore and my heart was beating way too fast. “Excuse me? Mother? What do you mean and why are you here, Esmeralda?”

I talked to Esmeralda but looked at my mother-in-law suspiciously and unbelievably.

“He'll be in his room for sure, sweetheart,” My mother in law responded to her but ignored me. Neither of them seemed to be interested in responding to my question.

Esmeralda cast her gaze on me, her lips peeling into a sick smirk before she attempted to push past me but I was quick grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Where do you think you're headed to!?”

She jerked her arm away from my grip and stepped back, her expression mean and condescending. I hated how taller she was. “Who said you could touch me?” She asked softly, the silence was just a build-up to more tension. “How dare you lay those cursed hands on me, Omega? Do you want to know death?”

“Bullshit,” I scoffed.

“What. Did. You. Just. Say?”

I stood my ground, unwilling to be shaken up by the fact that she was basically royalty. Her brother was enough force to contend with and I'd spent half my life getting bullied by them. “You're trespassing! Tell me what you want or I'll have you thrown out this instant! WHY THE HELL ARE YOU IN MY HOUSE!”

“You insolent thing!” That came from my mother-in-law who grabbed me and pulled me away from Esmeralda. “How dare you-”

“No, no…” Esmeralda chuckled lightly with her hand over her mouth. She waved a dismissive hand at my mother-in-law who looked like she was ready to rip me to shreds. “I'll handle this, mother.”

She called my mother-in-law ‘Mother’ again! My eyes widened and I turned to see if Logan was in the room yet.

I knew he and Esmeralda worked in the same division in the company owned by Alpha Alexander, but this disrespect was way too much for work-related issues. It took all of my willpower not to throw a smack across her pretty little face!

I played that I didn’t hear what she just said and queried her as I’m the hostess. “Tell me whatever you want and I'll relay it to my husband.”

Esmeralda burst into a stifling peal of laughter and the hint of humor in her eyes caused me to shrink a little more into myself. “Husband, uh? I guess…” She leaned closer. “You don't know yet, do you?”

Know-

“Know what?” I hated how small and strained my voice came out. I clenched my fists to keep from trembling.

“Esme?!”

I released a breath I didn't know I'd been holding and both our heads shot in the direction of the room his voice came from. Logan was standing there with a glass of water as he stared at both of us in horror.

The look on his face felt like a stab to my chest, and my thoughts were running wild. But I trust him. I trust Logan! This. This has to be something else.

“Your coworker seems to have something to say, and she's sure doing it dramatically!” I forced the words out as I turned on my heels to meet Logan in the middle of the large living room as he rushed over with concern etched on his face.

But it wasn't for me. He wasn't rushing to meet me.

My husband slipped right beside me and hurried towards Esmeralda with his arms wide open. “Esme! I told you I was going to handle it! Why'd you come?”

Someone, shoot me. Right. Now.

Now!

My feet remained glued to the ground as I watched him nuzzle and hug her so tightly. He never did that with me!

He just-

No. No. This wasn't happening! “Logan…” I muttered his name. I suddenly couldn't find my voice. Regardless, he didn't look back at me.

“Little Logan missed you. I couldn't wait anymore!” She groaned, patting a kiss to his chin while my mother-in-law giggled dramatically, her sinister laugh tearing through my headspace.

The room had already started to spin and I couldn't even feel my own skin. Little Logan?? What were they talking about??

Esmeralda smiled at me and waddled closer. I could tell that Logan tried to hold her back, to stop her from moving towards me.

He wasn't holding me, or next to me!

Like she fed off the terror mercilessly swirling inside of me, Esmeralda reached into her purse and forced a folded sheet of paper into my quivering hand. “This should help you understand.”

I roughly unfolded the paper and scanned the contents of it. There and then, I felt my heart crack open!

My hands wouldn't stop shaking and my tears were falling fast, dabbing over the piece of paper that Esmeralda immediately snatched from me.

