CHAPTER 6

"No,I don't want to take up your time,you must be tired go to bed I'll go and take a look myself."

"I doubt if I'll be able to go to sleep."She said under her breath.

"Well you look exhausted take some sleeping pills if you must but you need rest."He was about to turn and go when she said.

"For how long do you think you can avoid me and run away from this issue that's hanging over our heads,we are gonna have to talk sooner or later and I'd rather do it now cause after the funeral tomorrow I'm going home."

"And what do you propose we do Miss Woods."

"I have no idea but we have to address this we both don't want to get married and I agree,I don't think I can have a husband who has multiple lovers like yourself and I also wouldn't appreciate the fact if another woman can clung onto my husband,you're a bachelor Mr Torrés,a playboy and due to that fact I cannot marry you.I hope you can understand."

"Of course,I am the way I am and I won't change for anyone including you.Have a good night Miss Woods I'll see you tomorrow at the service."He casually strolled out of the kitchen and that's when she noticed he only had on a pair of jeans and it hugged every inch of his muscular thighs,how could she not have paid attention her mind really was all over the place,she didn't get much sleep that night and when she woke the following morning she felt terrible,she went to go take a bath and upon returning she found a black box on the bed it was neatly wrapped with a ribbon.

Carefully opening it she saw a knee length of the shoulder black dress there was also lingerie and black heels in the box she can only guess where it was coming from clearly her clothing won't suffice she thought.The service went well and no media personnel were allowed all Diana's closest friends had been there even Max's cousins had been there,he had quickly introduced her this morning before they had left for the church apparently they arrived this morning.

Amelia had stayed with a nanny for the day and now they were waiting for Diana's lawyer in the study, Adriana didn't want to be here Max was standing by the window and she can guess he probably has a million things running through his head,she was seated in a chair infront of the desk and when there was a knock on the door Max turned and said come in.

A gentleman entered he was average height,lean built and had grey hair,he greeted them and sat down.Soon the reading of the will was underway.Adriana was surprised that she has left all her jewelry and personal possessions to her,she has even given Adriana a cabin guesthouse outside of Florida her lawyer has already given her the keys.She has also left a beach house to both she and Max where she wants them to raise their future kids together.

Max's parents had told her to give him the house the day he will get married that was suppose to be their family home but unfortunately his parents never got the chance to stay in it.What the lawyer said next made Max curse under his breath,the day he and Adriana gets married he won't get the shares immediately,they have to be married for at least a whole year and in that time a Torrés-White heir should've been conceived before the shares will be automatically transferred to him,till then he'll only own half of the company and in the event that the above requirements are not met,he will lose complete control over the company and business,therefore giving the board full control over the company.

Almost the same applies to her if she doesn't agree then her whole inheritance will be given away to different charities.Adriana could see Max was angry and when the meeting was over he stormed out of the room,she would also be angry if she was him having to marry a stranger and have kids with her within a year would freak anyone out.She herself was stunned and shaken,a heir within a year of marriage,was that even possible people try for months before they get pregnant...they were only given a year.

Diana really has complicated this whole story at this point she won't be surprised if Max hates her and never wants to see her face again.True to her word she left that afternoon leaving behind all the clothes and shoes Diana had bought for her and Amelia during their stay there Max hadn't been there when she had left and it was a good thing because she has a feeling he wasn't happy at all and anyone who crosses his path tonight will be sorry.She has a life she needs to get back to,her shop cannot afford to stay closed for another day.

Max was sitting inside a night club and drinking his seventh shot there were two women on either side of him and he has no idea where they came from and at this point he didn't care his mind wasn't here it was on Adriana Woods that woman has turned his whole life upside down in a matter of days.All he wanted to do now was punish her,make her suffer.

Bring her to her knees and have her begging him for mercy, but he knows he cannot do a damn thing unto her and that made him even more furious.He gulped down his shot and signaled for another one.He can't believe that uncle Daniel and Diana has done this unto him,they knew what the company meant to him half of it had belonged to his father this was his legacy,his birthright.

He felt like killing something or someone,and Adriana was being stubborn refusing to marry him despite knowing what's at stake here,he won't allow her to come and ruin what his father had took years to build.He won't,it was a matter of their family name,their reputation he won't just sit by and let it crumble before his eyes,if marrying her and producing an heir within a year is what will give him full control over the company then that is what he'll do.

