Outside by our cars, I told the girls what I got told today and they were ecstatic for me. I told them everything that was said and what I need to do to make sure I have a chance for the scholarship. Jen said, “Don’t worry about the recommendation as you know my dad would be more than happy to give you a glowing letter of recommendation after when he heard you play for my mom before Chase joined in and made it something else.” “Jen, did you just say your brother plays guitar? Oh, my god I know I shouldn’t be saying this to you but hearing that has just made him ten times hotter.” Jen gagged at Selena’s comment, and I laughed because I thought and repeated when he put the guitar over his shoulder and started playing the song with me. Even though I want to forget about him I just can’t seem to. I refuse to stop being friends with Jen because of him, she has done nothing wrong toward me. She has been the loyal friend everyone wants to have in their lives. And the same goes for Sele
Dad’s face lit up like it was the fourth of July, it’s the same face he gave me when he told me about his promotion, and he wraps me in his arms and hugs me. “Oh, my baby girl I am so proud of you that is fantastic news we must celebrate tonight, after dinner, we are going out for ice cream I don’t care if you’re too old for it now I want to celebrate your success.” “Thanks, Dad I like the sound of that, and I know just the place too it’s this little ice cream parlor I saw down on the pier at the beach they have a sundae called the brownie exploder.” “That sounds like an ice cream I could enjoy too.” He smiles at me and squeezes me as I’m still wrapped up in his arms. I turn and look over Dad’s shoulder. “Toni you’re more than welcome to join us if you would like.” Dinner was delicious, one of the best pasta dishes I’ve eaten in years. Once it was all cleaned up and dishes and cutlery put away in the dishwasher it was time to go for our celebratory dessert. Toni declined o
Chase P.O.V All I want is just a moment of her time. I just want to explain everything. My actions for last Friday, having Candace round my house when I knew Savannah was there and mostly just to apologize. That’s why I’ve had a quick little word with my friend Lucas to make Savannah’s brownie exploder her ultimate favorite. Instead of it being chocolate and vanilla ice cream. I asked Lucas if he could just do the one flavor of mint chocolate chip and with extra brownie pieces. I will pay the extra no problem if it gives me just a moment of her time. “Thanks, man,” I hand Lucas a twenty-dollar bill as Lucas says he won’t charge me extra this time just I have to promise him I will assist him with something when he asks me as Mr. Blakemore hands Savannah her ice cream. He takes the money and pays and hands me over my change. “No problem, man see ya in school tomorrow.” I tap the counter with my knuckles “Morning workouts as usual see ya then.” I turn around to see Mr. Blakemore
I turn and look at her and I will be honest with her as she deserves to know the truth. “We have broken up yes, she invited herself over claiming she wanted to talk, and we did. We walked past you so we could go out back and talk in private. I know she said things to you in school Lucas told me as he was close by, he overheard everything and I told her if she comes near you again, I can ruin her like she has threatened to ruin me. I also told her she is not welcome around my house anymore as I heard what she said to you then too and I am sorry she spoke to you like that she had no right to say anything, and you know what my dad said to you. You are welcome around my home any time you like as my mom is looking forward to start playing music again and that’s thanks to you.” Another tear rolls down her cheek and I wipe it off her face as it’s killing me seeing her cry. “Well thank you for clarifying that, Chase. But I still don’t understand why you acted the way you did as that hurt
It’s Friday. Game day. A day I have been waiting for all week. Ever since Monday night I have kept my head down and worked my ass off with schoolwork, football, and rebuilding a friendship with Savannah. After I walked Savannah home Monday night, she got me thinking about my future too. I never went and caught up with my friends I got home and went and spoke to my dad about college, and we discussed everything in the finance major as this is what I want to do I want to keep my family’s legacy alive. I sat at my desk for the rest of the night, and I applied to the same university my parents went to and fell in love. I have applied to Berkeley University. I have gotten a recommendation letter from HR at the office with the hours I have put in there and I will be speaking to my football coach and my math teacher about letters too to go with my application. I have kept my distance from all the girls in school but stayed close enough to Jen and her little circle of friends as I noticed
Once we get far enough away from what just happened, I am standing outside the locker room. I turn Savannah around to look at me as I hold onto her shoulders. “Savannah I am so sorry you witnessed that and I’m sorry for how he spoke to you. You deserve so much more than what he said, and I promise you right now he will never come anywhere near you if it’s the last thing I do.” “Chase whatever happened back there was not your fault. He provoked you and you done what any guy would do. You defended me and I want to say thank you for that.” She holds onto my forearms to comfort me and calm me down. “I will be in the stands with your folks and Jen and if you wanna talk after the game about what happened then I’m here to listen.” For the second time in so many minutes, Savannah kisses my cheek and walks to find my family. I head on into the locker room, to my locker, and start gearing up for the game. Just as I finished lacing up my boots coach comes charging into the locker room to giv
Savannah P.O.V Sitting up in the stands With Jen and her parents on one side, my dad on the other side, and Selena behind me. Dad was invited to come by Mr. Lockwood to come and watch as Dad used to play football in high school and college so this must feel like he’s a young man again. Selena leans forward and whispers to both Jen and me. “What the hell happened earlier? It’s all I have been hearing about since I arrived.” Selena askes as she leans forward to talk to me from behind. “Yeah, I wanna know the same thing.” Jen turns and looks at me, “I heard there’s college scouts here to see some of the guys play but surely it’s not that.” Oh, shit if the scouts are here for Chase if they know about him laying out Vance, he’s never going to get a scholarship and I will feel responsible. So, I tell the girls the short version of what happened. “Vance was saying he’s going to take me away from Chase just like he did with Candace. I had to stop Chase from hitting Vance then, but Vanc
The third quarter was interesting Lucas scored a touchdown from the forty-meter yard line. That is impressive for a young man like himself and what I have been told by Selena who goes doe eyes every time his name is mentioned. I think she may have feelings for him I need to know their story. But anyway, with what Selena was telling me he’s a fellow country student. From Victoria, Texas. I thought I could hear a Texan accent from him when I heard his voice at the ice cream parlor. But anyway, back to the game. Lucas scored a touchdown that took our lead up even more, but Venice High were fighting back hard. This game feels like it’s going to be a bloodbath. I wasn’t wrong with saying it’s going to be a close game as in the middle of the third quarter Venice High hits back with two touchdowns of their own, when the ball was clearly stolen from us. I think I’m not going to have a voice after the end of the game with all this shouting and cheering I have been doing. The start of the f
