FIVE YEARS LATER
MELISSA I bend over my work as the sun fades. Being the most celebrated healer in all the packs around has its benefits, the fame, the prestige, the money. It also has its pitfalls such as long hours spent “Well how long will it take to finish preparing the vaccine?” asks, and I smile a bit, but I do not answer him. We are both preparing vaccines to be sent out to surrounding packs for a viral outbreak that is affecting packs. The truth is, I am the one preparing the vaccines, Kelvin merely likes to watch me. Kelvin is like that at times, slightly impatient, and extremely charming. He is the future Alpha of Thamewood, the pack that took me in after several years of wondering from pack to pack, begging to be accepted. Finally, in a flash of inspiration, I cut my hair in front, and made a perfect fringe to hide the branding on my forehead. I told Alpha Mateo, Kelvin’s father that I was from a small pack faraway among the winter packs, and that we had been raided. To my surprise, Thamewood pack accepted me immediately, and Kelvin took an interest in me, his interest in me making him treat me gently. He even healed me with his Alpha blood. In a short while, all the physical bruises on my body were a thing of the past. It was only the wound inside my heart that could never be healed, a wound that festered, and demanding vengeance. “You’re doing it again,” he says, and I turn to look at him. As always, I am struck by how handsome he looks with his perfectly chiseled face, rich dark hair and green eyes. “What?” I ask, blushing a bit. “I promise, the vaccine would be ready soon. I just need to allow the solution sit for a while before adding your Alpha blood.”Kelvin shakes his head, and his green eyes look intense. “I’m not talking about the damn vaccines. You have this thing you do when you zone out, and it’s like your mind is far away, thinking very unhappy thoughts. You were thinking about the raid just now, weren’t you?” He asks. What raid? I almost ask, but thankfully, I remember my lies in time. “Yes,” I mutter, looking away. “Won’t you talk to me about it Melissa?” He asks, lifting a hand to trail it softly across my cheek, and I tremble a bit at his touch. It has been very long since a man touched me intimately, but with tenderness. “I think the reason you will not give me a chance to love you, is because you still haven’t let me in. Maybe if you trust me enough to tell me all you went through during the raid, there will be a chance for us to bond properly as mates.”His words frighten me in a way no words have ever frightened me. Before I know what is happening, Kelvin pulls me into his arms and begins kissing me. His mouth is hot, languorous, and stares old feelings within me – but I refuse to think of the past, here in this present moment. “Open for me Melissa,” he whispers against my mouth, massaging my jaw softly. “Trust me with your body.”I don’t want to. I have been broken once, and I cannot repeat that experience, and yet my mouth slips opens. I moan as his tongue slips into mine, to begin an erotica dance with my own tongue. Kelvin tastes of the woods, and some kind of heady wine, and something else – freedom. As his mouth ravishes mine, I do not feel worthless, I feel empowered by his love. I dare to believe I can be worth something, that I can be loved, cherished. “Oh Melissa, you don’t know how much I’ve waited to taste your lips, your skin, your flesh, every single inch of you.”I moan, trembling greatly as his hot and greedy mouth leaves mine, and begins a slow, torturous kissing trail down my throat, till he kisses and sucks on the delicate pulse at my throat. He groans, and it completely undoes me.“You’re so beautiful, and so fucking sweet, you taste like pure nectar.”I moan, feeling myself dripping wet for him already. Kelvin hardly swears, but when he does, I know it is because he feels something so strongly. I revel in his all consuming desire for me as his hand moves into my hair massaging it. His hand drifts to my bangs, brushing them slightly as his finger grazes the scar on my forehead. He freezes. “Melissa you are hurt! Your forehead! Why did you not let me heal it with my Alpha blood?”He sounds angry, concerned, but all I can think of is the past, ‘worthless,’ ‘murderer’, ‘I reject you…’ ‘They are dead…’I push him roughly away from me, and stumble backwards. “Don’t touch me!” I yell, aware that I am overreacting, but I can’t help it. Instead of Kelvin to be angry at my outburst, his face is a mixture of concern for me, and rage, but his rage is not directed at me. “Tell me who hurt you so much Melissa, that even after five years, your heart is still seared. Tell me who branded you, and I swear on my life, I will make them pay. For every single hurt you’ve suffered, I will times it by ten.”His words sounds eerily like the words from my past, only in the past, the anger had been directed at me. I shake my head. “You shouldn’t have distracted me; I would have been done with the vaccine by now.”Kelvin merely stares at me with an odd look of hurt and burning anger. He opens his mouth to speak