Amelia laid the stick down on the bathroom counter, where it was surrounded by four others, the plastic clattering softly against the dark marble. Knees weak, she backed away from the counter and sat heavily on the closed lid of the toilet.
When she closed her eyes, the pink plus signs swam in her mind. Five tests—four positive, one negative.
Amelia was, most definitely, pregnant.
She buried her face in her palms, her lips quivering as hot tears brimmed in her eyes. Her lips parted with a tiny sob and a sniffle.
She was pregnant.
She really was.
And she had no idea who the father of her child was.
Flashback (two months ago)
"This place is awesome, isn't it?" Emily grinned. "I've been dying to take you here."
"Yeah, it's great." Amelia scrutinized the club before turning back at Emily and smiling. "How did you know about this place?"
"Ben had suggested it." Emily lifted up her glass of martini to her lips.
Amelia followed Emily's action and drank her own, even though she didn't like it at all. "So, uh, you just turned 18, huh? Did you run your mate?"
"No, but I know my mate, so don't worry about it." Emily took another sip of her martini.
"Really? Then tell me, Who is he?" Amelia threw a playful smile at her best friend.
Emily raises her eyebrows in amusement. "You will know soon. Wait for Ben; he will know too."
Ameila laughed out loud, drawing attention to herself and Emily. "To think that he knows before me is actually hurting my felling's Emi."
"Your pain is my gain, besti." Emily said it teasingly. "And remember our plan: today you are going to sleep with your Alpha and make him yours. You already promised me my birthday gift. I already set up a room for you," she whispers in the last part.
Amelia blushed. "I'm scared, but you are right; I don't want anyone to take him away from me. I already see him as my Alpha."
After One Hour:
Amelia stood in the corner of the club, silently cursing herself for letting Emily drag her there, and now she leaves. She hated large groups of people, and they knew it, but if she wasn't there, Emily wouldn't plan a special night for her and Ben.
Speaking of Ben, she watched him float through the crowds of bodies; Emily was dancing with him now. Amelia shook her head, thinking they could do so much better. Her best friend and her boyfriend are always on good terms.
But her parents—Amelia's parents—hate Ben, especially her father.
She snaps out of her seat when she sees Ben, who somehow looks pissed. "What?"
Amelia let out a deep breath. "Nothing; I am just getting bored. Can we go somewhere else?"
Ben just smirked, "Nope. This is your best friend's 18th birthday; just enjoy Amelia. Stop being selfish for a night."
Amelia just hung her head in defeat. "Ok."
"Great, you promised her one night out, and that is what you are going to get. So, you have a few more hours to loosen up! And drink this."
"I don't want to drink alcohol, Ben."
Ben rolls his eyes again. "I know you are your father's good girl, Ami, but can you please do this for me and for Emily? She especially sends this for you."
Amelia looks towards Emily, who is still dancing. She winks towards her, which makes Amelia brush. Maybe if she loosens up a little, she can give herself to Ben. So, Ameila just nodded her head, took the drink from her boyfriend, and drank it in a single gulp.
It was hot. So unbearably hot. That was Amelia's first thought as she drifted up into consciousness from a horrible night's sleep. She'd tossed and turned all night, feeling like her body was on fire. Sweat soaked her tangled sheets. As her eyes fluttered open, she groaned. Her whole body ached with a pain that she'd never felt before. She wasn't hurt. Was she ill?
All she wanted was to pull her pillow over her eyes, shielding them from the blinding light coming through the bedroom window. But she couldn't do that.
With a heavy sigh, she tries to untangle herself from her sweat-soaked linens and climbs out of bed. A shower is what she needed. A cold shower. Midway to her bathroom, she stopped. A thick, warm liquid was running down the back of her legs. Reaching around, she wiped at the wetness. It only took an instant to realize where it was coming from.
She opens her eyes instantly, and she looks towards her surroundings, and then she looks towards the bed. Sweat covered her brow and soaked her body. In that moment, she knew. She knew what was happening.
Emily's birthday party, Ben, and... and the drink. She got drunk somehow.
Somehow, she sleeps with someone else. The wetness running down her legs was slick and cumbersome. Fear filled his belly at the ramifications of what this meant.
The unknown Alpha is still sleeping, and his back is facing Amelia. She sleeps with someone else by mistake; she cheated on her boyfriend, her Alpha.
But how? Where is Emily? Where is Ben? How didn't they see her?
Amelia had to get out of this place as fast as she could. Stripping off her sweat-soaked t-shirt, she dressed as fast as she could. She glanced at the clock. It was 5:25 a.m.
She looks back at the unknown Alpha, whose back is still facing her, and wishes to never see him again.
