ANAIS’S POV
The next few days were boring for Anais. She felt increasingly restless and adrift.Atlas had taken care of her that night after she had spent the afternoon on the street, but the next day ended up working from home a lot of the time.He spent hours in his office and though he frequently came out to check on Anais and though he always touched her somehow, Anais still felt very alone. She didn’t feel sick or rejected like she had that first day, thank goodness, but there wasn’t anything really to do and she felt like she wasn’t working on building a relationship with her alpha. They slept in separate beds and made conversation about little things during the day. Sometimes they ate together but mostly, Atlas was in his office, leaving Anais to her own devices.Eileen didn’t come the next day but Anais quickly understood that she was there several times a week to do the cleaning and the laundry.Atlas had seemed distracted and though he had not gone out to get the cell phone he said he would, he did give Anais a tablet for her to use but she was bored of that too. She could only watch so many videos and scroll through the news and social media so often. She did take the time to learn a little more about her mate from the public side. She found out that Atlas was a pretty decent alpha. He did a lot of charity work and paid his workers a good wage. He employed omegas in all levels of his company and had built it using integrity and honesty.Anais saw many pictures of the alpha with different omegas and betas on his arm at functions and she wondered if one of them was important to the alpha. She wondered if she had ruined something for another omega like herself.Atlas had not taken her to the grocery store and Anais didn’t want to leave the apartment by herself, so Atlas encouraged her to order food whenever she was hungry from the pile of take out menus in the kitchen drawer with the credit card he put beside it.Anais did so, but soon grew tired of it.Even though she had lived in New York for more than five years, she had eaten mostly homemade food and she wanted a real meal. She didn’t have money of her own, even if she wanted to go out and do anything, so she stayed in the apartment.Atlas had a large bookshelf of books that Anais scoured. She found a few that she was interested in and spent some time reading. Anais wasn’t used to having so much time to herself and she didn’t know what to do with it.Eileen seemed nice and she was friendly, but Anais couldn’t help but feel like she was displaced. It wasn’t anything she had consciously thought about before but there was something in her that felt inferior while she watched another omega clean her house and do all the jobs that she should be doing. She didn’t know what to do or how to talk to Atlas about it because she wasn’t even sure it was her place. She constantly waffled between wanting to assert herself and be the independent omega she had always been and worrying that Atlas would make her leave or take the pup.It seemed like Anais’ whole world had changed in a moment and the alpha’s had gone on normally. There seemed to be little that had changed for him according to Eileen. She told Anais he worked a lot and was home sometimes working but mostly was at the office. He forgot to eat and take breaks and she had to remind him to do both of those things. On the fourth day after Anais had arrived at her new home the alpha came out of the office to find her sitting in one of the chairs at the dining room table staring out of the window.Anais could scent his surprise and he turned to see the alpha come into the room carefully. He frowned at her. “What are you doing?” Atlas asked her.Ana shrugged. “Nothing, Atlas,” She replied. He smiled faintly at her. “I can see that, but why?”“I don’t have anything to do,” She told the alpha honestly.“Ana, there are any number of things you could do. What would you be doing if you weren’t here?” Atlas asked. He came over and pulled out the chair next to her to sit down.Anais turned to him and looked at him.She could tell that Atlas really didn’t understand what her life was like before.“Right now, I’d probably be waking up,” She told the alpha. It was just after noon and she had finished lunch right before Atlas came in. She had returned to the table alone after she cleaned up her plate.Atlas’ eyebrows raised. “Are you a late sleeper?” he asked.Anais licked her lips and looked down at the table. She ran her finger along the smooth grain of the wood. “I would work until one or two in the morning, Atlas. Then I’d have to get cleaned up and upstairs, most of the time eat something because I didn’t get a chance to while working.”Anais felt the alpha stiffen next to her and his scent became sharper. Anais pressed her lips together and ran her finger along the table harder.“I’m sorry, Atlas,” She whispered. “My life isn’t glamorous or easy in any way. It was about trying to survive. It still is, I guess,” She said, thinking of how precarious she felt in this situation.“And what would you do during the day?” Atlas asked her.Anais could tell his voice was strained. She didn’t look up from the table as she continued to talk but the alpha’s scent had turned. Anais could tell he was wary and unsure.