Lauren’s POV
Rising the next day, Ade had left. The marks on my body reminded me of what happened last night, a symbol that it was all real.
Thinking of his strong body, the warmth of his hands as he touched me, and the soft flitter of his kisses, I was flushed.
Last night, I lost my virginity.
Lying in the tumbled sheets, a slight wave of regret came over me. A maid suddenly entered, tearing me from my thoughts. She informed me that I would be responsible for the cleaning of the room in the future.
How did I suddenly become the maid? But, at least I am safe for now.
“If you’d like, can I show you around?” She offered, and I agreed.
“Just give me a moment,” I asked, changing back into my clothing. Joining her, she began to take me around the new setting. In the communal outdoor area, a group of people passed us by, and I could tell that two of them were clearly distinguished.
The first was an elder Alpha exuding a powerful aura that I had never witnessed before. I hadn’t seen this Alpha, but you could sense his power even from a distance. The rest of the group respectfully followed behind him and another man was at his side.
Immediately recognizing that it was Ade, it was surprising that my mate was the younger one. He showed such strong energy that I automatically assumed he was the Alpha of his pack.
As soon as he noticed me standing there, he gave me a meaningful smile, his eyes lighting up instantly. He walked over to me, taking me into his arms.
“Behave yourself! You’re going to get married!” The elder Alpha scolded.
“Father, I’d like to introduce you, she is my mate…” Ade informed the Alpha.
His father?
“But I’m afraid I cannot fulfill my promise to marriage,” Ade continued, his tone apologetic as he spoke, despite the fact he was rebelling against his father’s authority, he still showed him respect in his words.
“Adam Evans!” Bellowed his father, “A she-wolf with unknown origin doesn’t deserve to be your Luna, son.”
What did he just say? Adam Evans? In a second, everything changed.
So, I’m in the Ironclaw Tribe, and Ade, no, Adam, is the Alpha who was ready to marry me before my Pack was destroyed? How can it be? Fate.
My own father had waited at the border with his werewolves, ready to greet the Ironclaws’ Alpha and his son. This is what had caused the rebellion when my Uncle and Mother knew Father would be unarmed. With the bloody disaster that ensued, I wondered how much Adam knew. I suddenly felt sick to my stomach.
Staring at the Alpha, the fiancee Adam had spoken about…was me?! A whirl of thoughts smacked me.
Was he an accomplice to this rebellion? Have I just given away myself to a man who helped kill my father? Does he know who I am?
“What’s wrong?” Adam chuckled, noticing the sudden change in my face, “You don’t want to anymore? Don’t forget last night you—”
“Shut up! Liar!” shouting back at him, “You’ve been playing me this whole time!” I shrieked.
He didn’t understand my sudden reaction and strong change of heart.
“I’m just kidding, I didn’t mean to hide my real identity from you. It’s just when I usually tell women who I really am, they tend to get carried away. I felt something different with you, something I haven’t before, and needed to know it was real,” he reassured me, giving me that deep stare.
But the anger building inside me was undeniable and I was just about to rebut when a sickly-sweet voice interrupted.
“Adam, I’ve been looking for you everywhere! I can’t wait to show you my new dress! I’ll be the most shining one at our engagement!”
I knew that tone. It was Teresa, and my body turned to stone. Adam was still holding onto me, but even he could sense my tension. He tightened his grip around me, symbolizing the protective force he felt toward me. But everything made me even more confused, and I couldn’t help feeling betrayed.
As soon as Teresa recognized that it was me, her face changed instantly; a look of shock, horror, and utter scorn surfacing.
“What the hell are you doing here?” She spat at me while turning around to face the crowd, looking for backup.
“Wait, do you know each other?” Adam asked in surprise.
This confirms what I thought…Can things get any worse?
Before I had the chance to lay out my thoughts, or question either of them, Teresa immediately yelled out at the top of her lungs.
“Get her! She’s the daughter of a rebel! Do you not know who she is? How can you take in a prisoner?!”
Lauren’s POVUpon hearing this, the Alpha King’s face changed. “Arrest her!” He ordered without giving me a chance to explain. “Whoever dares to hurt her is against me!” Adam roared. I was thankful for my mate’s protection, and it was a gesture that told me what we have is real. But I couldn’t help the swirling thoughts. There were so many questions. But now was clearly not the moment for these answers. “Father, you know better than anyone, and as Alpha of this Pack, that killing one’s mate is a felony. We had an affair, and we have mated. She will stay, and I won’t stand for anything else,” Adam forced, his indignance signaling he wasn’t going to budge. Even if it wasn’t the most appropriate time, I didn’t have enough control over my body when it came to Adam, and his sudden declaration towards me turned me on — despite the circumstances. However, staring at him as he defended me, there was a small part of me deep down that still niggled at me. My complex feelings were confusing.