Adriana closed the shop behind her and took Amelia that was lying in her car seat on the ground next to her,when she was safely strapped in at the back of the car Adriana made her way over to the drivers seat and soon they were on their way home.It has been a full week since they've buried Diana and in that time she hasn't heard a word from Max,social services on the other hand never tires of calling her every two days.

Her time was almost up she only has another week left then they'll come and fetch Amelia,Adriana was dreading that day so far she hasn't made any progress there isn't one decent guy that can help her out and the honest ones were already married raising families of their own she was beginning to lose hope.

Diana's words haunts her everyday 'this marriage will secure the adoption of your niece' how did she knew that because she surely hasn't said anything to her and asking won't help.Could what she had said be true will her and Max's alliance ensure she gets full custody over Amelia will it allow her to legally adopt her little niece as her own.The more she thinks about it day in and day out,it seems to be her only option Max is a wealthy man who's words held power Adriana is sure many feared and respected him.

If she can marry him and be his wife the agency will consider her application and the chances of her keeping Amelia will be high,she groaned inwardly and quickly glanced at a sleeping Amelia before concentrating her attention back on the road. Should she call him,but what will she say where will she begin,one thing was clear he wants the other fifty percent shares and he'll only get that by marrying her.

Diana had played her cards right she and Max both needed each other it was only a matter of time to see who between the two of them will make the first move,and the way things are going now Adriana is sure she'll be making that move and she hates that part.But there wasn't time for battle of the sexes Amelia's future is on the line here and she'll do anything for her.

When she got home she gently laid Amelia down in her crib and took the baby monitor with her she better go and fix the light bulb outside before it gets dark,taking a chair and the bulb she headed outside to the porch.Oh gosh she thought will she even reach up there,climbing onto the chair and standing on tiptoe she reached for the broken light,she struggled for a few seconds to get it out because she was a few inches short.

Being tall really has it's advantages she told herself taking the new light bulb out of the box.She has spring cleaned the whole house this entire week just in case Nicole the social worker will come unannounced the place is neat and tidy and hopefully it will make a difference.When she had come here for the first time to inspect the place it had been a mess, Amelia's whole toys had been lying all over the place she herself had looked a mess and Amelia had had the television remote in her mouth.

Nicole hadn't been too happy and Adriana had failed the inspection,since then she's made sure to keep the house clean at all times not wanting to jeopardise her chances even further.

Standing on tiptoe again she reached up to put in the new light bulb,she's sure if Nicole can see a broken light on the porch she'll give Adriana a whole list of all the dangers it poses especially at night.

"Do you need help?"She heard a strong male voice say behind her,she gave a soft yelped as she lost her footing on the chair and fell backwards.

Max caught her just in time before her beautiful face made impact with the hard wood floor,she barely weigh anything she was light as a feather their faces were inches apart,their noses practically touching.Her heart was beating extremely fast inside her chest and her pulse wasn't it's normal rate she breathed in his male scent along with his cologne and it awoke certain hormones and senses deep within her core,making her aware of the needs she has as a woman,his arms is around her back and legs she could feel every hard inch of him.

He's solid and for the first time ever she felt tiny butterflies flying around in her stomach,she felt light-headed and his fingers on her naked thigh wasn't helping either,why did she even wear a dress today.

Max became aware of her as a woman and she felt good in his arms,his fingers was on her skin he could feel her softness her scent flared up his nostrils and he caught the smell of flowers...like spring.His male testosterone kicked in and he could feel himself hardening by just holding her in his arms. This couldn't happen he cannot possibly be attracted to her how was it even possible,what was happening to him.

Never before has any woman ignited his desire by him just holding her and them still being fully clothed.If he can bend his head their lips would touch,he actually wanted her.Damn the woman he told himself.First she had turned his whole life upside down and now to make matters worse he wanted her, wanted to touch her,taste her,kiss her and discover if her skin was so soft all over,if she felt so good all over.

"Mr Torrés is it habit of yours to sneak up on woman."She said bringing his hazy mind back to the present.

"Looks like you need help."He told her.

"I was managing perfectly fine until you decided to scare me."
