"Come back here! Where is the dessert I asked for?! And how many times have I told you that mother doesn't like her kiwis cut this way?! Are you going to be dumb forever?" Audrey, the first daughter-in-law of the Meyer family, yelled at the beautiful young lady who was multitasking as she served different dishes in front of different people at the same time and pace.

The hardworking lady had woken up at 4:00 am to get started in the kitchen, while preparing the different dishes that were eaten by each member of the Meyer family. And she had to make sure she served it fast and got back to work, which included fixing Aaron's school uniform for the day and whatever errand they all wanted her to do.

There were a variety of Fresh berries, Granola for crunch, Poached eggs on English muffins, Canadian bacon, smoked salmon, sautéed spinach and kale for general feeding, and on the other hand, for the saucy sisters, there were bagels with cream cheese, burrito, omelet, and baked buffalo wings.

"She is too dumb to make corrections. Always wrong," Ivy spat with derision, as she took her time to take the first bite of food into her mouth, so that she would scream a complaint at the top of her voice if she sensed any displeasure while eating the food. However, there was always nothing to say. The food was always perfectly made.

"I am so sorry. I will fix it right away," Zoe rushed to take the plate of kiwis immediately with the thought of making another one and replacing them. The irritated mother-in-law just held her lips without saying anything for the first time in a while, to also scold Zoe harshly.

Ivy slapped her hand aggressively as she was about to pick the plate of kiwis up, "Just get out! Has our wealth rubbed on your impoverished self so much that you want to waste food at any slightest chance?!" She rolled her eyes irritably, as she passed taunting remarks to the poor lady.

Without minding what Ivy had said to her since she was used to it, Zoe apologized instantly and quickly began to serve the final fruit toppings for breakfast as side dishes for everyone's plate. She paid extra attention to Irene's plate, who was her mother-in-law, so that she would not receive a deafening slap without warning for something she had no idea of.

"Where are my clothes? I cannot find them!" Aaron, the fourteen-year-old grandson of the house whined grumpily from the stairs where he was standing, with a huge frown etched visibly upon his face.

"I hung them on the door of your dressing room after ironing them this morning. Your shoes are placed carefully beside the bed too," Zoe answered immediately when she heard him, and rushed over to his usual sitting spot in the dining room to begin serving his food instantly.

"And my food?!" He demanded brusquely with a grumpy tone as he made his way down, and sauntered into the dining room where they were all sitting. The grand dining room of the opulent mansion stood as a piece of evidence of the great elegance and refined taste, and the perfect set of tables and chairs, blended in with the rustic vibe of the painting.

"I served them alrea……."

"I asked for Avocado toast, not French!" Aaron yelled as he slapped his palm emphatically on the glass table as soon as he set eyes on the food that was served on the table for him, taking everyone by surprise at the outburst of the spoiled teenager.

"You said you were tired of eating avocado toast yesterday, and that I should make French toast instead," Zoe tried to defend, wondering if she had heard him wrongfully the previous day after he complained bitterly and wasted his food.

"Did what I say even matter?!" He shot in anger and cocked an eyebrow, only to meet the cold gaze of Isla, who was staring at him intently with every suppressed urge to lash out. More than anything, she loathed hearing noise whenever she was eating.

Aaron's lips froze immediately as he took his seat with a big grumble, knowing that things might not be easy for him if he got into his Aunt's bad side that morning. She didn't like him already anyway.

"I am sorry for missing that. I will go buy some avocados now, and make another one for you," Zoe apologized, hoping that it would placate him a little bit because she was too tired already.

"Whatever," he mouthed angrily and rolled his eyes as he put a piece of toast into his mouth instantly, before putting his headphones across his head and he began to play games on his phone immediately. It was one of the few times she didn't have to make breakfast again.

Zoe sighed tiredly as she finally made her way into the kitchen while pushing the food trolley, and slouched languorously upon the counter top with her arms. Her body was aching already.

Because of her endless job, which included carrying out everyone's chores in the house, the maids in the mansion had reduced in number, with the few around having nothing much to do.

The next thing she had to do after breakfast preparation was to clean the kitchen first, and then go purchase groceries next, while checking out rooms that needed to be cleaned again. Before she realized it, hours had passed already before she finished her job for the first half of the day.

