Chapter 2

"Let's get a divorce."

The air in the study seemed to freeze in an instant.

Nathan Zach, Hayden's lawyer, had been trying to act like he was invisible since Wyneth arrived to question Hayden. She was in a bath towel, so he did not dare to look at her and kept his head down. But when he heard what Wyneth said, he looked up suddenly and stared at her in disbelief, then turned to look at Hayden.

Hayden frowned, his look a mixture of emotions. It was clear he was not anticipating Wyneth to bring up the topic of their divorce.

After hesitating for a long time, Hayden asked her, "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," Wyneth replied.

"No regrets?"

From the moment she mentioned divorce, Wyneth suddenly felt relieved. The giant boulder that had been weighing on her heart all this time had disappeared. She smiled slightly, "I have no regrets."

There was silence in the room again.

It took a while before Hayden finally spoke up in a deep voice, "Okay, I'll have my lawyer draw up an agreement for the property—"

"No need to go through the trouble. I'll just walk away with nothing," Wyneth interrupted.

Both Hayden and Nathan were caught off guard. Nathan, in particular, was staring at Wyneth in disbelief. "Is she for real?" he thought to himself. In his mind, Wyneth was just a superficial woman who married into the Hamilton family for their wealth and social status. He never expected her to say she wanted to leave with nothing.

"But there is one thing you have to give me," Wyneth continued.

Nathan was momentarily speechless. 'I knew she married into the Hamilton family with a motive!'

Hayden, however, was calm. He asked, "What do you want?"

"Give me back the protective charm I gave you before," said Wyneth.

The protective charm was given to Wyneth by a monk on the day she was born. The monk said he had a connection with the newborn Wyneth and gave her the protective charm as a gift. Since her family believed in supernatural, they had always kept it with her.

Wyneth had intended to give it to Hayden for his safety while he was still in a coma. But now that he was awake, she thought he did not need it anymore. Besides, the protective charm had been a part of her for so long that she could not imagine parting with it.

She thought to herself, 'Since we're getting a divorce, it's best if we just cut ties cleanly,'

'Protective charm?' Hayden had no memory of it. "When did you give it to me?"

Wyneth suddenly realized that Hayden had no recollection of the charm. The last glimmer of hope in her eyes disappeared, leaving behind only darkness. She thought to herself, 'I should've known. The thing I treasured so dearly means nothing to him.'

Hayden continued, "Is it important? Could you describe it? If you have a photo of it, that would be better. I can have someone look for it or—"

"No need!" Wyneth interrupted him abruptly. "Since you don't have it, forget it. It's not important anyway!"

After saying that, Wyneth quickly turned and left.

When she returned to her room, she found her things had been thrown out. The room was cleaned up and even had a new pink carpet and bed sheets. She thought to herself, 'After all these years, I've ended up with nothing.'

"Ms. Kane, this way please." A maid fawningly led Gigi over, holding a pink suitcase for Gigi.

As soon as Gigi laid eyes on Wyneth standing at the door in a towel with wet, messy hair, her glamorous face turned sour. She marched up to Wyneth and scolded her, "Hey, aren't you the maid who cooks downstairs? What are you doing up here and dressed like that? Are you trying to seduce Hayden? I knew the Hamilton family wouldn't hire someone so young as a maid without ulterior motives!"

The Kane family and the Hamilton family had a long-standing relationship, and in the past, Wyneth would have tried to explain herself. But now she was getting a divorce. She would no longer be part of the Hamilton family, so she had no reason to defend them. "Maid?" As she sneered at Gigi, her fair fingertips twirled around her slightly damp, long hair. "Who told you I was a maid? Have you ever seen a maid like me?"

Wyneth looked like a completely different person now compared to when Gigi saw her downstairs earlier. Her skin was as white as snow, and her eyes were so cold and sharp.

Gigi could not believe her eyes and shouted, "Who are you?"

But Wyneth ignored her and slowly packed her belongings into her suitcase, with an elegant and graceful manner.

The maids had never seen Wyneth like this before. There she was, crouched down but still composed and dignified, like a Rain Lily that had weathered a storm and remained strong. Despite the small size of the Rain Lily's flower, it exuded a gentle yet powerful aura. Wyneth was like a whole new person.

