Ace’s POV

Hurriedly, I tiptoed to my car as soon as I put the phone back into my pocket.

I hadn't even bothered to wash my fingers that just performed the holy work.

Without wasting any time, I accelerated onto the highway to my father's house.

When I arrived there, he was sitting with Lulu by the dining table, sipping on wine. It seemed as though they had just had dinner, even though the table was already clean of plates to back that.

“Good evening, father and mother!” I stuttered. My pacing heart had interfered with the flow of my voice.

Lulu rolled her eyes and took a large gulp. The gesture alone was enough to signal me the issue was bigger than I had imagined.

“Son, sit down!” Jeremy demanded. His tone, although stiff, had a low, scared essence to it.

Reluctantly, I put my gluteus maximus against the soft suede of the dining chair.

“You heard what I said on the phone, right?” Jeremy groaned.

My heart sank. I didn't have a word in me to answer him. Or rather, them.

“You're not

Sarah’s POV At the top of my mind, I wanted to excuse Angel's behavior for the effect of the heavy medication she might have been on. I picked up my phone and started typing.“‘You need to tell me everything!” And reluctantly, I tapped send, before I struck to send a follow-up that would convince her. “‘If we’re going to be working together, then I need to know everything. Your husband is not who he seems to be!” And sent.Or maybe I should've left out the last part? I pondered to myself, but the message was already sent. I waited impatiently, shaking my legs nervously. My husband found me holding my phone in my hand, my leg stomping up and down anxiously. He had a few things in his hand that had to go into the suitcase as he’d started packing for our Maldives trip.“Babe!” He called out, putting them away and making his way to me. I moved aside to create space for him to sit beside me.He drew his pants and bumped against the bed, then retrieved the phone from my hand. After read

Ace’s POV“Hello!” I answered. It was my father. “Surprised, right?!” He remarked on the other end of the line. I could hear the sound of him taking a large puff.My lips didn't move.“Listen, Ace. Lulu, Luis, Sarah and Bruno are my family more than you are.”My heart sank. ‘What?!’ I pondered to myself. “So, make sure you find my son as soon as possible. I can't afford to lose my family because of you. Okay?” He snapped. I felt needles and arrows pierce through my heart at his declaration. My lips vibrated as I skirmished to keep the heavy tears from making their way out of my eyes. “Heard me, son?” He continued. With a heavy heart, it's pounding almost blocking my vocal cords, all I could do was growl. His words were still reverberating in my mind, but my brain was almost blocked to comprehend what they really meant. He resumed. “You have 16 hours to bring my son; my real son, to my doorstep. Or else, you're going to have it coming for you!” He threatened, before the line beep

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 36

Ace’s POVI got back home in the middle of the dark, and headed straight to bed. Angel was still sleeping peacefully, and I snuggled beside her, then held her into my arms as I listened to her rhythmed breathing. On the other hand, my racing thoughts didn't give me the privilege of getting to slumber, so I watched into the phantasmic sunrise amidst the dark, raging clouds. Around 7am, Angel regained consciousness. She didn't say a word, she just stood from my numb arm's rest, and disappeared into the bathroom. A few minutes later, I dragged myself out of bed and headed into the bathroom. “I can't even have a shower without you meddling?” She complained. “For God's sake, Ace, I'm gonna go mad. I can feel it!” She decried, her voice breaking. “I'm sorry!” I whispered. “I don't know how to apologise, but I think it’d be better if you take a break from my hideous face and go somewhere where you don't have to see me!” I suggested, cracking my knuckles nervously, as I stared at my re