Zoe's eyes rolled to the silver watch that was wrapped around her wrist as soon as she completed her job for the day, and she let out a weary sigh again because she knew that she would be late if she didn't get out of the house to fetch Ivy's newly made custom dress at the fashion house.

Sadly, she had to hire a cab because everyone in the house wanted to take different cars from the house that day. She was not allowed to drive the other cars except the assigned one meant for shopping because, according to them, a leech like her was not allowed into such limited-edition cars like them. To make things worse for her, she had to walk miles from the main mansion to the gate because of the long distance.

"Good morning. I have come to collect the new clothes under the name Ivy Meyer," Zoe struggled to catch her breath as she made her way inside the deluxe clothes shop, with a cue of where to go straight to get the clothes.

"Some minutes, please," Zara, who was the only shop attendant that usually answered to her, signaled for her to come inside and take a seat, while she went to check out the ordered piece for her. She came back quickly to offer Zoe a cup of coffee as customer service, and the poor lady was so grateful because she had not eaten anything since the day's break.

"What is this filthy thing doing here?" A woman's loud voice raged as she made her way inside, with her eyes burning down heat straight to where Zoe was sitting, "Get me the manager. Why should I be in the same space with a person like this? Does this place have no standards anymore?!"

The woman, spluttering with rage, donned an expensive, elegant dress, and wore the most recent edition shoes from an A- brand. Her body was well adorned with diamond pieces of jewelry and her face was baked to a beautiful perfection. She exuded luxury.

"We are sorry, ma'am," the sycophant attendants ran up to her to see what she had as a problem, and they knew they had to kick Zoe out of the room immediately.

She had forgotten herself after working for so long, and went out with her casual clothes and slippers. Her hair was tied in a rough bun, and her face was pale and bare. Her lips were chapped too because of how tired she was, since she had not been getting enough rest.

"I will leave now," Zoe stood up after she understood what was going on, and she scurried past the lady as fast as she could.

However, things went wrong.

"You idiot! Do you know how much these heels cost?!" Zoe's cheeks thundered heavily at the slap that was plastered on her face by the obnoxious lady, on whose shoes she had mistakenly spilled coffee.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to," Zoe fell on her knees and apologized immediately, knowing well that it was an action that made pompous elites like Dafne Brown satisfied. It made them feel on top of the world when they saw others kneel before them.

"You are sorry?!" Dafne demanded angrily, as her eyes shot out lasers that were enough to burn Zoe down, "I hate it when maids like you do not even know your place!"

"I didn't mean to spill the coffee. I apologize," Zoe begged again, as she tried to clean the shoes with the hem of her skirt. However, Dafne kicked her away in anger.

"I will not buy anything from here if you do not make this lowlife bitch step outside right now!" She fumed so much as she with displeasure, and they all began to beg while ushering Zoe out aggressively. Dafne Brown was one of the most well-known CEOs of major coffee companies in the city, and she was a wonderful VIP client they could not afford to lose.

"Please. Wait outside to receive your clothes," they told Zoe sternly and pushed her out.

Zara ran after her after she witnessed what happened, and apologized to her for the mistreatment as she gave her the cloth package she went to fetch for her. Zoe thanked the assistant profusely for treating her better, as tears tried not to run down her cheeks the moment she turned away from the clothes store. She was tired of crying already. She had been trampled upon too much.

The skies suddenly became pregnant with water as it rained heavily everywhere, and everyone scampered for safety immediately to avoid getting beaten.

The only person that could be seen running in the rain from the mansion gate to the main house was Zoe, because she had to get the clothes for Ivy as soon as possible. The brat had called her a million times to yell, and cursed her for wasting so much time on picking up her party dress.

"The dress is here," Zoe finally heaved a sigh of relief as she pressed the bell to the front of the house, with every part of her body drenched terribly and dripping incessantly with water. The head maid came out of the house a few minutes later to take the package from her, and locked the door instantly without allowing Zoe to enter as instructed.

Zoe's heart skipped a beat the moment she realized what was going on. They had locked her out because she was minutes late from an errand, and because it was past curfew time according to one of the rules they gave her. So, she had to remain outside.

The wind blew fiercely towards the west following the torrents of rain that poured relentlessly, carrying with it cold and all sorts of nonsense, as Zoe, who stood like a lone figure, shivered uncontrollably with gnashing teeth that were locked into her mouth.