Lauren’s POVTeresa let out a loud cry of pain, and her maid arrived just in time, hurrying to pick her up. Scrambling up from the ground, I saw a man’s figure in front of me with a distinctive air of aristocracy about him. Standing tall, his pristine hard leather boots gleamed in the sunlight. The light danced off his muscular face, outlining his sharp features. He had a distinct smell to him, and even when not moving, his presence demanded respect. Teresa was arrogant and domineering by nature. She had always felt like she needed to prove something. But she had changed even more since Father’s death. Even if the man was clearly an Alpha, she showed no signs of remorse and scolded him rudely. Before anyone had time to warn her about her disrespectful behavior, the Alpha unleashed a powerful force. A chill fluttered through the air, and oppression filled our bones, nearly causing everyone to kneel. Teresa flinched, and I also felt a strong pang of discomfort. Recognizing his iden
Lauren’s POVWithout thinking, I immediately stepped between the brothers, trying to explain that it was just a misunderstanding. “No, wait, please!” I begged, but it was too late. Adam remained undaunted and jumped on Dean. I moved out of the way; it was obviously no use. It was wrong to think that Dean was no match for Adam. Resisting Adam’s attack, Dean broke out an equally powerful force and fought back. The two tumbled, paws flinging through the air and their claws flickering in the light. Even though Dean was not Alpha King’s legitimate offspring, I realized that his power shouldn’t be underestimated. His wolf was almost as powerful as Adam’s.Who the hell is he??? Abruptly, a sharp pain shot through my body, and suddenly, Alice’s weak voice spoke to me. “Alice, is that you?” I whispered, soft enough so that the two fuming brothers would not hear. But she just hummed. Was Alice back? Perhaps it’s because I slept with Adam that Alice was re-energized, but I didn’t know enou
Lauren’s POVThe next morning I was exhausted. The familiar feeling of shame overwhelmed me again. Adam didn’t quite mark me, but he had the ability to control my body’s reactions with ease. Is this what happens when mated? There was barely anything I could do but surrender to my Alpha. My body naturally submitted to Adam. I turned over to look for my lover next to me, but he wasn’t there. “Get up, I’ll be waiting for you at Pasture’s Pine.” Suddenly, I heard Adam’s voice in my head. It was the first time he used mind-link to communicate with me. It was startling. “Hmm, looks like he’s going to trouble you, dear,” came another voice. It was Alice! But still, I couldn’t see her form, nor could I feel the power of the Wolf. She’s alive! Maybe one day I’ll regain my ability to shift. And control it…“Alice, what happened yesterday?” I questioned her, eager to learn from my Wolf. “Well, it’s most likely because you’re in a relationship with Adam. Was there another Alpha?” Alice’s
Lauren’s POVInstead of giving up, my challenger’s provocation stirred my desire to win more intensely. Maybe this is what I needed? As the former Alpha’s daughter of the Crimson Moon Tribe, I had never been humiliated like that! ‘You come from strength, Lauren, remember that,’ hearing an inner voice. Maybe it was Father speaking through me. It gave me the final encouragement I needed to put an end to this. “Work smartly,” my father had taught me, and that’s what I needed to do now. Letting her think she had the upper hand for a few more seconds, I waited for the right time, and then, with all my force, I swung up and onto her, rolling her over and throwing her to the ground. Using everything in me, I whacked her hard. Realizing I wasn’t as strong as I used to be, this didn’t deter how agile I still was. Father told me it had always been one of my advantages. Now that I was on top of her, I couldn’t stop myself. Just when I thought I was going to kill her, I halted, reminding
Adam’s POVWith each fleeting second, curiosity got the better of me, and I found myself wanting to know more and more about this little she-wolf. What kind of she-wolf could attract both my brother Dean and me at the same time? I hadn’t heard of it before, and more so, she didn’t even have a Wolf? How was it possible? My wolf Eric liked her too, but one of the first things he mentioned was that he didn’t feel the Wolf in Lauren. This had struck me as odd, and I found it very weird. Her Wolf has already shown up once before, how and why did Eric feel otherwise? I trusted my Wolf above anyone and anything. It left me feeling perplexed. Perhaps a battle would bring out a side to her that no one knew about? Pondering over the thought all night and the following morning, I deliberately arranged for her to participate in training with some of the younger wolves that day. Although she was my mate, I wanted to challenge her, and specifically chose one of the stronger she-wolves to figh
