~29 A MARK OF A WOLF

I found myself in the middle of a dark forest, with no memory of how I got there. I could hear the leaves rustling and the branches creaking, but I couldn't see anything beyond a few feet in front of me. Suddenly, a howl echoed through the trees, making my heart skip a beat. I tried to run, but my legs wouldn't move. I was stuck, like a deer in the headlights.

The howling grew louder and closer, until I could see the silhouette of a wolf emerge from the shadows. It was huge, with matted fur and gleaming yellow eyes that seemed to glow in the dark. I tried to scream, but no sound came out. The wolf approached me slowly, its jaws gaping open, revealing sharp, white teeth.

I closed my eyes and prayed that it was just a dream. But when I opened them again, I was no longer in the forest.