The old door creaked as she opened it. Sticking her head out, the corridor was quiet and empty. This was good. Slipping quietly out of the room, she ran down the corridor. She ran through corridors, down flights of stairs, and finally reached the front door of the club, not making a sound. The whole place was quiet. No one saw her. Pushing the heavy main doors open, she stepped out into a cold, brisk morning. With the doors of the club falling shut behind her, she glanced back.
She slept with an unknown Alpha and cheated on her own boyfriend. With a heavy sigh, she set off on a run, not bothering to look back.
Two days later:
"Don't touch me!" Ben yelled; he looks furious.
"Ben, let me explain," Amelia started.
"No! You don't get to explain yourself!" Ben began to storm off, but Amelia grabbed him.
"Let me explain, please." Amelia said it pleadingly. "Please." Ben only looked at her, but since he didn't try to pull away, Amelia took it as a sign to begin.
"Look, I had a plan to give myself to you, Ben, but I don't know how I..." Ben cut her off with a snort.
"I wasn't looking for any action or anything because I have you." Ben pushed Amelia off of him.
"Ben. I swear, I don't know how I even got drunk or how that Alpha Amelia tried to take Ben's hand in hers, but Ben pulled away.
"Please give me a second chance. I swear to my parents, it won't happen again." Amelia pleaded with Ben to forgive her, but Ben just couldn't do it. All he did was shake his head, trying to hold back the tears that were beginning to form, and walk off.
Amelia starts crying and looks towards her best friend, who is also standing and listing everything.
"Emily, I swear, I don't know how."
Emily shook her head and gave her a small smile. "Don't worry, Ami; I will talk to him. He was just hurt. Just don't worry."
Emily hugs her last and then follows Ben.
It's been two months, and Amelia hasn't heard anything from Ben or Emily. First, she thought it would take time because Ben is hurt, but she is sure that Emily will make things right.
But now, she really doesn't have much time. She will message Emily, and if she doesn't reply to her,.
Then Amelia will tell her parents everything.
One Week Later:
"You're awfully quiet, dear." Jen, Amelia's mother, observed her, who was sitting tensely beside her and her mate Bradnon.
She barely said a word since she arrived to help her father with some packing. "Darling, whatever it is swirling inside that pretty head of yours, you know you can tell me, right?"
"Are you going to break up with that good-for-nothing Alpha?" Brandon interrupts his mate.
"I already told you he is not good for you, my friend Ale..."
"I'm pregnant." Amelia abruptly blurted, cutting her father in the middle.
Brandon blinked. "I'm sorry...what?"
"I'm pregnant, dad." Amelia repeated, gingerly glancing at her parents. "I am two months pregnant."
"I...I know that you don't like my relationship with Ben, and we've been together for only a few months... but dad, actually." Amelia added nervously.
"When I go out with Emily, I get drunk, and then I..."
"You need to get rid of it." Her father's expression held no emotion.
"What?" Ameila paled.
"Get rid of it; get an abortion." Brandon said it coldly.
"Dad, let's...let's talk this through." Amelia tried to remain calm. "I know this is shocking news, and it's totally understandable to be anxious and...and frightened. Let's calm down first, and then we can start discussing this, okay? Mom, please make dad understand."
"Let me get this straight, girl." Her father exhaled harshly. "We don't want it. We don't care if we're financially or emotionally ready for this because we simply don't want it. You are not even presented yet, and you got pregnant. Did you know how much shame you bring for us?"
"But dad, how can I kill my own child? Mom, please help me." Amelia retaliated.
"Listen to your father, dear." Her mother sighed.
"You're young, so why would you trouble yourself with this burden? Just get the abortion, and you'll see that I'm right."
"MOM."
"Stop shouting, Amelia." Her father glared at her.
"Ok, you want this child fine; Jen calls that stupid Alpha boy. I need to talk to him, and then I will decide what to do with that thing."
Amelia gulps; she is scared now that this child is not Ben's, and if Ben tells her dad this, her father will definitely try to kill her child.
No, she can't let this happen; she needs to talk to Emily now.