“We all had chores to do to keep the common areas upstairs clean. The bathrooms and things, along with our own rooms. Sometimes there were early clients but we mostly had to be on the floor by five every day.”Anais heard Atlas’ swift intake of breath and knew he was thinking about how long she worked and how many alphas she must have serviced each night in that long of a shift and then ultimately how many…Anais shook herself slightly. She glanced up at Atlas, noting the sharp scent that was still in his scent. “So, not much time to do anything other than try and survive another day.” She saw Atlas’ clenched jaw and pinched forehead and she knew she had made the alpha mad.Her stomach roiled and she suddenly couldn’t breathe. Tears pricked her eyes.“I’m sorry, alpha,” he whispered. “I know you didn’t really want me.”Anais wanted to leave but she was worried that Atlas would be angrier with her if she walked away. She was still so unsure. The first few days Atlas had been attentive and wonderful, loving almost. The last two days she had barely seen him and when she had, it was just a brief glimpse and a light touch. Enough to keep her from being sick, but not enough to keep her from being scared and sad.“No, Ana, that’s not it at all,” Atlas told her. He gently touched her hand where it rested on the table. “I’m angry that your life has been so difficult. I’m angry that you had to sell yourself in order to survive. I’m sorry that I’ve not taken care of you well enough for you to know that I am not angry or resentful towards you. I don’t like to think of other alphas touching you, especially now that you’re my mate and pregnant with my pup, but I’m not judging you or looking down on you for it.”Anais looked up at him shyly. Atlas’ scent was pure and Anais knew he spoke the truth. It was hard for her to understand how Atlas could feel that way.“If you could do anything, what would you want to do?” he asked.Anais was surprised. She hadn’t really ever thought about it.“I like movies,” She said. “I wish I could have gone to see some of the movies in the theater.”“You want to go to the movies?” Atlas asked him. His eyebrows were up and she ducked her head at the surprise.“Not-not now alpha,” She stuttered, trying to back pedal.“Dean,” Atlas’ tone was soft but commanding. She didn’t resist when Atlas tilted her chin so she could look him full in the face. “I’ll take you to any movie you want to see. I am just realizing how little you’ve had in your life. I wanted to know what big plans you might have had. What you would do if you didn’t have to work and had anything you wanted.”It was Anais’s turn to be surprised. “Oh, well, I guess I don’t know Atlas. It’s not something that you think about while you’re trying to make enough money for the club so they don’t put you out.” She shrugged again and Atlas smoothed his hand around to the back of Anais’s neck.“Oh, Ana,” he whispered sadly. Anais let him gather her into Atlas’ chest and she rested her head on the alpha’s chest. “I am so sorry your life has been that way.”“It wasn’t all bad, Atlas,” She told the alpha. “But I don’t know what to do now.”“But that’s my point, Ana. You could do anything you wanted. Now you have everything you could ever want and all the resources in the world to do with what you wanted.”She shrugged again. “Just wanted a good mate and a few pups,” She whispered. And it was the truth. She didn’t want much. She wanted to feel safe and not struggle to survive. She wanted pups and a loving mate. For a while she thought her dream might be fruitless, but not anymore. She had Alpha Atlas Hawke now.Atlas pulled away from her slightly and Anais swallowed a whine at the loss of the contact. Atlas knew though, Anais could see it in his eyes. He kept a hand on hers.“Let me wrap up a few things and then we can go out. I want to get a few more things for you and we can have dinner.”She lit up. “Really?” She asked excitedly. She was more excited about spending time with Atlas than the shopping or the meal, but the idea of sitting across from the alpha at a nice restaurant was appealing to her.Atlas gave her a gentle smile. “Really.” He pressed a kiss to Anais’s forehead and stood. “Give me a half hour and then we can go. I’ll call Alfie.”***Anais put on some of the nicer clothes that Atlas had bought for her.It was summer, so he opted for a khaki skirt and a button down with the sleeves rolled up. She had seen a lot of women wearing something similar the first day she was at the apartment outside waiting for Atlas. It was definitely not her style, but he thought Atlas would approve. The alpha had on black slacks and a button up that was undone at the top with the sleeves rolled up.It also covered her mating bite for the most part, so they could hide it.When they had gotten in the car Atlas had slid his hand across the seat, palm up, and Anais couldn’t help but feel a small thrill that her alpha wanted to hold her hand. Anais put her hand into Atlas’ and they rode through the city hand in hand.Anais was surprised when they pulled up in front of the Apple store. She didn’t know where they were going and she could only imagine what Atlas needed.“Let’s get you set up,” Atlas told her as they entered the building...TBCAUTHOR’S NOTE: hi you guys, how’s the story so far? Please leave gems“Let’s get you set up,” Atlas told her as they entered the building. Anais gaped at him but didn’t have time to question him further before a sales attendant approached them.“Alpha Hawke,” he greeted them. The beta was tall and dark with a bald head and a wide smile. Anais didn’t like him. She wasn’t sure what it was, but the beta made her feel inferior with just a look. She shifted closer to Atlas but didn’t reach for him like she wanted to.“Uriel,” Atlas greeted the other as he shook his hand. “I need to get some things today for Ana here,” Atlas continued as he indicated her next to him. “She will need a laptop and a cell phone.”“Of course,” Uriel responded. “Follow me, your private room is ready.”Anais tried not to gape at the fact that not only was this guy waiting for Atlas to arrive, he was on a first name basis with her alpha and was currently leading them to a private room. If she had come in here a week ago, they would have turned her right back around and made
