Jack followed Briana to the door, only to discover that it was a boy delivering the morning newspaper to her doorsteps.
Then Raul, the security guard, appeared.
"Hey, Briana, good morning! Everything is good at your end?" Looking at the man next to her, Raul inquired.
"Yeah, I'm good," Briana replied.
"How long will your brother stay in your place?" the guard asks.
Briana's brows knitted together in confusion. She looked at her companion beside her. "B-brother?"
Jack looked at the guard. "Don't worry, guard, I'll leave this evening. You still have my driver's license, right?"
"Yup!" the guard replied.
"I won't leave without my driver's license, you can be assured of that," Jack said.
"Alright!" Raul looked at Briana. "If there's something wrong, ring the bell right away," he added.
"Okay. Don't worry, Jack is my boyfriend, he's harmless," Briana assured the guard.
Jack's heart was soaring in the sky due to happiness after Briana openly admitted to the guard that he was her boyfriend.
The guard scratched his head in confusion. "But he told me that you are his stepsister, and he comes to visit you. And now you've told me that she is your boyfriend? You're making my head spin, girl. What's the truth?"
Briana smiled. "Ah, he was just lying because he was afraid that you wouldn't allow him to enter the premises to see me," she explained, glancing at her companion for confirmation. "Right, babe?"
"Yes, babe!" Jack felt it was about time to intervene. "Ah, guard, you can go back to your post now. Briana and I still have a lot to do inside the house, you know, lover stuff."
"Ah, I get it!" The guard smiled naughtily. "Okay, carry on. Enjoy your day, lovers!"
"Same to you, guard!" the couple responded in unison.
The guard turned around and went back to his post, guarding the duplex-style houses inside the Pelez compound.
Briana picked up her morning newspaper.
The couple went back inside the house.
"Thank you, babe, for officially accepting me as your boyfriend. I'm so happy right now!" Jack blurted, and his eyes shone with happiness.
Brianna looked at him warily. "You lied to the guard!"
"Oh, no! You can't take back your words! We already have the witness, the guard!" Jack insisted, terrified that she would disown him.
Briana dropped the newspaper on the nearby table and looked at him in the eyes. "If you have something to tell me, then tell me now!"
"Let's settle on the sofa first," Jack said. He was still trying to find ways to delay the inevitable. He's desperate not to lose her just when she finally acknowledges him as her boyfriend in front of the security guard.
"OK," Briana replied as she lowered herself onto the sofa.
"Babe, let's talk about us. It should be us before other people," Jack said in a serious manner.
Briana smiled. "Alright, now that we're officially a couple, I would like to break the good news to my father. I'll call him! I'm sure he won't object to our relationship because he seems to value you a lot. When he gave you my address, trust was already established between you and him. Right?" she added.
"Yeah..." Jack swallowed the lump forming in his throat. As much as he wanted to delay the inevitable, he was cornered and had no way out of his predicament. Sooner or later, the truth will come out, and the outcome will still be the same. She will avoid him without a doubt.
Goodbye to their very short-lived relationship as a couple!
It's time to tell her the truth, no matter how painful the outcome will be.
Jack hugged Briana tightly for the last time. "I love you, babe. I've loved you for a year, but fate is cruel to both of us," he said, his words shaky as a single tear fell from his eyes.
Briana saw the lone tear on his face and immediately wiped it with her hand. "What's wrong with you? Why are you full of drama all of a sudden? Tell me what's wrong. What's going on?"
Jack cleared his throat. "The truth is, the guard was telling you the truth. You are officially my sister now. We just became stepsiblings the moment your father married my mother in a civil wedding ceremony last week," he explained miserably, as sadness engulfed his senses and made him teary-eyed.
Brianna was stunned by his shocking revelations, her face turned paper white. "Whaaaaat! What the hell are you talking about?"
"Yes, that's the truth. My mother's name is Rosita, and my name is Jack Gabriel Brown. Your father might have introduced me as Gabriel because that's my mother's preferred way of calling me. That's why you weren't able to guess that it was me. I'm sorry about that..." Jack explained.
