Starting as his nurse

As soon as her mother was brought out to see her, she got up to meet her half way, before leading her to a seat.

"Mother you look better than the last time". She says, hiding her tears.

"I actually feel better than the last time". Her mother replies, pulling her face to look at her.

You don't have to cry if you have not been able to raise the money, I believe something great will happen soon". Hearing her speak that way always bring tears to her eyes.

"Mother, I have decided to use my insurance, you will be admitted to Panacea, you will have the surgery done there, and even if my savings aren't enough, I have been told that I could work without pay for years, till I finish paying up".

"I cannot let you do that. What about your school in Houston? Are you giving up on that? Do you want to remain just a nurse, when you can be so much more? She couldn't hide her tears anymore, she let it drop, soaking her white blouse. Whenever she visited, she would always promise herself that she will be strong, but then, she would always break down.

"I got rejected again mother. They don't accept part payment unless I pay in full.

"Then why don't you pay in full? Your savings should be able to pay up?

"I cannot clear my savings. How will you feed. The school can wait mother, I have decided, you are coming to Panacea with me".

"Lauren, please don't be in a hurry, I know you have a pure heart and you want to see me well, but I cannot let you do what you are about to do, of you do it, I will remain unhappy for the rest of my life, and I am sure, you wouldn't want that would you? She couldn't stop crying. Truely she couldn't just clear up her account. The adult home where her mother is kept, is being paid for, she has her rent and other bills to pay, if she clears her saving, she will be homeless.

I believe that something good will happen to you, don't worry". She added. Lauren buried her head in her hands, while her mother stroke her hair. She felt so helpless, she hated such a feeling.

Whenever she visits her, she would always ask that she takes her for a walk around the adult home compound, it was a form of exercise for her. She was granted her request, and she walked with her mother. Each step was taken with difficulty. Not only was her mother battling with a heart disease, she had also started loosing her memories. Sometimes she would ask of her long dead husband, and get angry why he didn't come to visit, while at other times, she will speak to the wall, as though it is a living being.

"I am getting tired". She confessed to her, after having walked round the centre.

"Yes, it is getting late, I should take you back to your room". She replies, and gradually, they walked back to the centre, being a medical practitioner herself, she was allowed to take her mother inside, she sang to her, and soon, she was snoring out loud.

Lauren stared deeply at her, and nodded, confirming what she just conceived I'm her mind.

"I will find a way, to help you get better, i promise".

She made a little space for herself close to the bed, so she could sleep close to her.

That is how she spends her off days.

The Mendez family wanted to know who it is that their son have been pointing at all day.

"Mother I saw her last night, she was wearing a uniform, dresssed like a nurse, she was just at the other side, she pointed a torch at me, she looked into my eyes, she looked angry. I think she is angry with me, I hurt her".

Watching him act that way, brought tears to her eyes. Her only son was going insane, because of the death of his wife, and she cannot do anything about it.

"Lucious, you will have to calm down, if you want us to bring Sydney to you. You know she wouldn't like to see you in this state? she says, making her husband all the more angry.

"Why are you sounding like that, don't you know you are adding to this madness? We should tell him the truth now, so he starts to get used to it!

"You heard the doctor, we cannot tell him anything yet". She tries to calm her husband down, but he sounded furious and he stormed towards the doctor's office.

"Why is my son acting like a lunatic? He asked.

"It is expected of him to act in a different way, but I never thought he would forget the face of the woman he loves, mistaking her for another, but the truth is that, something like that is expected to happen".

"I don't like the way he is acting, I think we should tell him that she is dead, so he registers that instead of calling any random girl his wife".

"Why don't we find out who the girl is first.

finding a girl whom he believes to be his wife could help him heal faster, than telling him that his wife is dead. I know what I am saying, I have seen this things happen many times. You should be happy that he remembers you, there are cases where the victim remembers nothing, and only have to register new memories for a long time, and gradually, his old memories were restored, so please, let us take it gradually, cases with the brain needs special care". He concluded. They both step outside, only for when they got back to the room, he was showing his mother somebody through the window.

"Mother, look at Sydney, she is just ignoring me, and why does she look so sad? Doctor Carter looked outside, and as soon as his eyes met with Lauren, he saw the resemblance between the two, even his father confirmed that they could both go for sisters, he pulls the doctor by the hand and ask.

"Is she married?

"No, she isn't". He replied, thinking the same thing he is thinking.

"Then I need to have a word with her, I just need my son to act normal, and if bringing her close to him is what will make him act normal, then I am willing to do anything".

"First, your son needs a personal nurse, and his case will be transfered to their section, which means, we should first work towards making her, his personal nurse. She is trained, she could gradually help him heal". The doctor says, but that is not the area Mr Mendez is looking at, but starting as a nurse, he doesn't mind at all.