Atlas didn’t seem to notice her and Anais watched his face as he clenched his jaw and shook his head. Anais’s stomach churned at the sight of the alpha so upset. Anais’s omega instincts were to bare her neck and submit to the authority and anger of the alpha but she couldn’t make herself move.Anais looked over to the table that was littered with several laptops and devices, coffee cups and paperwork. It wasn’t that late but it looked like they, too, had been here and working for a while. She was confused and worried as she continued to take in the details of what was going on.An unfamiliar red head was hunched over one of the laptops and there were two other female betas sitting with her at the table. They each wore headphones and were completely absorbed in what they were doing. Anais couldn’t see any of the screens in front of them and didn’t know what she would be looking at anyway. She turned when she heard something in the kitchen and Eileen came out carrying a pot of
ATLAS POV“What the fuck was that?” Charlie exclaimed in a whisper.Atlas turned his attention from the empty doorway to his PR director. He raised one brow at her. Charlie was not only his employee, she was his best friend. “Don’t give me that Dom brow, asshole,” she told him as she turned around in her chair. “Why did you send Anais away?”Atlas sighed. He could feel himself clenching his jaw and worked to relax it. He put both hands in his pockets and paced the floor. Truthfully, he didn’t know why. Maybe it was to spare the omega uglier things. They were sure to continue for a while. Charlie was working on gathering information to spin the news, but he was pissed that they didn’t get to put it out on their terms. He was mostly pissed at himself. Charlie had pushed him to get photos and claim the mating so they could control the story. Atlas had sat on it because she wanted to present it as a love at first sight meeting where they were so in love they couldn’t help them
ATLAS POVHis ex girlfriend had packed her bags and left. Her sister had come to move the rest of her things out of the apartment they shared together and that was it. Atlas had been devastated. He had loved her and wanted to bond with her.He also felt stupid because he didn’t see what was happening. How could he have missed that she had been cheating on him? Had she been that careful or had he been that oblivious?Atlas had spent the last seven years bringing different social peers to events and using one-night stands and omega services when he needed to. He didn’t want to open himself up to that kind of hurt again. But now, it seemed that he had no choice. Either Anais was going to be here or she wasn’t and Atlas wanted to honor their mating. He wanted to have her as his mate, he was just unsure and needed to be careful. He hated to admit it, but the comments by the reporters had planted doubt in his mind. Yes, he was the one that had bitten Anais while they were togeth
ANAIS POV “I don’t know about this, Atlas,” Anais told him as they descended the stairs sometime later. “Anais, we’ll take care of it. I want you to be here and have a say in what happens. I shouldn’t have asked you to leave in the first place.” Atlas turned to her and pressed his lips to Anais’s.Anais closed her eyes and relished the touch of her mate. She had known that she was pining for him but it had been kept in check with the small touches Atlas had given her the last few days. Anais hoped that Atlas would stay as affectionate as he had been that morning.Atlas turned her and they entered the dining room again. The three betas were working still, but they had all put their headphones back on. The red head looked up at their entrance and pulled off her set. “Alright,” she smiled. She stood up and walked around the table. Anais could see her excitement as well as scent it. “I’m Charlie. I’m Atlas’ official PR director and jack of all trades, but also his bestie,” s
ANAIS POV*“What will we do?” Anais asked instead.Atlas sipped his coffee and pulled up something on his phone. “Charlie sent a list of things that she thought would be good for us to do together today.”He tilted the phone so Anais could read the screen. Art museum, Central Park Zoo, carriage ride, walk Riverside Park… The list went on and on. Anais saw some added ones at the bottom and her mouth dropped open.“A helicopter ride at sunset before we have dinner on a yacht?” She read out loud. She knew her voice was incredulous and she couldn’t contain her laugh. “Are you kidding me?” She looked up to see Atlas looking at her with a slightly confused look on his face.“Yes,” Atlas told her pointing to the note. “That’s how we’ll end the day today. The top ones are suggestions for this afternoon. Does one sound better than another?”“What?” Anais asked dumbly. “We’re going on a helicopter ride?”“Yes,” Atlas told her matter of factly. “It’s scheduled for five o’clock and t