Briana recalled that her father informed her once during a phone call that his latest online fling has a son named Gabriel Brown, and he was falling hard for Rosita's bright and funny personality, and he was still deciding whether to marry her or not.
She didn't pay attention to her father's rambling because he already had a string of online lovers before his current one. She thought it was not going to be serious. But her father ended up marrying his latest lover in a civil wedding ceremony that took her by surprise.
"So... you're the son of Rosita Brown?" Briana inquired, her heart pounding within her. Her blossoming love affair with Jack was over too soon. Now that everything had gone wrong, she felt dead inside, she could never have Jack in her life. The excruciating pain shredded her heart into pieces.
"This is a nightmare!" Briana blurted, teary-eyed.
"Yes, babe, it is," Jack sadly agreed as he watched the pain flash on her eyes. Her pain mirrored his own.
"Oh, my God! And we just had sex two times already!" Brianna gushed, she was utterly horrified and felt ashamed of what they had done last night and this morning.
"Babe, please don't be ashamed of what we have done because we are both sexually and emotionally attracted to each other. There's no need to be ashamed of who we are. You have to remember that even though we are stepsiblings, we are not related by blood. It's just unfortunate that both our parents fell in love with each other and got married, which is why we are in this awkward situation right now. But rest assured that we will find a way out of this maddening situation. Trust me, we will survive as a couple somehow," Jack said reassuringly.
Briana closed her eyes for a few seconds, shaking her head in despair. Then she looked at him straight in the eyes. "What do you mean? Do you want us to continue our relationship despite the fact that we are stepsiblings? Is that what you are trying to say to me?"
"Yes! I insist that we shouldn't let our parents' marriage tear us apart from each other. Let's continue our relationship. To hell with the world and society!" He blasted, desperate to show her that they could conquer the world if they remained in a relationship together.
"Are you crazy? Our situation is hopeless!" Brianna lamented, sighing deeply and fighting hard to keep the tears from falling on her face.
Jack took a deep breath, wanting to wipe away the sadness from Briana's eyes. He felt hopeless at the moment.
The couple ceased talking and looked the other way, avoiding each other's eyes, trying to sort their way out of the mess that engulfed them.
Suffocating silence filled the room.
The couple felt desperate and confused—the complexity of their situation left them heartbroken and depressed.
Briana took a deep breath, gathered her strength, and glanced at Jack. "I think we have to break up now before our relationship runs too deep," she said against her will. A feeling of melancholy starts to suffocate her as she realizes that she is about to let go of someone she is both emotionally and physically attracted to."No! I don't agree!" Jack shook his head furiously, not agreeing to her decision. "Why should we split up? We like each other! We're both single, what's the problem, babe?"Briana sighed. "You know the problem already, we're step-siblings! And people would condemn us if we openly displayed our affection for each other. Unfortunately, we had already reached a dead end before we even began.""Ah, I see... you're afraid of other people's opinions. But how about us? Our happiness? In the eyes of God, we did nothing wrong, we're just victims of a cruel destiny!" Jack protested.Briana bit her lip and heaved a sigh. "Jack... I think it won't work, people will always jud
"What is your decision, babe?" Jack finally gathered the courage to ask.Briana cleared her throat. "I decided that..."The loud sound of Briana's phone's ringtone cut off their conversation, letting them know that she had a call."I'll answer the call first," Briana said, grabbing her phone from the side table. It was her father calling her. She adjusted the volume to full so that her companion could also hear her conversation with her father.'Hello, Dad!''Hello, daughter! Have you seen the photos I sent you in your messenger?"'What photos?''Our honeymoon photos were taken from our cruise ship.''I haven't checked my email yet. I'll check it later. How's the honeymoon going?''Fantastic, daughter. My new wife is amazing, I love her to the moon! The cruise ship is incredible, with all of the rides and entertainment available both day and night. You should join us on a cruise ship one day, together with Rosita's son Gabriel. You will meet him soon enough. Next week, my wife and I,
Briana's eyes widened in shock and utter surprise. "What the hell! You can't do that! Our parents are madly in love with each other, that's a cruel thing to do to two people who are in love! And remember, they are our parents!" She quickly reprimanded him.Jack smiled sheepishly. "Don't worry, I won't do it, that plan pops up in my mind just after you ask me the question.""Good!" Briana felt relieved. "Remember, we can't hurt or scheme behind our parents' back no matter what! If you do that, I will never forgive you!" she warned him in advance."Don't worry, babe, I swear to God, I won't do it despite the fact that it's the only way for us to be together again," he said solemnly."Go now. The longer you stay in my place, the harder it is to say goodbye to you," Brianna said, fighting back tears from falling on her face."Let me hug you one last time." Jack said, enveloping her in a tight embrace that lasted a few minutes. "I love you. Always remember that!" he whispered in her ears.
