Anna's POV

A few hours later, it was time for lunch and I was starving. I went to the cafeteria, got my lunch and sat at an empty table. I had an AP Chemistry assignment due immediately after lunch break and I hadn't even taken a look at it!

I brought out my notebook and began to do the assignment as I ate my lunch. I was so engrossed in what I was doing that I didn't notice someone had sat down at the table until I finished. Don't blame me, I just love Chemistry.

The person happened to be Mr. Rude from my first day. What's his name? Colton?

Unfortunately, I didn't know that I was staring and he took it as something else. He thought I was checking him out.

"I didn't know I'm this drool worthy", he joked.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, right."

"Then why were you staring at me?" he teased.

"Because I was trying to figure out what in the world you're doing here, like, at this table", I said with a serious expression on my face.

"I want to stay here", he replied.

I groaned. "I thought you're a senior."

"Yes, I'm a  senior. Does that mean I can't hang out with people I like?" he replied.

I shrugged. "It's not to see a popular senior sitting with an unpopular junior."

"You're not unpopular, kid," he said, "you've been putting people in their places since you came here. That's the biggest news here now."

"Yeah, but I'm kinda lonely here", I said sadly.

"You're not lonely, kid. You have me", he said, munching his chips.

"Wow, that really touched my heart", I said sarcastically.

He ignored my statement. "The reason most of them are avoiding you is because of Kimberly. She's the most popular junior. Apparently, she can't believe you're the girl we've all been waiting for", he explained.

I guessed Kimberly must be Miss. Bitchness I met this morning. "Then screw her," I said, "I don't care."

"I like your guts Annabelle," he said, smiling, "anyway, she's ordered all your potential friends to stay away from you because you're an 'impostor'-"

My laughter cut him off.

Wow. So that girl was serious about her accusation.

"Allow me finish before you kill me with your savage laughter", he said with a smirk.

I so wanted to smack his head but waited for him to finish talking.

"Now, as I was saying," he continued as he munched those chips that never seemed to finish, "Kimberly thought that you would be as glamorous and fake as she is, but received the shock of her life when you failed to prove that. She still thinks that you're an impostor and ordered everyone to stay away from you-"

"Wait," I said when what he said sunk into my brain.

"What? I thought I told you not to interrupt me", he whined, irritation lacing his voice.

"You called her fake. How-"

"You think I'm as blind as everyone else?" he cut me off.

"..."

"I can see through her glamour. It's all fake. I just don't know why no one else has noticed. Anyway, I'm just glad she told everyone to stay away from you. It means that you won't have fake friends."

"Oh, thank you", I said.

"No problem", he replied before finally finishing those chips.

"But how come you suddenly care about me?" I asked.

He naturally shouldn't care whether my friends are fake or not since he practically didn't know me.  He shouldn't even give a shit about me.

He shrugged. "I don't know. I just care."

"Okay", I replied. I would manage that answer.

Then the bell signaling the end of recess sounded. It was actually the warning bell. I always mixed it up with the main bell because in my school in Pakistan, there was only one bell.

Colton and I got up and made our way  towards the door of the cafeteria where we would go our separate ways.

"I have a question for you", I said when we got to the door.

"You can ask after school. I'll come get you from your class", he replied.

"Okay. Later then", I said.

I went for my AP Chemistry class. Thank goodness I was able to finish that assignment on time. If you're wondering how I've been making my way around without Brooke, it's because I got a map of the school from the secretary.

I got to my class and took a seat in the middle row. I think I got a liking for that position and my seat was always by the window.

Middle rows are like middle children, they're mostly ignored. That way, I didn't have to get the undue attention I would get from sitting in the front or back rows.

I settled down and brought out my books to prepare for the lesson. I love Chemistry but I had never taken AP Chemistry in Pakistan because there was no such thing. Choosing it when I got here was just the spur of the moment.

The teacher came in. One look at her and I regretted coming to this class.

She was short and had no figure. That is, she was so straight that she didn't even have hips. Her shoulder length hair was dyed bright red. She had quite a pretty face with large eyes, a small nose and red lips. Her facial beauty came more from the structure of her bones than any padding of flesh. When I looked into her grey eyes, I saw nothing but evil and I shuddered. She reminded me of the insanity we left in Pakistan. When I looked at my teacher, I saw her.

