Eleanor’s sight began to double as she tried to keep her pace running, hoping that in no time at all, maybe at the verge of death she was going to escape the territory she had slipped into to try to steal food or water to drink. She had tried to wolf out on multiple occasions, but she was way too starved and weak to be able to.
After managing to stay both alive and far enough from the guards that had been chasing her, Eleanor saw the boundary to the territory she was in, far ahead. She was happy that she soon was going to get out and find a place to rest before she hunted for somewhere else to steal food from. She kept drawing closer to the boundary, a faint smile forming on her lips as she stretched her hands forward. But, to her surprise, she noticed she wasn’t drawing closer to the boundary anymore. All she felt was a rush of wind, before she was met with pitch black.

“Do you not find it abnormal that the alpha doesn’t have a mate yet?” one elder said to another, while they were all sitted in the pack house conference room, around a mahogany conference table.
The other elder who was spoken to, gave a gentle nod before she replied, “It is quite abnormal that at the age of 25, the alpha still hasn’t found a mate. I wonder what the problem might be.” Above 6’ft tall, his eyes always dark, an intense energy always emitting from him; Alpha Luke walked into the conference room, causing a pin-dropping silence to fall upon the whispers filled room. Luke definitely heard the whispers that had been going on in the room before he walked in, but he had become used to it long ago. Since he had clocked the age 18 and didn’t find his mate almost immediately. People began to wonder if his mate rejected him, or if he had a fault and had to be alone all his life. Earlier, all the whispers and rumors had gotten to him when he had been younger, but the older he got the more used to it he got.
“I think what happened a while back, is happening once again,” Luke said firmly the moment he entered the room, taking his seat at the head table, no one opposite him.
The elders are the council members. They advise and guide Luke. Most of them had been there since his dad was in power, and Luke didn’t bother changing them after he lost his dad to war.
Luke didn’t stop looking at each of them so intensely as he continued, “The rogue attack is drawing closer and closer to our boundaries.”
“And we are prepared,” one of the elders replied.
Luke shook his head, frowning a bit, “Are you sure about this? How ready?” he replied.
The elders knew he had lost his dad to a rogue attack in a neighbouring pack, in which his dad’s friend was alpha and he had gone to assist them. Since then, their pack had been on consistent alert and guarding. No rogue was let to go free, as they could be a spy.
“The guards are still constantly on watch,” the youngest of the elders replied. “The warriors still train every single day, like there is war tomorrow. The safe houses are restocked and kept fresh and ready, like there is going to be an attack tomorrow. Everything, is still in motion like we know the war is going to happen tomorrow.” Her words reassured Luke, making him relax a bit as he nodded. “That would be all for today.”
With that, everyone stood up and left, while Mike – the head of the guards and Luke’s best friend, walked into the room with two guards who were holding a lifeless looking young woman in their hands.
“What is wrong?” Luke asked him without a smile.
Mike had been friends with Luke since they were very young. Their dads were best friends, which in turn made Luke and Mike spend so much time together. Mike was with Luke though his bright days, up till he became the gloomy and dark man he was.
“We saw her roaming the territory,” he told him, while the guards placed her lifeless body on the floor.
Luke stood up from where he sat, and walked to where they had let her body down. He felt something strange within him when he stared at her, but it was so faint he thought he had imagined it. He gave a gentle nod before he said, “Put her in a cell.”
The guards immediately picked her body back up and began to walk out of the room.
“Inform me, the very moment she wakes up.”
They both nodded as they took her away to her cell.
“How are you?” Mike asked him, taking his seat at the conference table.
Luke grunted. “I’m perfect.”
“I’ve known you for twenty-five years Luke, I-“
Luke didn’t let him finish talking before he changed the topic. “How have things been in the territory?”
Mike knew not to push things, so he replied to him, “Pretty well. But the issue remains that, the attack keeps drawing to our territory. I know I am trained for this, but deep down I can’t help the fright I sometimes feel.”