Lauren’s POVThe morning light woke me from a deep slumber, feeling flecks of warm rays on my face. As soon as I opened my eyes, I felt a throbbing pain in the back of my neck, and a familiar smell that almost enveloped my whole body. Instinctively reaching to my neck where the pain was emanating, I felt a bulge of skin. Immediately looking in the bedside mirror, there was a temporary mark in its place. What did Adam do to me last night? Why don’t I have any memory of it? Was I that tired? The slight tingling coming from my neck made me blush. Although Adam is my mate, our relationship is purely based on transactions from both sides, and it’s impossible to be together like real mates. More importantly, I have my own revenge plan … Suddenly, I remembered what Teresa had said. The two packs had an intention to cooperate from the start. Once they succeed in their alliance, my path to vengeance will be much harder. Facing the Pack’s interests, I wasn’t certain that Adam would stand b
Lauren’s POVThe she-wolf who was so arrogant a second ago was now instantly timid, saluting respectfully to both Dean and Jacob as she apologized.I was already surprised by Jacob’s appearance at the doorway that when I noticed Dean, I remained frozen. Thoughts came flooding through. Adam’s words kept ringing through my ears, and I also wondered why Dean was back again. He seemed to just show up out of the blue all the time. Does Adam know Dean is here? And speaking of Adam, I wonder where he is???As if reading my mind, Dean raised a bushy eyebrow at me. He said nothing, but it was as if his intense stare could see straight through me. “Not saluting?” Interrupted Jacob coldly, snapping me out of my thoughts and frozen position. At this point, I couldn’t afford to offend either of these people. “Apologies, Beta Jacob,” I quickly said, imitating the she-wolf’s salute, not wanting to upset any apple carts. “I didn’t see you enter, please forgive my bad manners.” “Hmm,” mocked the
Dean’s POVWhile Father spoke with Alpha Jed, my mind drifted away. Lauren’s soft face still lingered in my head, which seemed to be a regular occurrence lately. From the moment I met her, I instantly felt a deadly attraction towards her. Her scent still stuck with me, even when she wasn’t around. My wolf, Owen, also told me he wanted her; that he craved her with every part of his being. Something like this had never happened before. It made me all the more curious, and if I’m being honest, made me want her more. Whenever Lauren seemed to be in danger, Owen roared in my head: ‘Protect her!’ It was an amazing sensation, like a kind of addictive poison. I didn’t want the feeling to go away, and I knew neither did Owen. Her fair skin, beautiful blue eyes the color of a forest stream, rosy lips, and even the slight point of her nose… “Dean, what are you thinking about?” Father’s voice brought me back to reality, but I could still feel the warm rush of blood swimming through my veins
Lauren’s POVAlthough my father was no longer with me, as Alpha’s daughter, it would be a great shame to be labeled as a breeder. I didn’t reply to Adam’s father, the Alpha King of this pack. I’d rather die and sacrifice my own life if it meant saving my family’s dignity. There was no way I would allow the humiliating label to taint my family’s honor and name. But no one knew the real truth. Gazing at Alpha King, I almost wanted to die then and there and take him with me. But before there was time to implement these ideas that lay deep in my heart, Dean preemptively changed the subject. “Father, Alpha Jed sent an envoy this morning. He wants to discuss the alliance affairs with you,” he informed Alpha King, “and by the way…the Crimson Moon Tribe hasn’t experienced much peace lately. I thought you would want to know.” It was smart thinking on Dean’s behalf — although hearing about my home tribe panged my heart, and made me feel a little nervous, this was an important matter Alpha
Lauren’s POV“Don’t beg him!!!” Adam gasped and growled. As wounded as he was, Adam was prideful. Trying to stand up, he fell to the ground once more. Now, he was badly hurt, and in so much agony, was unable to keep his wolf shape. Trembling, the black wolf disappeared, leaving a disheveled Adam lying on the shattered stone ground. However, he was still trying to summon his last bit of strength but struggled. This is enough! How could a father treat his own son like this? But then again, look at what Mother did to me I guess; her daughter…As Alpha King raised his hand again to punish his son, I stepped forward and threw open my arms. “Lauren!” Dean interjected. He didn’t approve of this and pleaded for Alpha King’s mercy for me. “Father, no. Leave her out of this. This is between Adam and I.” “No, it’s not. She is the one that has caused all of this uproar, Dean,” Alpha King said with finality. But Alpha King didn’t make the next move. He simply repeated his question. “So, an
Lauren’s POVDean paused in mid-air the moment he heard my roar. Everyone’s eyes were now fixated on me; it felt like hundreds of needles pricking my skin. An undeniable massive force rose from my chest. I know that’s you, Alice. My sleeping wolf sensed that our mate was in danger. She seemed to appear out of nowhere when I needed her most, but I wished she would stay with me forever. Breaking free, I rushed to Dean, and with all my might, threw him off Adam, his teeth still dripping in blood. My strength surprised me, but I had come to realize that this was another gift from Alice. Even though I wasn’t able to transform into my wolf, she provided me with power whenever I needed it most. But Dean didn’t dodge my attack, instead, embraced me into his arms. Straight away, he shifted back into human shape. As his wolf transformed, we stumbled backward, and his back crashed down onto a stone pillar, and together we fell onto the hard ground. One of his hands wrapped around my waist