As she taught us, I couldn't concentrate. I unconsciously touched the scar under my left wrist and almost cried out. It still hurt after so many years.

"May I be excused ma'am?" I asked as I raised my hand. I just couldn't stay in the classroom anymore.

The woman, Mrs. Ryan, sneered at me and I cowered. "And why do you want to leave before the end of the class?"

"I-I need to go to the bathroom", I answered.

"No", she replied and faced the board.

I sighed and leaned back in my chair. A few minutes later, a girl raised her hand.

"Yes?" Mrs. Ryan asked.

"I need to use the bathroom, ma'am", she said.

"You're excused", Mrs. Ryan responded.

What?!

"That's unfair!" someone screamed from the back.

"Who said that?! Come forward", Mrs. Ryan ordered.

The girl came forward with her chin. My advocate turned  out to be Brooke!

"You can't be unfair to Annabelle. She asked for permission first", she told our teacher.

The woman snorted. "I will run my class the way I choose and there is nothing you can do about it."

Her face as she said that scared me. By now, I was having flashbacks from those days she used to come to our house. They were terrible. I didn't know that I was crying until I felt someone wrap her arm around me.

"Annabelle", she called me.

I didn't respond and I couldn't see her face because my eyes were closed. I was scared that if I opened them, I would see my arch enemy again. My breathing became heavy as more tears rolled down my cheeks.

Finally, I passed out.

The class was in an uproar when Anna fainted. The girl who was holding her before she became unconscious motioned to a boy to help her carry Anna to the school's clinic. When they got there, Anna was immediately taken to a private ward and put in a bed. The nurse checked her and asked them what happened to her. "We were just in class when she fainted," the boy answered. "But I noticed she was crying before she fainted. That was even what made me notice her amidst all that chaos," the girl said. The nurse nodded and told them to wait. "Let me go and get a doctor," she said. As they waited, the girl asked the boy. "Do you think she'll be okay?" "I don't know," he replied to her. Finally, the nurse came back with a male African-American doctor. "Good afternoon doctor," the two students greeted in unison. "Good afternoon students," he replied. He checked Anna again and faced them. "What happened to her? I need every detail of what you noticed," he said. The girl quickly narra

  • ANNA   Chapter 10

Anna's POV Dex parked the car in the garage and I ran out as soon as we stopped. I knew he would notice the difference in my appearance and would ask questions which I didn't want to answer. "I'm home, Kathy," I said as I passed the kitchen. I would go in and say a proper hello but I was too shaken up to talk to anyone. I didn't even know if she was in the kitchen or not but I silently hoped that she wasn't. I got to my room and flopped down on my bed after throwing my bag to some unknown corner of the room. 'How did this happen? Why did my case have to be different? Why couldn't my family be normal like the others?' I thought. "Who did I offend?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I cried. I had to put on a strong, unbothered facade with Colton and Vanessa because I didn't want them in my business but being alone in my room made the tears I had been holding for so long let loose. I was scared, so scared. Mrs. Ryan just had too many similarities with her. Simply looking at

  • ANNA   Chapter 11

Anna's POV It felt good to be back to school. Everyhere was looking the same but even the lockers closing was like music to my ears. I had just come out from history class and might I say that it was excruciatingly boring. Our teacher was even more boring than the subject itself! It was time for lunch and my feet took me to the cafeteria. I sighed when I finally got there. On my way, it felt like I may not make it. I was so tired that I could barely register what was going on around me. I almost walked myself right into a wall even! Oh well, that's over. The cafeteria was a lot rowdier than usual. Given how hungry I was, I shouldn't have noticed that, but the noise was too much and I naturally hate noise. I sighed again and made my way to an empty table after scanning the area for one. I didn't buy the cafeteria food that day because I brought mine from the house. I smiled at the memory of Kathy and I making my lunch. It wasn't much, just potato chips with sauce and some cupcakes

