Rain's POV.

Her eyes widened considerably before she called herself to order. This was all the information I needed to know that she didn't want to get married. It was probably a response to her traumatic experience but this was one of the things Lawrence was going to tell us. I only wanted her to accompany me so that she understood the gravity.

She leaned towards me before whispering, "but we are married, do we still need a grand wedding to prove that?" She inquired.

I shrugged slightly before texting Lawrence to better have a good reason to convince her. "Sadly yes, it could be contested that we are not married and that the certificate is fake. We are going to do the whole process and enjoy it. I don't think it should be the thing of surprise right now. We should instead be planning how we would shock Lucas and Cheryl. I hear they are also planning a wedding." I informed her, hoping that she would see the need for us to be really invested in that.

Her brows furrowed, her lips a b

Zyrielle's POV. Rain was acting weird as we walked back to the car. I didn't want to pester him so that he didn't feel like I was a burden. I just really wanted to know what was happening to him so that I could understand my next line of action. "Is anything the matter?" I inquired from him but he still didn't say anything. Instead, he went ahead to smile. "We have an impromptu visitor in the house. She might be staying for a while." He informed me which was quite surprising because I wasn't expecting him to just bring someone home. "Okay...?" I asked."So, I want you to be very calm. She can be problematic sometimes but it's a phase and it will leave before you can blink." He prepared my mind for this person. That did nothing to quench the inquisitive part of me, it made me even want to know who exactly this person was. Was she some ex-lover?"And who might this person be?" I asked again since he didn't think it was necessary to tell me more details about this person. "A friend

Zyrielle's POV.I knew that I could be considered to be acting relationally but that didn't stop the fact that I was right in whatever actions I decided to take. This was simply not right and I wasn't going to allow anyone to bamboozle me into accepting it. Rain had spoken a lot about how he has always wanted me and I was starting to believe it, but with all the evidence presented before me, I didn't know what to think. This wasn't even the case of whatever I felt for him. He had to be accountable to his words so that I would trust him. "So, you are practically saying that I am a liar and a cheat, is that what you mean?" He inquired and I shrugged casually. He wasn't making it easy for me to defend him. "You know everything that I suffered with Lucas, if you keep on bringing up signs that send the wrong signal to me, what do you want me to expect?"Rain glanced at me before heading into the bathroom. He wasn't going to speak with me because he knew I was speaking nothing but facts.

Zyrielle's POV. I waited for a few minutes so that I didn't say anything wrong. He touched my back and I melted in his arms. "What?" I replied while staring at him softly. "So what do you want to do with this attraction that you feel for me? We both know that this isn't heading anywhere. We know the constraints behind our relationship so what exactly are we doing?" I inquired from him hoping that he did not ask me further questions because it was going to ruin everything that I had going on for me. "So... This is what I want us to understand. We can only get the right answers if we are open to each other. What exactly do you want to bring out from this relationship? Do you think that it can progress into something more or it is all about revenge? I want us to be as honest as possible." Rain said. He was asking a lot from me because I didn't want to talk about it. The fear of getting burnt again was enough to send me running whenever I heard a person telling me that he loved me. "

Chapter 74. Zyrielle's POV. The aroma of tea wafted into my nostrils and I opened my eyes instantly, watching as Rain walked towards the bed with a tray in hand. This was very lovely to watch and I felt warm inside. The memories of last night's events played in my mind and I felt very shy about it. "Don't tell me you are shy about everything that happened?" He inquired from me and I raised the sheets in shyness. "After everything that we have done?" He inquired and shook his head. "What?" "Exactly... I have been thinking about it and decided that we need to go on a vacation. Only you and me in the desert." He spoke while lowering the tray on the bed.I reached for the mug and inhaled the good scent. I think it was Eucalyptus. I needed some invigoration after all the events. "How do you feel today?" He asked and I looked up, remembering that he was present with me. "You look radiant, I must say." I beamed because even I felt lighter like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder

Zyrielle's POV. It was time for my next consultation at the hospital and I anticipated what could come up again. Since Rain and I were now on good terms I didn't think that he would be angry with Dr Sanchez even if I spent a lot of time with him because I needed to understand what was going on.“Are you ready for the next scan?” Rain inquired, popping his head into the bathroom. “you are almost done. I need to take a quick shower also so that I don't waste too much time today.” He muttered to himself before walking into his closet. I was not going to stop him from doing whatever and I expected that he extended the same grace to me. “Are you okay with me visiting Dr Sanchez?” I inquired from him so that we got that clear. I also wanted to visit my former house but didn't know how to tell him because I knew his bias against his brother and quite frankly I did not also think that I wanted to have any conversation with that couple. “Yeah you can visit him as long as he keeps his finger

