Talia squeezed her thighs around his head, blocking his ears so that there was nothing and no one else but her, and Parker could not have wished for a better place to be. She came with a shuddering cry, her body pulsating as she rocked against him. Her thighs went lax, and Parker lifted his head to see her face. She had a soft smile and dazed eyes and it was so fucking sexy he couldn’t not kiss her. He crawled up her body and sealed his lips over hers. She kissed him back, opening to him and tangling her tongue with his.

“Your turn,” she said as she pushed at him.

Parker let her roll him over and watched as she climbed between his legs.

“Natal—” he started, but she shushed him and then took his cock in her mouth.

Parker groaned as his eyes fluttered shut.

“I’m not going to last,” he said, trying desperately not to come in the three seconds she had him in her mouth.

Instead of answering him, or pulling off, she hummed, the vibrations ricocheting through hi

Parker didn’t know what to expect when he walked into The Playbook offices the next morning. Carter knew that he and Talia were a couple now and that could mean one of two things; Carter would freeze him out or he would pile shit on him until he was drowning in it. What he didn’t expect was for Carter to treat him as if the revelation of the night before had never happened. Parker sat through the morning meeting waiting for Carter to make a snide comment or totally ignore him, but…neither thing happened. When the end of the meeting came and Carter asked to see Parker in his office, Parker thought for sure Carter was going to tear him a new arsehole. It was with a tiny bit of trepidation that Parker knocked on Carter’s door and opened it. Carter looked up from his computer and glanced at Parker before looking back down at his work. “Take a seat,” Carter said. Parker sat, nerves making his leg bob. He wasn’t scared of Carter, but he did have a level of respect for him. He knew

“As much as I hate to agree with you, I think you’re right. He’s so blinded by his own failings that he sees you as his only way to regain what he lost.” “But I’m a person,” Talia said. “You are,” Parker agreed. “You are smart and intelligent and beautiful and an adult of sound mind. Your only mistake was trusting someone who should have had your best interests at heart, and that’s a mistake any one of us could make.” “But doesn’t that just prove I’m incapable of making my own decisions?” Talia asked. “How do you figure that?” “If I can’t even determine that Mark was someone I shouldn’t have trusted, doesn’t that mean I have impaired decision-making ability?” Parker snorted. “I think you’re overthinking this,” he said. “And I don’t say that to make light of what you’re feeling. You didn’t just fall for some conman, this was your father. If we can’t trust our own parents, who can we trust? Plus, it didn’t happen all at once. It happened over a period of time and by degrees.

Going outside. Going out into the public. Sure, she’d been ‘outside’ in the last two months, but…but there was always a purpose. Talia was going somewhere, or doing something, or…or Parker was with her. Facing the great outdoors on her own…? Then again, Melbourne CBD was hardly ‘the great outdoors.’ “I can chuck a sickie and go with you,” Parker said. “I’m sure Carter wouldn’t mind.” Talia really wanted to say yes…but she needed to do this without Parker or Carter as a support network. If she was going to become an independent woman and take control of her life, then she needed to do it without the scaffold of, well, everyone. “No,” Talia said, shaking her head. “I’m going to do this on my own.” Parker watched her carefully for a long moment before he nodded. “Okay. You’ll be fine. You got this.” “Yes,” she replied. “I got this.” Parker pressed a kiss to the top of her head before walking to the door. “Call me if you need me to come and get you,

Parker looked at the photo on his screen again. It was definitely Talia. Barring any photo manipulation, she was definitely coming out of a baby shop. Parker grimaced. ‘Baby shop’ sounded wrong, but he didn’t know how else to phrase it in his head. He might also be focussing on the wrong thing because he was a little too freaked out about what he was seeing, namely Talia coming out of a store that sold baby items, carrying a bag with the store’s logo on the side, and laughing. Parker did not for one minute think Talia was pregnant. Okay. There may have been the initial fleeting thought about the viability of the contraception they had been using, but that was only natural, right? He knew there had to be another explanation and when his mind stopped freaking out, he could identify the other women Talia was with—Mia and Peyton. Parker also knew Peyton’s sister was pregnant, and the logical deduction led to Talia going into the store to help Peyton buy something for her sister. The c

So what if her jeans felt a little snugger around her waist than before? Talia shoved another mouthful of ice cream into her mouth. So what if her t-shirts were a little tighter across her boobs? Did that make her a bad person? Did that make her ‘less than’ because she didn’t look the same as before or because she didn’t fit someone’s arbitrary ideal of what a woman should look like? Which was complete bullshit anyway. Who got to choose what women looked like? Who got to say what was ‘normal’ and ‘ideal?’ Women weren’t cookies that got stamped out of a factory and the improperly formed ones tossed in the garbage. Women—all people, in fact—were individuals with complexities even science struggled to understand and should be treated that way. She didn’t see anyone complaining about her being starved so she would look like a teenager for two decades, did she? No, because apparently, that was okay, but to actually gain a bit of weight and have curves and boobs meant she had somehow failed