She stood tall with her neck hanging downwards, as her silhouette reflected brokenness on the wall of the mansion as the light in the corridor shone upon her. Her face pictured the wet tendrils of her black hair as raindrops cascaded down her cheeks, with her heart shattering a thousand times more as she thought of how pathetic her life was. Too saddening.

After it had rained cats and dogs for hours, the door finally pushed open as her fragile self walked into the house through the back door, so that she would not drip water on the floor of the house. She could not create an extra job for herself when she was barely hanging on to life.

Luckily for her, dinner must have been prepared by the usual chefs since she ran late on her errand, and just walked to her bedroom with heaviness in her heart. Sitting in the hot tub for minutes didn't help to make her feel better, and she was running a fever by the time she had changed into her casual clothes after bathing.

Zoe sat in front of the dresser as she dried her hair over and over again, while trying not to cry at her forlorn, and loneliness. She stared at the emptiness of her eyes through the mirror as she saw how broken and miserable she looked. How mentally tortured and unstable she had become.

Suddenly, the door to her room pushed open, and her jaws dropped when she watched the tall, regal figure walk into the room, with his usual delicious cologne permeating the air as he trailed in. It was her supposed husband, Malcolm Meyer. She had barely seen him the entire month, and he had never come to her room before.

'Was she hallucinating?'

"Let's get a divorce," she heard.

Gossip was flying around the mansion of the Meyers and transmitting with the speed of lightning, as soon as one of the maids saw Malcolm making his way into Zoe's room, which was stationed in a hallway, different from the members of the family. They all wondered what was going on as they tried to think and figure out reasons, Malcolm would suddenly come back from work and go straight into her room. It had never happened before. For him to enter her room ever since they had been married. Their voices rose in speculation. "Is he finally seeing her as his wife?" One whispered as she scrubbed the same spot in the kitchen over and over again. "Or does he have something important to tell her?" The younger maid insinuated. "Could he be mad at her for something she did, and have decided to scold her secretly, unlike the rest of the family?" Another one guessed. "What could it be? Or does he suddenly need sexual relief?" The tallest of them smirked with a seductive grin tugging her lips,

"She must have clearly lost her mind.""Reject a hundred million? Can her family ever get a quarter of it till they all die?""But are you sure, Mrs. Meyer has not gone mad from the aftereffects of too much suffering? She suddenly looked prideful when she asked to eliminate the compensation part from the papers." "Is that not a foolish way to deal with things? Choosing her pride over millions?"The maids around nudged themselves and whispered into each other's ears as low as they could, wondering what was going on in Zoe's head. It was clear to them that she would rather become a penniless, divorced outcast than take the Meyers money. Malcolm was still sitting in his comfortable position like a king's figure, inwardly shocked by Zoe's request not to receive a dime from him. Though his face was cold and etched with an expression as stoic as ever, he smirked maliciously and thought to himself that she was trying to pull silly tricks. It has been two weeks since Zoe left, and the difference in the ambiance around the Meyers mansion was evidently palpable. The maids had returned to their post as usual trying to catch up with everything they had left for so long, and things became difficult because there were barely enough hands to handle all the jobs at once. It had them all wondering endlessly, how Zoe had managed to juggle everything by herself at once. It was difficult. The chefs had been unable to prepare meals to suit everyone's palate and taste buds, and they could not afford to set the table as early as Zoe cooked all meals because of the difference in everyone's preference. The maids that were hired hastily in a few days to cover up for the job, had broken almost all the precious glassware collections in the kitchen. There was always too much confusion in one morning, with vicious rages flying around from every member of the family, and the maids to be the receiving end of every complaint. They had no clu

Everyone was charmed and impressed beyond their expectations to see the stunning female stand before them and give her speech as the new heiress, while the entire family of the Meyers was about to lose their minds as they tried to comprehend the scene. It was too much for them to bear and handle at once. They couldn't even fully grasp the shock. Their breath hitched collectively caught in their throats in a suspended moment of silence as if the shock had momentarily stolen the very sound of their voice, when they realized the reality of their ex-daughter-in-law standing before them, and was introduced to everyone. Audrey and Ivy clamped their palms over their lips with their eyes widened in disbelief, while Irina lost her footing as she froze with her muscles locked in a momentary paralysis. Only Malcolm and Isla remained comported irrespective of how they were feeling, while Aaron was too carried away by his video game to even realize the disorientation his family had been plunged

