He glanced back at me from over his shoulder. “Bullshit,” he said, and threw a bag on the island. “D’you like seafood?”

“Great. Lou’s allergic, so I can only have it when he’s not home.”

“You guys live together?” I asked, suddenly alarmed by the perspective of Mr. All Fours walking in at any moment, to find his alpha having dinner with the rebellious pet.

“Sort of. We’re what you can call an open couple, and we like to have our own places in case we need some room. We only get together when we feel like it. Which is pretty often anyway.”

“Ouch,” I grunted.