Zyrielle's POV. Arriving at the house that I've once called my own sent me down memory lane but I had to call myself out of it. I wasn't here to think about the things that had been instead, I was here to focus on things that should be. There was a clear difference between both of them and right now I wanted to exploit that. My mind was running with different ideas but I kept on calming my nerves. It wasn't going to be easy but with extreme patience, I could pull it off. The security man ran towards me with a smile on his face, probably in excitement but I also saw a bit of wariness in those depths. He was probably wondering why I was here and his boss was not around. It wasn't my place to explain a lot to him but I could just beat around the bush and hope that he did not stress me out. "Hello Maxwell, fancy seeing you here after a while. I thought you might have gone." I said sincerely, it wasn't rocket science that Lucas might have wanted to get rid of any one who was related to

Zyrielle's POV. My heart skipped a bit immediately when I heard Mel's voice. I didn't know where to go. I decided to hide behind the door, "Where is Lucas?" She called and I heard a thud on the floor. Was she here with someone? Cheryl, perhaps?"What exactly is wrong with your son that he has refused to put a ring on my finger and is making me feel lesser than I should?" I heard a foreign female voice and I almost stumbled in surprise.Who could this person be for them to demand that Lucas marry them? "I have told you that my son does not need any pressure. He already has a fiancee, whom you also know so why the problem?" She replied. This wasn't making any sense. Was Lucas getting involved with someone else besides Cheryl? This was one of the wildest things that I had come across in a long while. This didn't make sense. Lucas was just one bastard that needed to be brought to book. "You have been telling me this same thing for the past how many months? He has refused to take re

Zyrielle's POV.Of all the things that could be sent about Lucas, this was the last thing that I would have expected from him. I knew that he would probably be involved in some shady deals but not to this extent. This was problematic, and I thought about it; I probably dodged a bullet. If he was involved in some trafficking like this lady claimed, that meant that my life would not have been safe with him and this was the best option. At that moment, I was thankful that Rain had saved me. Lucas always presented himself like someone who couldn't hurt a fly and that was one of the reasons I fell for him. How did he grow from having nothing to getting control over my mother's business and still being greedy enough to get into another phase? "You don't talk about my son that way. If you have a problem with him, you should deal with it instead of trying to pour your frustration on someone who just wanted to have a child. I was the one who pushed for it; now that he is backing out, why don

Zyrielle’s office was filled with the warm afternoon sunlight, showering a soft glow on the sleek furniture and the framed photographs that hung on the walls. She stood by the window, sipping her coffee as she gazed out at the bustling street below her. It was hard to believe how much her life had changed. Her fashion business had blossomed into one the biggest brands in Wisconsin; you couldn't even walk into a boutique without seeing her clothes. Every major fashion house in the country seemed to want a piece of her, a lot of them offering a large amount of money to have her relocate. She had declined their offers of course. Moving out of Wisconsin wasn’t part of her plan, this place had become her home. Not just that, it was also a matter of pride. She built this business with her bare hands and she'd be damned before she gave it away to strangers. She placed her cup down and walked over to a dress form draped in one of her latest designs. Running her fingers over the delicate embro

Author's POV.The sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Zyrielle’s studio, painting the room in golden light. The soft hum of her sewing machine filled the air, a comforting rhythm that steadied her nerves. She stood back from the mannequin, her fingers trailing over the fabric of her latest creation. The dress was a masterpiece, an accumulation of everything she had learned and done to get to this point. Her fashion business was finally taking off, and every day looked better than the last. Orders flooded in, collaborations were just on the horizon, and she felt, for the first time in years, that she was finally making progress. And yet, a strange unease simmered beneath all of it.Zyrielle shook her head and glanced at the clock. “Maybe I just need some fresh air,” she muttered, grabbing her bag and stepping outside. The city greeted her with its usual hustle and bustle vibe. The chatter of pedestrians, the distant honking of cars, the scent of freshly baked pastr