Every member of the Meyer family alighted from the luxurious car in front of their mansion after the party in the same way they went, and they all sauntered into the living room silently with so much silence that was stifled with heavy tension, through the grand double doors of their opulent mansion which swung open. The family's footsteps echoed on the marble floors with their heels and shoes clicking rhythmically, with the force under their feet evident as they made their way in, each stride a confirmation of the restless anger coursing through their veins. "Do you all believe what you just witnessed at that banquet?!" Ivy, who never took her time to speak her mind among everyone in the family, suddenly lashed out as soon as they all got to the living room."Is it even possible for someone to suddenly change within two weeks, and go from being a wretched lady from the countryside to the heiress to the Sinclair wealth?! Can you even comprehend the possibility?!" She continued with a

In the hushed ambiance of the standard luxurious suite where soft rays of blocked sunlight filtered through the deluxe curtains into the room, Zoe lay in a peaceful repose on the plush bed, sprawled tiredly on every part of the bed. The soft sheets cradled her body into a gentle sensation of warmth and comfort, with her head buried into the huge pillows that decorated the bed in an opulent decor. And for hours since dawn, her eyes had been wide open and staring at the white ceiling. She couldn't sleep further no matter how she tried. The distant hum of the air conditioner was the only thing that she could hear in the deep silence that settled in her room, and it wasn't like the way she had lived her life in the past two years with constant buzziness. She tossed endlessly to the other side of her bed and shut her eyes tightly to find some sleep, but nothing was helping matters even if she tried and wished. Her sleeping pattern had become haphazard ever since she got married to Malco

Though Zoe had planned the day to take a peace check and go out to have fun by herself, Francis Sinclair had called unexpectedly and demanded a brief audience from her as soon as she was about to leave the spa. She strode elegantly out of the spa a few minutes after Audrey and Ivy had seen her, leaving them aghast and battered by intense guilt and fear of the most unexpected thing that could happen to them. The feeling of having to see them shocked beyond their bones at the sight of her, made a satisfactory smirk cross her lips as she sat back in the car that drove her away from the building. But first, that was the most basic because it was an encounter she least expected. Dealing with her grandfather, whom she just got to familiarize with for lunch, was another hassle. The old man was too obnoxious and unnecessary. "You are late," Francis pointed out as Zoe sauntered in and took her seat elegantly in the chair opposite him. "I'm sorry for that. "Are you joking now?! I cannot enter here because someone has booked the mall for two hours?!" Dafne Brown raged angrily, as she stood in front of one of the largest malls in the city to be the first to get the limited edition heels that just came in that afternoon. She couldn't believe that she would be treated in that manner, just because of some simpleton that wanted to show off their wealth. 'Who was the person?!'Zoe was still contemplating what to buy amongst the numerous designer heels that she was looking at, when she heard the loud voice raging from the grand door that led to the section. As soon as she was about to turn her eyes away, she watched some tall lady force her way classlessly into the room. "Who are you and what gives you the right to close up this store as you please?!" She frained imperiously, as her eyes shot out lasers of dagger towards Zoe's direction. Zoe turned her eyes to look at the person talking, and it turned out to be the person who humiliated her

It was late in the night already, and Dylan was just driving Zoe back home. She sat in the back seat and slouched her back comfortably against the leather chair, with her neck hanging sideways against the closed window in the most elegant way ever. Somehow, she was trying not to think of it earlier. She was trying not to think of having to sit before Andre in her office, and talk so casually. It reminded her of Audrey. It reminded her of the woman whose dreams were stolen, and a woman whom somehow no one seemed to remember. It made her heart ache that even her husband seemed to have no ounce of sadness for her death. His expression turned even colder at the mention of her name. As much as Zoe tried to push the thoughts and triggering insinuations that kept creeping into her mind because of the silent investigations she had been doing, she couldn't help but remember what Audrey told her. That someone had threatened her after her encounter with Marcel, and sent an anonymous message