Lauren’s POVAlpha King was irritated by Adam’s behavior — the look upon his face filled with disappointment and scorn. After all, his son had sided with me over him. He ordered his soldiers to capture him as punishment without saying anything to Adam. “Take him away now!” At Alpha King’s command, the magnificent palace instantly became chaotic, and the King’s soldiers took their position, ready to obey their Alpha’s command. The guards surrounding Alpha King all took two steps forward. The soldiers on the outskirts started edging closer, creating a half-moon shape in front of Adam. Enclosing in on him, the last two soldiers on either side pulled out a set of chains. All the while, Adam still kept his wolf form. As soon as he realized the seriousness of his father’s orders, his wolf immediately went into fight mode. Snarling at the crowd, Adam’s wolf stepped backward. In a flash, he encircled one of the soldiers on the outer perimeters and whacked him to the ground with one swe
Lauren’s POVThe inside world was very luxurious, even more so than the exterior appearance of the palace. Many soldiers stood guarding every corner, extending from the entrance to the interiors, showing the majesty of nobility. Statues depicting werewolves and half-humans lined the stone walls, alongside other motifs, and a massive chandelier hung from the middle of the ceremonial room’s ceiling, dripping in hundreds of lit candles. Lines of long wooden tables extended from one side of the room to the other, where banquets were often held among the Tribe. Alpha King sat on his embellished throne, looking at me condescendingly. He wore a thick fur coat, dangling on the stone floor beneath his throne. To my surprise, Dean was there, too. He stood beside Alpha King and smiled at me as I neared Alpha’s throne. At this time, he bent down and whispered to Alpha King. Watching their every move in a bid to figure out what the situation meant, I noticed Alpha King’s face soften slightly,
Lauren’s POVMy body froze, unable to move from its spot, and I felt a chill run down my spine. I never expected Adam to be so perceptive. Had I given him any clues? No, it couldn’t be.What would happen if he knew my real identity? Is he going to hand me over to Uncle or Teresa if he knows the real truth?“I…” As I hesitated to find the words, the door opened. “You, come with us,” one of the soldiers unkindly instructed, signaling to another standing with him to tie me and take me away. “Stop! Who allowed you to do this? Did you not hear me, I said STOP! That is a command!” Adam flung the soldiers out of the cell as he spoke, and let out a powerful roar of Alpha. The two soldiers were now writhing on the ground in pain, clutching at their bodies. While this was happening, Jacob suddenly walked in, entering the cell. Surprisingly, he rebuked the two soldiers’ actions and then proceeded to salute Adam respectfully. “I’ve been ordered by Alpha King to take the she-wolf away for int
Lauren’s POV“Adam! Have you forgotten who you are?! How dare you speak to me like that!” Alpha King bellowed. It was as if I could feel the Earth shaking as the Alpha King spoke to his son. Teresa wasn’t expecting to mess things up, at least not in this way. She probably never expected Adam to defend my honor like this. “Adam, don’t be a fool! Don’t fall into her trap and her selfish ways,” pleaded Teresa. But no one listened to her and Adam simply ignored her. “I will never allow anyone to bully my mate. If she is guilty, I am willing to be punished alongside her. We are one. We will face whatever it is you have in store for us, together,” Adam informed his father and those standing nearby. He burned all his bridges at this point. Despite the turmoil it caused between the werewolves, and most importantly, Alpha King, my heart couldn’t help but soar as Adam defended me. It spoke volumes of his character. Naturally, Alpha King was livid and was not expecting his son’s reaction.
Lauren’s POV“What are you thinking? It’s your turn,” the werewolf nudged me, tearing me from my thoughts, once again. Coming to my senses, I warned myself not to easily empathize with others. Adam still had a family and status, but I had lost everything. At least he still had that, and the same for Dean. He still had a father. Focus on your training, Lauren. You need to take every single chance to become stronger. Remember why you’re here. Standing up, I shook the sand off my clothes. Gathering myself, it was time to put everything aside and prepare for my new match of the day. Strangely, my new partner was in a tremendous state of excitement. I could tell she wanted to kill me and wondered if she had witnessed the battle between the she-wolf and myself yesterday. Her breathing became heavier with every movement, and from the onset, she bared her fangs. There wasn’t a moment when they weren’t out on display. She was out of control! Dodging her attack again and again, her wolf c
