Branch Two Hundred and Fifty

The car ride was silent and Jessica wanted to break it. She just did not know how to do it. She waited for him to say something but he pretended like she was not in the car with him.

She cleared her throat and her eyes darted to him several times. She saw his jaw tighten. It was obvious that he was angry but was trying his best to keep himself together.

"I thought you had left" she finally found herself saying in a squeaky voice that did not sound like hers.

"I was about to leave but then I realized that you did not bring a car with you," he said his eyes on the road never wavering.

She was glad he was focused on driving but that he did not look at her meant that he was still very angry. She did not need a soothsayer or a fortune teller to tell her she was in the wrong.

"You should always bring a car with you. You can drive yourself or ask any of the drivers to bring you. They are getting paid after all" he said his jaw still tightened more than ever.