Angel's POV“Let's go, Aunt Stephie!” I said lowly, ironing my dress with my palms. “I'm sorry, child. I wanted to tell you, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I didn't even know where I'd start.” She explained.Aunt Stephie continued. “But, seeing you here and dying to confront him broke my heart. I'm really sorry I betrayed your trust. You deserved to know!” She muttered, holding her hands together in front of her.She looked away from my gaze, which wasn't at all condescending. Just despaired.“It's all right.” I assured, seeing her crack her knuckles anxiously. “Let's just go, I will talk to his tomb instead. That's all I'm worth after all!” I hissed, my feet already taking me to the door, only to realise Stephie had remained behind, glued to one spot. I frowned. “Aunt! Let's move so we can go shopping afterwards. There's a lot we need to buy.” But, she didn't budge. “Is everything alright?” I pondered, arching my right eyebrow. A heavy sigh left her lips. Her eyes

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 38

I lay on my back, staring at the ceiling, watching the night change into day. I wasn't sure which wounded me more: my father's cold-blooded nature or Ace punishing me for my father's mistakes. Not to mention that the man whose lap I used to sit on died, and I was oblivious since he did not want me to know. I contemplated what mistake I may have made in my previous life that prompted me to go through such a traumatic experience. As the sun dawned, I dragged myself out of bed. While engaged in my profound thoughts overnight, I understood that I was now in control. The fate of the web of lies I found myself caught in, was in my hands. I stood in front of the bathroom mirror, my hands gripping the sink for dear life as I leaned against it. My eyebags were black and sagging. But that was not my foremost priority. I heaved as I convinced myself that the decision I took last night was correct, and that I would never wake up and regret it. I unlocked the wardrobe to collect my suitcase

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 39

Angel’s POV My husband whirred the car all the way to our marital house. Having parked in the garage, he hopped out and I watched him through the windscreen as he strolled to my side, and held the door open for me. He proceeded to retrieve my luggage from the boot and followed my lead to the entrance. “Maybe I should run you a shower.” He offered politely, his voice having a soft touch to it. I arched one eyebrow, perplexed by his sudden change in attitude. “Sure!” I affirmed hesitantly, hoping the nonchalant energy he was exuding wouldn't deter me from going ahead with my plan. My eyes ran from head to toe as he walked above me, up the stairs to our room. When the door opened, a malicious aroma of dust and sweat attacked my nose. I grimaced and used my fingers to block my nostrils. “What is this smell?” I probed, my voice dying from the lack of oxygen intake. “Have you not been cleaning?” Ace sucked his lips and dropped his head. “You can't be a liar and a pig at th

Angel’s POV“I can do it for you!” I outed impulsively, and rose to sit on my butt. “I mean…I can bathe you. What do you say?” He arched his eyebrows, his ears unable to believe what they just heard. “No!” He declined politely, dropping his head. I tutted, my eyes on the floor. “I forgive you!” I convinced. “I’ve done away with any animosity I had for you in my heart, now that I know what my father did.” “What?!” He frowned, perplexed. “Angel, you don't have to. I totally understand if you continue hating me.” He paused and searched for words in the ground. “In fact, I’ve been contemplating getting a divorce. You deserve to be free!” I couldn't believe it. My eyes widened as I gasped for breath following his perplexing declaration.“A divorce?!” I snorted. “Yeah!” He affirmed strongly. “I’ve hurt you, Angel. It will be a redemption for me.” I fixed my gaze on him. I pondered if that was the very same monster I got married to. I was supposed to be angry at him, for all that he

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 41

Angel's POVLast night was exactly what I'd always prayed for. I lived a glimpse of my dream marriage, having a long, vulnerable chat with my husband, before falling asleep in his arms. He confessed a lot of things; including his real name, which happens to be George Brooks. And the one thing that stood out the most, was how my whole life, under the same roof as my father, was a lie. I rubbed my eyes strenuously before opening them. Looking to my side, my husband was nowhere to be found. Just when I was working my brain cells up to find me a solution as to where he could be, he kicked the door open. Instead of seeing a treacherous monster walking towards me with a tray in his hands, I saw a vulnerable orphan who was exploited and brainwashed. He wore a bright smile on his face as he strolled cautiously to the bedside. “Good morning wifey!” He muttered excitedly. “I realised you never had breakfast in bed while with me, and I thought why not start today.” “Mmh!” I hummed flirtatio

