I opened my eyes again two hours later to the quiet apartment, and an awesome feeling of unexpectedly welcome solitude. I got up with breakfast in mind. Oh, right, the fridge was empty. But there had to be coffee left. Steph would never run out of coffee. I set the coffeemaker to work and sat with the computer to place our weekly supermarket order. Maybe they could deliver it by noon, and I could have a good, nutritious lunch. I also thought of trying one of the thousand new companies offering delivery of already-made meals ready for the microwaves. But I never got to place an order.

While browsing the best-rated services, my eyes stole away out the window, enjoying the silence. I had no idea what time Steph would be back and for the first time in my life, I didn’t care.