  • ANNA   Chapter 12

Anna's POVSchool was over for the day. I went to my locker to wait for Brooke. Mason and Colton told me they would leave school earlier than us since their grade closes two hours before others. Anyway, I was shocked beyond measure when the girl walked up to me this afternoon before Math class started. I was thinking she had been ghosting me, after all, I never saw her again after we shared Physics class on my first day at Regis. So she said that she wanted to talk to me and I told her to go on, then our stupid teacher choose that moment to grace us with his presence. I sighed as I tried to control my annoyance. Like, why couldn't he come in later? Brooke said we would talk later and asked if I could wait at my locker after school, which I agreed to. After arranging my locker, I leaned on it to wait for her. The hallway was still very busy. Athletes were going to locker rooms to get ready for their practice while the cheerleaders were doing the same thing. I got bored of just watch

  • ANNA   Chapter 13

Anna's POV"I'm sorry for avoiding you", she said. Say what? I thought she had some kind of massive confession to make like they do in the movies. Why else would she make me wait for ages? She was even acting nervous just for an apology? She continued before I could say anything to that. "I avoided you because Kimberly made me. At that time, I thought she had a valid point." I groaned at the mention o f Her Majesty's name. "Which was?" I asked Brooke. "What point of hers was so valid that made you act like that?" "Annabelle, do you know who your parents are?" She asked me insteadI mentally groaned. Who answers a question with another question? Brooke, obviously. Call me evil, but I wanted to strangle her that minute. What did my parents have to do with this? I left her to continue though. "Your mom is one of the greatest fashion designers in the world. Do you know how many people buy their clothes? Have you ever bothered to calculate how much Your Style makes in just a week? They

Colton's POV"Colton Morgan!" My mom yelled and I groaned. I was about to answer her when on second thoughts, I decided not to. Answering her wasn't going to do much anyway, since she was just going to repeat the same words she had been saying since I got home which were "don't make us go late".I adjusted tie I was wearing and deciding that I was looking good enough. I put my phone in my pocket and went downstairs to the living room, where my parents were seated. My dad was reading a newspaper and my mom was fiddling with her phone, probably playing candy crush. What is with females and that boring game? What do they see in it?"You're finally out", my dad said. "I was starting to think that you weren't coming." I rolled my eyes. I didn't want to go but they forced me into this. "It's not like I have a choice", I retorted. My mom put her phone in her purse and analyzed me. "This suit isn't good enough", she said when she was done. I almost fainted at that. Did she really expect me to

Anna's POVDex and I got to the venue of the occasion and he opened the door for me. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't let him do that but it was for appearances. Plus, I didn't want it to seem like he wasn't doing his job. I gave him a grateful smile and he nodded. He was still tense. I wanted to guess that it had something to do with meeting his former bosses but I honestly couldn't fathom how that was even a big deal. Throughout the ride, he was extra quiet and had a frown on his face. That worried me because the Dex I was used to was very jovial and always found a way to get me to converse with him.I took awhile to take a good look at the house before me. It was big, that's for sure. Too big, in fact. On the outside, it looked rich but empty. It didn't have that homely attribute. I liked our house more. Dex and I didn't have to go in before we saw a butler who said he would take us to the party room. When we got there, from the door to it, I could see that it was a very lar

Anna's POVI let out an ear piercing scream. Something that looked very much like milk was spilled on my left arm.I waited for the impact of the liquid but nothing came."What is wrong with you?" The girl who was carrying it asked me. If the situation was better, I would have slapped her. I mean, dude you spilled something on me and couldn't apologize? I guessed she was one of these rich kids who see that as a reason to be rude.Still, I was too scared to argue with her. Instead, I asked, "what was that?""What was what?""The liquid that spilled on me."She scoffed. "It was wine. Haven't you seen wine before? Or maybe your parents just can't afford it."At that point, I was just irritated. Though I was relieved that it wasn't milk, I just couldn't help the anger and irritation that came over me. I

Third person’s POV“Today, we will be having a pop quiz before the actual class begins,” said the strange teacher the minute he stepped into the classroom.“Good morning, sir,” the class rep said “please don’t be offended, but may we know who you are?”“Does that matter?” the man asked.“Yes sir, it does,” replied Chelsea, the class rep.“Well, my name is Leonard Lamberts and I’m your new Physics teacher,” he said with the creepiest of smiles on his face. The students continued to look in at this weird six foot tall man. He was a lanky brunette with a face so red it seemed like he was slapped all over; his neck was long as that of a giraffe. The black clothes he wore were body hugging clothes so they emphasized his thin frame. His face was already reason enough to laugh, then coupled

