"I'm sorry. I know it's too late to say this. But I think we should break up," Karl Jackson said calmly while handing a wedding invitation card to Ashley White, his current girlfriend. They both just finished eating dinner at an outdoor restaurant.
"What? You're kidding, right?" Ashley took the card and scanned it. She looked back at Karl and that man only showed a serious gaze. She read the card again and saw the bride-to-be was Lucia Darcy, her nemesis since high school.
"Karl, you can't do this to me. We'd been together for five years now. How could you..." she stood up immediately and Karl stood up as well, trying to calm her down. There were a lot of people there and Karl did not want Ashley to make any ruckus.
"Since when?" She asked with a broken voice.
"I'd been seeing Lucia since five months ago..."
"And you decided to marry her? We'd been together for five years but you choose to marry someone you had just known for five months?!" She almost lost it.
"To be fair, I know Lucia since high school. We all went to the same high school, Ashley. I knew her as long as I knew you too," he tried to justify his decision.
"But you cheat on me... You could have told me five months ago. Why did you only tell me now? Now that you wanted to marry her!"
"I didn't want to fight with you, Ashley. I cared for you so much and I know I was wrong to break your heart like this. But I had made up my mind. I'm sorry that you are not the one for me. Knowing Lucia made me realize that there's something about you that just didn't feel right to me."
"What? What is it that didn't feel right to you?" Ashley was truly frustrated at this moment. She stared at her now ex-boyfriend, waiting for his answer. She really wanted to know what were the things that he felt were wrong with their relationship.
"I don't feel excited anymore when we did it in bed... Not as much as when I did it with Lucia," he was a bit hesitant to say it.
"What?" Ashley was truly flabbergasted by his words. He just shamelessly admitted that he had slept with Lucia too. Her lips trembled so much as she tried to suppress the curse words that were trying to come out of her mouth. Her gaze went down, looking at the wedding card again. Then she scoffed in bitterness, still couldn't believe that the man she had poured her whole heart out was betraying her and going to marry the woman she hated the most.
"You know what... I'm going to your wedding... And I'm going to congratulate you like a sane person. And I'm going to bring another man with me. I'm going to prove to you that I, Ashley White, could replace you with someone better in less than a week," Ashley proclaimed her resolution to him clearly and left.
She walked back to her car elegantly, still maintaining her chick posture even though deep down inside, her heart was crumbling into million pieces. The car engine was started and she drove off immediately, didn't even look back at that bastard. Ten minutes into driving and her eyes didn't want to concur with her. Tears streaming down her cheeks and she began to sob uncontrollably inside the car.
Ashley's vision went blurry and she stopped the car at the side of the road. She didn't even know where the hell she had driven herself to. There was an old vintage-looking bar at the side of the road and she went in there without having a second thought. She really needed to drown her sorrow away.
"I have a glass of whiskey, please. The strong one," she said to the bartender. Seconds later, her drink arrived. She gulped the whole glass in one go.
"Wow. Easy, lady. That one is strong," someone approached her and sat beside her.
Ashley glanced at him for a bit and then she gestured to the bartender to give her another glass.
"Just bring the bottle here," she said loudly and the bartender did as she demanded. She poured down the whiskey into her own glass and drank again. She did that until the bottle was half empty. The man sitting beside her didn't even move a bit. He stayed there as if trying to take advantage of her.
"Why are you still here? Can't you see that I'm not interested?" Ashley glared at the man. She could see he formed a faint smile on his face.
"I'm just looking out for you. It's not good for a young beautiful woman like you to be drunk alone," that man said. He scanned Ashley's body and saw that she had the perfect body for a model.
"Have you ever heard about Golden Ratio or divine proportion?" He began to start a conversation with her.
"What's that?" Ashley pretended not to know. She took a fashion design course during college, of course, she had heard that terms before.
"It's a perfect combination of female body measurements. And it's extremely rare to find a woman who has such measurements," he replied in a way as if trying to impress her. He scanned her body again and this time, Ashley noticed the movement of his eyes.
"What do you think you're doing? Checking my body like that, mister?" She reproved him.