Rain's POVLife had a funny way of stitching moments together—victory, love, and the occasional unexpected twist. Today was a day stitched in gold. As I stood in the kitchen, holding a steaming mug of coffee, my thoughts drifted to the woman sleeping upstairs. Zyrielle. My wife, my anchor, the woman I loved more than life itself. The mere thought of her brought a smile to my face. After everything we’d been through, the surgeries, the sleepless nights, the worry—I could finally breathe again. She was here, alive, and so were our babies. Life felt like it was finally clicking into place, and I swore to myself that nothing would stop me from building the future I’d dreamed of.As I sipped my coffee, my phone flared up on the counter. I reached to pick it up, barely glancing at the screen before answering.“Rain Lark,” I responded, giving my new surname, whilst leaning against the counter.“Mr. Lark!” an excited voice burst through the line. “I have fantastic news! Zyrielle’s PovI felt my toes curl up slowly against my cold feet as I gained consciousness. The first thing that came to my senses was the crisp sheets of the hospital bed and the very strong stench of antiseptic.I thought I had gotten accustomed to it by now but it striked me each time.I groaned a little as I tried to lift myself to sit up with my eyes glued shut. My body still ached all over, but I was certainly feeling more energized. For the first time in what felt like weeks, I wasn't drowning in absolute pain.Instead, I felt— alive. My eyes finally fluttered open, and the first thing I saw was Rain, sitting by my side in a cushioned chair. His deep blue eyes were focused on me, his expression a mix of relief and hesitation. He wasn’t touching me, though, just sitting there like he didn’t know what to do with himself.I found that oddly cute.“Rain,” I croaked out, my voice weak but steady. I needed something to drink, I couldn't understand why my throat felt so dry.His li

Zyrielle's POV. "I want you to tell me if you feel any pains in your body." The doctor told me just before I was taken into the theater. I took a deep breath and watched my husband shake at the thought of me going inside the machine and being operated on. It was a 50/50 chance of survival and we knew what this meant. One of us wasn't going to come out alive and I hope that it wasn't my kids. "Can I speak to my husband before I go in?" I responded instead and Rain jumped at my side immediately. I had never seen him this angry in my entire life and out of his wits. If there was a way he could take away the pain from me and inflict himself instead, he would have done it, and my heart went out to him. Marcus also watched us from the glass mirror and acted as a moral support but it wasn't going to be enough to quench the way my husband felt about this situation. I was certain that he would punch the doctor if it ended up not going well. "I need you to be strong for me and the kids. We

Rain's POV“Please you have to try”“I understand, Mr. Rain, but my hands are tied. I can't take on a case like this. I'm sorry.” With that, the call ended, and I clutched the phone tightly in my palm. This couldn’t be it. That was the third hospital to refuse to operate on her but I wasn't giving up, not when her life was in danger.I kept scrolling through the endless list of contacts. Each name blurred together, none offering the solution I desperately searched for.“Rain,” my father’s voice broke through the haze, he was also searching for a doctor who could help me. I was glad for his support because I couldn't do this alone. “Any luck?” He questioned, and I shook my head, defeated.“We’re running out of options, I can’t lose her,” I murmured in a pleading tone. “She’s everything to me, my life will be meaningless without her in it”“We won’t have faith,” he assured, his tone firm, though his eyes betrayed his doubts. “I’ve reached out to my network and there's someone who might

Zyrielle's pov.My head throbbed badly as I regained consciousness; slowly, I blinked back, forcing my eyelids open to the ceiling of the hospital wards. The room was quiet except for the soft beep of the machine and footsteps. I angled my head spotting Rain pacing in the room.I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain in my side made me wince, forcing me to lie back down. "Rain... I called out barely more than a whisper, but it was enough to catch his attention. He froze mid-step, his broad shoulders tense as he turned toward me."You're awake," he murmured rushing to my side. "Finally.""Finally?" I repeated, bewildered. "What do you mean, finally? What happened? How did I end up here?"He didn’t immediately answer, his eyes scanning me as though checking for any signs of injury. His jaw was tight, and for a moment, he hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. Then, he let out a low breath, stepping closer to the bed."How are you feeling?" The question came out soft, almost too gen

I tried to move and tried to get away but I couldn't move.I was trapped.“Goodbye, Zyrielle,” she sneered, raising the knife and stabbing me right in the heart.“No!” I cried, jolting awake. My breathing ragged and I was sweating profusely.Instinctively, my arm clutched my chest, feeling my heart this rapidly; I wasn't injured. It was just a dream yet why did it feel so real?I felt a nudge by my side and I turned sharply, finding Rain half awake beside me. His arm was draped over his forehead, his brows furrowed even in rest. Reaching out, I touched his shoulder, my fingers trembling."Rain," I whispered, my voice cracking. He stirred, blinking slowly before turning his head to look at me. "Hey, you good?" Zyrielle's POV.I shifted uncomfortably in my spot watching Rain clench and unclench his hands on the steering wheel. The tension between us was so palpable you could slice a knife through it, I didn't like the silence between us. I know he was worried still it didn't feel right."You're too quiet," I finally ventured, my voice cutting through the stillness like glass breaking. "Stop overthinking. It’s going to be fine."Rain’s jaw tightened, his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he kept driving. "When we find her it will be fine," he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper."Do you have any support on this? Were you able to convince them to help us out or are you trying to play the hero and do this alone?"For a while, he didn't reply, and I could tell he was battling with whether he should tell the truth or not."I’ve got a few," he finally admitted, his voice flat, devoid of the confidence I’d hoped to hear."A few?"