Despite the seeping feeling of cold air into the atmosphere in the office of the CEO of the RINASHONE art gallery, it did nothing to ease the storm that was brewing in Isla's heart, who sat slouched against her chair. Her eyes which had been narrowed by a disdainful glare stared again at the chart that was before her, and she could not help but scrunch up her face the more she read those numbers before her. ‘Ridiculous!’ She almost scoffed, ‘The gallery’s earnings for the month were barely enough. Barely enough!’ her eyes glanced through the pile of invoices again, and then glared at the final figure. “This is not good. Not nearly enough,” she muttered spitefully, the more she thought of her debts which loomed over her like a noose. The ones that had given her sleepless nights because somehow there was nowhere she could have pulled the funds from. Isla leaned back in her chair and gritted her teeth angrily, thinking of how the numbers were still low with the exhibition they held an

The bright lights of the city shone against the tinted windows of the car that drove through the highways of the city, but it didn't do anything to catch the attention of the man who sat back in the backseat of his luxurious car, while rubbing his temples absently with one another. As he remained mute without uttering anything all through the journey back home which was unlike his usual self, his mind momentarily flashed back to the event that happened earlier that day, as he steamed with the remnant of his frustration. It was the second time he had a face-to-face conversation with her. He had stormed into her mall straight from work with his pulse hammering with frustration without even thinking too much about it, the moment he realized that yet again, there was no reply. He was so pissed. For days, she had ignored his email. And when he was told that she asked him to be let inside at once, he was quite taken. Her shortcomings. That had been her concern all afternoon. Not the great news Hepzy went back and forth about. Rather than the joy and excitement that usually came with it, she just felt relieved. Relieved that she was doing well. She wasn't happy about it. There was nothing to be joyful about. As she sat at her desk surrounded by neatly stacked reports and a laptop screen glowing with financial projections before her, the numbers stared back at her. Poor and unproductive in her dictionary. As much as it looked impossible, she had always aimed for every venture she had mapped out in the mall. It wasn't just a mall. It was an empire. The one that billions had been finished off on, and it would end up swallowing more if poured into it. Pulling off something that huge had taken so much willpower and mental strength even if every social psychology quotient of hers was always fluctuating. The faint aroma of herbal tea lingered in the air of the office, where Zoe sat uprightly behind her table, with her poised demeanor betraying no sign of the turmoil that had lingered over her for the past few days even till the night before.Across from her, Zara, who was holding a notepad clutched to her chest, continued to stare at her so overtly, while wondering what kind of woman she was. “You have been watching me like a hawk,” Zoe, whose gaze was fixated on what she was looking at on the tablet that was before her, “Spill it.”Zara hesitated before speaking, as she stared at her, with a concerned expression, “I don't want you to say I bother too much, but I really cannot help but be so worried. I mean you suddenly made me book a flight after the launching, and then left. You came back and told no one. You came in looking so sick and pale, and now you are doing so much work already. It was so dark in the night already, and barely anything could be heard around the estate anymore except the branches of trees moving in the movement of the wind, and the sound of crickets that buzzed amidst the gardens that were around. Malcolm was seen returning to Zoe's house after he had left many minutes ago, with big bags in his hands as he made his way to the front of her mansion. Slipping in through the front door now that he knew its password, he stepped in casually and locked the door behind it. Since he left the other inner door that led to the living room open without closing it when he left earlier, it was easier to just enter on tiptoe without disrupting her. Catching a sight of her still sleeping on the couch in her living room, he dropped the bag he was carrying on the cold, marbled floor, and walked over to her side to feel her temperature. He noticed that she was still burning with a fever. Carefully, Malcolm carried her the same way he had done the previous day,

Malcolm had stood by the window of his mansion all evening after returning from work, with his fingers tapping idly at the corners of it which he had never noticed before, but was as sparkly as ever because the cleaning services that usually cleaned his house were perfect at their job. His eyes had fixed on the road outside as he waited restlessly, with his thoughts sinking into a tangled mess of concern and yearning for the woman he had been bothered about more than ever all day because of the articles that were published. And just at the moment when his eyes caught the sight of a car which rolled into view and drove past his mansion, his heart skipped in relief, before he instantly turned away from the window and hurried out. ‘She was back.’He walked fast, and even almost ran, hoping that he would be able to still meet her outside before she entered her house. “Please can you listen to me first?” Zoe instantly stood up from her seat and stepped forward in desperation, as her fingers curled slightly the moment she stretched her hand in an attempt to reach her, but dared not touch. Did she ask you to meet me? It was not the usual ‘one’ light on, and the rest ‘off’ he usually noticed whenever he was home before he even knew she lived there. This time, it was completely off.