A week later. On a bright, sunny afternoon.George Mendez and Rosita Brown, just fresh from their one-week honeymoon on the cruise ship, arrived at Briana's doorsteps."Welcome to my humble abode, Mom, Dad!" Briana cheerfully said, sporting a bright smile on her face."Daughter, let me introduce to you my new wife, my beloved Rosita." George said in a sing-song voice."Nice meeting you, daughter!" Rosita smiled graciously."The pleasure is mine, Mom! I'm delighted to meet you! Thank you for making my father happy!" Briana smiled cheerfully. The two women hugged each other, showing support and acceptance for each other."Have a seat," Briana said, glancing at the door, wondering why Jack was not with them. The truth is, she was looking forward to seeing him again. She missed him so much. She kept inhaling his masculine scent on her bed, blanket, and pillow, which she had never washed until now.Rosita noticed Briana glancing at the door and asked, "Daughter, are you waiting for someone
After they finished grilling the meat, they settled on the sun loungers and enjoyed their sumptuous feast while enjoying the sunny weather and each other's company."We're going swimming," George said, looking at Briana. "How about you, daughter?" he asked."I didn't bring my swimsuit with me," responded Briana."No problem, daughter, I bought three pairs of swimsuits recently and I haven't used the two pairs yet, you can wear them," suggested Rosita."Thank you, Mom!" Briana smiled."I'll get it for you." Rosita got up and walked into the house. She went to the room on the first floor.A few minutes later, she can be seen exiting the room, holding a shopping bag in her right hand, and heading back to the backyard. After arriving at the pool area, Rosita handed the shopping bag to her stepdaughter. "You can have both, daughter. I hope you like the design.""Thank you, Mom!" Briana said, pulling the swimsuit from the shopping bag. The first one was a sexy one-piece black and white stri
Before she can decide, the sound of her ringtone alerted her. Dang! He's calling me!Briana has no choice but to answer him.'Hello...''Hello, babe, I know that you are trying to avoid me, but you shouldn't do that. Don't give up on us, please.''Jack, give me a break!''Don't worry, I won't call you every day. Just reply to my text messages if you have free time, okay?''OK'"Goodnight, babe, how I wish you would stop avoiding me as if I have some kind of infectious disease. You make me feel sad and unwanted.'Briana bit her lower lip, feeling sorry for Jack. If only their situation is different...'Babe, are you still there?''I'm still here. I'm going to sleep. Goodnight!''Don't sleep yet! I still want to hear your voice.''Jack, I'm going to sleep now. Let's just talk some other time. Goodnight!'"Night, night, sweet dreams! Dream of me, dream of us. I love you!''Go to sleep!' Briana ended the call and finally added Jack to her contacts and messenger. She put her phone down on
After twenty minutes of travel, Jack finally arrived at the Voyager Resto Bar, owned and managed by Anthony Smith, Jack's best friend since their college days.He parked his car in the parking area and entered the establishment. The restaurant isn't crowded yet because it's morning and everyone is holed up and working in their offices. The three-story building had a restaurant on the first floor, a bar on the second floor, and a living space for Anthony and his live-in girlfriend Amy on the third floor. Amy is currently in the United Kingdom visiting her family.Jack found his friend in the kitchen. "Bro, I'm back!"Anthony looked at Jack and smiled broadly. "You've finally arrived, bro! Let's head to the bar upstairs," he said, removing his apron and hanging it on the wall near the kitchen door. The two men proceeded to the second floor and occupied the vacant table near the counter. The bar was completely empty during the morning hours; it will only get flooded with customers after