"Sorry, I just thought that you maybe have a Golden Ratio type of body," he chuckled and smiled ravishingly.
'This man is weird,' Ashley thought. But she was too drunk to make a deal out of it. She just ignored his gaze that was still looking at her like some kind of prey. She drank her whiskey again, trying to knock herself out that day. She really just wanted that day to be over.
"Do you mind if I check?" That man talked to her again. Ashley turned to him and saw him taking out a measuring tape from his suit.
"That's weird! Why would a man carry a measuring tape with him?" She ridiculed him and laughed. Yet, she still adhere to his request and stood up, letting him check her body measurements. The man only smiled while measuring her.
"You got to tell me your name. You're so weird, I wanted to remember you," Ashley said drunkenly, still laughing at him but the man remained silent.
He was done measuring her body and he stood up in front of her. He stared at her with his eyes filled with amazement.
"I never found one before. Not even once. Miss, do you know how to do modelling?" That man's voice suddenly turned serious.
"I'm working at a local boutique as a designer. I don't do modelling. I just design clothes for them," she replied. Her body staggered as she went to approach the stool again. She sat there, ignoring him. The man sat beside her again and still looked at her with amazement.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" She got annoyed at him for staring at her for too long.
"You got a Golden Ratio body..." he made a remark. Seeing his serious face, Ashley laughed even louder this time.
"What nonsense are you talking about? How can I have a Golden Ratio body? I eat a lot of food. I loved food. I eat a lot..." she ridiculed him again.
"I don't know how. But you did. And you're coming home with me tonight."
"What? No no no..." she shook her head in refusal. She stopped talking to him and just focused on her drinks. The whiskey bottle was now empty, yet she still remembered the fact that her boyfriend cheated on her for five months.
"That bastard!!!" She suddenly yelled and was about to throw the whiskey bottle to a wall behind the bar, but got stopped immediately by the man who sat beside her.
"Yo, man! That was close. Do you know this chick? Someone got to get her home. I almost got in trouble just now. My boss would kill me if something wrecked inside this bar," the bartender lost his cool after Ashley tried to throw the whiskey bottle before.
"Here. I'll pay her bill as well," the man who was holding Ashley just now took a black card from his wallet and gave it to the bartender.
After paying for their drinks, the man took Ashley out of the bar. Right now, she was totally out. Another man in his thirties approached the one who was holding Ashley.
"Mr Grey, who's this?"
"I don't know her name either. Haven't checked it yet and she's too drunk to tell me. But I found her car key inside her coat. Here, take it and drive her car back to my villa. I'm sure she parked around here."
Just one click from the car key and Ashley's car that was parked in front of the bar made an unlocked door sound.
"Found it!"
Thirty minutes later, a black Lamborghini Aventador arrived in front of a three-story modern villa. Ashton Grey carried the woman he found at the bar before out of the car and into his house."Karl you scumbag!!!" She suddenly shouted and hit his chest a few times."Who the hell is Karl?! Why am I getting hit because of him?" He yelled back at her.He entered a lift and pushed the button to go to the third floor. There was no way he would carry that woman to the third floor using the stairs. In less than a minute, the lift doors were opened and he walked towards his bedroom immediately.Ashton carefully put that woman down on his bed. He took off her coat and her heels. Then, he went into the bathroom to change his clothes into sleepwear. The time showed ten minutes before twelve, Ashton went out of the bathroom again and was startled to see the woman on the bed sitting there silently and scanning the room."Oh gosh! My goodness! My heart almost dr
She could feel her heart was pounding hard when that man turned around again to face her. She knew what he meant, and honestly, she thought that he would be the best rebound she could find to piss off Karl on his wedding day. But it sounded so pathetic if she was to beg that man to help her. So, she pretended as if she didn't understand him instead.Ashton slowly approached her again and leaned his head closer to her."Let me be your husband, not just for his wedding day, but forever..." he whispered to her ear captivatingly that she couldn't help but gasped in disbelief. Then he straightened his body again and waited for her to respond while looking deeply into her eyes."But I just met you... I don't even know you...""I make roughly about one hundred billion dollars every year. You don't have to know me that much, I can assure you that you will have an easy life if you be my wife.""But why me? Why do you even want to help me?" She stared