She picked up her suitcase and stood up, the corners of her peach-colored lips pulling slightly, giving Gigi a glimpse with her eye's periphery.

Wyneth instructed the maid beside Gigi, "There's half a pound of walnuts downstairs, you can bring them up and let Ms. Kane try them."

"What?" Gigi was confused, "What walnuts? Who wants to eat walnuts? I'm asking you, who are you exactly? Answer my question."

Wyneth took off her hair towel, and her wet, soft hair fell down, stunningly beautiful.

"Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Wyneth Walford, Hayden's legitimate wife," she said, and then left calmly, leaving Gigi in shock.

Twenty minutes later, Wyneth was dressed and back in the study.

Only Nathan was in the room, Hayden was absent.

She cursed in her heart, 'Hmph, even for such an important matter as signing the divorce agreement, he's absent. Well, he never cared about me anyway, probably just wants me to sign the agreement and scram.'

"Mr. Zach, is the divorce agreement ready?" Wyneth asked Nathan. As one of the members of the top and most professional law firm in Daledonia, it was a simple task for him to draft a divorce agreement.

Nathan handed Wyneth a copy of the agreement, his expression somewhat complicated.

"Just so you know, there are two copies," he reminded her.

"Got it. How many spots do I need to sign?" Wyneth asked.

"You'll need to sign in two places, on the last two pages," Nathan replied.

Wyneth flipped to the signature section of the agreement and quickly signed her name.

As she was signing, Nathan watched her closely. Seeing her calm demeanor, not even bothering to read the agreement, he could not help but ask, "Aren't you going to read the agreement?"

Wyneth closed the divorce agreement once she had finished signing the last one.

"What's the point of reading it if I'm leaving with nothing?" she replied calmly.

Nathan hesitated, "You... Never mind. You can't take the agreement with you for now. It won't be effective until Mr. Hamilton signs it," he said.

"Oh," Wyneth said emotionlessly. "Then Mr. Zach, please keep my phone number. Contact me when he signs it."

Nathan was speechless again. He thought Wyneth would stay and wait, but she just left. He wondered, 'She's just getting divorced, can her personality really change so drastically? Is she really indifferent or playing hard to get?'

As her phone rang, Wyneth answered, "Hello? Are you here yet? Okay, I'm coming now."

After ending the call, Wyneth turned to Nathan and said, "Mr. Zach, I'll leave the divorce agreement for you to handle. Goodbye."

With that, Wyneth walked away without any hesitation, leaving Nathan bewildered. He thought, 'When Hayden Hamilton was bedridden in vegetative state, she fought tooth and nail to marry into the family. And now she's leaving without taking anything. Is she really okay with it? Is she planning something? And what about that divorce agreement...'

Nathan flipped to the final page and glanced at Wyneth's signature. She said it was pointless to read the agreement, but if she had actually read it, she would've been blown away by the amount of property she was getting. Nathan could imagine the shocked expression on Wyneth's face when she saw it. But he did not expect her not even to take a look!

Meanwhile, the entrance to Riverview Gardens, which used to be empty, was now filled with many flashy cars, making it impossible for residents to leave their own cars.

"What's going on?" Matilda asked the driver, her voice tinged with annoyance from the back seat.

"I have no idea, Madam. The entrance is jam-packed with fancy cars, and we can't seem to get out," the driver responded.

'Fancy cars?' Matilda was startled by a knock on the car window. She saw Mrs. Cheel, her shopping buddy for the day, standing outside. Rolling down the window, Matilda was met with Mrs. Cheel's exclamation, "Oh my goodness, Mrs. Hamilton! You've got to come out and see this for yourself. What on earth is going on? There are all these fancy cars everywhere..." Mrs. Cheel was clearly beside herself with excitement.

Matilda looked at Mrs. Cheel disdainfully and thought to herself, 'What a country bumpkin.' But as she opened the car door, she was taken aback by what she saw.

A luxurious Rolls-Royce and limited-edition sports cars from prestigious brands like Ferrari, Bugatti Veyron and Pagani were before her. Matilda was completely stunned. Even though the Hamilton family was wealthy, she had never seen such a scene before.