again, it shuts it as we both watch the packs messenger approach. “The Alpha summons you – both of you,” he adds when only me starts packing to leave. Kelvin shoots me a look that says this conversation is not over but I ignore him as we both head to the pack palace, following in the messengers wake. “Tomorrow, this pack would hold a coronation ceremony for you Kelvin, as you take over as Alpha of the pack,” Alpha Mateo, Kelvin’s father says as we are brought in front of him. Kelvin seems mildly surprised. “I thought you would remain as Alpha for a few more years.”In Thamewood pack, it is common for an Alpha’s son to take over the throne while he is still alive, once the former Alpha is no more agile and fit, however I had expected Alpha Mateo to rule for a few more years, and apparently so had Kelvin. Alpha Mateo shook his head, he smiled for a moment, a faraway look on his face. “I have had a long run as Alpha, it’s time I stepped down. I have sent out the word already, tomorrow is your coronation as Alpha.” His eyes pinned me then, although he kept talking to Kelvin. “Once you are made Alpha of this pack, the people would demand a Luna. You two have at most one week to decide if you have a mate bond, and if you are ready to be Alpha and Luna.” He straightened. “That would be all.”We both turned to leave, but then his voice interrupted me. “Not you Melissa.”I turned around to face him, and he continued. “Your services have been requested, and I took the liberty of promising to send you over. You are undoubtedly the best healer in all of the surrounding packs, and you fame as spread far and wide.” He adjusted in his seat. “the Bloodmoon pack has also been affected by this ravaging out break, and Alpha Kayden Williams has requested your services, especially to see to his twin boys who have caught the virus …..”Alpha Mateo is still talking, but I don’t hear a single word he says. There is suddenly not enough air in the room, and I feel faint as I try to draw in enough air. Breathe, I command myself, but I can’t. His words echo in my head. ‘the Bloodmoon pack… Alpha Kayden… his twins!”“Melissa are you okay? Your face is completely white, and your breathing is audible,” Kelvin says from beside me, even Alpha Mateo looks concerned. “I’m fine,” I lie, as several emotions continue to hit me. Anxiety, apprehension, renewed anger, desire for revenge, and…. hope? Alpha Mateo had mentioned twins. What are the odds that Kayden had a second set of twins after I left? This can not be my twins, can they? I realize now, what I have failed to see all these years, Evelyn is a liar. It is very possible she had lied to me that night, five years ago. What if I am about to reunite with my twins? Desire and hope mingles with my need for vengeance. My expression must be quite a sight, judging from how Alpha Mateo is frowning at me. “Melissa ate you sure you’re okay? You don’t have to go to this pack if you don’t want to.”“But I want to,” I say with a cold, twisted smile. “I want to very much.”It is time I stop running from my past. I see this as the moon offering me a chance at getting the vengeance I so desperately crave, and even better, I may just be reunited with my children. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Kelvin watching me keenly, and I know he will hit me with a barrage of questions as soon as we step out.The moon hung low in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the forest as I stood at the edge of the Bloodmoon pack territory. My heart raced with a mix of anticipation and dread. This was my chance to uncover the truth about my past, about my children—the twins I had been told died five years ago. But now, I was here, a healer summoned by Alpha Kelvin, with a week to decide if I would become his future Luna.As I stepped into the clearing, memories of my childhood flooded back. My stepmother and stepsister had tormented me, their cruelty leaving scars deeper than any physical wound. They had made my life a living hell, and now they were gone, victims of a virus that had ravaged their lives. A part of me felt relief; they had not suffered as I had hoped. They did not deserve an easy death after all they had done.“Melissa?” A deep voice pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to see Alpha Kayden approaching, his presence commanding. He looked different—more rugged and fierce than I remembere
In that moment of danger, something shifted within me, a source of power spark by love for my children and newfound strength within myself.“Stay close!” I yelled at the twins as I joined Kayden in defending them against the rogues. As we fought side by side, adrenaline coursed through my veins; every blow struck against our enemies felt like reclaiming a piece of me lost long ago. In that battle against darkness, I found light, not just for myself but for my children too. After a fierce struggle, we emerged victorious; the vicious wolves fled into the night as silence enclose us once more.Breathless and shaken, I turned toward Kayden and then to my twins, relief washing over me like a warm embrace.“You saved us!” one twin exclaimed, eyes wide with admiration.“I would do anything for you,” I replied fiercely. In that moment, love triumphed over fear; forgiveness blossomed where there had once been hatred. As days passed and life returned to normalcy within Bloodmoon pack, I found myself at
