The sound of shattering glass filled the room, a lady squatted down to pick the broken pieces of the glass. The sharp mouth of the glass pierced through her finger as blood immediately oozed out of the finger.
“Just look at what you did Annabel, you broke my favourite vase. You are just good for nothing like your useless mother”A lady who appears to be her aunt reprimanded from behind.
“Please don’t talk about my mother like that”Annabel pleaded heavenly at the verge of crying.
“Oh shut up,she is the reason for my brother’s death!”Her Aunt barks at her as Annabel gazes down.
“If only he didn’t marry that whore of a woman that gave birth to a worthless disgusting person like you he would have still been alive”Her Aunt added remarking rudely.
“My mother is not a whore”Annabel finally voices out, unable to hear any bad things about her mother.
“How dare you talk back at me Annabel!”she grabbed her by the wrist tightly, she pulled her up and landed her a tight slap.
Annabel couldn’t control the tears Streaming out from her eye holes. She looked up at her Aunt with her teary eyes and squeezed her fists tightly fuming with rage.
“Don’t you ever call my mom a whore with your filthy mouth”She warns her while pointing her middle finger at her leaving her aunt stunned.
“How dare you raise your voice at me you ungrateful little twat”Her aunt hisses, giving her the dead glare.
“I don’t care, just don’t ever talk about my mother ever again!”She screams at the top of her voice.
“Annabel!”Her Aunt screamed, slapping her hard on the cheek.
Annabel lowered her head down with her hand on cheek caressing it to ease the burning sensation she felt.
She never believed she had it in her to talk back to her Aunt, this new attitude of hers happens to be the influence of her best friend Juliet who had always encouraged her to stand up for herself.
“I need you to leave my house this minute”Her aunt orders with a commanding tone.
“Where will I go from here?”Annabel cries out,She never believed her aunt will ever ask her to leave her house.
“I don’t care, leave!”Her Aunt yells disgusted by her presence.
After losing both of her parents due to a fatal accident that claimed both their life’s. Annabel had no other choice than to move in with her Aunt because she was the only family she had left.
Living with her Aunt was hell, she treated her like trash and constantly taunts her and blamed her for the death of her brother.
The rain poured down violently at her as she was wandering aimlessly in the middle of the rain with uncontrollable tears dripping down from her eye holes.
She got drenched in the rain but didn’t care. She could feel strange glares from people but no one dared to ask her what the problem was. She stood in the middle of the road watching as people passed by.
The rain finally stopped but she was drenched and soaked, but this was the least of her problems. It was the middle of the night and she had nowhere to go, she continued to walk aimlessly on the street.
“Pretty lady!” Two men called out simultaneously. Annabel didn’t give them a response as she continued walking, they walked faster to meet up with her pace.
“Come with us so you don’t get a cold,” one of them sheepishly suggested.
Annabel finally stopped walking to take a glimpse at them, she looked up to see two grown men with a strong Alcohol scent. No one needed to tell her that these men were drunk.
“I’m fine, you don’t need to do anything for me”Annabel refused their offer with fear laced in her tone.
She walked faster to get rid of them but they followed her pace, she turned and threw her bag at them to give enough leverage to Run away from them. But Luck wasn’t on her side as she ran to a dead end.
“We are gonna take it easy with you” they both laughed out loud while walking towards her slowly.
“Somebody help me!” She yells but no one comes to her rescue. She fell to the ground and screamed again.
“Can you stop screaming, no one is going to come to your rescue” The man uttered with annoyance.
Annabel shiver watching them come closer,She wrapped her knee with her hand,Just as they were about to lay their hands on her a voice spoke from behind.
“What do you think you are doing!” A voice yells from behind, fear gripped them as soon as they heard that voice.
“We aren’t doing anything, we are just trying to help this lost girl find her way” one of them awkwardly lied.
The stranger's eyes wandered towards Annabel who was squatting down and shaking uncontrollably, then he gave the men a dead look.
“We are just leaving” they awkwardly left.
The guy was about to approach a shivering Annabel when someone held his shoulder from behind.
“There you are, Have been worried sick looking everywhere for you” Another stranger appeared on the scene, he didn’t get a response from him and his eyes wandered to where he was looking at
“Who is she?” He curiously asks, staring at Annabel.
