Chapter 6: My Decision

Briana took a deep breath, gathered her strength, and glanced at Jack. "I think we have to break up now before our relationship runs too deep," she said against her will. A feeling of melancholy starts to suffocate her as she realizes that she is about to let go of someone she is both emotionally and physically attracted to.

"No! I don't agree!" Jack shook his head furiously, not agreeing to her decision. "Why should we split up? We like each other! We're both single, what's the problem, babe?"

Briana sighed. "You know the problem already, we're step-siblings! And people would condemn us if we openly displayed our affection for each other. Unfortunately, we had already reached a dead end before we even began."

"Ah, I see... you're afraid of other people's opinions. But how about us? Our happiness? In the eyes of God, we did nothing wrong, we're just victims of a cruel destiny!" Jack protested.

Briana bit her lip and heaved a sigh. "Jack... I think it won't work, people will always judge us. No matter how hard we try, we just can't get out of this situation."

"I don't care what other people think. We don't have to display our relationship in public. Let's keep everything between us private. Babe, please don't break us apart we just got started, please?" Jack begged desperately, hoping that she would listen to his reason.

Briana shook her head a dozen times. "What will our parents think about us if they know that we are carrying a relationship behind their back despite their union? Do you think they will agree to our relationship? It's like incest!"

"No, babe, it's not f*cking incest! We're not blood relatives. Our parents' marriage does not automatically imply that we are blood relatives. I hope you know the difference!" Jack argued with her.

"I don't know what to say anymore..." Briana said dejectedly. "You want us to continue our relationship? But what if our parents never separate? We will continue loving each other secretly until they turn 100? What's going to happen to us?"

Jack sighed heavily. "Don't worry, destiny will help us find a way out of this situation somehow."

"I hope so, because right now I think our relationship is hopeless," Briana responded gloomily.

Jack sat beside her and held her hand. "Babe, we're not breaking up today, okay? Let's carry on our relationship in secret until our parents separate one day, then that's the time to come out in the open and inform them of our relationship," he said convincingly.

"Um, I'm not sure about that. Damn! I'm having trouble thinking straight," Briana said, cupping her face in anguish as tears threaten to come out of her eyes. The truth is, she doesn't want to let go of Jack because he makes her happy, alive, and complete.

His revelation is making her heart bleed inside.

"Babe, please don't break up with me! I won't allow it! Look at me, please..." Jack begged.

Briana obeyed and looked at him in the eyes.

"I love you, babe! I can't afford to lose you!" he said and claimed her lips for a searing kiss, silencing them both.

The couple kissed each other passionately, their bodies were quickly consumed by lust, and before they knew it, they had reached the bedroom in no time.

"Babe, let's make love and forget our problems for a while," Jack whispered huskily, laying her down on the bed.

Briana couldn't respond because Jack claimed her lips once again obstructing her speech. "I hope so," Briana murmured and closed her eyes, ready to drift into a deep slumber so that she could forget their problem for a while.

The couple closed their eyes and freed their minds from their worries.

Briana drifted into slumber fifteen minutes later, while Jack couldn't force himself to sleep, dreading the moment when Briana would wake up and break up with him again.

He was desperately trying to think of ways to persuade her not to end their relationship.

He continued staring at the ceiling, listening to Briana's soft snoring.

Half an hour later.

Briana finally awoke from her slumber. As soon as she opened her eyes, she met his intense gaze.

"You're awake," Jack said, gazing at her face lovingly.

"You didn't sleep?" she asked.

"Yes. I can't sleep. I'm constantly worried that you'll break up with me the moment you open your eyes," he admitted.

Briana cleared her throat. "The truth is, I already reached a decision about us before I went to sleep..."

Jack's heart began beating rapidly in his rib cage, dreading what he was about to hear from her.