"You called me Alpha." Ben said as he and Emily both entered the Cambell mansion. Amelia, who is standing with her mother, tries to give Emily any kind of signal so she can look at her. She tries to call her many times, but she doesn't receive her call. "Well, we understand it's necessary for all of us to talk about your and Amelia's relationship," replied Brandon, sitting up straight. "Sorry, sir, but what relationship?" Ben replied with a small smile, "We already broke up." Jen looked towards her daughter in confusion but didn't find any answers. "I think it's not wiser for an Alpha like you to leaves your unborn child alone," said Bradnon, looking at the young Alpha. "You need to take responsibility, young man." "Ben dear," Jen starts, "I understand that we are not ok with your and Amelia's relationship, but now. Now things are different." Both Ben and Emilly look towards Amelia in confusion, who shook her head and tried to give them a short signal. "Ma'am, sir, I really do
6 Years Later: "Alec, Ethan, wake up, darling. Mama needs to dress you up so you can meet Ady." Amelia chirps with fake excitement in the silence of a very cold Tuesday morning. She looks down at her watch, sighing at the thought of being late for work for the third time that week. "Babies, please?" Amelia starts to give up when she barely gets any lucid reactions after ten seconds pass. With another longing sigh, she surrenders. "Fine, I'm letting you two sleep some more, but promise me you have to wake up in a few minutes, okay?" There's the shame Amelia knows she'll endure when she arrives at work and judging stares are shot her way by her office mates. All the looks dig deep into the skin of her face. She leaves the room to pack her lunch and Alec and Ethan's daycare backpack. Since she's working until five in the evening, the sweet omega next to her block, whom she calls Adria, takes on the responsibility of watching her two hearts while she's at work. Adira doesn't really c
The elegant but heavy-looking oak door is staring judgmentally at her when Amelia stops in front of the VIP room. It's not like she's never faced VVIPs before; it's just impossible considering she works in the hotel. She drags her feet with faltering speed, obviously taking her time before knocking on the door, while 101 reasons and fears cloud her mind.Knock. Knock. Before she even thinks of knocking again, like any other normal person would do when they didn't get an instant response, she hears a low grunt followed by a deep voice asking her to come in. Amelia twists the knob with her sweaty little hand, not even daring to peek in her headfirst, and just quickly steps inside before turning her back towards the person she is about to face, facing the door while carefully closing it.Then it hit her, and the scent hit her."Mate."Amelia was startled by the voice; she quickly looked towards the owner of the dominant voice. She gaped at the handsome man in his robe, who was standing i
Amelia tries hard to stop the Alpha when the Alpha is going to give her the final bite. The high alpha just ignored her and continued to lap her tongue over Amelia's skin, the deep growl grew louder, and he pumped the last few drops of his saliva into Amelia. Amelia was panicking and speechless because Alpha didn't tell her anything about mating. Fuck. What is she going to tell her children's when they saw the bond mark, even they don't know about it they will still ask questions."Sebestian, stop it please."The alpha finally pulled out from her neck, heavy breath dropped out through his nose, chest heaving and eyes starting to become clearer than before signaling his rut had come to its end. He blinked rapidly while looking around, eyebrows rising at the shaking and crying Amelia, all confused until his brown eyes fell on to the red moist on the area next to Amelia's shoulder."What the fuck?!""Sebestian...""Oh god, I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I-"Amel
3 hours later: -Amelia wipes her threatening tears and quickly gets herself together before continuing to exit the building. She literally has no time to think about the insult and the broken bond when she has another problem coming up, after leaving the Alpha room the first thing she did is take shower and cry her hurt out.As much as she wants to leave the building soon, she can't go home like this. Her eyes widen as she looks down to her watch when it shows her it is one minute before the last bus starts to leave. There's no way she could reach the station by then, but she keeps running anyway. The busy street only makes her steps harder and soon as she reaches the bus stop, she sees the bus departing, leaving a stunned Amelia far behind in the middle of the street crowd.No.No. No. No. This can't be happening.Seriously, what did she even do to deserve such a shitty day? Everything has gone wrong since the morning and if Amelia thought the universe didn't hate her that much when
"I've never thought someone as stern as you could offer those kind words, but thanks again." Amelia jokes, amused.Steaven James always stays professional and cold but look like today is full of surprise for Amelia."Eh, looks are deceiving they say." Steaven winks, smirking as the blush on Amelia's cheeks darkens. "Anyway, I'm bringing you home, are you fine with that?"Amelia hesitates at first, but since she has no choice, she agrees."Mr. James, can we stop at the pharmacy first? I need to get Alec's and Ethan medicines."Steaven nods before adding, "You can call me Steaven, we're outside of the workplace and I hope you don't mind if I call you Amelia.""Oh, sure, S-Steaven." The alpha smiles in satisfaction at the mutual agreement and soon, the engine of the black Bugatti roams loudly as they glide on the road. They arrive in front of the flat area when the digital clock of Steaven's car strikes 8:00pm, the wheels halt on the dark tar that covers the parking lot bringing them to