“P-pregnant?” I mindlessly stuttered, looking up at her through the shameful tears that easily gathered in my eyes, clouding my vision. “Y-you're—” I choked out. I couldn't breathe!

“I'm relieved that you can read,” She droned, rubbing her hand on her belly. “I'm pregnant, Allie.” Now she leaned against Logan. His eyes were dead cold, piercing into my soul. “For my mate, Logan. Did you really think you could fight destiny?”

“B-but…” I couldn't barely see a thing. Pain shot up to my chest. I felt it sink into my skin! I tasted the betrayal on my tongue, it was everywhere, blinding me! My body was no different from jelly. I turned to Logan. “This has to be a misunderstanding, right?”

I sought his eyes for a response. All I got was a blank stare, so cold that I felt it seem into my skin. “Y-you said- no, you love me! You're…my husband.”

“Don't call me that.” Logan winced, his expression conveying the heaviest of disgust. “I no longer want to be that.”

“What?” I echoed, my brows pinching together. I had begun to breathe through my mouth. “How could you…” ah! My words dissolved into sobs, cruelly racking from my throat. I was crumbling like a sandhill right before both of them. “HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT!? YOU LOVE ME, LOGAN! YOU LOVE ME!”

“Where's it, Mother?” His voice was ice cold, sharp at the edges as he darted his gaze to her.

Where's what?

“Right here!” She chimed. “I remembered to pick it up.” After which she immediately handed him a file in an envelope.

“Here!” Logan slapped the documents on the table before me with a loud bang that caused me to jump.

“Sign it. And leave!”

We had a good run.” “A good run?” I repeated, choking on the bile in my throat. “Is that what it was to you? A good run?! Really?” How was he so cruel!? Was this really him? The man I married…? I was breaking apart before him, getting smitten to death by the memories of the past few years. The laughter! The tears! But he remained unfazed. “How could you, Logan!?” Esmeralda continued to snicker, as she clung closer to his side, while my mother-in-law sat on the couch and gawked like my pain was a TV show. Logan sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “Don't make this any more complicated! I do not love you so sign the papers and leave!” “BUT YOU MARRIED ME!” I screeched from the depth of my throat as I picked up the file and waved it in his face! “You married me!” “Because I could!” “What…?” Logan scoffed, his eyes darkening as he clos

ALAINA*ONE WEEK LATER*9:30 am.I woke up like a mummified corpse from a casket. Pretty sure I looked like one, too. My lids felt pretty heavy as I barely got any sleep. Today was my first ever live stream and the thought of it was etched in my head all night long! Even right now. With a swift movement, I was up steady on my feet. I tried to ignore the glimpse of my bird nest of hair in the mirror and pushed myself into Lorraine's room. Today was D-Day!The excitement pumped into my veins endlessly. I knocked once and let myself in. “Lorrie!” She was still coiled under her blanket like a fetus when I playfully yanked it off her. “Wake up, silly! It's timeee!”She stealthily stood up, yawning and stretching. “The day you become famous!” She screeched, though her voice was groggy and she instantly shuffled out of bed. I giggled because I didn't know whose hair looked worse. “It's a big day, my little celebrity.”That could be farfetched. I scrunched my nose. “All I'm trying to do is

*FLASHBACK* Alaina, Alpha Alexander wants you to clean up his room,” The head maid said to me as though she'd been dying to have the words drop and my heart leaped to my heart. I blinked repeatedly, my grip around the broom I was holding tightening as I looked up at her to ask, “Me?” “Do I need to tell you this in sign language?” She hissed. I knew any more defiance would cause a strike to my face so I retreated, skittering away from her and her fiery eyes as it replayed over and over again in my head that the Alpha wanted me to clean his room. Again! When does the torture end? I sighed, trying to embody the pain that gnawed my chest as I daintily made my way through the large, dark corridors, hoping I would bump into either him or Esmeralda. I wasn't even his personal maid so why was he being so cruel to me? Arriving at the door, I sucked my breath and lifted my hands to know. My knuckles rattled on the door, once but was met with silence. Today might be my lucky day. If

