Chapter 4

"Wyn, we threw a divorce celebration party for you," said Dean Spencer, Wyneth's fourth brother. He then looked at his wristwatch and clicked his tongue in disapproval. "Andrew is too slow. Give him a call and tell him to change his route. Let's go." Dean then extended his hand to Wyneth. "Wyn, let's go. I'll drive you."

Elon Spencer, Wyneth's fifth brother, pushed his glasses up and smiled enigmatically. "Why don't I drive you instead?"

"Hey, your driving skills are terrible," Caleb Spencer, Wyneth's third brother, immediately criticized the other two. He then spoke to Wyneth, "Wyn, it's safer to ride in my car."

Wyneth thought to herself, "Here they go again." She felt a headache coming on and quickly spoke before anyone else could. "I'll ride in Amy's car."

The five Spencer brothers fell silent, not wanting to compete with a young girl.

"Let's go."

Wyneth took Amelia's arm and turned away. As she reached for the passenger door, Amelia nudged her in the waist. "Um, Wyneth, could you drive instead?"

Wyneth was puzzled.

"M-My legs are a bit weak right now."

Wyneth lowered her head and noticed that Amelia's legs were trembling. She recalled the scene just now and felt both helpless and amused. "What a wimp."

She then took the car key from Amelia's hand. "Get in the car."

As she finally drove away from the place she had been stuck for three long years, Wyneth caught a glimpse of the Riverview Gardens gate in her rearview mirror. But despite its familiarity, it did not stir any warmth within her. She whispered to herself, 'I've finally woken up from that dream. It's time to be true to myself again.'

...

Hayden had just finished a five-hour international conference and returned home late at night. As he walked in, he immediately took off his coat. A woman took his coat from him and spoke in a sweet and charming voice, "Welcome home, Hayden."

The unfamiliar tone caused Hayden to pause briefly in his actions. After a moment, he looked up at the woman and realized it was Gigi.

In the past, whenever he returned home late, it was Wyneth who would take his coat. Wyneth was quiet, so quiet that she did not even talk to him when he returned home. At most, she would say, "You're back."

"Hayden, are you hungry? Let the maids make you some midnight snacks." Gigi held Hayden's coat as if it were a treasure. Hayden replied calmly, "I don't usually eat midnight snacks."

Before Gigi could speak again, Hayden reached out his hand to her and said, "Give me my coat."

Reluctantly, Gigi handed him the coat.

"Get some rest," said Hayden.

"Hayden..." Gigi wanted to follow him, but the butler in the house stopped her. "Ms. Kane, it's late. You should go back to your room and rest."

Gigi bit her lower lip, refusing to give up.

Wyneth had claimed to be Hayden's legal spouse that afternoon, but Gigi did not believe it. She decided to ask the maids for confirmation, and they revealed that Hayden had indeed married Wyneth. However, their words soon comforted her. "Ms. Kane, don't worry. Wyneth is Young Master's spouse in name. Madam never treated her like a daughter-in-law. And after Young Master woke up from his vegetative state, he was too busy with work and had no time for her. So, she is nothing in the Hamilton family."

Gigi's spirits lifted upon hearing that. She could not help but think, 'So what if she's actually his legal wife? It wouldn't matter if he doesn't love her. That means I still have a chance. And on top of that, he even cleared out her room for me to stay in. That's proof that she's not even as important as a maid in the Hamilton family.'

Meanwhile, Hayden walked into his study with his coat. He opened his laptop, planning to handle some urgent matters. But when he saw the divorce agreement on the table, he called his lawyer Nathan.

"Mr. Hamilton, have you finished your meeting?"

"Yeah."

"By the way, Ms. Walford has already signed the divorce agreement on the last page. Take a look, and if you think it's okay, you can sign it."

Hayden's hand paused as he flipped through the pages of the divorce agreement. He thought, 'She already signed it? So fast?'

As he turned to the last page, he could not help but notice Wyneth's signature. It was quite different from her usual demeanor, which was quiet and reserved. Her signature, on the other hand, was bold and forceful.

"By the way, about the clauses you asked me to add... Ms. Walford probably doesn't need them," said Nathan.

"Why?"

"When she signed, she didn't even read the agreement. She just signed it." After a moment of silence, Nathan whispered, "I think Ms. Walford really wants a clean break."

Nathan still could not wrap his head around it. Wyneth had been part of the Hamilton family for years, so why would she want a complete break? He could not help but wonder to himself, "Did she really not want anything in the past three years?"

"Okay, I got it." Hayden hung up the phone, stared at her signature for a moment, and then took out a pen, thinking of signing his own name.

Knock, Knock

Hayden looked up and saw a maid holding a tray with a cup of coffee.

After he had woken up from his vegetative state, his work piled up like a mountain. He had to work on his tasks every night until one or two o'clock, and he always drank a cup of coffee at this time of day.

The maid did not dare to look around. She placed the cup of coffee on the table and then retreated.

Hayden picked up the cup and frowned as soon as he saw it.

In the past, he always added milk to his coffee to neutralize its bitterness. It was his favorite taste. But today's coffee had nothing in it.

He called the maid back in to ask about it. The maid explained, "Umm, normally Wyneth takes care of these things. I didn't know you wanted milk in your coffee. Shall I add some now?"

Hearing this, Hayden wanted to laugh. He thought to himself, 'Normally she's the one brewing and bringing me coffee. After she signed the divorce agreement today, she's not coming anymore?'

"No need," Hayden pinched his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. "Please take it away."

Once the maid had left, Hayden found it difficult to focus and did not feel like working anymore. He figured it might be because he had been in back-to-back meetings all day. So, he shut his laptop and headed back to his room.

As the hot water cascaded over him, Hayden felt some relief from his headache. He instinctively glanced at the shelf where he usually found a set of clothes and a towel waiting for him, but it was empty today.

This was strange, as there had always been something prepared for him in the past. Then, he remembered the coffee incident from earlier and quickly realized that it must have been Wyneth who had been preparing them all along.

Hayden thought, 'She did so much for me.'

The memory of Wyneth's expression earlier that day, when she asked for the protective charm, crossed his mind. It was obviously something dear to her heart. Hayden made up his mind to ask her what it looked like. He had lost it, so he should look for it. Even though he had never seen it before.

After he finished drying his hair, Hayden called for a maid. "Have you seen Wyneth?" he asked.

The maid's expression suddenly turned odd. She was stuttering, hesitating to speak.

"Speak up," Hayden said, his eyes cold and clear.

"Uh, sir, Wyneth has left."

"Left?"

"Yes," The maid blinked and hesitated before adding, "It might be because she was upset that you gave her room to Ms. Kane, sir. But don't worry, Wyneth is head over heels for you. I'm sure she'll be back tomorrow."

"Wait," Hayden caught the important point. "Did you just say I gave her room to Gigi?"
