Jessica and Xavier spent a little more time with Dawson until they both decided to go to work. The air between them was awkward because Dawson had teased them both saying he could smell love. Claiming he was old enough to recognize one when he saw it. Xavier offered to drive Jessica to work even though the air was tense. The road trip was quieter than one would think. "Your friend," Xavier said out of the blue. "My friend?" she asked turning to him. She was glad he broke the silence. It was better for them to talk to each other than to allow the air to loom heavy on their necks. "Yeah, the one at the police station that time," he said. "You mean Emma?" she said. The name alone left a bitter aftertaste in her mouth and she hated it. She had not seen what Emma did to her coming. She always regarded her as a friend so she wondered why she did that. "So that was her name?" Xavier said looming onto the road with a little morning traffic. "Did you block her?" he asked. When Emma had
The rest of the ride was with a little chat from both parties and a little silence alternating both ways until he finally dropped her off. She put some things in place before she returned home to make lunch. She concluded that since she could not take Dawson back home with her she might as well give him home-cooked meals. She made a quick lunch and then packed it. One of the things Xavier made sure to hammer on was that she should not come out without having one of the drivers take her out. "They are not for decoration. I pay them salaries every month, you should make good use of their services" in his exact words. She had Ian drive her to the hospital first. It was closer and she wanted to make sure that he ate first. By the time she entered the hospital room, she met a sleeping Dawson and a caretaker who told her that he had fallen asleep not quite long. She dropped the lunch box and the caretaker promised to ensure that Dawson ate the meal once he woke up. She left in a hurry
"I know you are very busy and I did not want to take up much of your time but the lady downstairs told me I must deliver it myself so here I am. I will drop this here and be out of your hair" she ranted. "It's lunchtime why would anybody be busy?" he asked as he stood up from behind his desk. "I thought you were having a meeting with Brian?" she asked as she watched him walk towards her. "He was asking me out to lunch," he said and she nodded. "Are you not going to sit? This is your first time here and you are in a hurry to leave?" he asked as he sat down on one of the chairs. She looked at him as if she was searching for extra approval before she took her seat. She sat on the same sofa as he did but she put a little space between them. "This is the lunch I brought for you," she said dropping it on the table before them. "Have you had lunch?" he asked. "Not yet, I plan to have some when I get back to the mansion" she replied. "We can share this one," he said nonchalantly as h
The word wife from Xavier's mouth was all Jessica needed to have butterflies swimming around in her stomach. She cleared her throat to hide her excitement. The lady she had seen on the deal outside of his office came in a few minutes later with a new set of cutlery. Jessica thanked her as he left the place. "Have I told you?" Xavier asked as Jessica wiped down the table with the disposable napkin she put in the lunch box. "That?" "You do make the best meals," "Better than your hotel staff?" she asked teasingly. Of course, she was not expecting him to agree. It would be a lie if he did. Those chefs were trained in the biggest and most prestigious schools in the world. All she ever did was go to a small college where she could barely learn anything. Most of what she knew she taught herself by practicing with uploaded videos on the internet. A vague recollection of her days in college flashed before her eyes. She remembered having to work part-time and then using the money she got
They shook hands on their new deal. "I thought you were going to draft a contract?" Jessica asked. "What?" "You know like the one you did when we first met," she said as her voice trailed off. "I should have but I want payment for the investment in another way" "What other way" she said dusting her hands together and turning to him. "Well, that you would be the one to cook my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a very long time" "Are you asking me to still cook for you even after the divorce?" she asked shocked. "Well I guess that is fair, you are paying to upgrade my skill and you want me to cook for you for a while then I ask that it is fair enough, Deal," she said ranting away. "That is...." "Well, I guess I could always get the meals delivered to you. The meal would not take up much of my day" she continued cutting him off."Jessica," he said hovering over her hand before placing them gently on her."That is not what I meant" "What did you mean? She asked gulping hard. "I am
Her sweaty palm made her try to remove her hand from his grip but he tightened it and started her straight in the face. "You don't like it?" he asked. His voice was low and she found that situation dangerous to her. "I don't know what to say" she started when he inched closer to her. The smell of his cologne engulfed her nose. "Are you confessing and saying we should break off the contract?" she asked. He blinked multiple times. He did not know why he was saying either. What did he want? He did not know but he knew that he wanted to be with her, to be able to see her like this, to hold her hand too. "I don't know if what I feel is love yet but I know that I do not want to let you out of my sight even if it is for a moment. Lately, I don't know what has been going on with me. I hate it when you speak and laugh in front of other men" A smile crossed Jessica's face as she heard that. That line was something that one would hear in a movie. "It drives me crazy. Very crazy" "I don't k
"I better be on my way then," Jessica said standing up and looking around in a haste. "Leaving already?" "Your secretary just caught us trying to kiss," she said in a whisper as she put her face close to his. "And so? I can't kiss my wife?" he asked and she felt herself blush so hard. She raised her head and cleared her throat. "At the office? No. I am sure that by now the whole office knows what has happened here" she said. "Let them know, who cares? That way no lady can approach me" "You do not care but I do," she said picking up the lunch box on the table and turning to leave. He grabbed her hand before she could take a step forward. He held her hand firmly and stood up. "So are you going to leave without actually kissing me?" "Let go, Xavier," she said with a giggle as she tried to wiggle out of his grip. "You always have to finish what it is that you start" "What did I start? I never started anything you did" she said pointing it out to him."And that's why I want to fi
"This is my private elevator ensure to use it next time," Xavier says as they enter and the door shuts. "Next time? What makes you think I will be coming here next time?" "You just promised in there to deliver food to me since I'll be investing in your talent," he said in a duh tone. "Yes but I can use a delivery service to achieve that" "Don't you dare" he said as he narrowed his eyes. "So you want me to hand deliver every lunch?" "Yes and of course you can come in to visit me once in a while too," he said. "Come on Xavier, using a delivery service would be faster and that means I don't have to leave work" "Don't you want to have lunch together?""It would be a nice idea" "Then why are you turning me down?" he asked perplexed. "When did I?" "Me saying you should hand deliver every lunch is a way of me saying we should have lunch together every day from today. No matter what it is I will clear my schedule to have lunch with you" "Oh," Jessica cleared her throat as she star