As they stepped back reluctantly, I felt a surge of determination wash over me. It was time to take control of my destiny, not just for myself but for my children as well.Days turned into weeks as I focused on nurturing the bond between my twins and fostering their healing journey. With Kayden by my side, we created a safe haven filled with love and understanding, a place where they could grow without fear or resentment.Yet Kelvin’s presence lingered in my mind like an unfinished melody; he was steadfast and unwavering, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that our paths were diverging. One evening, as twilight descended upon Bloodmoon pack territory, I gathered the courage to confront my feelings head-on.“Kelvin,” I called as he walked through the clearing. He turned toward me, curiosity etched on his face.“I’ve been thinking about everything, about us,” I began hesitantly. His expression shifted from curiosity to anticipation. “And?”“I care for you deeply,” I admitted, feeling vulnerable
Months passed as our family continued to grow closer, navigating challenges while celebrating victories together. The twins thrived in this supportive environment; their laughter echoed through our home as they embraced their identities with pride.Kelvin and Kayden became not just partners but brothers, united by their shared love for me and our children. They learned to lean on each other during difficult moments while celebrating each other’s strengths. As spring approached once more, Bloodmoon pack prepared for another festival, the Spring Awakening; a time when we honored new beginnings and fresh starts.Standing beneath the blooming cherry blossoms with Kelvin and Kayden by my side, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude wash over me. This journey hadn’t been easy; it had been filled with heartache and uncertainty, but it had also brought forth love in its purest form.Together we forged ahead into uncharted territory; a journey filled with laughter and hope where every challenge
By the end of the evening, something magical had shifted within our pack. While not everyone was fully convinced yet, many left with open hearts willing to reconsider their perspectives. As we cleaned up after the gathering under a starlit sky, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. We had taken a significant step forward in fostering understanding within our community.“Tonight was incredible,” Kelvin said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.Kayden nodded in agreement. “We opened doors that had been closed for too long.”In that moment of unity beneath the stars, I knew we had weathered one storm together—but more challenges lay ahead. Yet now we were fortified by love, a bond unbreakable amid trials yet unseen.Months passed since that pivotal gathering; while acceptance within our pack grew steadily stronger, challenges continued to arise, both from within and outside our community. But as we navigated each obstacle together, we forged deeper connections with one another and strengthen
As days turned into weeks, the rifts only deepened. The community meetings became battlegrounds rather than safe spaces, with people shouting over one another in frustration. The unity we had fought so hard to build was slipping through our fingers.Kayden and Kelvin grew increasingly frustrated with the situation. “We can’t keep doing this,” Kayden said one night as we sat around the fire, shadows dancing across our faces. “We need to confront Marcus directly.”“But what if it escalates?” I asked, fear creeping into my voice. “What if we lose everything we’ve worked for?” “Or what if we continue down this path of division?” Kelvin countered, his eyes fierce. “We can’t let fear dictate our lives any longer.”The tension between us crackled like a live wire, and I felt a pang of regret for how far we had drifted apart. My heart ached at the thought that my choices had led us here, caught in a cycle of anger and resentment. The day of confrontation arrived, charged with unspoken emotions. A
That night, as I lay awake in my tent, I could hear the whispers outside, people plotting, forming alliances fueled by anger. It was as if a dark cloud had descended upon us, smothering any hope of reconciliation. The next day, I found Sarah by the riverbank again, her expression hardened like stone. “You’re still clinging to this idea that we can all just get along?” she scoffed.“I’m trying to find a way forward!” I shot back, frustration boiling over. “But you’re not making it easy!”“Maybe because you’re too naive to see the truth!” she snapped, her voice rising. “You think love will fix everything? You’re living in a fantasy!”Her words struck deep, igniting a fire within me that I struggled to contain. “And what’s your solution? To tear each other apart?”“Yes!” she exclaimed, her eyes flashing with rage. “If that’s what it takes to make you understand how serious this is!”The final confrontation came unexpectedly during a community gathering meant for healing. The tension was palpabl
