Chapter 1

When Wyneth Walford came out of the kitchen with a tray in her hands, she suddenly saw another woman sitting at the dining table with her husband, Hayden Hamilton.

The woman was dressed in a stunning manner, sitting beside Wyneth's husband, Hayden Hamilton, with a gentle expression on her face.

"Wyneth! What are you doing standing there like an idiot? Hurry up and bring the food over!" Matilda Mann, Wyneth's mother-in-law, yelled at her before Wyneth could react. Wyneth hurriedly carried the tray over and placed the food on the table.

"Oh?" The beautiful woman looked at Wyneth in surprise and said, "Mrs. Hamilton, why did you hire such a young maid?"

'A maid?' Wyneth's hand trembled as she looked at the woman. When she opened her mouth to explain, Matilda interrupted her. "Gigi, not everyone is as outstanding and hardworking as you."

"Oh, please don't flatter me, Mrs. Hamilton," Gigi replied humbly, her hand unconsciously flicking her hair as her eyes darted toward Hayden, who sat in the main seat.

Hayden had piercing clear eyes and a cold demeanor, with jet-black hair and thin lips. His face bore a stern expression, with tightly pursed lips that seemed frozen in place. He remained fixated on his phone, completely oblivious to his surroundings.

Matilda wanted to send Wyneth away, fearing she would ruin things for her son. So as soon as Wyneth finished serving the dishes, "You don't need to be here. Just head back to the kitchen and continue your work."

"But..."

"But what?" Matilda's eyes narrowed.

Wyneth looked at her husband Hayden, wishing he would speak up for her, but he was too busy on his phone.

She could not help but think to herself, 'Great, on top of dealing with my overbearing mother-in-law who never showed me an ounce of kindness, now there's Gigi to deal with too.' She bit her lip and unwillingly turned to leave.

"Gigi, you've finally made it here. Why don't you stay here tonight?" said Matilda.

"Okay, Mrs. Hamilton. But where will I stay?" Gigi asked shyly, stealing a glance at Hayden.

"In the room next to Hayden's, of course," Matilda answered.

"Won't that be inconvenient?" Gigi asked.

"We're family. There's nothing inconvenient about it, right, Hayden?" Matilda asked.

Hayden remained unresponsive.

"Hayden!" Matilda raised her voice.

Finally, Hayden's attention was diverted from his phone. He looked at Matilda, who was clearly unhappy, and asked, "Yes?"

"I'm talking to you!"

"Sorry, I was just dealing with an urgent work matter," Hayden put away his phone and asked, "What's up?"

"Gigi is staying here tonight. Get someone to clean up the room next to yours later."

'The Kane family and the Hamilton family go way back. It's normal for their daughter to stay over.' With this in mind, Hayden nodded impassively and said, "Okay."

"Thank you, Hayden."

Hayden then stood up. His voice was cold as he said, "I have to go back to the office later."

Matilda said, "The food is already served. Why don't you eat something before you go?"

"No. I have an urgent matter to attend to." With that, Hayden took his clothes and keys and left the dining room quickly.

Meanwhile, Wyneth did not go back to the kitchen. She went to her own room instead. The more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became. 'Why didn't Hayden speak up for me? I worked hard to make dinner for him, and just because that woman came, he didn't even ask me to sit down?

'And that woman even thought I was a maid. Hayden didn't explain for me. Did he just agree with her opinion? Why did he have to agree with her opinion?' Countless questions arose at the same time, leaving Wyneth feeling extremely upset.

Standing in front of the mirror, she looked at her greasy hair and face that had not been taken care of. She also noticed that her eyes had lost their former luster. She was now wearing ordinary clothes and a yellow apron, no wonder anyone who saw her would mistake her for a maid.

Wyneth took a deep breath and entered the bathroom.

She spent several hours tidying herself up. She cleaned her face, exfoliated, applied a face mask, washed her hair, and took a bath. When she came out of the bathroom, she saw two maids changing the sheets on her bed.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

At the Hamilton family, Wyneth had no status. In the maids' eyes, she was just a woman who married Hayden when he was in vegetative state. They thought she was only interested in the Hamilton family's wealth.

Matilda did not care about Wyneth, and the maids would treat her with disdain. They would speak to her in a sarcastic tone.

"Wyneth, don't you know? The eldest daughter of the Kane family, Gigi Kane, is staying here tonight, so Madam asked us to clear out the room."

Wyneth stood stunned. She asked, "What do you mean?"

The two maids stopped their work and looked at her with glee. "It means you can scram."

Wyneth clenched her fists tightly and then released them. "Who told you to come here?"

"The young master."

"That's impossible!" Wyneth instinctively refuted, "This is my room, Hayden wouldn't do this to me."

"Madam has already informed the young master, and he agreed. He asked us to clean up when he came back from the company. You can ask him yourself!"

Wyneth took a step back and quickly ran out in a towel.

Hayden and his lawyer were in the study. "Sir, about the matter you mentioned last time regarding Young Madam's property..."

BANG!

The study door was pushed open forcefully. Hayden and his lawyer looked up to see Wyneth standing at the door, gasping for breath.

Wyneth's skin was as fair as snow after her shower, her wet hair dripping water down to her waist. The towel only covered her to mid-thigh, revealing her fair skin with a light sheen of water.

Hayden frowned upon seeing her. "What are you—"

But Wyneth interrupted him, out of breath. "I heard they said Gigi is going to stay over tonight."

'Gigi?' Hayden nodded and replied, "Yes."

"And she will sleep in the room next to yours?"

Hayden was not interested in where Gigi was sleeping. His focus was on why she came running over in just a bath towel. 'Doesn't she feel awkward talking like this?'

Seeing him not responding, Wyneth bit her lip and looked directly at Hayden, trying to confirm with him, "Is it?"

Hayden said with a nod, "Yeah."

Wyneth froze. She was hurt so much that it felt like someone had punched a hole in her heart. She had the urge to yell at him, 'Hayden, do you know that the room next to yours is mine? Why are you giving my room to another woman?'

But she could not help feeling that it would make her look ridiculous if she did. She thought to herself, 'Come on, he's been awake for so long, he must know that room is mine. He just agreed so easily, probably because he doesn't care about me, doesn't like me, and certainly doesn't love me.

'He's the man I have loved for a decade. Despite his vegetative state, I married him without hesitation. But in the end, I meant nothing to him.

'Yeah. You can't just magically start loving someone out of nowhere. It's like, if it's not there, it's not there. I guess I've forced it on him all these years.'

Wyneth suddenly felt foolish, realizing that she had wasted her youth and genuine emotions on a man who did not reciprocate her love.

'In that case...' Wyneth closed her eyes and said, "Hayden, let's get a divorce."