Six Months Later Ace’s POV “Be careful!” Angel demanded in a moan. Her hands were wrapped around my shoulders traversing under my armpits as she breathed in hot air into my ear. Her legs formed a pointy fountain under the sheets running through my waist, wrapped tightly around my thighs, making my thrusting work closer and easier. “Relax, I won't hurt the baby.” I whispered a warm assurance into her ear while my fingers rubbed her head tenderly. After the holy work was done, I helped her get ready for our doctor’s appointment. Trust me when I say it wasn't the easiest work of all. She changed into ten different outfits, cried when clothes didn't fit and wailed about how ugly she felt. Every two minutes she asked me if I still found her sexy, or I would dump her for a skinnier girl who had no baby multiplying the fat in her body. I had to assure her that I just made steamy love to her. Not only that, but I held her and kissed her neck while she came. “You're sexier when

Angel’s POVFollowing a great morning glory with my husband, he invited me to sit with him at breakfast. Dr Warner or whoever her name was, didn't seem to have that much of a problem. Although, there was one insect hovering over Ace throughout. I didn't get her name, and frankly I didn't even care. My mind was on something else. Once breakfast was done, Ace and I sat in the car. “Angel,” he cleared his throat and adjusted his posture. “I’ve been meaning to call Jeremy.”I frowned. “What?! Why?” He shook his head lightly, and tutted. “I really don't know. But I feel like he could be in need of a second chance too.” He glared at me, my cheeks became heavy with a blush. “I’m learning from you.” He added, his eyes anticipating a response from me. I shrugged my shoulders, my eyes not knowing where to land. “Okay! I mean…go for it!” “Yeah!” He whispered, before awkward silence reigned between us. “Say it!” “I can see there is something you want to say.” I advised, a smile hiding be

Your expression is killing me.” She clapped as she laughed at my face. “Hi babe!”I sighed heavily, my palm on my chest as though I was massaging my heart. “You scared me.” She arched her eyebrows. “Really? The George Brooks can get scared?” She scoffed, helping me up. “Are you sure you are okay? I can take you to the nearest hospital.”“Yeah! Remember I am staying at a clinic now.” I added, following her lead to the car. She buckled and we took off. “So tell me, since when do you run?” She posed, her arms stirring the steering wheel flawlessly. I watched in awe. “I wanted to ask you yesterday, since when do you drive?” She smiled. “You're not answering the question, George.” She added, her gaze avoiding mine. “Okay, fine. How do you think I built all these muscles? I'm very physically active on a normal day.” I clarified, my eyes not leaving her cheek. My mind and my heart were at wa

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 48

Ace’s POVThe new dawn set, and my alarm went off. I reached out my hand to turn it off, and when all was silent, I lay on my back, my hands spread away from my body. It was only when I opened my eyes that it clicked to me that I was not home. I blew raspberries at the discomfort it brought me to be here, but then remembered my Angel would be coming to see me today. The anticipation was killing me. Quickly, I reached for my phone and sent her a sweet text, but she wasn't online. I waited for a little while hoping to get a blue tick, but in vain. Disappointed, I dragged myself out of bed and tiptoed to the bathroom, holding onto walls for dear life. “It's not even 7am yet, silly. She must be snoring.” I convinced my reflection in the mirror. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I headed back and made my bed. Then, I changed into a grey workout outfit, grabbed a water bottle and headphones, and walked towards the door. Upon opening my door, I was startled by a female figure