She stared at the woman in front of her with widened eyes. Certainly, Ashley looked very pretty, with perfect body proportion, that was something that Miss Lily knew Ashton Grey was very particular about, fair skin, flawless face and long healthy wavy brown hair. Miss Lily gaped as she realized the perfect details of Ashley. 'This woman was a perfect muse, like a goddess. She would certainly look pretty in everything,' the manager mumbled internally while covering her gaping mouth. "Is she... the Golden Ratio..." Miss Lily was about to ask about Ashley's body measurements. "Yes. She is. I'd checked. I think she would fit size one," Ashton answered confidently as if he was proud about it. "Well... then it would be super easy to find your wedding dress, honey. We have size one for all the collections," Miss Lily smiled widely and approached Ashley. She excitedly escorted her into the female fitting room, getting interested to let her test all the dresse
"See? That's chemistry right there. We're really compatible with each other," Ashton joshed at her and smiled ravishingly. Ashley just chuckled. He stood beside her and pointed his hand at the mirror in front of them, asking her to take a look at their reflection in the mirror. They both looked like a match made from heaven. "This is what we would look like tomorrow," he remarked. "You seriously going to hold the wedding tomorrow? Don't you need like some kind of time to prepare all that?" Ashley felt unsettled by his words. 'Could this man really pull a wedding in just less than twenty-four hours? Don't he have family members or friends that he needs to invite in advance before he holds a wedding?' She wondered internally. "Yes. Why? You're not ready yet? Your ex's wedding day is less than a week. We should hurry up if you want a husband during his big day. Besides, we need to adjust things at home as well since we're going to live tog
After lunch, Ashley went upstairs to the bedroom on the third floor to rest while Ashton and Archer went to the back garden to check the wedding arrangement for tomorrow. They both sat on the chairs while staring at the small low stage decorated with white roses flower arch behind it. Ashton's villa was located on a hill and behind the house was the view of the sea. The sound of the sea wave rushing to the shore gave a calming atmosphere to the wedding venue. "Have you really thought it through this time?" Archer asked seriously. "Yeah... there's no point in waiting. It's been five years. I should move on," Ashton replied. "What if Layla suddenly returns? What would you do then?" "Don't jinx my wedding, Archy." "No, seriously. What would you do if she suddenly returns?" Ashton went silent, collecting his thought over that matter. Layla Jones, that name had been haunting his heart for years. That woman was two years younger than him, hi
Hana was lost for words. They both went silent for a solid one minute. "I... Where's the wedding? I don't think I can come tomorrow. Samuel needs to go for outstation tomorrow for a week in another city and he asked me to come with him. He literally didn't have the heart to let me take care of Max alone for a week," Hana said, feeling guilty that she might not be able to attend the wedding. "He wanted to hold the wedding in the back garden of his house. It's just going to be a close private wedding. It's fine if you can't go. I just wanted you to know. I don't have any other family members to tell. You're the only sister I have even though we aren't blood-related," Ashley replied slowly. "I'm sorry, honey. I really wanted to go but Samuel would be sad if I and Max don't follow him." "It's okay. I understand. I'll send you some photos after the wedding." "By the way, who's that guy again? What's his name?" Hana just remembered that she hadn't asked that guy's name yet. "Ashton Gre
"How did you know him? I mean... he was very low profile to be exact. I have never seen his face before. And I searched his name on the internet just now, they rarely had his picture in the articles. Just a few pictures of his side face but never showed his full face," Hana was weird that it was so hard to find Ashton's full face or full body pictures on the internet. That was kind of rare for someone who was rich and famous. "He was only famous with his name. And he strictly banned the media from publishing any of his full-face pictures to the public, or else he'll sue them. You're right. He's a very low profile person. I met him a few times actually. He always hired Infinite Designs Architecture to do the designs for his boutiques and branch buildings. I guess he just loved our design ideas." Infinite Designs Architecture was the company Samuel worked for. He was one of the senior architects in the company. "Anyway... I can't believe that your non-blood sis