“I have no idea, I heard someone scream and that’s why I came here” The guy firmly answered “I think we should leave now, mom will be worried sick and have you fixed the car?”The guy that chased those men asked.
“Don’t you think we should help her?” He ignored his question.
“No, we shouldn’t get involved, Albert”He revealed the second guy's name.
“But Andrew, she seems really lost”The one who appears to be Albert revealed Annabel’s hero name.
“You don’t need to worry about me, Thank you for saving me” Annabel who finally spoke out.
“Are you sure about that?” Albert worriedly asked.
“She said she is fine, let’s get the hell out of here” Andrew coldly stated.
“Yes, I am fine,” Annabel assures Albert she was alright.
They both decided to leave her. She didn’t get to see their faces neither did they also didn’t get a chance to see her face.
Annabel’s phone rang, the caller reads Juliet, Annabel hesitates before picking the call.
“Hello”she answers with a hoarse tone.
“Annabel I have been trying to reach out to you” Her friend Juliet's voice booms out from the speaker.
“I…am…fine” Annabel stammers trying to push the tears back in.
“Wait.. are you crying” Juliet curiously asks on hearing the tone of her voice.
“N…no” Annabel lied.
“Don’t lie to me Annabel I know when something is wrong with you” Juliet stated.
Annabel breathes out as she couldn’t hold the tears any longer, she cries out loud as Juliet tries to calm her down from the phone. She explains everything that transpired between her and her Aunt.
Everything will be okay, come over to my house” Juliet assures her.
Few minutes later, Annabel arrived at Juliet place. Juliet lives in the Trenches in a one bedroom that barely accommodates her. Annabel knocked on the door, the door came open revealing Juliet. Juliet immediately took her in.
Juliet told Annabel about a job offer she got and she knows that she would be perfect for the job.
They both were discussing the job while having their dinner When Juliet all of a sudden warns her to stay away from the well known famous Torres brothers who happen to be the woman's sons.
“What do you mean by I should stay away from her sons?"Annabel curiously asked with confusion evident in her tone.
"That is because you don't have any business with them. They are narcissist idiots that have no respect for women. I heard that a lot of female servants lost their jobs because of them and how they treated them,"Juliet explains to her with a disgusted look.
"I will stay away”Annabel quickly agrees on hearing their history with women.
"You mustn't have anything to do with them, just focus on your work and what you came there to do okay"Juliet warns her.
“Okay Juliet” Annabel tells her with a warm smile.
***
Why did we stop here?" Annabel curiously asked.
"I only remember the house if I take this root,"Juliet replied,She took out her phone in search of the address.
"What are you looking for?" Annabel asks.
"Hush,I am trying to get the address,”She groaned.
"Okay then" Annabel mutters quietly.
"Finally got it”She announced, earning a smile from Annabel.
"Let us take this root,"She walked towards the direction with Annabel following her from behind.
A few minutes after trekking,Annabel and Juliet finally arrived at the place,Annabel's jaw dropped when she saw the beautiful mansion in front of her.
"Oh! My! God!”She squeaks with her mouth wide open.
"This is the house”Juliet tells her with a smile on her face.
"This isn't a house, this is heaven" Annabel exaggerated feeling amazed by the look of the house.
It is a big beautiful mansion, it is something Annabel has never seen before. The yard is sloped making it appear to be sitting on a hill, the outside decor is so beautiful and it is making Annabel imagine how beautiful the inside of the house will be.