Slowly, he turned back to face Talia’s brother. Carter was standing behind his desk, fists resting on the wooden top, eyes glaring at Parker. “What did you just say?” “I’m in love with your sister,” Parker enunciated slowly. “Although, she should probably have been the first person to hear that, and not you.” “You’re in love with her?” Carter growled. “Are you seriously pissed at me right now?” Parker asked. “I tell you I love your sister and you’re upset? Shouldn’t you be more upset if I said I wasn’t in love with her?” “Fuck,” Carter said, straightening and sweeping his hand over his face. “I don’t know what I am right now. This is all so fucking messed up.” “Yeah, it is,” Parker agreed. “That’s why I think we should do something.” “And again, I ask you. What the hell are we supposed to do?” “I don’t fucking know,” Parker replied, exasperated. “I just can’t sit around and do nothing.” Parker began to pace again. “Go home,” Carter said. “G

Parker walked into the morning meeting the next day with confidence. He knew what he had to do, and he knew how he was going to do it. The fact that Talia had told him she loved him also put a spring in his step, not to mention the lovemaking they’d indulged in the night before and this morning. With Talia snuggled into his side as she slept peacefully in his arms, Parker had spent the night rethinking his entire career and making plans for a new one. Well, not exactly a new one, but a new trajectory at least. It would not be easy, he knew that, but he’d already taken the first steps in this new direction and the feedback had been positive. Parker just hoped the rest of The Playbook team would back him up. He sat in his seat and couldn’t erase the smile from his face. For the first time since he’d written a story, Parker felt like he had a purpose. He finally felt like his job had meaning and he was excited to share it with the team. Talia shared his excitement and even

It was important that he convince them they would benefit from his series, but he also had to be upfront with them. He did not intend to write a fluff piece or sugar-coat any shit that he saw happening. Parker wanted to establish himself as a legitimate journalist who produced quality, factual pieces. He was done trying to please the public with rumors and innuendo and he was even more done with the practice of putting celebrities on a pedestal. Sure, they should be respected for their talents, but so should everyone else. Being famous didn’t necessarily make them any more valid or worthy of being idolized. Now, if they were doing something worthy of being idolized, like solving world hunger, then he would gladly install them on a pedestal. “May I help you?” the front desk person asked when he approached. “I have an appointment with Min Young,” Parker said. “My name is Parker Grey.” The man confirmed Parker’s name and appointment details and handed him a visitor access badge bef

6 months later“Are you ready for this?” Anthony asked as they stood outside the courtroom. Talia nodded and gripped Parker’s hand. The judge had called them back in for the verdict on Mark’s trial and she couldn’t deny she was nervous. The weeks spent preparing for the trial and then sitting through the witness statements and being cross-examined by an aggressive defense attorney who made her out to be some sort of diva and ungrateful bitch who was somehow ripping off the father who had done everything for her had taken its toll. And the media beat-up was just as bad. However, not all the media had been on her father’s side. Talia had discovered she had far more supporters than she’d thought. Her fans—the true fans—had gathered in force to support her and she loved them for it. Not enough for her to consider going back into acting, but enough that going through the trial had been bearable. But if not for the constant and unwavering support of Parker, Talia didn’t think she woul

Parker rolled his eyes as he took her hand and stood. “Seal the deal?” “Isn’t that what you said earlier?” He shook his head, his grin still in place. “No, I said celebrate.” “Okay, good. Let’s do that then.” Parker grabbed her and lifted her up, making Talia squeal. He kissed her and she wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his shoulders. Stumbling, he carried her to the bedroom and tossed her on the bed with a flourish, making her squeal again. “I feel like we need champagne and strawberries or something,” Parker said, standing with his hands on his hips as he looked around the room. “You mean like pouring champagne in my belly button and licking it out?” Talia asked, lifting her shirt to reveal her navel. Parker cocked an eyebrow. “Hmm…that’s something to think about for a later celebration,” he said. Talia pouted. Parker held up his hands. “I don’t have any champagne on hand,” he protested. “Then I’ll just have to

“You called Isaac,” Parker said when he walked into the apartment. Talia looked up at him and bit her lip. “I did,” she said. “But before you get mad, I didn’t say anything about what happened. And I did it because I knew you wouldn’t say anything to defend yourself.” Parker sighed. “I’m not mad,” he said, walking over to where she was seated, working on her miniature diorama. He leaned down and kissed her. “I’m grateful. Thank you. What you said to Isaac helped.” Talia grinned up at him. “So, they’re going to let you do the article?” Parker nodded. “They are.” “That’s so great,” Talia replied. “So it all worked out.” Parker pulled out a chair and sat down beside her. “Things have worked out for me, but what about you? What are your plans now? Without Mark controlling your every move, you can do anything you want.” Talia dropped her head and fidgeted with her fingers in her lap. “I don’t know what I want to do,” she said quietly. “I don’t think I wan