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter TWENTY ONE .Anais walked to the couch and lay down. She had spent several nice nights with Atlas here, watching a movie or the news. Anais liked that she could lay on it and be comfortable because it was so long. She stretched out and turned on the television. She watched a few shows and flipped through the hundreds of channels that Atlas had.Anais made herself some lunch and ate outside on the terrace. She had discovered this piece of heaven the other day. It was a warm day and Atlas had wind guards in place to make sure that everything stayed where it should stay and that it was comfortable. There were couches and tables and there was a bar with seating under an overhang with a TV.It was Anais’s favorite spot in the entire place. She ended up eating out there and then read a book she found on the shelf. She fell asleep for a while and woke up when it was late in the afternoon. She stretched and smiled. She felt good. B
ATLAS- THAT MORNING.Atlas’ alarm went off early and he groaned as he grabbed his phone to silence it. The sun was up but it was only six o’clock. He blinked and tried to remember why his alarm was set an hour earlier than usual. The warm body shifting next to him reminded him why.He was going back to work today and he needed to take care of his mate before he left. Charlie had helped him make a plan to return to work that would make it as easy on Anais as possible. Atlas wasn’t really worried about himself, he knew he would be fine, but Anais would be alone.Anais’s soft body curled into his and Atlas used the arm that was already around her to pull her flush against his side. He moaned as his cock stirred and Anais’s sweet scent wafted into his nose. “Mmmm, morning,” She mumbled. Atlas rolled over and had Anais flat on her back as he hovered over her. Anais’s surprise was clear on her face and Atlas smiled. He leaned down and pressed their lips together gently.“Good m
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter SIXTY: . Anais let Atlas lead her around in a swaying motion and realized that the evening had gone better than she ever thought it would. She relaxed and enjoyed dancing with Atlas. They stayed on the dance floor for several songs before Anais started to drag a little.Atlas noticed right away and pulled her back to their table where they said their good-byes. Anais followed Atlas as they made their way across the room to the doors. Anais stopped and stepped out of the way as Atlas moved to the window to get their coats from the coat check.“I didn’t think I’d see you here tonight,” a breathy voice said behind her. Anais turned to see Lilith approaching her.“Lilith, it’s nice to see you,” Anais said. She would be civil and cordial. She reminded himself that she and Atlas had had a wonderful night and she wasn’t going to let this woman ruin anything for her.“Wish I could say the same,” she simpered. Anais rolled her eyes.“What
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY NINE: . They had been home for three days when Atlas brought up the subject of a charity ball.“What do you think?” he asked Anais. She paused. It would be the first function out in society since her illness. Anais licked her lips and thought about it. “Like, how big of an event are we talking?” Anais asked.Atlas handed her the glossy invitation and Anais stared at it. It was for the Rainforest Alliance Annual Gala. It looked fancy and it was going to be held at the American Museum of Natural History. A big event.“If you don’t want to go, it’s alright, we won’t.” Atlas’ scent was honest and the understanding look on his face made Anais feel like Atlas meant what he said.“I’ll have to go out sometime, right?” Anais asked jokingly. “Anais , it really is-““No, no, Atlas, it’s okay. I mean, we knew something was going to have to happen to get us back out there, it’s just…” She shrugged. Atlas stepped forward and took her
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY EIGHT: . “What are you thinking about?” Atlas asked softly. They were laying together after Atlas had cleaned them both up, Anais’s head on his chest. Atlas had been brushing his hand through Anais’s hair, grooming her. He noticed that the omega’s scent was wavering. He knew Anais was thinking about something she wasn’t sure of and worried about. Atlas wanted to give her the chance to talk about whatever was bothering him.He continued to try and read Anais’s scent more than he had before. Anais was expressive and he wondered if the omega had been this way all along and Atlas had ignored it, or if she had controlled herself tightly the first few months.Anais sighed and shifted slightly. Atlas felt the brush of her rounded belly against her hip and he reached over to stroke it. He felt Anais’s mouth lift into a smile against his skin and it made Atlas smile in turn.“I don’t want to destroy the mood,” Anais told him. “It’s