ALEXANDERThe laptop folded back into place after a gentle tap and the borders in my mind finally crashed down, resisting conformity. Now, I had to face it.I had to face my feelings. No one should think this way of a woman married to one's Beta and best friend, but I could help it, could I? Alaina. I tasted her name on my tongue and my mind relentlessly worked up vivid pictures of her.I see her in everything. “Oh shit!” This was exactly why I hadn't bothered to reach out, or even go to the wedding that second I witnessed Logan's proposal to her. That day was my hell, my personal unbecoming and I lost air, lost grasp of time when she jumped into his arms and accepted to be his bride. My confession might as well go to hell. Now, I'd see her again and those feelings, the ones I thought I'd successfully grown out of, were just buried. Her eyes were as vibrant as ever, the liveliest of greens with a kick of darkness in them, like she could pierce one's soul, and when she looked up at me

ALAINA “Do you think Mr Pigsty would be watching today?” Lorraine cooed from behind me and I averted my gaze from the mirror, sparing her a quick glance before carefully placing the mascara back on the ceramic table. “Way to conclude they're a man,” I rolled my eyes, patting her hair before absentmindedly running a brush through it again. It couldn't possibly be a man, right? Though it might be, it shouldn't mean anything but chivalry. They were just nice enough to have gifted me that. And it was no big deal. Right? The corner of Lorraine's lips pulled upward in a smile and mischief reflected in her eyes. “Isn't that much obvious? Would you rather it's a woman then? I fear there's no fun in that.” My eyes flicked to the ticking clock on the wall, right above the borders of the window. I had ten minutes to be live. I smacked my lips, squinting a little. “What do you mean would I rather it's a woman? It's not different to me. Whoever they are, I'm just grateful for them an

ALAINA What the hell? Gulping hard, I pulled closer to the laptop to see the digit and it stared right back at me. One zero. Then two zeros. Then three. Then- My eyes were heavy from being widened for too long and I tried to yell Lorraine's name, but the term, ‘cat got your tongue?’ had never been truer for me. Everything I wanted to say, or could say turned into dust in my headspace, and dollar notes might as well be ingrained in my pupils. “Pig…sty?” I called out absentmindedly though I was already off my channel. Was this…some kind of scheme? Was I going to get kidnapped soon? Trafficked!? I propped to my feet and yanked off the apron, spinning out of the room and in the direction of Lorraine's. She might have answers! That was a lot of money. TOO MUCH MONEY. Mr Anonymous had done it again and what the hell had I done to deserve eight fucking thousand bucks from someone who knew nothing about me? As much as I wanted to enjoy the moment, the terror had started to

The chill air surrounded me as I stepped into the lobby, my eyes scanned the area for Logan or Esmeralda. I'd left this division in his care a while ago, and because he'd already rejected Esmeralda, I didn't see a reason why their working together could be a problem.Until yesterday when I was informed that she was carrying his child! What madness was that? The receptionist leapt to her feet at the sight of me and her smile started to falter at the edges.“G-Good day, Alpha Alex-xander,” She stuttered, staring like she'd seen a ghost. Usually, the entirety of the staff was informed whenever I planned to visit.I'd never once made an impromptu appearance like this one, and if a secretary could react this way, I wonder what expressions I'd be reading off Logan. With a curt nod, I stepped into the elevator and found my way up to Logan's office. The hallway was quiet, unusually quiet for a manufacturing branch and one could almost hear a pin drop. I took a deep breath, my fingers interlocked with Lorraine's as I walked out. It felt as though with every step I took, my heart beat even faster. As we approached the grand staircase, I saw a well-dressed Damon patiently waiting for me, and my heart began to race. The anticipation of the ball weighed heavily on me, and a sense of unease gnawed at my insides. Damon bowed respectfully the moment we got to where he stood. "Luna," he murmured. "The Alpha instructed me to lead you to the banquet hall, where the ball will take place." “I don't know, Damon. Are you the one to come pick me up? Shouldn't you be with Alexander? You are his best man for today, remember?” I asked, managing a smile, even though there was not a reason to. “Yes,” he mouthed. “The best man of the groom is meant to bring his wife to the ball.” I replied with a nervous "Okay," and slipped my hand into the waiting crook of his elbow. Then I allowed him to guide me down the stairs. His firm, comforting presence wa