Just when it seemed like we were making progress, however, Marcus stood up again, his expression hardened once more. “This is all well and good,” he said dismissively. “But at some point, we need to decide who’s in charge.”A wave of frustration washed over me as murmurs erupted among the crowd once more. “Why does it always have to be about control?” I challenged him.“Because someone has to lead!” he shot back defiantly.“Lead us where?” I countered. “To more division? To more fighting? Leadership should be about serving others and not controlling them!”For a moment, silence enveloped us as people considered my words. Then Sarah spoke up again, her voice steady but passionate. “What if leadership isn’t about one person? What if it’s about all of us working together?”Her suggestion hung in the air like an unspoken promise, a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos. As discussions continued late into the evening, we began brainstorming what true leadership could look like, one rooted in collabora
As winter settled in, the Echoes continued to thrive on their momentum from the Winter Festival. The community’s involvement in protecting the Whispering Woods had grown, and Jace, Mia, Elara, and Leo found themselves at the forefront of a movement that was blossoming into a true force for nature. One frosty morning, Jace received a message from Marcus, the environmental lawyer. “Meet me at the clearing,” it read. “I have something important to discuss.”Curiosity piqued, Jace gathered his friends and headed to the clearing, the crunch of snow beneath their boots punctuating the stillness of the winter landscape. When they arrived, Marcus was already there, leaning against a large oak tree, a serious expression on his face.“Thanks for coming,” Marcus said, his voice low. “I wanted to talk to you about something I discovered in my research. There’s an old tree deep in the woods that’s rumored to be a guardian of the forest—a place where ancient spirits still reside.”“An old tree?” El
As winter deepened, the Echoes found themselves filled with anticipation for their upcoming Winter Festival, an idea born from their desire to celebrate the season and foster community spirit. With each passing day, they worked diligently to plan an event that would honor the Whispering Woods and invite others to share in their love for nature. One crisp morning, Jace gathered his friends in the clearing. The air was filled with the scent of pine and the excitement of fresh snow underfoot. “I can’t believe the festival is just a week away! We need to finalize our plans,” he said, his enthusiasm infectious.Mia, her cheeks rosy from the cold, pulled out a list. “We have so much to do! We need to organize the storytelling sessions, art activities, and food. Plus, we should create some winter-themed decorations!”Elara nodded, her sketchbook filled with ideas. “I can illustrate banners and signs to guide people through the activities. We should also make flyers to spread the word in the
As winter approached, the Whispering Woods transformed into a wonderland of frost and snow. The trees stood tall, draped in white, while the ground glistened like a field of diamonds under the sun. Jace and his friends found themselves drawn to the woods more than ever, eager to embrace the beauty of the season and continue their adventures. One chilly afternoon, as they gathered in the clearing, Jace looked around at his friends, bundled up in warm coats and scarves. “What do you think about planning a winter adventure? We could explore the woods and maybe even build a snow fort!”Mia’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “I love that idea! We could create a winter story inspired by our adventure, just like we did in the fall.”Elara nodded, brushing snow off her sketchbook. “And I can illustrate the magic of the winter woods. The snow-covered trees and the animals in their winter coats will be beautiful!”Leo grinned, his breath visible in the cold air. “Let’s make it a day of exploratio
As the weeks turned into months, the community’s dedication to preserving the Whispering Woods grew stronger. Jace, Mia, Elara, and Leo found themselves at the heart of a movement that was blossoming into something beautiful. Their community event had not only ignited interest in environmental stewardship but had also forged deeper connections among neighbors. One crisp Saturday morning, the Echoes gathered at their favorite clearing to discuss their next steps. Leaves crunched underfoot as they settled onto a fallen log, the sun shining through the trees, casting dappled patterns on the ground.“I can’t believe how much has changed since we shared our legend,” Jace began, excitement bubbling in his voice. “So many people are getting involved, and it feels like the Whispering Woods are really becoming a part of our community’s identity.”Elara pulled out her sketchbook and began to doodle. “I think we should organize a series of workshops focused on nature and art. We could invite loc