Talia pulled back from the kiss. “Don’t you think it was pretty selfish of me not to sacrifice myself for you?” she asked. “No,” he said, reaching up to tuck some hair behind her ear. “What you did wasn’t selfish, it was survival. There’s a difference. Me expecting you to sacrifice yourself for my job would have been selfish. Are you doing what you need to in order to survive? Not selfish. Not in the slightest.” “It feels selfish,” she mumbled, leaning her forehead against his. “I feel like I need to do something to make it up to you.” Parker cupped her face. “Talia,” he whispered. “This is not some quid pro quo thing. There will be times when you will save me. I have no doubt about it. That’s how relationships work. It’s swings and roundabouts. There is no big tally sheet in the sky and nobody is keeping score.” “I just don’t want you to feel resentful—” Parker cut off the rest of her sentence with a kiss. “How could I be resentful of the fact that I get to have you in my l

“She’s asleep,” Parker said, coming into the living room from his bedroom where Talia had finally succumbed to sleep. He slumped onto the couch beside Stephen and laid his head on his father’s shoulder. Anthony looked over at him from where he was sitting, going through some paperwork on his laptop, and Carter paced, not able to sit still. “I take it the article came out,” Parker said. “Yeah,” Carter replied with a sigh as he raked his hand through his hair. “It’s going to do us some damage,” Parker said. “Maybe,” Carter said with a shrug. “Maybe not.” Parker frowned at him. “What does that mean?” “It gets your name out there,” he replied. “It will drive people to your blog.” “Fucking hell, Carter,” Parker exploded, jumping to his feet. “Seriously? You think this is a good thing?” “I didn’t say that,” Carter replied. “I just said it wasn’t necessarily damaging to us.” “And what about Parker asked. “The article would have tanked that de

Anthony had filed a police report as soon as he arrived in the city. “Their hands are tied,” Anthony said with a sigh. “There is no evidence of force and as she recently hid from the public because of a scandal, we have nothing to say she isn’t doing it again because of the latest issue.” “But can’t they force her to at least speak with them? To check that she’s okay?” Parker asked. “As far as they’re concerned, she has just gone into hiding again,” Anthony reiterated. “Until we have something to say otherwise, they can’t do anything. This has the potential to be a high-profile case because of who she is, so if they make a big deal about it and it turns out to be something innocent, it might blow up in their faces.” “That’s bullshit,” Parker growled, pushing up from his seat to pace around the room. He hated that he was sitting there doing nothing while Talia was trapped in her father’s house. It was torture to know where she was and yet not be able to get to

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” Talia said. After Mark’s big reveal the night before, Talia had been left to sleep off the effects of the sedative he’d given her. The fucking bastard. He’d locked her door so she couldn’t get out and the window was too far from the ground for her to escape that way. Not without breaking something, anyway. Which Talia wouldn’t have minded, except with the way she’d been feeling, the thing that got broken might very well be her head, and she was kind of attached to it being in one piece and remaining on her shoulders. So Mark had stalked her and Parker and then kidnapped her and drugged her and imprisoned her and he was under the impression that he was perfectly within his rights to do so. “I’m doing this for you,” Mark said. “Your mental health is at stake here.” “The only threat to my mental health is your arsehole behavior,” Talia snapped. They were sitting in the sunny kitchen at the table and Mark was trying to pretend that it

Carter clicked his fingers. “The original photos, the ones that were taken when you took her out to look at the miniature street art.” Carter turned to Parker. “You were in some of those photos. Your face was blurred, but that could have been done after the fact.” “So he’s been following me?” Parker asked. “You and Carter. Both would be my guess,” Jack said. “So he’s been following us, but how did he know I was sending a car to pick her up?” Parker asked. “Have you noticed anyone following you?” Carter asked. Parker shook his head and then paused. “What?” Carter asked. “What’s that look?” “It’s probably nothing,” Parker said. “Just say it,” Carter said. “I was speaking to Talia just before I went into the meeting he said. “When I hung up from the call, I bumped into a guy…you don’t think…nah. It can’t be. This isn’t some espionage movie.” “Could he have overheard your conversation?” Jack asked, leaning back in his chair and looking up

Parker was on a high. By all accounts, Atticus was on board with his proposal. Isaac just wanted to check in with the rest of the band before giving him a definitive answer. That was fine with Parker. Things would go much more smoothly if everyone was in agreement. The last thing he wanted was a hostile environment and if any of the members had misgivings about the proposal, then he would walk away. It would hurt, but he would do it. For this to work—for everyone involved—there had to be open communication and a willingness to participate. Without that, Parker may as well give up now. He climbed into his car, cursing the parking ticket and flapping on his windscreen. Getting out again, he grabbed it from under the windscreen wiper and shoved it into his glove compartment. The Playbook could pay for that. It was the price of doing business, after all. He turned the music up loud as he navigated through the heavy traffic toward his apartment building. He couldn’t wait to tell Ta