ALAINA In the large pack's living room, I gazed at Lorraine who made a gesture with her hand. On second thought, I turned to look at the man I am in love with - my husband-to-be, Alexander as he was on his feet, walking towards the door of a room not so far from the spot. After a few days since Alexander popped the question, he believed in his heart that it would make some sense to see his mother - the old Luna who lives in his pack. Ever since then, I have thought about nothing but being accepted, or rejected. “Nothing is happening, girl,” Lorraine called out to me, who woke up from my thoughts. “You are too good to be rejected, or don't you know?” “I don't know, Lorraine—” I mouthed. “I was an Omega Wolf the last time I checked. Why won't I be rejected? I want to know why. That the man I love accepted me does not mean the other members of his pack and family will not reject me.” Just then, a door opened. I jumped to my feet, and so did Lorraine. What should I say?

ALEXANDER I hopped in the car after several thoughts, making up my mind on what to do this time around. There was no way I would lose a good, better and at the same time best woman because of this—nonsense! I heaved a sigh and started the engine, driving out of the compound the very next moment. Into the streets of the city, I went. Although my car did not look like it had issues, I believe it did and this was none other reason than the fact that it was slow. Slower than ever. “Don't fuck me up!” I yelled, stopping my drive and heaving a sigh - catching my breath and starting all over after muttering a prayer that the moment and uncalled meeting with Alaina would go perfectly well. What if she doesn't want me any longer? What if this was the end of everything for us both? I wondered with a grimace planted on my countenance, realizing also that I had caught up with the estate that has her house built in it. Soon enough, I was at her gate. How do I get in? I wondered

ALEXANDERIt stuck to my brain. Alaina's face was red with humiliation as she turned and ran into the packhouse, disappearing from view. “Is this all you've finally become?” I snarled at my mother. Is this it?”The camera flashes were enough to blind one. It was that level of crazy! This would hit headlines and news houses in seconds.“No!” She tried to reach for me and held my hand. “You don't understand! This…is insane! That woman has bewitched you!”“Luna…” Damon called out to her. “I think it's best you go in for now. This isn't the best time to be out here, if you know what I'm saying…”“No, I don't know what you're saying!” She snapped at him. “My son is trying to gamble his life and the destiny of the entire pack away and all you are about is all I say? If this happens, it affects you too! Your sister is perfect for him. Why wouldn't he just see that?”“Take her in,” I ordered Damon. I knew what to do. I might as well fuck everything up for everyone. I could feel my heart thrumming in my chest as my eyes drifted from Alexander. The Luna? I turned around slowly, and saw her standing there with obvious disapproval on her face, and scorn as she stared at me. “You're a streamer?" she spat, as if the word itself was dirty.Of course it was. To her the word was just as filthy as I was. Even the way she looked at me made me feel so small. Her hatred for me gleamed in those eyes of hers as her gaze shot from Alexander to me. “Answer me. Is everything I just heard true?”I nodded, feeling a defensive flush rise to my cheeks, “But I can explain. It's not—”“It’s not what,” she cut me off, her voice rising in indignation. I wished they would just stop already. I adjusted in my seat, trying to keep my calm and get through today as it was expected of me but even that was becoming more and more difficult by the moment. I didn't want to be here. Neither did I have any interest in any of these women here, and normally that wouldn't matter. But it did. It did. I couldn't stop the restlessness inside of me, I couldn't stop wanting to get out of this hall, and escape all these women that were nothing like her. It was upsetting.