Luke nodded, never wanting to accept that he also felt the same fright too sometimes. He didn’t know how bad these attacked were, but he knew that for it to take out a wolf as strong as his dad down, it had to be really bad. One thing that also confused him was how a group of rogue wolves could be that strong to beat packs, which are stronger together. “You just have to stay strong.” Mike nodded.
“The stronger and prepared we are, the more chances we have to win against the attack.”
Mike nodded again.
“How is Katrina?” Luke quickly changed the topic, asking about Mike’s mate. “I heard she is with a child, again.”
Mike lips quickly spread into a childlike smile as he looked down, using his feet to kick at what wasn’t there. “Yes,” he replied as he nodded.
“Must be lovely,” Luke said.
“Yes. And I think it could be twins this time around. I heard two heartbeats,” he informed Luke.
Luke smiled widely, patting Mike’s shoulder as he said, “That’s beautiful. I am so happy for you man.”
“Thank you,” he replied. “But Luke, aren’t you wor-” Luke knew he was about to speak about something relating to him not finding his mate, so he quickly cut him off. “That would be all for today Mike, have a lovely rest of the day.”
Mike frowned. He was worried.
“And also, you’ve been doing an excellent job as head of the guards, keep it up.”
“Luk-” Luke was saved by a guard who rushed into the room. “She has awoken sir,” he said as he composed himself, standing firm.
“Let’s go.” With that, Like began to walk out of the room, Mike and the guard following behind him.

The only thing familiar to Eleanor when she woke up, was the cold floor and environment. She couldn’t help stretching, as he joints felt stiff and ached a bit.
All she could remember was making it close to the boundaries. What she wasn’t sure about was if she made it out or not. She sat up slowly, taking in the environment she was in. It most definitely didn’t look like the forest. It looked more like a cage. She felt anger and anxiety began to well up in the pit of her stomach as her heart beat quickened. But, she was extremely weak and could barely make any movements. She crawled close to the bars keeping her, examining it and seeing if she could use her claws to break herself out of then. But, there were no locks on it, she let out a soundless sigh as she leaned against the railing.
She muttered to herself, “We can’t die like this. We still have to take revenge.”
The thought of fear only make her more afraid. She realized that she had been taken prisoner by the territory she had sneaked into.
“Who do you work for?” Luke asked, his voice thick and commanding.
This sent shivers down Eleanor spine, but she couldn’t help looking up at him. For the first time in both their lives, they felt a pull towards someone, to one another.
It was like the room went shut for both of them, as one word rang in their head, “MATE!”
It was an electric feeling.
Eleanor had lost all hope of finding a mate. She had only clocked 18, when her family pack was attacked by rogues. The attack wiped them out, leaving only her and that was because her mother had hidden her when the attack had happened. When she came out of where she had been hiding, she saw that everyone, her boyfriend at that time and all her friends had been killed. Eleanor had been fully convinced that her boyfriend was going to be her mate, so when she had seen his body lying lifeless on the floor, she had come to the conclusion that she was never going to have a mate for the rest of her life. She had considered letting her life go on many grounds, but the face her mom had when the attacked happened and she was hiding her, kept her going. She was fully convinced that her mom had kept her safe for a reason, which made her owe her life to her mom. She had to live to take revenge.Luke couldn’t help frowning as he stared down at her. It was such a foreign feeling to him, that made hi
Eleanor had been in her cell for a while, wondering why the man who she felt so pulled to had walked out in the middle of interrogating her. She wasn’t sure, but she was pretty convinced that the man was the Alpha of the pack. She hated how he made her feel, as she was certain he was going to distract her from her goal. But he was hot, she couldn’t deny. He definitely stood above six feet, she giggled to herself about that. He was dark, and had a chin filled with beards that connected to his hair. His skin glowed, that even in the dimly lit room, she was about to ask him for his skincare routine.Eleanor leaned on the iron bars of her cell, listening to her stomach rumble and life sing sad melodies before her eyes, while she tried to get her mind off the attractive man that she felt so in love with. She didn’t even know him, but she cared not.“Please comply,” one of the guards who had been standing in front of her cell told her as he unlocked her cell, causing Eleanor’s eyes to almos