After a few minutes of travel time, Briana finally arrived at the compound, followed by Jack's car. She emerged from her car and looked at Jack exiting his, carrying a beautiful bouquet in his hand."Hi babe, flowers for you!" he said and handed the bouquet to her.Briana looked at the flower with appreciation. "Thank you, let's go inside," she said, her fingers trembling with anticipation as she inserted the house key into the doorknob. He stood beside her, and she could feel his breath fanning her face."I miss you, babe," he whispered.Briana can't help but smile upon hearing his confession. "We just saw each other in the morning," she reminded him.Jack grinned. "I can't wait to devour you tonight," he said huskily. She glared at him and said, "Behave!"Jack grinned mischievously and pinched her nose playfully. They went inside the house.Briana put the bouquet on the center table and looked at him. "Did you have dinner already?" she asked.Jack shook his head and replied, "Not ye
Meanwhile, at the Erros Building in Brisham City...Jack, George, and Rosita were already waiting for Briana's return. The table in the dining room was laden with delicious foods as a celebration of her much-anticipated return back into the family fold. The trio was in the living room, watching TV and browsing their phones while waiting for Briana's arrival.Half an hour later.Suddenly, Jack's phone rang; the caller was Briana. "Babe, where are you now?""I'm already outside the building. I hope I'm not late," she said breathlessly, exiting her car and rushing to the building."I'm coming down to meet you!" Jack put his phone in the pocket of his jeans and came running to the door. He was gone in the blink of an eye.George and Rosita looked at each other and smiled."They're really meant for each other," Rosita commented casually while nuzzling baby Andrew's tiny feet."Indeed!" George seconded. "I think our sacrifice is worth it."Rosita smiled. "I think so."Downstairs, Jack and Br
The day that Briana was scheduled to leave the farm finally arrived. Scott's house was enveloped in a gloomy atmosphere.Briana spent the rest of her morning bonding with her beloved twins.Meanwhile, Scott spent his time brooding in his room, waiting for the inevitable. His heart was gradually dying inside as the seconds passed. He was so used to Briana's lovely presence in his life that it would be hard to see her gone, leaving him alone to deal with the heartbreaks, loneliness, and difficulty of raising their twins as a single parent. He wished that this day would never come, but it's finally happening before his very eyes.It was already lunchtime when the maid knocked outside the door. "Sir, lunch is ready!""OK." He replied in a bland voice. The maid went to Briana's room and announced the same, then went back downstairs to resume her work in the kitchen.A few minutes later, both Scott and Briana exited their rooms at the same time.Their eyes met.Briana sighed heavily upon no
Three days later. It was a hot Saturday afternoon. The farm was busy with activity. People were decorating the ground floor and placing the rented tables and chairs on the lawn of the house for the twins christening the next day.Scott was supervising the whole event along with the party planner that he had hired for the special occasion.Meanwhile...Briana, the twins, and their nannies were relaxing on the second floor of the house."Madam, I'll go down and get your snack from the kitchen," Marina offered."OK." Briana nodded her head.Briana studied Nanny Dorothy's features closely. She, like this particular woman, is so mature beyond her age. Dorothy is the oldest of 12 siblings and works on the farm as a nanny to help support her poor family.'She could be good wife material for Scott!' Her inner self spoke. And she wholeheartedly agreed. She bonded with the two nannies well, treating them with kindness and respect and cultivating their trust and friendship before leaving the far
It was already 3:00 a.m. in the morning.Scott was gazing lovingly at his adorable twins, Josh and Jolie, the names that he and Briana have chosen for their children. He planted a kiss on their cheeks. "I love you, babies!" Tears of happiness sprang from his eyes.He glanced at their mother, still sleeping on the bed. He may never get Briana as his wife, but she gifted him two beautiful children that will forever seal their fate together. They will always be a family, come what may. Their bond will be much stronger now that they both have children together. After some time, Scott realized that Briana must have been super hungry after she woke up from her slumber. He pushed the button on the intercom and ordered a light meal for the mother of his children. Then he continued gazing at his adorable babies.Fifteen minutes later, Briana finally woke up from her sleep. She looked around the room and saw Scott gazing at their twins in their newborn crib on the table next to the bed. "Scott,
