DICKSON POV

We approached the small house, its windows illuminated by a flickering light. The scent of burning wood and a hint of something savory wafted through the air, enticing our senses.

It seemed like a place of comfort amidst the uncertainty that surrounded us.

As we entered, we found ourselves in a cozy living space. A fireplace crackled, casting a warm glow that danced on the walls. A table was set with a simple meal, and an elderly couple sat at the table, their eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and caution.

"We mean no harm," I assured them, my voice gentle yet firm. "We're just passing through and could use a moment of respite."

The couple exchanged glances, assessing our presence. They seemed wary but not overtly hostile.

The woman nodded, gesturing for us to take a seat at the table. "Please, help yourselves," she said, her voice filled with a mix of weariness, fear and hospitality.
