Kayla's POV.

I was perplexed as I waited up all night in strong anticipation, but I also braced myself, ready for the worst.

I felt the need to inform him that maybe it was time for me to move on from this cut-and-chase hide-and-seek game; I just could not vanish into the blue without my family.

Maybe the honesty that got down with it was what I needed but nothing changed; nothing emerged.

Alpha Reynolds had not returned to the room during the entire night. Panic struck as I kept staring at the door, terrified that he would suddenly burst through it and eject me from the house.

I knew he was up with Jackson, likely bonding over memories of their past, but I could not have given a damn about any of that. If anything, I suspected Jackson might have slipped.

I trembled slightly from fear when the door quickly pushed open. I was so afraid since it was Alpha Reynolds.

"What happened while I was away?" He asked, pushed the door shut, and curled up in my bed as I stared at him, wide-eyed,