The months passed quickly.Despite their difficult situation, Briana and Jack maintained solid communication with each other to make sure that they were really going back together no matter what the odds. One week before Briana was scheduled to give birth, she and Scott hired two single village women in their late 20s to become the twins nannies.Marina is 26 years old, while Dorothy is 27 years old; both are good-looking ladies."Girls, you can start working the day I finally give birth to my twins. We will inform you on that day," Briana told the women. "Are you excited to work here?" she asked. The two women smiled and nodded their heads. "Yes, Madam!""Good! That's all for now. You may go home now," Briana said, feeling relieved that she found two great women who she believed were fit to be the nannies to her twins. The first time she laid eyes on the women, she knew by intuition that they were good and gentle women who were capable of taking good care of her twins. Based on her in
Scott finally arrived at the farm before 6:00 in the evening."Sir, Ma'am Briana's boyfriend, named Jack, had come here a few hours ago." The guard informed his employer after opening the iron gate.Scott's eyes widened in shock. "Huh? Briana's boyfriend?" He roamed around the area, looking for his former boss. "Where is he?""He already left." The guard replied, scratching his head.Scott's heart beat so fast in his rib cage. "Did Briana come with him?" He asked apprehensively. The guard shook his head. "No. Ma'am Briana went back to the house while her boyfriend left in his car, going back to where he came from.""OK. Good!" Scott's face brightened up like a flashlight as huge relief washed over him. For a split second, he was afraid that Briana would leave the farm and go with Jack back to the city. He was glad and grateful that she stayed true to her words that she would deliver the baby before going home.He walked in a big strid
That afternoon, Scott went to the next town to buy farm supplies. Briana decided not to tell him about Jack's coming to the farm to avoid a confrontation between the two men. It's something that she can't afford to happen. She wanted to talk to Jack alone without Scott hovering around them like a phantom in the opera. A moment of peace with Jack is all she ever needs. Scott noticed that Briana was looking tense again. Worried about her state of mind, he asked, "Are you okay?" "Yes, I'm fine. Don't worry about me. Just go now," she replied with a smile to reinforce her statement that she was fine. "If you are not feeling well, I will just stay with you today and buy supplies tomorrow. Or you can come with me if you want," he offered. "Nah, you go ahead. I'm fine," she insisted. "Alright, I'll go now. Do you want anything? I can buy it for you in the store," he said. Briana shook her head. "I already have everything I need. You may go now." "OK. Take care of yourself, Bri! Call
Scott noticed that it took Briana so long to inform him about the result. Fifteen agonizing minutes had already passed.A growing suspicion tugged at his mind. If it were negative, she would be here by now, wearing a relieved expression on her face, informing him that it was negative.Unless...Unless the result is positive! She is pregnant with their child! That is why it took her so long to come out of the bathroom after conducting the test.He pressed his head on the door and listened for sounds inside the room; he heard faint sobbing! Is Briana crying? But why?His heart starts racing so fast! It only
One month later.Briana was sitting on the balcony, enjoying the morning sunshine after eating her breakfast. Scott went to the next town to buy some supplies for the farm, and she had chosen to remain in the house instead of going out with him.She unlocked her phone and sent a message to her father. 'Good morning, Dad!'A few minutes later, George entered the chat. 'Morning, daughter!''Is everything okay there? My son is okay?''Yes, everything is okay here, but there are some problems with Jack and Charlotte...'Briana's interest was piqued. 'What do you mean?'