Ashley did as told and about twenty minutes later, she came out feeling fresh and smelt so good. Then, Flora checked her armpits and her legs brazenly."She didn't need waxing. Proceed to do her hair and her makeup," she said to her assistants.Someone escorted Ashley towards the vanity mirror and made her sit on the chair in front of it. Her hair was blown dry and styled beautifully. At the same time, someone was giving her face a makeover as well. Since her skin was fair, they decided to give her a simple and fresh looking face for her makeup.Lastly, she wore her wedding dress and someone helped her to put on the jewellery set for her neck and her ears."Stunning! She's done!" Flora exclaimed in satisfaction while looking at the beautiful bride of Ashton Grey in front of her. The whole stylish team was staring at Ashley in adoration too."We still have time. Miss White, if you don't mind... can we check something?" Sandra said while glancing at
Ashton didn't care if she was not in her right mind right now. Maybe tomorrow she would probably forget all about it. But what he did care about was the fact that at this very moment, he was finally sure that he loved Ashley so much and that he couldn't imagine his life without her.A smile formed on her face and she wrapped her arms around his neck, clung herself to him and teasingly said to his ear, "I love you too...""My husband is so rich, handsome, kind-hearted and generous human being," she added fondly."That was a lot of adjectives for one person," he joshed."How about adding some more like loving, charming, gentle and irresistible too?" He played along with their witty conversation."That too... But I don't like seeing the other women being nice to you when you're being nice to me...""What's that supposed to mean?" He was confused and then glanced at her that now was just resting her head on his chest, closing her eyes as if talking while asleep."There were some models at
He had married this woman for three months, yet he did not even know that she could not swim. He turned his head swiftly, looking at their pool with his gaze showing a worried expression."From today forward, you're banned from getting nearer to the pool. That was now a restricted area for you. Don't go there. You need to have a swimming class first," he firmly said to her, having his heart anxious now.His mind began to imagine her falling into the pool when no one was around and that thought scared him so much. 'What if she drowns? Gosh, drowning is such a horrible way to die.' That kind of what-if situation began to attack his mind and it suddenly got him feeling paranoid.Martha came to the dining table to refill their drinks and Ashton suddenly gave her some unnecessary extra task."Martha, from now on, you have to make sure my wife doesn't go near the pool, okay? She didn't know how to swim. She might fall in there and drown," Ashton said seriously and that made the servant stun
Hana, along with her husband and their baby finally left the villa after bidding goodbye. Ashley still pondered over Hana's words in the living room even long after that woman had gone. She just sat there on the sofa alone while staring at the floor. Her husband had gone upstairs to take a quick shower and changed his shirt because the smell of barbeque stuck on him. 'Appreciate what you have,' that was the one that kept repeating on her mind like a broken record. She did not know how long she had been sitting there, but the lights in the living room were suddenly turned off by someone. "Are you going to sleep there?" Ashton's voice came from behind her. She turned her head around only to find him standing behind her, leaning his body closer and wrapping both his arms around her shoulders. "You smelt good," Ashley said softly, having her nose got pierced by the exquisite scent of the expensive body gel Ashton usually used. "And you smelt barbeque, I wanted to eat you," he replied h
Karl whimpered even more. He had the back of his body resting over the edge of the bed while he sat on the floor. But now he felt his whole body trembling and getting fragile. In seconds, his body slowly fell to the floor, just lying there like a melted jelly. The floor got wet from his tears and the empty red wine bottle that he held was released, lying flat on the floor just like him. "I want you back... I want you back... Tell me how to fix this..." he whispered hoarsely to her through the phone. "You... can't... There's no way to fix this. We're really... over this time," Ashley found it hard for her to speak properly while holding her tears in. "I want you back..." Karl kept repeating those words to Ashley like an insane person. He just stared blankly towards nowhere while his hand gripped his phone hard as if that was the only way he could reach Ashley. Back then, when he decided to marry Lucia, he thought that maybe someday, Ashley would still come back to him, willing to b