Anna's POVSitting there in the study, listening to my father's tale was something I hadn't really done in a while. Deep down, I wanted to celebrate this but the situation on ground was too serious for me to do that.I knew that African American woman was up to something. It was written all over her face the first time I saw her in the house. Listening to dad's story was quite disheartening though. There he was, being accused of cheating by a wife he adored with his whole heart. In as much as I always tried to remove myself from their marriage matters, I knew what my dad was capable of. The only thing he knew was that petrol he was dealing and nothing else. He was literally oblivious to anything that did not concern work and to some extent, my mom. That was why I was determined to help him.It seemed like he was at the verge of tears, even. "So your mother is now mad at me because of what her w

Can't you see we are busy?" the African-American woman said."I can't see what's making you busy," I quickly said, giving her the coldest expression I had, an expression I had not used in a very long time."Jasmine," I said, facing the young lady, "where is my wife?" Anna's POVWhy do some adults act like absolute idiots? Why do they find it fun to abuse their power and authority as adults? I could not fathom the answers to these questions of mine no matter how I tried. And here, I thought my parents were bad enough.I sat in the car, looking out the window and enjoying the scenery. I might have hated the United States but I had to hand it to them, they sure did no how to preserve nature. The people's lawns were always trimmed to perfection and the parks looked really nice."We aren't going straight home, Annabelle," Dex said, interrupting my thoughts. I pitied the poor guy. There I was claiming to be his friend when I hardly ever spoke to him. I had been a little withdrawn but he and Kathy took the brunt of it all. I really needed to make things up to them."Okay. Where are we going then?" I asked."Your mom said I should bring you to her office."

Kimberly's POV"Er, Annabelle, no offense this isn't much of a plan." I was scared beyond measure and the plan she came up with wasn't even a plan on its own. I mean, how does going to look for the writer of that article sound like a plan?"We aren't supposed to make an elaborate arrangement. That would only confirm whatever shit they have said and have left to say," she said. "Just trust me."She didn't know that she was asking a lot by that. I had betrayed people and treated them like dirt. I didn't even have the energy to trust myself. She held my hand from across the table. "You'll be fine. Now, let's get out of here."We went downstairs. Let me rephrase that. She basically dragged me downstairs. I was just too scared to go with her. What would people think of me? Would they believe what Annabelle had to say? Of course, some of them would continue to bully me but would they ever forg

Anna's POVIt was another Tuesday. For some reason, I was in very bad spirits. I felt strange, too strange for my own liking. It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that Tuesday was a constant reminder of my beloved nanny's death. Sure, I was naturally sad on that day but this particular thing was something else. I just decided to shrug it off. I felt that it might have been nothing after all. Maybe I was simply overthinking things."Hey, Anna," Vanessa said when I joined her in our homeroom."What's up?" I replied half heartedly."You're up," came the unexpected reply."What do you mean?" I asked. The confusion I felt was evident in the look I gave her."To be honest, I don't know how this concerns you," she began, "but Kimberly is in some kind of trouble and everyone is blaming it on you."I hissed. Anna's POVI threw my parents a deadly glare, one that would make them regret deciding to torture me. "We are so sorry you had to spend your afternoon with those two," my mom said while giving me a hug after we made sure Carly and her brother were gone.I glared at them some more. Carly had insisted on staying in my room until I had to drag her out. By dragging her out, I mean taking her by the arm and literally pulling her away. She sat down on my bed and held on to the frame. I just pulled her some more until she landed on the floor and dragged her out of my room. I then locked it to make sure she didn't go back.Unfortunately for her, I had to pull her down the stairs back to where her brother patiently sat like a normal human being. The part where I actually pitied her a little was when we realized Dex was there. He came to make sure I had gotten home in one piece. From wha

Anna's POVWe stood there. Kimberly stood beside me and the four others stood opposite us. It looked like we were having a sparing match. To be honest, I had no idea why I sat to talk with Kimberly. I just felt something tell me to stay to talk. It was fun though. I resolved that I would do my best to get her out of that bitchy attitude. The Kimberly I talked with wasn't the one who tried to bully me. That was when I confirmed that the attitude she showed at school was far from the real her. Besides, there was nothing wrong with hanging out with her.I sent an icy glare at Mason. What did he think he was doing? What was with all these people who wanted to defend me when I had everything ability to defend myself.