"Amelia?" Steaven carefully calls as he sees how Amelia is whispering to her son's, afraid that he might scare both of them even more. The omega quickly looks up and motions for Steaven to continue as she straightens her body before turning to properly face to him."Would you like it if I give you a day off for tomorrow? I mean, you obviously need it to look after your poor boys, and Alec and Ethan probably want their mama to be with mama, am I right?" Steaven smiles when he finally gets the attention from Amelia's sons as the little boy's looks up to him, clearly curious as to why their name is being mentioned. The alpha's grins even wider when both of them nods, agreeing with him with a little smile, but for Steaven it still counts considering the boys was being a bit hostile to him at first. Alec then reaches out to touch Amelia's arm, silently pleading for her to stay at home for tomorrow."Mama, can you please not go to work tomorrow? I don't like to feel lonely when I'm sick." h
They weren't expecting someone, not like there's anyone ever just casually visit them without informing Amelia through a phone call first. Even her evil aunt would tell her at least three days prior to the day she'd arrive in city, but that only happens twice a year due to their packed schedule with her aunt working as a doctor.Revelation is a drop of a bombshell once she opens the door just to face the one and only Steaven James. The man is standing in his glorious work outfit, Amelia can literally smell the thousands dollar worth of famous designer touch that is smugly cloaking his sturdy, muscular body, screaming alpha. Face smirking at the gaping look coming from Amelia, a slight upward quirk to his lips when he greets, "Good evening, Amelia.""O-oh, hi. Good evening, Mr. Steaven." A surprise squeak coming from Amelia is what makes Steaven quickly state the reason for his arrival."Sorry to bother you but I just want to give this to boys." He holds out a transparent bag full of w
Ady was the one that actually tried to cheer him up with something else than kind words and chocolate."So. Heard you tried to dispatch Ci with fish knife?" he asked conversationally. "Want another go at it? Somewhere more... private shall we say?"Ethan would have been lying if he said he didn't consider it. But it wouldn't do shit for the real problem. Him."I'll let you the pleasure. Didn't you and Simon were keeping her around for a special occasion anyway?""Ah yes... Well Jen said, "only crazy, homicidal maniac keep people around to kill them later". He's such a buzzkill sometimes." Ad corrected, a fond expression on his pale face. Ethan had speculated about Ad and Jen for a while, until Alec had announced that he and the young Omega were dating more seriously now, around a year ago."Well, he's not wrong," Ethan mused, "though if you did kill her, your position would be finally secured.""Appealing to me through politics Wil? So, you do want her dead!""Everyone wants her dead.
"Ethan? Are you okay?" Matthew asked, tearing Ethan from his thoughts.Damn you burgundy Gucci shirt."Yup, just admiring you," he spoke, trying to smother the deep want that was growing in his belly. Ethan wasn't the best orator, but confronted to that shirt, he was usually back to his old incoherent self, stammering half sentences around (that was why he elected to let his body do the talking for him).Matthew batted his eyelashes, accepting the compliment easily."You're wearing a new suit, darling," he commented when Ethan had sat down, eyes riveted to Ethan's chest, "without me having to cajole you in it. Recall me to send something nice to whoever dressed you. Even if truth be told, I'm a bit jealous.""I never got your obsession with dressing rooms Matt," Ethan joked. Opening his menu, he saw that Luigi had put a small note in it Everything is going right on schedule it said. He smiled."Well you're usually half naked in those, I don't see what's not to like. At that point the
All told, Ethan had tried to propose to Matthew in six different occasions since his lunch with Cammy. It was not that Ethan was bad at it, per say. It was just that Matthew was just too good at distracting him. That, and the rest of the world didn't stop trying to kill him.The first time he gathered enough courage to propose, Matthew had mistaken Ethan going down to his knee for something else entirely and made a dirty, dirty remark and Ethan's proposal metaphorically went out the window. Cammy didn't see any of that, thank God, but the flush Cammy had sported when he reported to her his failure was enough. Sammy cackled (when did Ethan lost his ability to glare at her and mean it damn it) and justified himself for going with Matthew assumption by saying:"What, you want me to ask him after a blow job? I actually want him to give me an answer when he's capable of thoughts, Cammy."She had stared at him then, probably because she never had heard Ethan talk so easily about sex before,