Ace’s POV I felt a hand touch my shoulder, and I was startled. My neck tilted around and my face came face to face with Miranda. She sucked her lips, creating a friendly expression, as she held out her tiny hands, doing a little wave at me. I could see the top of her head, examining every little detail of her messy bun. I forced a smile. “Hey, Miranda.” I spoke between my teeth. “Yeah, George.” She responded and went silent, her eyes glued to the corridor floor we were standing on. Bypassers stole sneaky glances at us one after the other, but I turned a blind eye. “Can I help you, Miranda?” I pondered, her silence getting to me. She sighed. “I was wondering if we could hang out?” “For the assignment? It wants us to get acquainted with one another.” She elucidated following my silent response to her wondering. “Oh, yeah sure. See you tomorrow, or whenever you want to hang out.” “I have a scheduled call with my wife, sorry I'm running after time.” I grumbled and turned my ba

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 46

Ace’s POV I sat there, in a room full of drug addicts and people who twirled their fingers in anxiety. All their focus was on me. I guess I was more famous than I thought. For some fucking reason I kept thinking I was better than them. But a stubborn and straight-forward voice inside my head told me I was no different, why else would I be here? At least the chair was comfy. It was a very cushiony sofa modified into the shape of a palm, and I could sit comfortably on my back. A middle aged woman walked in, holding her hair into a neat, tight bun.“Hello guys!” She mumbled in a friendly tone. Voices groaned to greet her back, as she took a seat facing us. “I am Dr. Warner, and I'm here to help you all. Will you help me help you?” She wondered, forcing a smile. Everyone else nodded or groaned or forced a smile except for me. I just glared at the ceiling, rubbing my head and listening to everyone try to get into her good books. “Right? What's your name?” She asked me, but I wasn't p

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 45

Ace’s POVI closed the door slowly behind me, and leaned my back against it. My luggage stood steady at my feet, as my eyes studied the room. White walls, white ceiling, the furniture, and even the bedding; everything was white. And why not? This was a trick I learned of back in high school, that white keeps the mind soothed. A heavy sigh left my lips, having absorbed the typicality of my new home. Had it been for me, I would have never even looked up a depression support clinic. But Angel was involved, she had insisted, and so I followed. I pushed my suitcase towards the bed and picked up it's weight onto the bed. A borborygmi-like sound followed as I undid the zip to start unpacking, as per one of the instructions I received at the reception. With all my clothes hung and folded properly in the wardrobe, I drew the curtains, letting some light into the room. My window looked over some of the buildings in the premises. In fact, the reflections of the corrugated roofing would be bl

Angel’s POVAce seemed torn, caught between the darkness that enveloped him and my offer. His voice cracked as he spoke, "But what if I never get better? What if I'm stuck like this forever?"I drew a deep breath, my voice filled with determination. "Ace, I won't pretend to have all the answers, but what I do know is that there are professionals who specialize in helping people like you navigate through this darkness. They have the tools, the knowledge, and the experience to guide you towards a path of healing. We have to believe that there is hope, that there is a chance for you to find peace and happiness once again." I mumbled, rubbing circles on his back.Ace's eyes flickered with a mixture of doubt and longing. He seemed to be contemplating my words, grappling with his own self-worth and the possibility of a better tomorrow. "Please, Ace, trust me when I say that you're not alone in this.” I heaved. “Angel, I…” He attempted, but I interrupted him.“Uh uh!” An expression left m

  • ACE AND ANGEL   Chapter 43

Sarah’s POVI lounged on the beach, soaking up the sun and admiring the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean. It was a much-needed break from my usual routine, helping me cope well with my recent miscarriage. I harboured hate for my brother at this point. Had it not been for him, I would have probably still been pregnant. Suddenly, my phone rang. I sighed, briefly tempted to ignore it. Garry had warned me not to take any calls so I could give this outing my full attention, but ultimately, I decided to answer. It was my sister-in-law."Hey, Angel," I said. "What's up?""It's Jeremy," Angel said, her voice lower than usual. "He wants to exhume Ace's parents' bodies."I sat up, suddenly alert. "What? Why?""I don't know," Angel admitted. "He and Ace are at loggerheads." She concluded with a sigh.I sighed. “And they both aren't normal people. Why am I not surprised?”She chuckled from the other end of the line. “I can't imagine how you must've dealt with all that your entire life.”