There were some drinks inside the limo and Ashton's hand reached for the bottle of whiskey. He poured some into a glass and drank it. He gestured his eyes asking Ashley if she wanted some, but she shook her head. "I invited Samuel and Hana to our house tonight for dinner," he said, and then gulped the whiskey in one go. "You did?" Ashley responded rhetorically. They were quiet again, having nothing to talk about. Ashton still staring out of the car window, pondering over the things that happened at the clubhouse. He kept pouring himself the whiskey until it was the fifth glass. Ashley stopped him from pouring more. She had never seen him drunk before and she was scared to see him losing his conscience, so she stopped him before he did. If she was not there, he would probably be going to drink more because he felt like this was a day where he needed that. He tried to act like he was unbothered by what kind of relationship Ashley used to have with Karl. But it was really hard because
He was well aware that all his family members pretty much still loved Ashley like she was part of the family. But she was now married to Ashton Grey. Karl did not want to offend that man in any way so he tried to hinder his mother from speaking with Ashley too much. "Why didn't you tell me that Ashley was coming? She should have sat with us in the front row before. She was part of the family," Lily reprimanded her son immediately. "Mom, she-" "How terrible were you to do this kind of thing to her. I helped raise her like my own daughter and now you just threw her away for a richer woman," Lily cut her son off. She was so disappointed that Karl did not end up with Ashley. "Mom, I-" "Shut it. Ashley, let's sit with us. The others will be so glad to see you again. You haven't come to our home for like months. We all had missed you very much, dear," Lily grabbed Ashley's wrist and tried to bring her to the table of Karl's family members. "Mom, don't..." "Aunt Lily, I can't..." Ash
"I thought you were over him completely," Hana approached Ashley with two glasses of champagne in her hands. She gave one to Ashley. "Where's Sam?" Ashley asked and Hana pointed her finger at one corner of the hall showing Samuel was having a casual talk with Ashton again. "They both seem to get along quite well," Hana commented about their husbands. "You think so?" Ashley responded unconsciously and Hana nodded. The two were silent while watching the wedding couple dancing. After they both finished the champagne, they put down the glasses on the table and started chatting again. "Do you think what Ashton did back there was too much? Too harsh maybe?" Ashley brought up that topic. She wanted to hear what her close friend would think about it. "Can you even blame him? It was harsh a bit I guess, but I think if I were in his position, I would do the same too," Hana replied. "Why so?" "He might look fine, Ashley. But a husband is a husband after all. At one point, even though you
Having sensed that Ashton was picking on Lucia, Karl changed his target instantly and pleaded to Ashley instead."Ashley, please save my face. I can't have this important occasion cancel. My family would be embarrassed if that happens," Karl said beggingly. But Ashley looked away from him instantly and refused to get involved. She glanced at her husband and she could feel a domineering aura emerging from him again.Seeing Ashley ignoring him, Karl finally turned his body and looked at his wife with a mad expression. He could not believe that Ashley would give him a cold shoulder considering that they had known each other for so long and even used to have such a special relationship before. But his heart convinced him that it was his fault to begin with and maybe this was how karma worked on him."Apologize to them immediately," he ordered Lucia and that woman seemed reluctant again. But Karl grabbed her arm harshly and pushed her forward to face Ashton and Ashley.Lucia could feel as
"If five years with me could somehow mean nothing to him now, what makes you think that he would value a five years marriage with you? I really hope you pass the five years of marriage crisis you going to have with him later. And if you did happen to pass it, then I'll congratulate you once again for your marriage," Ashley ended Lucia smoothly."That's it! You need to leave," Lucia was really pissed off by Ashley's words. She did not know how to retort to it, so she took the easiest way to solve it, by trying to get rid of Ashley and her partner from the wedding event."Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you..." Ashton remarked calmly, ignoring the glare Lucia gave him. Instead, he just stroked Ashley's hair lovingly and only had his eyes focused on her."Excuse me? This is my wedding, I rent the whole clubhouse for me to enjoy my big day. I would never compromise your disrespectful behaviour towards me and my husband on our big day. This is unacceptable. How shameful of you to be stubb