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY SEVEN: . ATLAS POVAtlas lay with Anais after they were knotted, thinking about their discussion. Her omega had dropped off after several minutes and Atlas took some time to look over her. They were laying on their sides, spooned together and he could see a clear view of most of his mate. His eyes followed his fingers as they trailed over her collarbone and down her back to her ribs. He brushed the hair off of Anais’s face and ears and looked at her lashes and freckles. Her perfect bow lips relaxed in sleep made her look young and youthful. He thought about what Anais had said that night and realized, again, what life was like for his omega. He felt sad and angry that Anais had gone through so much. Atlas was both appalled and honored that Anais had such a tie to him, but it also made him feel slightly ill to know that his mate’s situation was so precarious. He had been confident with Anais that this fragility wouldn’t be for
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY SIX: . Anais knew that people needed time to change, but she was angry and frustrated now. She was upset that Atlas told her one thing and did another. She was mad because her body was betraying her and she felt helpless to do anything about anything. She didn’t want to go back to living in fear every day and she could easily see how that would happen if she knew she was going to be sick every night if Atlas was late.“Do you know how frustrating it is to have your entire life taken away and put into the hands of someone else who could literally kill you with indifference?” Anais asked him. She heard Atlas' swift intake of breath and pressed her lips together. “Atlas, I’m not trying to blame you or make you feel bad. I want to move forward as much as you do, but it’s different for me.”She swallowed and ran a hand through her hair. “You want all these things for me. You want me to be happy and safe and well cared for. You
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY FIVE: . “Atlas, dinner’s ready,” Anais called from the kitchen. She plated the food and set everything out but Atlas hadn’t appeared. She padded back into the hallway and knocked on the door to the office.“Come in,” Atlas’ voice called. Anais pushed open the door to see her alpha at his desk. Atlas had been working non-stop the entire day and Anais wanted him to stop and eat. The pictures from the night before had run that morning, along with a short article and the rest of the news outlets had quickly picked it up.Anais had been reluctant to look at it when Atlas asked her, but she had in the end. It wasn’t as bad as he thought. There were several pictures that made Anais smile. There was one of her and Atlas when they got to the restaurant and Anais had made the joke. They were smiling at each other, sharing a little excitement about the future. One of the others was a shot of Atlas kissing her hand when they were in
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY FOUR: . She and Atlas had made a lot of progress, but Anais was still feeling her way with the alpha. She felt more confident that Atlas was going to try his best, but Anais was still conscious of the fact that he hadn’t been back to work yet and it had only been about a week since they got home. Things could and would change and Anais still wasn’t sure how Atlas would react to the new situations. She had to remind herself often that she needed to keep her wits about him and be careful. The intimacy of their conversation and the atmosphere had caused her to let her guard down and be completely honest with the alpha and now she didn’t know what would happen.“You refer to the penthouse as my house, not our house,” Atlas told her. “You haven’t felt at all like it was your home?”Anais sighed and briefly closed her eyes. She didn’t really want to have this conversation now. In fact, she was hoping that they wouldn’t have to tal
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY THREE: . “You’re sure you’re ready for this?” Atlas asked her. Anais turned and smiled at the alpha. “Atlas, it’s been a week. I think it’s time.”“Do you think it’s time or are you ready?” Atlas asked. Anais nuzzled into Atlas’ neck. She scented the pure icy clean fragrance of her mate and she let out a soft sigh. “Both,” She whispered.Atlas’ arms tightened around her and he hummed. “Anais…” Anais pulled back. “Atlas, it’s time,” She said firmly. “I don’t know that I’ll ever be ready. I’ve hidden away and it hasn’t made a difference. I’m not sure how comfortable I am with being in the news all the time, but you are and I am your mate. You’re not the only one who needs to do some things differently. This is part of you and your life and I can’t hide forever.“The media needs to see that I’m healthy and whole and that we are ok. They won’t go away and I’m sure there will be plenty of nasty things said about me, but I
Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas .Chapter FIFTY TWO: . Anais blinked her eyes open sometime later and smiled when she felt the strong arms of her mate holding her. She realized she must have fallen asleep. She stretched slightly and huffed a laugh as she remembered another time she woke up disoriented in this position. She turned slightly and glanced over her shoulder to see Atlas awake and smiling. “Something funny?” She asked.Anais shuffled and Atlas loosened his arms enough for Anais to roll over to face him. “Just remembering the first time I woke up like this,” She said. Atlas smiled back.“I remember it was a bit of a shock,” he replied drily.“Just slightly,” Anais laughed. “How long was I out?”“About forty-five minutes,” Atlas told her. “Not too long, but you need to rest, so I wanted to let you sleep.”Anais nuzzled further into Atlas’ embrace. “Thanks Atlas,” She mumbled. “Are we going to go to the store?”“If you want to, Anais. I’ll do whatever you want.”“