The day sky had darkened, and Eleanor felt lonely in her room. Her help had left her a while ago, leaving her with a red button, telling her to press it whenever she needed her help.Still conflicted by what was going on, Eleanor sat by her window, watching children play around a bonfire, while their mothers watched them. She couldn’t help flashing back to when she still had her pack. She remembered how she would sit with her friends not far from a bonfire, while she cuddled in the laps of her boyfriend and they all talked for a long time, not getting tired of one another. She also remembered how the children also played by a bonfire, while parents watched their children to ensure they didn’t get too close to the fire. There was also a time she and her friend would go for fun runs at night, laughing at their endless jokes and skinny dipping.Eleanor felt her eyes water, itching at them in an attempt to send the tears running back. But, the tears kept flowing endlessly, causing her to
Claire was the person Eleanor woke up to. She was woken by the little movements she was making around the room. Eleanor wasn’t exactly a light sleeper, but always been on edge in the forest made her become one, she was easily woken up by the tiniest of sound, so she was shocked that that she didn’t wake up simply by Claire opening the door. “Good morning,” she said quietly, almost silent.“Oh my,” Claire said with wide eyes, as she paused mid dishes she was carrying, hanging in the air – a bit bent over the table, the tray of the plates in her hands. “Did I wake you up? I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to.” She dropped the plates back on the table as she rushed to Eleanor.Eleanor felt weird. Being treated so nice and with some sort of respect freaked her out. She has Ben treated as nothing but trash since she lost her pack and had been moving about alone. She shook her head as she replied, “No, it is absolutely fine. It is time to be up anyways.”Claire simply nodded, as she walked back
Luke woke up feeling like the day was going to be a great day. He decided it was the day he was finally going to talk to Eleanor. He had avoided her the whole of the day before, and knew about her whereabouts from the guard who he had stationed to keep watch of her from afar. He knew she hadn’t left her room, but that Claire and Leana were the only people who had walked into her room. He wondered what Leana had to say to her, why she was even going to her room in the first place. He couldn’t resist rolling his eyes as he walked out of his room, heading straight to his office. Luke was out of his room and on his was to his office when he heard the joyful skips of Leana behind the door where both his room and Eleanor’s room were. He rushed to a corner to hide, staring at the door from that corner. Soon enough, Leana walked out with a smiling Eleanor behind her, both chatting about what he didn’t know. He couldn’t help thinking about how beautiful Eleanor looked at that moment. Her smil
Eleanor had stopped counting the doors when they got to the kitchen. She had tried to engage Leana in a conversation and still try to count the doors from her room to the kitchen, but that was as good as impossible. “This is the kitchen,” Leana told her as she pushed the large door to the kitchen open, revealing an almost empty large kitchen. The door looked old like it had been made long ago of wood, but then inside looked like it was centuries ahead. Eleanor muttered, “Wow.” She looked around with her head up, not being able to help how surprised and amazed she was about the kitchen. “This is the kitchen?” She asked Leana, who nodded excitedly. “It is so pretty.” “Exactly,” Leana replied. “Pretty is the perfect word to describe this place. “I remember growing up here and always thinking to myself how pretty it was. The brown and cream ceramic tiles always have this place the perfect kind of glow. I always thought people would think it dull, but I guess by your reaction it is just
The day had become night. After breakfast, they had gone around the mansion. No matter how Eleanor had tried to relax, she still couldn’t help how anxious she felt around everyone, she couldn’t completely hide how overwhelming everything was. Leana didn’t force her and let her move at her own pace as they went around. Leana avoided taking her to crowded places, and only took her to places she was certain only staff were going to be present. The last place they saw was Leana’s room. It was bigger than Eleanor’s room, and very spacious. It was coral in colour, with a mix of peach here and there. Her walls were the only thing brightly coloured in her room, as the furniture in her room was deep brown in colour. “This is my room, my place of residence,” Leana had told her, with a chuckle. “I barely stay here,” she added, “Because it is so lonely. I'd rather hangout with other kids or the staff. It makes here so much more fun, that is why I understand why Luke life is so boring and tireso