Albert’s POV“What do you mean you can’t get the driver?” I roared, fury tightening my chest. “What happened to the CCTV cameras in that area? Are you telling me they didn’t catch a damn thing?” My voice rose, thick with frustration.“That wasn’t an accident,” I snapped, gripping the edge of my desk. “I saw the bastard’s eyes before he rammed into my car—he meant to do it. So find him. And bring him to me.”They all kept their heads bowed, not daring to meet my gaze.“Yes, sir!” they echoed in unison.“Then get the fuck out of my office.”The moment the door shut behind them, I shoved a hand through my hair and leaned back in my chair, the tension in my jaw refusing to ease. That crash wasn’t random. Someone targeted us. But who the hell would want to—?The door creaked open again.Tracy stepped in, her signature smug smile already plastered on her face. What the hell does she want?“You look stressed,” she said sweetly, strolling over and dropping onto the sofa like she owned the pla
“Annabel! No, no, no—baby, stay with me!” Albert’s voice cracked, raw and hoarse, as he ran alongside the hospital stretcher, his fingers tightly clasped around her blood-slicked hand. Her skin was cold. Too cold. The metallic scent of blood clung to him—hers, his, theirs—and it smeared his shirt, soaked through the sleeves, painted his shaking hands.Annabel’s eyes fluttered weakly beneath bruised lids, her lips trembling as she fought to keep them open.“I’m… I’m trying,” she whispered, barely audible. “Albert… our baby… Is our baby okay?”The world around him spun into a blur. Nurses yelled codes. Doctors barked instructions. Machines beeped and screeched. But all Albert could hear was her voice, so soft and scared, anchoring him to the worst moment of his life.“Yes,” he choked out, desperate to believe it himself. “Our baby’s going to be fine. You both are. Just hold on for me, please.”She gave the faintest nod before her head lolled slightly to the side. The doors of the operat
Andrew’s POVWhy does Annabel look scared or something? I stepped into the room with a smile, hoping to lighten the mood, but it didn’t take long to sense the tension hanging in the air.“I think I should leave you guys for now,” Julie said with an awkward smile, eyes darting between Annabel and us. Something was definitely off. Something had happened.“You don’t have to leave, Julie. You can stay here with us,” Annabel replied, her voice just a touch too strained. That hesitation in her tone—yeah, I could tell. I knew exactly what this was about.Albert and I… we’d been at each other’s throats lately. Constant bickering, pointless tension. We agreed to stop, especially around Annabel. We couldn’t risk letting our drama affect her health.“No, Annabel. I need to attend to something, okay? I’ll see you later,” Julie said, offering a soft smile. She gave Albert and me a respectful nod before slipping out and gently closing the door behind her.Annabel sank onto the bed with a low sigh,
It had been nearly two months now, and Andrew and Albert were still fumbling through their efforts to make things work with Annabel. Each of them insisted on being the one to care for her, but instead of bringing her comfort, their constant competition only resulted in petty arguments and endless bickering. The tension between them hung in the air like a thundercloud, and it was wearing Annabel thin. Still, she forced herself to smile through it all, hoping that pretending everything was fine would prevent things from spiraling further.Mrs. Torres, however, was far from fooled—and even farther from amused. She loathed the chaos that had taken over her family. Time and time again, she urged her husband to step in and put an end to the madness, but he dismissed her every time with the same cold response: “Wait for the child to be born.”But Mrs. Torres knew in her bones that if that child came into the world, nothing would ever be the same—and not in a good way.Desperate, she had take
“Why do you look so shocked? Do you want me to remind you?” Esme’s voice curled like smoke as she took a step toward Tracy. But before she could get any closer, Tracy shoved her back, her hands trembling from the contact. Esme only chuckled, an amused glint in her eyes. “You better stay away from me,” Tracy snapped, her voice taut with irritation, though a flicker of something else—fear, maybe—lingered beneath her words. “Yes, I agree—we fucked. But that was it. I’m not a lesbian. I’ve never once questioned my sexuality.” Esme raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a mocking smile. “If it happened just once, maybe I’d believe you were curious. But it wasn’t once, Tracy. It happened so many times, I’ve lost count. So tell me—were you still questioning your sexuality all those times?” Tracy’s jaw tightened, but she said nothing. “Anyway,” Esme continued, brushing invisible lint from her sleeve, “I’m not here to stir things up. Running into you was purely a coincidence, so
“You heard me right. I’ll get an abortion if you both keep fighting like this,” Annabel said, her tone edged with frustration. Her eyes darted between them. “I don’t want to be caught in the middle of this, okay? You both promised I’d be fine, but watching the way you two act right now, I’m starting to doubt it.” Her voice rose slightly, tinged with anger.Andrew and Albert exchanged a tense look. Andrew rolled his eyes.“Fine, Annabel. We won’t cause you any more stress,” Albert said, offering a faint smile. “I promise you won’t see us like this again.”Annabel turned to Andrew, expecting him to speak. He caught her gaze, then finally nodded.“What Albert said. You won’t have to worry about anything, Annabel,” Andrew said in a calmer tone. “Just… please don’t talk about getting an abortion again.”A small smile curled on Annabel’s lips. At least they were trying—trying not to stress her, trying to work together for the sake of her and the baby.“Let’s go home, then,” she said softly.