As the days turned into weeks, Jace and his friends eagerly prepared to share their legend of Whispering Pines with the community. The excitement in the air was palpable, and they knew that this gathering would be a significant moment for their group and the Whispering Woods they cherished. The community center buzzed with activity as they set up for the evening. Jace, Mia, Elara, and Leo arrived early to arrange the seating, hang banners decorated with Elara’s illustrations, and prepare the projector for their presentation. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow through the windows, and Jace felt a rush of anticipation.“Do you think people will come?” Mia asked, her voice laced with excitement and a hint of nervousness.“Of course they will!” Leo replied, his confidence infectious. “Everyone loves a good story, especially one about the woods. Plus, we have our artwork to showcase!”As the hour approached, community members began to filter in, filling the room with laughter and cha
As dawn broke over the horizon, the soft light of morning filtered through the dusty windows of the old cabin, casting golden rays across the floor. Jace stirred awake, feeling the warmth of camaraderie and creativity still lingering in the air. His friends were slowly awakening, stretching and shaking off the remnants of sleep.“Good morning, everyone!” he said, his voice bright with enthusiasm. “Are you ready to bring our new legend to life?”Mia yawned and smiled, rubbing her eyes. “Absolutely! Last night was incredible. I can’t wait to see how our story unfolds.”Elara sat up, her hair tousled but her spirit undiminished. “Let’s revisit what we came up with. I’m excited to illustrate the family’s journey and the magic of the cabin.”They gathered in a circle on the floor, their notebooks and sketchbooks spread out before them. Jace pulled out the letters they had found, the faded ink still rich with emotion. “We should start with the family’s story—their dreams, their adventures i
As the leaves began to change colors and the air turned crisp with the approach of autumn, Jace and his friends immersed themselves in their creative pursuits. They had spent the last few weeks finalizing their story about the magical waterfall, and excitement filled the air as they prepared for their next adventure. One afternoon, while brainstorming ideas for their upcoming exploration, Leo suggested, “What if we visit the old abandoned cabin that’s rumored to be in the woods? I’ve heard stories about it—how it’s haunted and filled with secrets from the past!”Mia’s eyes widened with intrigue. “That sounds thrilling! We could discover its history and maybe even find objects that tell its story. It could be a perfect backdrop for our next tale!”Jace felt a thrill run through him at the thought of a new adventure. “Let’s do it! We can explore the cabin and write about the secrets it holds. Plus, I bet we’ll come up with some spooky stories around the campfire afterward.”Elara looke
As the weeks turned into months, Jace and his friends continued to embrace their tradition of exploring new places and weaving stories around their adventures. Each outing deepened their bond, and the magic of their shared experiences lingered like a warm glow in their hearts. One sunny Saturday morning, they gathered at their usual meeting spot, the clearing near the Whispering Woods. Jace felt a thrill of anticipation as he observed the excitement on his friends’ faces. “What adventure awaits us today?” he asked, a playful grin spreading across his face.Elara, flipping through her sketchbook, looked up with a sparkle in her eyes. “I’ve heard whispers about a hidden waterfall not far from here. It’s supposed to be breathtaking, and I think it would make a perfect setting for our next story!”Leo jumped in, his enthusiasm infectious. “Let’s do it! Imagine the tales we could craft around a magical waterfall. Maybe it could be a place of healing or a portal to another world!”Mia nodde
As summer reached its peak, the Echoes stood at a critical juncture. The documentary project was well underway, and they had gathered compelling footage and heartfelt testimonials from community members passionate about the Whispering Woods. Anya felt a sense of urgency, knowing that the documentary could be a pivotal tool in their ongoing battle against NovaGen.However, the pressure was mounting. NovaGen had ramped up its public relations efforts, flooding the community with advertisements that touted their "green tech campus" as a revolutionary step toward a sustainable future. They had even organized a glamorous launch event that would feature local leaders, promising free workshops on sustainability and innovation.Anya knew that the event could sway public opinion, especially among those who were still undecided. “We need to counter this narrative,” she said during a meeting with the Echoes. “If we don’t make our voices heard, we risk losing the support we’ve built.”Jace nodded