Luke couldn’t step out of his office all day, not only because he was avoiding having to bump into Eleanor, but mainly because of the many paperwork he had to deal with. He had a lot of reports to read and respond to. Luke had let out a deep sigh from sitting at his desk all day, when his door busted open, and Leana walked in. He was about to scold her and tell her of how his office wasn’t a playground, when he saw Eleanor walk in behind her, he froze up. His mind became scrambled, and he didn’t know what to do or say next. He simply stood there, staring. He watched Leana skip out, but couldn’t even scold her for what she had done.Still trying to figure out what next to do, he suddenly heard Eleanor say, “I am sorry, I would be out of your hair now.”He was going to let her go away, but his mouth moved faster than his brain as he quickly said, “No, please have your seat.” It was only when he saw the expression on her face when she slowly turned to look at him, and then began to appr
Eleanor was lying on her bed, spread out as she stared at the ceiling. The time she had spent with Luke wasn’t only tormenting, but also fun – she hated to admit. She didn’t seem so relaxed, but she loved how he asked about her welfare and how well she was settling in the pack house. She was so close to locking her hands with his, she had to use the last of her will to get to her room without making any move. Lenny was already attracted to Luke, or she didn’t know if it was his wolf she was attracted to. Lenny kept trying to reach out to him, but she knew she couldn’t let that happen.‘They train you here’, Lenny told her. ‘I do not see the sense in you leaving. They feed you. Promise to give you all the information you need for your revenge. And most of all, your mate is here. Your one true love. Everything is here for you’.“No, for you,” Eleanor replied calmly, shutting her eyes as she let her thoughts wander to her family. “There is a lot of distraction her, and I do not want to l
Luke had woken up thinking about Eleanor and how she had left his office the night before with little to nothing to say. He didn’t care – he assured himself, but he found himself constantly thinking about her and his wolf – Leon, wasn’t helping at all.‘How about being honest about your feelings and nice to her’, Leon suddenly said, earning an eye roll from Luke. ‘I miss being in her presence’, he whined.“I have work to do, so do not bother me with your whines,” Luke replied, trying to focus on the word load he had in front of him. ‘Do you not wonder how well she’s getting along? How is her training going? What if she’s bruised?’Luke felt his heart begin to rave at the thought of being bruised, he felt his anger rising. He sure was going to get mad at her coach if she was bruised in anyway. He tried to keep on working, but soon found himself shooting off his chair. He groaned to himself as he walked out of his office in search of Eleanor.Meanwhile, Eleanor was done with her traini
“Where to?” Luke’s mother had asked, looking at Claire with her smile still on.“Alpha Luke said she should begin her training today,” Claire replied, “So, I am taking her to the training room, mother.”Eleanor simply stood there, not saying a single word and silently praying to the moon goddess that her heart keeps calm.“Can I take over from you at the moment?” She asked Claire. “I would take her to her training.”It took every nerve in Eleanor’s body to stop her from bursting into their conversation and beg Claire not to leave her alone with Luke’s mother. Claire nodded as she stepped back into the room. “Yes mother,” she replied.“Lovely,” Luke’s mother replied as she stretched her hands forward to guide Eleanor. “After you.”Eleanor stepped out of the room as Luke’s mother shut the door behind her. They had begun to walk to the other door when Luke’s mother said, “You do not need to be afraid, I am not here to scold you.” She chuckled. “You are going to burst my ears with how lo
Though extremely tired, Eleanor found herself turning on her bed and being unable to sleep. She found herself living the rogue attack again, it was the reminder she was sure she needed. Eleanor had managed to later sleep, but she had also managed to decide what she wanted to do. She decided that it was best she left Knight pack and went her ways, she was certain that she was going to find out about the rogue attack herself. She was mostly blacked out around Luke, and she was sure that wasn’t going to be good for her. And she couldn't let herself lose sight of her reason for being alive. But then. She needed a plan. She didn’t know how she was going to successfully escape the territory without being caught. She acted like she didn’t know, but she knew that apart from Claire, there was someone who was always watching her. She didn’t know who the person was, but she could hear their heartbeat. She had always suspected that it was Luke who had put the person unto her, because the person’