After all, the man had already lived hard life. Alpha, beta, and omega tended to gain marks over the years, for each person they loved or trusted enough to share their soul with. Someone like Matthew, with his warmth and smiles and beauty, should have had dozens of lines littering his skin. A bond would have explained it all.But then, of course, Ethan's gaze flicked towards Matthew other wrist, and his eyes widened at the two lines that adorned it. Two only; one black, the sign of a broken bond, and one golden, shining as brightly as Ethan's. A single active bond."I'm surprised you accepted my offer," Matthew said a few minutes later, swirling his glass and staring at Ethan coyly. "You've been particularly hard to catch, Ethan.""Ah, yes," Ethan grimaced. "I've been... busy. You know how it is, being a Alpha. Or maybe not, but well, you know...""Yes darling, I understand," Matthew chuckled. "I'm just happy to have you here.""Happy- happy to be here," Ethan stuttered, his right fin
The change was instantaneous; Sam pursed his lips thoughtfully and looked away from Matthew. His pencil stopped moving, and his grip tightened so much that his knuckles turned white."It would make Ethan happy," he finally said. The answer was a lot more diplomatic than what Matthew had expected, especially since this was clearly something that troubled Sam. "He's a lot happier with you than he's ever been before, even with us, and I think he'd be even happier if he got to live with you.""I hope so," Matthew smiled. "But that's not what I asked, Sam. Look, I can tell that you don't really hate me, regardless of the little show you put on earlier, so why don't you talk to me about what's really bothering you? Is this about me spending too much time with Ethan?""No," Sam mumbled. "Not really. It's just... His last boyfriend used to spend a lot of time here as well, and he even told me that he was going to move in once, even though it didn't happen, and he didn't like it when I was aro
"Matthew, what is it?""Cammy!" Matthew exclaimed a tad too enthusiastically. "I've got a bit of a problem, and I think that you're the perfect person to help!""Flattery will get you nowhere, Matthew," his friend in all but blood snorted. "But go ahead, tell me about this problem. I'll see what I can do.""Right, so you know Ethan?" he started. "My delightful boyfriend whom I love very much and for whom I would do just about anything. Well, he needed someone to look after his little brother today, and I jumped in to help. But now I'm faced with an eight-year-old who doesn't want anything to do with me and seems to think that I'm worse than the devil. He doesn't believe I'm good enough for Ethan, refuses to be 'used as a way to get to him' and also slammed the door to his bedroom in a clear 'i-don't-want-to-talk-to-you' way. Any ideas?""Well, first of all, you shouldn't have accepted a job that you're too inexperienced to handle," Cammy pointed out uselessly. "But have you tried sugg
Ethan was already in their bedroom when Matthew got back to the hotel. The younger vampire grinned at him happily and Matthew felt another pang of regret at his earlier behaviors. He could have been with his boyfriend hours ago, but instead he had acted like a jealous fool and wasted time on stupid insecurities that he should have gotten over weeks before."I missed you today," Ethan sighed, leaning over to peck him on the lips. "Alec said that you stopped by the wok and went looking for me after the council meeting, but I didn't see you. Did something come up?""Yeah," Matthew lied, wincing at how wrong the word sounded. Ethan was right, he couldn't just ignore his issues and keep Ethan in the dark. It wasn't fair to either of them. "Actually no, not really. I went to the training room to find you, but you were with Ady and I... I don't know, Ethan, I guess I overreacted a little bit. I went to Cammy for a while instead.""What do you mean, you overreacted?" Ethan frowned."I just...
"Sorry I'm late!"Matthew looked up at his boyfriend dryly, refusing to show how affected he had been by Ethan's absence. The two of them had been planning this date for weeks, but the younger man hadn't even managed to show up on time. Of course, Matthew understood that Ethan had a lot on his mind, but he had hoped that for once he could be his boyfriend's priority."Advin kept me late again," Ethan continued with a sheepish grin. Matthew steadfastly ignored the wave of jealousy that hit him at those words. "You know how he gets when we train. I tried to remind him that we had something planned for the night, but he refused to let me go until I beat him, which only happens like... One out of twenty times. Are we still going to that star-gazing thing at the observatory?""Of course we are," Matthew rolled his eyes. The younger Alpha had been talking about the event for over a month, which was why they had chosen this night for their date in the first place. "We should get going if we
(How Ethan and Matthew got together)"You have a choice to make. I will not ask again."The words hurt to say, but Matthew couldn't let this Alpha take over his heart, no matter how pretty he was. If Ethan refused to put an end to this sham of a promise he was planning, Matthew wouldn't chase him any longer. He breathed in deeply and ignored the pain that flooded his chest as Ethan remained silent. He lifted a hand, ready to go away at a second's notice, but then the gorgeous Alpha in front of him turned around and all thoughts of disappearing faded away.He should have left, should have given Ethan space and time to think about his offer, but one look at those sorrowful eyes was enough to stop him in his tracks. He was falling too fast for this Alpha, was putting himself through things he had refused to deal with for year's, and he didn't know how to put an end to it.(Didn't know if he wanted to put an end to it.)Matthew stayed silent, waiting for Ethan to speak up, to deny his fee
